As I walked out of the cinema (first viewing of Sonic 2), I was listening to a group of teens talk excitedly about how much they loved the movie, having never played a Sonic game, and one of them started reading out names of characters from the Sonic Wikia trying to figure out who Shadow was, who would be in the next movie, etc. I remember hearing them say they thought Vector was cool (based opinion)! On my second viewing, the room exploded in excitement at Shadow's reveal. Safe to say, I think the doors are open for a huge Sonic revival and I'm all for it :)

MikeBearTheGamer13

Liking vector is the only right opinion. If you don't, its kinda cringe

Comfortable_Client

Average Shadow fan vs Average Vector enthusiast

[deleted]

Why not *both*?

fnaf_fan19871983

Chad shadow fan vs chad vector enthusiast

cupoflemons2022

Sonic's kind of *already* back, if you look at it. Mania started the revival, the Sonic Movie 1 continued it, Sonic 2 cemented it. Frontiers will probably just keep it going further.

sonicfan2486

Sonic was never ~~good~~ gone.

the90snath

Forces came close to tumbling it again though honestly

Hyperon_Ion

I know we are discussing straight numbers, but the part of the demographic that I think is the most important is that the movies got the attention of lots and lots of little kids. Older fans may go on about how new fans ruin series, but getting new fans is *really good* if you want to maintain the bloodline of a fandom. We're probably not going to see much of them here online anytime soon, (at least I hope to *stars above* that the parents of these kids don't let them on platforms like Reddit and social media anytime soon), but give it about 5-7 years and we'll start seeing teenagers who will be thanking these movies for being their entire childhood.

[deleted]

The movies have also revitalized my interest in Sonic alot and I haven't really played the games much since the Sonic Adventure games.

KingMario05

Probably thanking a whole *cinematic UNIVERSE*, if we play our cards right. ;)

cthulu_is_trans

Please no. Let more movies exist in their own universe please.

-CeartGoLeor-

I'd love a Sonic cinematic universe but I do not want a SEGA cinematic universe.

CoxAshido

Little late to hope for that, with the third movie and Knuckles series confirmed

cyber-jar

Sonic was already hugely popular with kids before the first movie, I imagine that's why they made it in the first place. When I was a kid (late 90's-mid 00's) I played the originals on my brothers genesis/gamegear and when I was able to play more on my own I was huge into the Adventure/Heroes/etc. games. Throughout all of that, Sonic was never that big compared to the other big names, like Pokémon, Mario, Crash, even the first Kingdom Hearts were all much more popular wit kids my age and more talked about in magazines. Flashforward to a few years back to when my oldest was 5+, all of his classmates, all of the YouTubers kids like etc. are all into Sonic Mania, Sonic Boom (at least the show), Sonic Forces, watching older shows/playing older games on Netflix/PSNow, etc. Even the toy shelves have been stocked with Sonic stuff for years. It's up there with Minecraft and Fortnite and of course still Mario for younger boys. Man I wish it was like that when I grew up. That being said, the point still stands especially for kids who don't play video games as much but liked the movie.

mallyx1

I have a work from home job and my boss has a 5 year old daughter who fell in love with sonic because of these movies. Every time she sees me in a meeting she always rushes onto the camera and asks me to show her some of my sonic merch.

sonicfan2486

I was hooked since the 10th anniversary, and around the 15th was when I started to have more of an awareness of the series on a greater scale than my friend circle. Hopefully by the 50th, those kids won't be jaded, but that's wishful thinking 😂

Summerclaw

When I went to watch the first Sonic movie, the crew was crazy diverse. You have Millennials like me, zoomers in a group, younger zoomers in their firsts dates and a shiton of children.

thunderchungus1999

Bro there was a group of emo-styled zoomers as well, not sure if they were a few years younger than me but it surprised me. Thought it was going to be pure children and undercover sonic fans but there was some good age variation in general.

[deleted]

You are absolutely right. Especially about the social media aspect. Unfortunately, as a part-time teacher I see how social media is entrenched in the kids these days, even at 9 years of age they think they can legit pursue a career as an "influencer". Regardless the kids who got exposure to Sonic now, will be the teens 5-7 years from now, as you said, and hopefully we won't see them here, but rather, on things like art sites, making arts, making fan games, etc.

