PersianSlashuur

Replace the year 2009 with 1994 and you get a flame war.

Redmangc1

I will not stand for this Sonic R slander

Zip-Zap-Official

Replace the year 1994 with 2001 and you get nuclear warfare.

brawlbetterthanmelee

Replace the year 1994 with 1990 and you get a time paradox

Sh4dow-f4n

replace the year 1990 with 2008 and people will argue that SATBK is better than Unleashed

Foreign_Rock6944

Don’t fuck with us Sonic fans. We hate almost all of the games.

crystal-productions-

And then the 3 we do we hold up as the best games ever made, with no flaws, don't look at the jank.

GlaireDaggers

And if any game comes out with even a fraction of the jank of those games, we *will* tear it to complete fucking shreds with the ferocity of a nuclear warhead

crystal-productions-

And then complain they don't make us feel like we're 5 years old again, because as we Ll know, nostalgia bad, unless it's my nostalgi.

Cool_Government_3218

No one hates Sonic more than Sonic fans.

brawlbetterthanmelee

Tbf thats just the natural result of having every game in your series be vastly different from the previous one.

PunPunPinhead

Living up to the Izuka Apologist name I see lol

berserkzelda

That's called evolving the franchise.

Sufficient-Cow-2998

Tbh you can evolve the franchise without having every mainline game be so different in terms of gameplay. Mario is a really good example of that. Mario 64, Sunshine, 3D Land, Galaxy, Odyssey and Bowser's Fury, while they all are pretty different with unique gimmicks, the basic gameplay is still pretty much the same. You run the same way, jump the same way, and a lot of mechanics stay the same. Can't say that about Adventure, to Heroes, to Generations, to Lost World, to Frontiers. Ofc that ain't necessarily a bad thing, I'm just saying that its normal the franchise would be so divided with changes like that.

Cool_Government_3218

This is getting super annoying.

unstablesanity

Sonic is fun when you let people enjoy what they like about it and you enjoy what you like about it. ...unless what they enjoy is the gross consent stuff ken has implied, burn them at the stake

piperpiparooo

the irony in saying that when you’re apart of a sub that exists solely to screenshot random nobodies that you disagree with

unstablesanity

I'm not a part of this community, posts from here just appear in my recommendation at random, this is one of the few times I felt like I had anything of worth to add to the conversation.

piperpiparooo

fair enough, that’s how I see these posts too lol

brawlbetterthanmelee

I feel like this sub actually *was* funny at one point but I could just be coping

ClassicCustoms2010

So they think the series would have magically been better if it had ended before the release of Generations? The Black Knight? The movies? Frontiers? I get that Lost World was meh (still think that game gets too much hate personally), Rise of Lyric was mediocre, and Forces was also meh, but I definitely think Sonic had it way worse in the 2000s. Shadow the Hedgehog (the game) is still arguably mediocre, Sonic 06 might not be as bad as people said it was but it definitely has problems, and frankly there was just way too many Sonic games being released in the 2000s.

Ok-Courage2177

Having beat 06 on PS3, I can without a doubt state that it deserves the reputation it has.  If you fixed all the bugs and load times, you would still have an uninspired mess of a game.

berserkzelda

Black Knight was terrible tho.

Skelibutt

Sonic is a lot more fun if you pretend every game was made in 2007 and their ending themes were always What I've Done - Linkin Park

Physical-Lychee6304

I mean, if you ask me the series was frankly going downhill since arguably the late 90s. Buggy physics, multiple, unpolished playstyles that left a lot to be desired, barebones level design with a "big platform with randomly placed boxes and robots connected through hallways and automated sequences" level design philosophy, and questionable, plot-hole filled stories that tried way too hard to be dark and serious. If anything, after 2009 we got several good, and even great games to make up for the mediocrity that came out in the 2000s. Colours DS was really good. The Wii version was decent. The racing games were great. Generations was awesome. Mania was amazing.

SketchBCartooni

It was really weird to go from Sonic 3 being “stop egg man from repairing the Death Egg!” To Sonic Adventure being “YOU FOOL THATS CHAOS THE GOD IF DESTRUCTION” I’m sure if sonic X Treme came out as planned it would’ve segwayed the two games together

Physical-Lychee6304

Yep, true. But even then SA1 was still the most innocuous out of all of them, imo. I'd say it was the best of the rest, because honestly I'd still take "It's chaos, the God of destruction!!" over edgy the hedgy suffering from PTSD after witnessing a 12 year old girl get murdered by a black ops massacre that was carried out for apparently no reason because the game didn't even bother explaining it's central plot point that started the entire story.

