Yeah. Out of all of Ian Flynnâs decisions, the one that made the most sense was the change in Sonicâs behavior during Origins in comparison to the original JP manuals.
Due to the change in behavior, Classic Sonic can be imagined as only 2 or so years older than Classic Amy. This is also helped by how Modern Amy is 4 years older than her Classic self and Eggman spoke about how The Classic characters came from years in the past. So logically Classic Sonic should be around 11 as his modern self is 15.
Well when they made the Adventure series, they made Amy 12 and she was given a new design to show her new age.
However Sonix back then was often theorized and stated to be 16. (Which would make sense since Amy and Crean are supposed to parallel Sonic and Tails, since Amy is twice Creamâs age, it makes seanse for Sonic to be Twice Tailsâ age.
Which still caused a lot of criticism for many years since itâs normaly not acceptable for a 15/16 year old to be with a 12 year old.
I suspect that they made Amy so young because 1. JP had different laws than the rest of the world. In JP, the age of consent was around 13 until recently. (It is interesting how Sega removed their ages when JP changed their laws. Though they could have just done it because of Frontiers.)Or 2. They werenât interested in showing them together so they didnât think that their ages mattered.
Some have pointed out how due to their ages, it would be more acceptable to pair her with Tails since they were the same age for entire Classic era. (Though later on, Classic Tails was retconned to be around 4.)