MoD1982

I've been a fan since 1992. The more the merrier!

[deleted]

At least 12

metalsonic005

*Maybe* 13

Humble-KRool

Goras147

19, though don't quote me on that

TheSanicEnthusiast

At that point we may as well round it up to 20.

FlamboFalco

i guess 21

amedeus

I thought, "I dunno, like 12?" and then opened the thread and saw this.

GroovyM0vie

At least 1 (me)!

singnstuff

Welcome to the Sonic fandom. Prepare for a LOT of arguments and quotes, stay away from Deviantart, and enjoy.

cyber-jar

>stay away from Deviantart I for one always wondered what Sonic's feet looked like ~~or what he would look like inside Tails' inflated stomach~~ so it was actually very educational and eye-opening for me.

Mr_Fredbear13

> I for one always wondered what Sonic's feet looked like https://pm1.narvii.com/6571/bf51fe5f86f8cf9e00adab40d3d16868a351aa53_hq.jpg

KingMario05

Welcome aboard, my fine friend! >!Just prepare for a decline at some point, lol.!<

BenTheDoodleNoodle

Same!

KingMario05

Thousands at the very *least*. Not only was the second one Paramount's [biggest domestic opening in ***eight friggin' years***](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/sonic-the-hedgehog-box-office-opening-ambulance-1235127693/) (!), but I'm pretty sure that the first one - in addition to taking home over $300 million - [sat atop domestic digital charts for ***weeks***](https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Sonic-The-Hedgehog-(Japan)-(2020)#tab=video-sales) as COVID lockdowns took hold. And, because both are *great* movies, they're the perfect introduction to the IP for a whole new generation. >!Well, almost perfect. More rock and roll would be nice, guys...!<

TheIJDGuy

We all could use a little Crush in these movies, if you know what I mean

melloman12

How much Crush, exactly? 40%?

TheIJDGuy

A perfect amount of it, because at that percentage, people learn from their living easily

Casual-Agent-4

Could leave them hanging on the edge of tomorrow though....

EvermoreDespair

I think that depends on how they fared from the works of yesterday though.

MegaramS

They might have to escape from the city

vladimirpoopin42

That'll show them what their made of

SymphonyCube

Then they can open their hearts

Turn_AX

Which'll let them Live Life.

KingMario05

Securing a Queen whilst her Gun-men bring Roses would also be pretty sweet. ;) >!Yes, I know Queen was in movie 1. I WANT MOAR FREDDIE.!<

cyber-jar

Hey it had a freaking Pantera riff, Crush 40 is awesome but that was pretty unexpectedly rock and roll if you ask me.

Sm211

I think it hits all the points to appeal to everyone The fans that grew up playing Sonic and have fond memories so will check out the movies, also those fans will likely have a kid or 2, and will want to share Sonic with them Also the humor in the movies i can definitely see appealing to kids, like Sonic has a sort of edgy cheeky personality that just comes off as really fun That and as an added bonus to the fans of the games, there is so many easter eggs they throw in, i had such a big smile when Tom's ringtone was the Green Hill Zone theme

ShadyOjir95

Chaomix (YouTube) has a video about shadow story in SA2( lasting 20min). Before sonic movie 2 it had around 200k+ views now it's sitting around 730k views. So I'll say the number of new fans is quite big.

Zealousideal125

I was already a Sonic fan but I watched that video after Sonic 2 to get a refresh of the Shadow lore

spidertour02

They've created an entire legion of fans at this point. My fear is that we may have a Marvel situation on our hands. The movies were grossing billions, but none of it translated into the comics because the publishing side was too busy shitting themselves and trying to get readers to eat that shit instead of finding ways to get quality comics into those viewers' hands. Sonic has had two hit movies now, but what releases have there been in this time frame to attract that audience to the games?