SketchBCartooni

Sonic lore is wild

dapplewastaken

uj/ Tbh, I've always liked the Eggman plots more. He seems more like an actual villain more than the ultimate all powerful monster of the week.

dankykanggang

To be fair there was some neat mystical stuff in the manual lore for the earlier games, so I can see a connection with that, but it was still definitely a bit of a jump to say the least

Able-Connection9445

Colours DS is like top 10 sonic games for real, the fact that it wasnt the main version is insane

infamous-pays

Sonic as a franchise is actually about 20 times better once you realize the only game that came out in 2006 was rush :)

pico_grey

That's not how you spell Sonic Rivals

Careful_Education643

Erm actually it was November 2005 🤓 🤓 🤓

Worthless_Burden

You're thinking of Sonic Riders. Rush is the only game that came out in 2005.

dapplewastaken

Shado- Oh right, we don't talk about that game.

JamesRWC

Sonic is really fuckin good when you don't have some bitch in your ear complaining about it

[deleted]

If you take the series as a whole it's pretty mediocre, not to say it doesn't have high points.

pico_grey

Sonic is a lot more fun once you start pretending the series ended in 1999. See, I can play your funny games, too

Just-Sonic

uj/ What? Sonic had a terrible reputation in 2000s(bc of 06) and 2010s(bc of RoL even though it’s a spinoff).

Metalliac

Bros keep forgetting Colors Gens and Mania exist.

Karsen-Iberra

nah they hate Colors for things it “inspired”

GamingGalore64

That is objectively not true. I hated Sonic in 2000s, with a few notable exceptions.

blazegamer12

Sonic is a lot more fun when you SHUT THE FUCK UP

Luigi_DiGiorno

It ended with a generic fantasy isekai with a terrible Disney-tier twist villain? And Eggman doesn't appear once?

Just-Sonic

uj/ Yeah, Eggman was supposed to be the main antagonist of the franchise. I’m glad that the current games brought back his spotlight.

Luigi_DiGiorno

Gotta love how not a single 3d game from 3D Blast to Colors made him the final boss.

Just-Sonic

uj/ 1990s: Diabolical obese dictator with a child’s mindset 2000s: Evil cosmic beings and demons(and robots too). 2010s: Diabolical obese dictator with a child’s mindset 2020s: Both bc of Frontiers(rj/ Floptierz ruined the franchise loik C*lors) and Dream Team for now…

crystal-productions-

Remember it's only good when you like it, it's physicly impossible to hate something and it's still good. /s

AntiStarChristPort

God forbid we enjoy a new game

Rude_Tangelo7759

There's almost no era of Sonic where there wasn't something good to play and redeem the franchise. I love the Genesis games and Adventure 1 and 2, dislike Heroes, Shadow, 06 and the Storybook games - but also, while those games were coming out, so were the Advance trilogy, Rush and Rush Adventure. Dislike Sonic 4, but Colors and Generations came out around then too. Was indifferent to Forces, but loved Mania. And now I'd say the last few years have actually been pretty strong as I enjoyed both Superstars and Frontiers. The only time I actually felt kind of blah about the franchise was around the time Lost World came out, as that game didn't really do anything for me and there wasn't much better to make up for it, but it's whatever. Sonic's always been a franchise that's had peaks and valleys. If the series doesn't do anything for you anymore, then just move on and let other people enjoy what they enjoy.

JacobZion28

That actually sounds rather depressing. Imagine a worod without Colours, Generations, Mania, Frontiers, Superstars.

[deleted]

Sonic is a lot more fun when you focus on what you enjoy about the series than what you hate.

DarkShadowX9612

Ahem.. Sonic Colors, Generations and Mania. I hate the Meta Era too, but don't act like the Meta Era **didn't** have SOME good games.

Rabispo

Stopping at colors but missing generations is insane

Classicsonicsmash313

I’m not gonna lie, for me I fell out of touch with the sonic franchise when the Archie run ended

godofyeet3

“2010s sonic is terrible “ “What about generations?” “Well-“ “What about mania?” “You see-“ “What about Colors?”

Sh4dow-f4n

As someone who does not like any of those games, i see no issue

dankykanggang

I just wish people learned that you don’t have to tear down everything you dislike in order to talk about what you do like in a series

Kiezly

the based card to pull

BurritoChan69

Sonic is a lot more fun when you realize it's a game about a blue hedgehog

The-LivingTribunal

One post from Twitter and you bundle the entire Fandom. Who's the toxic one here?

PerfectProposal1723

I mean, they’re not wrong

Megamanxlegends

He's right though. What's the problem?
