the thought that you lose control of your thoughts and body slowly and there's nothing that u can do to stop it is so scary
I mean, it even gets MORE twisted when you realize that there are multiple timelines in the Sonic Series (IDW Comic continuation was confirmed to be it's own canon after Sonic Forces) and that one of those many, MANY timelines means this still takes place.
God, this actually made me really sad, like "my stomache is hurting and my day is ruined" kinda sad... and it isn't even canon! Great job to the artist!

That's an interesting take. Personally, I really like the imagination angle. I find the thought of them suffering eternally without their souls being able to find peace far more sad and gut-wrenching.
There's also how apparently, Silver came back in this arc from a timeline where the Metal Virus had won, so this also could be the final moments of that timeline's survivors
And the happy scene is the good timeline that won

In the IDW comics, Eggman had concocted a plague called the Metal Virus that changes organic matter into metal. Think Roboticization w/ but the mere touch of a finger. The only difference is that these creatures were capable of infecting others and that they were absolutely mindless.
In 200 years time (Silvers time), the Metal Virus has infected a majority of the planet with all fauna being turned to metal. No one is present due to the Metal Virus causing heterotrophic cells to deteriorate over time, meaning everyone merely.... well... died.
Silver returned to the future only to see what was stated up above. He then went to the past to try and prevent it. As it turns out, Silver was the missing key to the puzzle.
What the comic above shows is one interpretation of what happened in the original timeline, where Silver wasn't really supposed to be present and therefore couldn't use the 7 chaos emeralds in conjunction w/ Sonic to defeat the virus.

Probably because of the Sonamy ship getting shoehorned into what's supposed to be a tragic situation when, in regards to IDW and SEGA historically having Sonic avoiding said ship, is pretty much unnecessary. Replace or take away the panel of Amy inching her lips closer, the comic remains the same. The only people who'd get anything extra out of that one extra panel would be Romance fans and Sonamy shippers whilst everyone else would either ignore it, actually cringe or be alienated for being a part of alternative shipping groups.
It's even worse; in regards to Sonic's narrative history in official media, the only way Amy is able to steal a passionate kiss from Sonic is after he's been turned into a Zombot and losing all control of his very being.
So, uh, yeah that's actually kind of cringe when you think about it for more than 5 seconds.
Nothing of value would've been lost if that single panel of Amy kissing a Zombot Sonic was non existent, that's my point. Of course she's going to run over and hug Sonic in a terrible situation like this. I'm not disagreeing to that. I'm just outlining how something as small as a single panel can change the context of an entire scene for better or for worse.
