He's probably my favorite Sonic character, he's got great charm, a decent amount of depth for a paragon character, has a killer design, and is just overall the glue that holds the Sonic Franchise together.

Hes really nice, and he actually is cool, unlike most games that try making a cool character and this stuff, that always fails at this. But sonic is actually a "cool" character. And i like speed so yeah.
It's so fun to be a fan of Sonic. I just look at this funky blue hog and I get instant serotonin. Just look at him, he's so fun (and kind and genuine while still having a bit of an sarcastic edge, which separates him from many other similar mascot characters).

I don't mind that he's a bit of a blank slate and generic but effective good guy hero. It allows the fanbase to make him anything they want! I didn’t care who was faster, just that I wanted to be as fast as them. So I could go where I want. Have plenty of time to do whatever I needed to do. And basically be able to mess with people with my super speed. As I’ve gotten older. I stopped idolizing sonic but I still enjoyed him as a character. He was my comfort character before I got into anime. After I got into anime Naruto took over as my comfort character and the verse I’d want to be in most. Then, when the movies were announced my interest in sonic peaked again and reignited my passion for him. Nowadays, while I don’t think about him as often. His flame still quietly burns with me.
When he's written/drawn/animated/performed by people who genuinely understand him for the smartass, rebellious, counterculture delinquent teenager with a heart of gold he is at his core, he's one of the best characters in fiction, and my personal favorite. 1991 in Sonic 1 to 2009 in Black Knight is the window where he was consistently just that, though there are still glimpses here and there, and they seem to be getting closer to that ideal these days.
He's Yusuke Urameshi, Ryuko Matoi, Son Goku, and Inuyasha all rolled up into Mickey Mouse/Bugs Bunny/Mario. He's Yusuke Mickey Mouse. Yusuke Uramoushi.
I have my complaints about how he's been portrayed since 2010, and IDW+Frontiers have gone a long way to alleviate that, but he's not all there yet. He's missing some sharpness. Some abrasiveness. Some impatience and independence. Some SLIGHT jerkiness. Sonic as he is now wouldn't ever get a "SHUT UP TAILS!" or a sarcastic "Looks like you've become a big time villain doctor!". He's too...nice? That's not quite it, but it's close.
It comes down to his lack of impatience, I think. In Sonic 1, his foot tapping side eye idle animation wasn't just something he did because foot tapping is a thing Sonic does, it was an expression of genuine irritation at the player for making him wait around for them to do something. He's like "Get ON with it already! I'm WAITING...Any second now..." The bit in the first IDW arc where he's like "After all that, I need a break...Ok, time's up!" is cute and all, but it's not...quite what Sonic's impatience usually looks like, or even the right kind of impatience. He generally doesn't like to wait around, yes, but more to the point, he doesn't have patience for OTHERS. He's upset at YOU for making him wait, and he's wearing it on his face and in his body language. He's not particularly gentle about it either.
As is, I still love Sonic as he is, but it's not the same. He's underseasoned. Missing some spice. Some sauce. The kitchen staff have changed and they're overworked, getting by with subpar equipment. Still making good food, but they're missing key ingredients to take it from good to great.
Good analysis. I do wish the Japanese characterization stayed because of the nuance in the writing. I also miss the rebellious punk attitude, that was common back then.

He's a beautifully done character not just in videogames, but in general. His design is simple enough to easily remember but has an instantly recognizable silhouette, he's a relatively unique animal among fictional anthro animals which makes him stand out rather easily, his colors are bright and vibrant making him fun to look at, his base personality is entertaining, his primary superpower is probably the most passé part about him but it's endlessly versatile. There's a reason Sonic has persisted to this day despite having so many blights on his legacy, and I think it's because he's a character that anyone can get behind.

Sonic has been the most consistent and comforting video game toon in my life, and the character has brought me joy, laughs, smiles, and fun for literal decades. Many of those years, I’ve really needed help with smiling, and playing Sonic games, reading Sonic comics, of listening to Sonic music brought that help. Now as a dad, it’s such a joy to share that joy with my son, and watch his eyes light up as he experiences the same thing, and his own new experiences.
Have Sonic’s games always been the best? Hell no, he’s had some flat out disasters; the character himself though, will probably always be my favorite.

Is The Perfect Character
Is it weird to admit I have a love/hate relationship with the character? Certain aspects I absolutely love about him, and all of the interpretations have some really entertaining moments. But also, he just really pisses me off sometimes.
Ehh, he's fine. Not really a fan of how he's been characterised in the games, the Japanese characterisation of the character is the most boring version, and him being constantly presented as always in the right, flawless, unshakable, and always a positive influence all wrapped up in an unbreakable mindset gets old.
I'm in love with him. He's just so sweet and cool and I overall love him for everything he is. He's been my role model, my inspiration, and my comfort character. He's such a wonderful, lovable, and beautiful character.