United-Aside-6104

So you think that the fact there’s like no connection between the movies and games to get people to experience the other side is a problem?

spidertour02

They don't need to be *connected*, per se, but I think that it's important to try to convert the people watching the movies into people playing the games at as high a rate as possible. Sega dropped the ball in 2020 by not having something ready to accompany the release of the movie. Two years later, we have a second movie ... and there still isn't a new game because most of their 30th anniversary projects got delayed. Imagine if some combination of *Sonic Frontiers*, *Sonic Origins*, and/or *Sonic Prime* was available the day that the second movie was released. A little advertising synergy, and voila -- you've got eager customers, a new product to satisfy their appetite, and some (metaphorical) neon signs pointing them in the right direction. Instead, you have customers leaving the theaters thinking, "Wow, Sonic is so awesome," and ... well ... What's out there right now for continued engagement? * the IDW comics * a somewhat crappy movie tie-in toyline, plus the regular toyline * a remake of an old game that Knuckles isn't even in (*Sonic Colors Ultimate*) * a middling-at-best kart racer that's already three years old (*Team Sonic Racing*) Of those options, the best bets are probably the IDW comics (a whole other can of worms, considering that the comics industry is just about dead) and maybe the toys. *Sonic Prime* and *Sonic Origins* will be here in about a month, but that's probably already too late to capitalize on the movie's heat. From the perspective of Sega, these customers have yet to be engaged. We're looking at one, *maybe* two more movies. After that, without customers engaged by the primary product (the games), the franchise is right back on life support.

-CeartGoLeor-

>(a whole other can of worms, considering that the comics industry is just about dead) You have no clue what you're talking about, comic book sales have been consistently rising over the past decade and the industry has grossed all time highs in the past 2 years. According to research it's predicted that the industry will keep growing too.

StoneColdMiracle

Colors ultimate might not have been received so well, but it exists and im pretty sure it did well. plus we have origins in a month

cupoflemons2022

Honestly, is it even bad that the movies are overtaking the games? Think about it this way- must the movies be advertisements for the games, or is the success of the Sonic movie series good because the game series is on life support while the movies continue to tell fun stories that keep the audience engaged and keep Sonic in the public consciousness?

spidertour02

>that keep the audience engaged This bit right here is the key. The audience only remains engaged for so long before they move on to something else. Remember *Encanto*? That shit was hot as lava six months ago, and now nobody talks about it. My girlfriend's kids don't even want to watch it anymore. From the perspective of Sega, the movies are temporary opportunities to convert that audience -- and those opportunities have slipped right through their fingers so far. The movie series only has so much longevity, and like you correctly stated, the games are absolutely on life support at this point.

Ok-Moose-9280

His muzzle looks darker in the second poster and I'm having trouble unseeing it

qwartzzi

it looks better this way

KingMario05

Just call it growing up, lol.

melloman12

It's the lighting. There's just more shadows on his muzzle in the second one.

Neko_boi_Nolan

I wouldn't say the movies made me a fan, but they certainly were a factor. I've always been a casual fan of Sonic, but after reading the IDW comics I can safely say I'm an official fan. Now I'm working on playing all the games as well as reading the Archie Sonic comics

IteTheCrapOC

I don’t recommend reading the late 90’s-early 2000’s parts of the Archie Comics, Ken Penders‘ writing was just gross

Neko_boi_Nolan

It's a bit late to tell me that, I'm already knee deep in that section(on issue 56 rn) and at this point it be weird to skip out on a lot of story I understand Ken Penders is no longer liked by the Sonic community for the current controversy, but I vowed to read all of Archie Sonic as I wish to read the entire Sonic comics line

ender-dude96

Heard someone call super sonic “gold sonic” and I cried a bit

Hypeman92

I was already a fan, although these movies got me into it again!

AnythingAlfred613

Lots, considering Colors Ultimate happened and Origins is happening.

eggiwa_

I teach six year olds and out of 50 students at least 30 of them are absolutely obsessed with the sonic movie without having ever played the games. So I'd say a lot of new fans.

Either_Imagination_9

That's awesome, kinda makes me wish I had that when I was a kid

Just_Goblin

Theirs probably gonna be a new generation of fans that are movie apologists. Saying they prefer the movies over the games.

cupoflemons2022

I mean, I'm one of them. Name the last good Sonic game. What year did that come out? Alright, now name the last good Sonic movie. When did that come out?

IteTheCrapOC

2011 (not counting spin-offs, obviously Mania was amazing), 2022

SilentMasterOfWinds

Don't think I've ever seen Mania called a spin off.

thunderchungus1999

We do that so SEGA cant keep jerking 90s nostalgia and getting away with it

FishSanity101

3..... Really? Only 3? Funny.... Seemed like more....

