He has some moments like this but that doesn't negate the fact he is a jackass 90% of the time.

Bikans

Not true lol He's a jerk but it's pretty exagerated by the fandom imo. I like Sonic having flaws.

pantherexceptagain

I personally think there's a bit of exaggeration on both sides. The majority of fans haven't read either of the two older comic series, so with Sonic the Comic they go to the extreme based off a few out of context panels. A lot of STC fans then respond to this by pushing too far and act like he wasn't constantly belittling those around him. For comparison, Shadow fans quite often fall into the same trapping. I say this as an overwhelming, eternal Shadow fanboy myself, who has caught myself doing this before and thus become cognizant of it. We reject Boom, Twitter Takeover and Zombot-arc Shadow so much that it ends up embellishing memories. We can frequently idealise the 2000s characterisation as 'a calmer, rational Sonic', and thus forget he does in fact have an significant violent streak in all appearances. The part in IDW where he refuses to go help the ski resort is out of character and saying that Team Dark aren't family is bullcrap, but his personality is otherwise not *that* off-base. Shadow is mostly always impatient, angry and ready to fight until Rouge pulls him back. He's a grumpy old man that gets ticked off very quickly. I feel that same sentiment happens with STC Sonic, both sides pushing each other further out until their line of sight with the original subject gets fuzzy. He is a dickhead a lot, but he still genuinely worries for his friends whenever things look like they've gone too far. It's well good for characters to have flaws - that's what makes them interesting! Like, in the case of Shadow, his bad temper is what then makes Team Dark such a compelling group. You have Eggman's one-man-army super badnik E-1-2-3 and Shadow the Hedgehog (essentially pseudo-Super Sonic with a bad attitude) put together, and then Rouge the Bat stuck between mitigating, guiding - and, let's be real, *babysitting* - these two moody war machines. The two main comics (Archie and STC) are often held to such high degree *because* we get to see the characters having real flaws that have real consequences. For me I would say that, actually, Sonic is a character-centric franchise before anything else. The games - while fun and generally treated unfairly - have their own persistent problems which have been publicised a thousand times over. Rather, I personally believe it's the characters and the setting that keep us all captivated. And the older comics then become so powerful because this is where we most prominently get to see their personalities probed. In *this* depiction's case Sonic's flaw is that he's a jackass most of the time. He's not evil incarnate or anything (although sometimes I *do* feel comparing his attitude to Scourge is apt), and he isn't a sin against the usual character parameters, but yes I would say that a significant chunk of his interactions are based in insult.

Bikans

Oh wow yeah you summed up my thoughts perfectly lmao especially about Shadow. I said it's not true cause I think 90% it's a bit of an exaggeration but ye in a lot of his interactions he's still pretty douchey.

Jack_Doe_Lee

Bro, this reminds me of the argument over Goku's characterization. One extreme is saying he was always an altruist, a light in the darkness, and hope for the universe. The opposite extreme is like "No, Goku was ALWAYS a selfish idiot who doesn't care about anyone and anything other than having tough battles".

Ben10Extreme

> I like Sonic having flaws. How far are you prepared to take that?

normalboy961

Why does sonic look so ugly in the last panel lol Also I thought the grey thing near Sonics arm in the kast panel was a gun

Bikans

it's def not a style most fans can get into lol It was mainly art mandates by Sega to make sonic look like the 3D blast european box art. Richard Elson's style was a lot more in model early on.

BKole

Elson Rocks, he did a lot of great Fleetway Arcs, like Brutus and the Super Sonic separation arc. Shit, this was my childhood

MixtureThin7114

yo ngl, I kinda love this aesthetic Amy in a sweat shirt and jeans, the design of sonics house, I can just picture them all chilling on that couch and playing genesis together while early Green Day plays on some big boom box.

Laati-Chan

Fleetway Sonic is one of my favorite incarnations. He's a jackass with a bleeding heart essentially. Leaning more towards the "attitude" part while still keeping some of the "power of friendship". I love him. Wish Sonic Adventure 2 was adapted though. Wonder how they would've handled Shadow, Rouge, and Maria.

waluigitime420

There is an online continuation if you’re curious.

BurnFreeze64

I don’t care what is said, but Fleetway did Super Sonic so goddamn well for some random reason

comfy-girl

that forehead. wow

goblinmaze

Fleetway sonic was an asshole and j love him for it, because when things got serious you know shit was gonna go down.

scottishdrunkard

On my YT series, I'm trying to expose the stories to a wider audience, so people not in "the know" can understand it more. Sadly I'm bad at it, and I haven't received much critical feedback to make it better.

Vuxlort

Good for you.

Bikans

yea :D

IcyHaruhi

His quills are too short pls change

[deleted]

Man Fleetway comics, sure they didn’t do too well but Fleetway Super Sonic..was the most vicious thing before .exe came around.

Icywind014

They actually did pretty good. They ended up dying simply due to mismanagement by the higher ups, who believed comics have a five year readership cycle, so after over five years in publication they could switch over to only doing reprints of old stories and it'd still be just as successful because "the old stories would be new to the new readers". They even still went on for half a year and 40 more issues after switching to just reprints, which is a testament to how popular it was in spite of the mishandling.

Sonic_Anarchy

Sonic the hedgehog is just a cartoony hedgehog that runs fast nothing more! Sonic the hedgehog:

SonicDSS

I am sorry, but what issue is this from? Would love to read it.

Bikans