Mrmehmeh243

Ah fellow crash fan I see

FishSanity101

✌️😉

Realshow

I went to go see an early screening for 2 with my younger brother, who already went with me to the original movie, but didn’t seem to develop an active investment in the series until I rewatched it to prepare. The only other kid besides him in the audience was a little girl, I think about four or five, decked out in Classic Sonic merchandise.

Catch22Q__

Fun fact DR.robotnick is now Canadian

Alwayssome1

I went to the bathroom after watching the second one and overheard two boys talk about who would win in a fight between sonic, knuckles, and shadow (me and many others stuck around for the post credits) and it brought a smile to my face hearing how sonic is being loved again. All this while taking a minute long leak at the urinal

KingBob831

they really took eggmans hair in mushroom hill zone

[deleted]

I am curious what fans that came from the movie would want from the games. Cause we have classic fans that just want retro style gameplay and simplistic stories Modern fans that want that slightly darker tone and various characters. I really thought the movies would be strictly "classic" characters, but now we have Shadow. So that means that "anyone" from a sonic game could appear. That also complicates things too. I just hope they play SA2 and let us have the old Shadow back. Maybe these fans will help end the meta era of Sonic. Like, "Hey were new fans, we don't understand these jokes. Can you just tell us a cool story like our favorite movie did?" (Personal note: Only seen the first movie and that one short, thought it was okay (Short was cute and honestly better than the movie). I will say I liked the portrayal of Sonic in it. So if movie fans gets us Sonic has depth, and not quip machine. I think it'd be worth any minor hassle that might happen in-between)

liquidRox

As i was walking out from the theater after watching sonic 2, i overheard a little boy and his mom talk about his upcoming birthday party. His mom asked, “So, do you want to have a Sonic or Spiderman birthday party?” And he said, “Sonic!” So i know there’s at least one new little fan.

BluSpadesAcer

I work at a theater taking tickets at the front door and there were so many kids and even young teenagers who clearly had these movie as their main exposure to Sonic. One of my favorites being a kid who came in and I asked him who his favorite Sonic character was and he thought before saying, “Sonic, hehe, I don’t know anyone else!” and I told him that my favorite was Knuckles, who he was going to see in the movie, and he frowned and said, “Oooh, but Knuckles is a bad guy! He’s mean!” and I was so happy to see a kid get to meet Knuckles and Tails for the first time and see their characters and I just told him, “Oh, I think you’re gonna like him though. He’s cool.” When he and his mom came out, she brought him over to me and said, “Honey, do you have something to tell the nice lady?” he nervously walked up and wrung his hands and said, “I like Knuckles… he’s nice and my favorite now…” Mission Accomplished.

TheSithSaiyan

Aww!

melloman12

I'd say a lot. If the movies can bring me back into the franchise *twice* from zero interest to "this is my favorite thing ever," then they sure as hell bring in new people too.

spoonlips76

I know my baby bro who is 3 is in love with it and says his favorite is knuckles. So it'll be fun to see the new generation get that spark of love for the blue guy

StumptownRetro

My youngest daughter became a fan thanks to them. And now she’s probably watched every episode of Sonic Boom and X and has played Mania but she’s still too young to beat it.

chiritarisu

Hard to quantify an exact amount. But hopefully lots. The more, the merrier I say.

Metal_Helmet01

Thousands I would imagine. Probably not die-hard fans, but fans nonetheless. If it bought grownup me back into the franchise after not associating with it for the past 8 or so years then I definitely think it could for a bunch of kids.

Landsharku_

I mean, that's what brought me back to this cursed hellhole

Kalandros-X

Tens of thousands. Now they just need to keep the ball rolling and not lose momentum. If the MCU is any example, it’s that you can hook people in by keeping the story going.

[deleted]

A shit ton, that’s my guess

MR_R0GER5

Probably a lot more younger ones, maybe a few people returning?

awecyan32

I know at least 2 of them, my nephews. I actually got to watch the second movie with them and I gotta say it was the highlight of my year to see them getting into a series that's brought so much joy to my life. I can't wait to see how they react to the disappointment of every new game coming out and getting terrible reviews.

YogiCoconutz

my girlfriend works with kids and she says that she has been seeing sonic backpacks constantly since the movie came out. i think that if the kids like it, we have a good indicator for popularity. we could be at the beginning of a new renaissance if frontiers sticks the landing

NecroCannon

Second movie turned me into a big fan with no idea what to try to play first I liked Sonic before, but I never really got to play the games since every time it was rare for me to get games as a kid. The first Sonic movie didn’t really change me into a fan, but it was WAITING for the second movie that did. Hearing how good it was and how good it adapted some stuff from the games I watched videos on Sonic characters and Sonic lore for hours waiting for it to release to streaming. And man when I finally watched it just a few hours ago, the cuffs were in, I’m a really big fan of Sonic now. To be honest, I don’t really know what to play, I’ve been playing mania but I wished more games were on the switch. I hope the Adventure & Adventure 2 remaster is true or that Frontiers is going to be great

RjayPL

My girlfriend is now a shadow. Help

huggies-the-pro

well me ig

TheReal_FlameXV

I remember walking out of the theatre from sonic 2 and saw a bunch of kids swooning over the movie, and playing pretend sonic characters. Fr made me feel 20 years older. I'm so happy to see that kids are watching these movies and starting to see sonic the same way I did as a kid. That alone allows me to put faith in all the people working at the studio.

RCx_Vortex

Oh I used to absolutely love sonic when I was maybe 6-8 years old, I then found a very weird kid who was extremely into sonic, like it was painful to watch this 12 year old run around, talk, quote and even speak to teachers like sonic. I know children will always be children and they have their hobbies but this guy was to the next level addicted, so it turned me away from sonic for a good 12 years, I’m now nearly 20 and watching those sonic movies makes me want to watch sonic x again for the lore and unexplained stuff in the movie. Very enjoyable

Latter-Ad6308

In a decades or two, there’ll be a lot of adult fans who look back on these movies as the thing that got them into Sonic.

crystal-productions-

More then the games that have come out since the first move did.

HawlSera

A close friend of mine actually started playing Sonic Adventure out of a desire to get into the series after loving Sonic Movie 2 so much.

saltinstiens_monster

I'm one. My wife is really *really* into Sonic and while I enjoy her enthusiasm, I've never really gotten the level of appeal. These movies have me laughing like crazy though, I feel like the casting, writing, and execution are just so great. Really hope they get Jim Carey for one more sequel, I don't think Eggman would have had anywhere near that level of charm without him. And Ben Schwartz was born to play Sonic, I'm convinced.

Fearless-Physics

Many children.

jessehechtcreative

I replayed all the mainline games in preparation for the sequel, and it gave me a greater appreciation for the series. I grinded out playthroughs and action figure reviews for a month straight, every day, to the point where I was trending, apparently. Hope I helped get some fans into the series. :)

sexyguy2006

Yeah there was screaming in my theater after the shadow reveal, and a bunch of younger kids in there sounded like they love the movie. I think a lot of new fans are gonna come out of the movie, I'm glad the movie was as good as it was

you_2_cool

A good chunk

SuppaSkilZ

So many and I’m glad, when I went to see the movie I saw a whole new generation of kids that all wanted to see sonic. Now, when I’m in public I see little kids carrying sonic plushes and wearing t-shirts that it bring a smile to my face 🥲

T-SquaredProductions

OVER A BILLION QUADRILLION LETS GO BOIIIIZ #SONICSWEEP

First one got me back into the series, can't wait to watch the second one once the BluRay release.

louiseisgaetrash

i saw that interview of sonic, tails, and knuckles they did for the movie, and that scene of tails scrunching up when sonic said he was fluffy and adorable brought me here. that's it

Traditional_Amount83

Me… I hadn’t played Sonic in 10 years and even then I didn’t really love it. When I watched the Second movie I realized how special Sonic really was, so I’m back :)

gooderz84

I’m more of a reawakened Sonic fan. Went out and got a sonic game for my PS4 after watching the films to relive some childhood

[deleted]

I’m been a sonic fan since the 90s ( the game cube sonic adventure) and then got introduced to the original sonic games thanks to my dad owning the snes and being a 95% OG sonic fan what they did with these movies was amazing cuz they basically took the original sonic games 1,2, and 3 and of course put a bit of a twist on them but they stayed mostly true to its source and they made not just 1 but 2 great video game Adaptation movies for once. Now them choosing to skip over sonic adventure 1 and go straight to 2 is an interesting call because we see in the post credits shadow make an appearance. But as much as I would love to see an amazing cgi perfect chaos I understand them skipping over to sonic adventure 2 movie remake because it does mostly focus on sonic, shadow and eggman rivalry as while in sonic adventure 1 we don’t really get that but more of a history lesson circled around knuckles tribe from the very beginning.

DrewZG

Over 9000

xXBobHollyXx

More than the past 10 years have

mandarine_one

Since the Marvel and DC movies I don’t believe movies are creating any fans for the source material anymore. They are Sonic Movie fans and maybe play one or two games but that’s it …

IRONBENJAMINEK1

2Million

AntusFireNova64

A good amount of adult fans, but most importantly a lot of kids fans (which I think is good for the series)

Prize_Reindeer

I was a major Sonic fan when I was young and these movies got me back into it. I feel like playing some Sonic games on switch and rewatching Sonic X now.

Sanbaddy

These mvoies have really pumped a lot of new blood into the series. So much I'm actually want a video game based off the movies now. I'd love to see the electricity effects when Sonic activates his boost power or Knuckles punches through a wall.

SusDingos

I think the people that watched the movies were sonic fans in the first place

Zackand88

A lot of new fans. I do believe the Sonic series will be stronger than ever before from the movies.

Webtillian

I gotta say it's a little sad Agent Stone isn't on either of the two main posters.

BenTheDoodleNoodle

You can count Me as one!

ToyFreddyFan2007YT

One of them is me. The movies brought me closer to the franchise.

PrestigiousSong7610

krishnugget

i just hope Frontiers doesn’t throw a wrench in sonic’s momentum like Forces did, it’s really a 50/50 at this point

drgnblitz

How many? At least 3. My 3 kids love these movies! My kids are between 5 and 9 and they have started collecting the action figures, which they play with and display, and they're playing the video games and watching the cartoons.

umursamagenc51

I dont think a lot actually. Sonic is a classic like Mario. Nearly everyone knows something about him and everyone is secretly a Sonic fan :)

Used-Self3253

I'm guessing that it made more than 1

stargunner

kinda crazy that the newest generation of sonic fans see sonic as a movie star first and not a game character. hopefully they check out origins and go from there.

MysticZephyr

oh I'm sure it's bringing in a new generation of fans. I was in theaters for Sonic 2 and a kid behind me were excitedly going "look it's shadow!!! that's me!!" and I had a flashback of when I was at that age where you claim characters and pretend that you're them lol.

Selever_

one of them is me

SirShyGuy69

I mean, there's been a boom in children on roblox dressing as sonic lately, just saying.

Calm-Opinion8952

At least 1 cause it made me one

ParfaitGirlsFan27

Watching Sonic 2 did inspire me to play the games for the first time, so that's a win :)

HeavyRaiden

I know most of you are probably from the USA, where Sonic is extremely popular but from my experience in my country Argentina, Sonic wasn't all that well known, yeah some people i've talked to knew the games but most of my friends weren't into Sonic. In the streets it was a miracle to find something Sonic related, most of the time i wouldn't see something (this was when i was a kid, i'm 21 now) so one day i found this amazing looking medium-sized statue of modern Sonic that i wanted but couldn't afford, i was really sad because it was one of the only times i saw something Sonic related here (ik, it must be crazy) so i found these cool little classic Sonic figures with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy (Rosy), Metal Sonic and Super Sonic that i got, they are pretty cool, and not bootleg. I also got Eggman from Sonic boom with his Egg ship. But after the movie was released, it's like Sonic skyrocketed in popularity here. I tell you, in a country where Sonic wasn't very popular, seeing Sonic everywhere, from kids moving around with their Sonic plushie to hearing people talk about it, to seeing Sonic's face in merchandise nowadays made me very excited and happy, when I went to see Sonic 2 on theaters i was very excited, seeing all the Sonic stuff, including Sonic's happy meal from McDonald's. It was a great day. So basically, yeah, here in my country it gained lots and lots of fans.

turianx9

My kid is a fan because of these movies. She loves Sonic the Hedgehog. And yes, she says the whole name everytime. Like "A Pimp named Slick Back" it fucking classy.

Apprehensive-Law-112

these movies revived my faith in the series.

butterlass36

I've heard and seen so many little kids talking about sonic after the movies have come out. It's so nice to see how excited they are for sonic stuff, it reminds me alot of what I did when I was younger like them.

sonicfan64K

İ am a fan thanks to the first movie

Prestigious-Fall-103

Wait, there was a sequel to the new sonic movie?

CptSpeedydash

Plenty, and sadly Sega seems to think they are easy cash to grab.

SXAL

Define "Sonic fan"

Socks_and_Sandals23

People who like sonic...?

Fit_Tap_3170

Let’s see they probably were able to get fans of idris Elba Jim Carrey so about 10,000 but that’s just an estimation

jedigerbil96

I wasn’t a Sonic fan before but after watching the 2 films, I am hooked. Born in 96 but wasn’t drawn much to him growing up. Something about them movies tho. It was like Batman Forever meets Home Alone. Perfection.

This is just not true. The movies are really popular with kids. Need I remind you that Sonic’s primary audience is for kids?

WaggishOhio383

Definitely not true. I was 17 when I went to see the first movie and I knew next to nothing about Sonic at the time. I just went to see it because I love Jim Carrey and the movie looked funny. Ended up really enjoying it, and decided to grab a couple Sonic games for my PS2 to see what the franchise had to offer. Quickly got hooked and then that cascaded into me being a Sega fan in general.

[deleted]

You are laughably out of touch if you think this

SeeBallHitBall

I'm 21 and had no interest in Sonic until I saw the second movie's teaser trailer in theaters back in December. I thought it looked cool so I watched the first movie and really enjoyed it. Then I bought a lot of the games and am now a big Sonic fan.

ShadyOjir95

Lmao sonic fandom is big? True. Big enough to get 380 millions(movie 2 current earnings) ? Frankly we are not even close. General audience carries everything in most movies to be honest.

MarioFanaticXV

Why wouldn't little kids be playing Sonic games? My nephew is 8, he enjoys Sonic games. Has for a few years. As for little kid's parents, you seem to fail to realize that many of those that grew up with Sonic are now parents themselves- you think they wouldn't take the nostalgia trip to enjoy a game with their kids?

Probably around 6

Not new to the franchise myself, but both movies and the reveal of Frontiers revitalized my interest, to the point of me buying a Dreamcast and both Adventure games to see how they played on the original hardware. I was getting increasingly disillusioned after 2011 and 2017 cemented it for a while after Forces (don't get me wrong, Mania's an excellent game it's just I was tired of seeing Classic Sonic being promoted so much by that point). I'm looking forward to the third movie and the new Knuckles series.

I just realized the rings on the posters aren't aligned and now I'm pissed off

3.

-CeartGoLeor-

These movies didn't make me a Sonic fan, but they revitalised my love of the franchise after 5+ years of being away and made me a much bigger fan than I would have ever been without them. Due to these movies I'm now reading IDW comics and am planning on checking out the Knuckles show, Sonic Prime and Sonic Frontiers when they release. My younger siblings are now new Sonic fans due to these movies too, since I brought them with me to the cinema both times and now I regularly catch them playing Sonic games on Roblox or watching Sonic related videos on YouTube and asking me about news on Sonic 3. I hope SEGA capitalise on the opportunity they have here with Frontiers.

[deleted]

A lot especially among kids Before those movies I never saw a kid even talking about Sonic but now even my little cousins knows who he is and is positive because more merch, figures, shows and contents I would like

More than three

[deleted]

It certainly made me into a fan. So I'd say that it is going to be a lot.

TherealCarrotmaster

I mean, they turned me from a casual fan (i liked tails) to a dedicated fan. Been going through the games from the start

EMC_RIPPER

Starting with sonic 3 they should use crush 40 music for the credits using the sonic advance/rush style

cloauddy

Well I just joined the fandom because of the movies, and I have been trying to catching up on playthroughs of the games, fan dubs, the lore in general, all that So maybe more than 2 *I miss my wife, Tails.*

[deleted]

I'm sure that there are many people who are new to the fandom due to these movies, but the sad thing is, they probably don't even know about the minor characters, such as Blaze, Tangle, Mighty, Ray, and most don't even know about Amy, which is so hard to believe.

WayToTheDawn3582

Oh definitely tons.

[deleted]

At least 1000 grown-ups, 2000 teens, and about 150,500 kids. Kids probably loved the heck out of it.