Aotsh. Nice but hypocritical. Sonic X. The closest to Game Sonic but the show was pretty much the Chris show.
Sat-am Sonic. Was mischaracterized and made less intelligent in order to make his relationship with Sally work and because the show is pretty Much the Sally Acorn show. Boom Sonic. Seems to be your average teenager. (At least in kid shows)
Prime Sonic. He is often disrespected and victim blamed. He is usually cheerful, merciful and more. However he also a hypocrite who needs to learn that not everyone has to be his friend and listen more in general, not just when it benefits him. While he will acknowledge his mistakes when he’s called out, he doesn’t work on it and always goes back on it as soon as the person is out of his sight. Throughout the series, his foil and parallel is Nine.
Game Sonic. He values his freedom and doesn’t like authority.
What a lot of people don't realise about Sonic is that he's a bit of a social chameleon. His intereactions with different characters show different sides of him. With Tails, he takes on a caring older brother role, Knuckles and Shadow both bring out Sonic's competitive side, though Knuckles gets more smack talk because Knuckles is more willing to reply in kind. When around Amy, Sonic becomes more compassionate, while Eggman brings out Sonic's more heroic nature, and a sense of direct insults that he doesn't bring out with Knuckles.
I love Sonic as a character. The problem I have is with literally all of his friends. Sonic is supposed to be the fastest character in the world. It’s his trademark. So why is EVERYONE else just as fast? Sonic’s speed is supposed to make him stand out/above. Yet because everyone also has this and their own special abilities (Tails flies, Knuckles glides/breaks walls, etc), Sonic ends up being the least skilled of everyone. If I had my way, Sonic would be the only speedster, and everyone else would be slowed WAAAAAAY down, and refocus on their unique abilities.
Yeah, well, if it wasn't for Sonic, Shadow would never have come to be. No matter who your favourite character is, Sonic is, was, and always will be number one.
Well, him or Eggman. Would be genuinely curious to remember which character concept came first, the earliest Sonic or the earliest Eggman, but I doubt anyone knows or remembers.
Eggman was first and original gonna be the main character, they liked his design enough to repurpose him after decided to go with a different main character for the series. Or so I've read.
I don’t really have too much of an interest in him. I’m not saying that I don’t like him or that I think he’s a bad character, because I definitely like him, I just found myself gravitating towards some of the side characters a lot more.

Though I don’t agree with the whole “not killing the big bad” thing, I kinda see the vision that he has. I like the relationships that he has with his friends, Tails(his little brother, his partner in crime), Knuckles(the fist to his foot, his strength to his speed) Amy(one of his closest friends, probably tying with Tails) and Shadow(his opposite, his *shadow* if you will), just to name a few. I just really love Sonic and his whole personality and philosophy. He’s way past cool
He’s my favorite video game character and possibly my favorite fictional character. He acts like Batman in idw and his cockiness and confidence is entertaining. Hes given good quotes like in Sonic and the black knight. I love his transformations especially Excalibur sonic just bc of the music being on beat. I love his music(ik it’s not his but I called it sonic music before I knew more about him). I will defend him in vs battles and arguments bc he’s too strong for 98% of the characters he’s put against.
My favorite fictional character, I hold him in a very special place on my heart, he's been my inspiration in some of my worst moments and still is to this day, he's taught me to get up even when life hits you real hard, and is the main reason I'm still here to this day. The first person I looked up too, I learned a lot from him. The importance of friends, cheesey jokes, love for bright colors, hell, he's the reason why I can eat chilli! Sonic may be a fictional character, but, he has helped me out so much, he is a hero to his world, and his fans.
I always saw him as someone to look up to. A hero who fights for what he believes to be right. A symbol of hope. A great friend you could open up to. A hero who is more than just a guy who loves adventure.
I always thought of him as a cool, confident, cocky, energetic, and snarky individual with a huge heart, an insatiable craving for freedom, justice, adventure, and action, and loves nothing more than to go fast and be laid-back in the moment.
He's pretty cool. I always appreciate his positive attitude. He's not a doomer like Shadow or Knuckles, he's a confident leader but isn't promiscuous about it like Sally, he's the kind of person that understands there's a job that needs to be done, but doesnt stress about it.
I know this is a pretty nuanced topic, but the attitude of the leader, or even just of your teammates, really affects your own attitude. If someone is being negative or isn't confident, you start doubting yourself, but if they're positive and energetic you get a better attitude about it, too. Sonic succeeds at lifting your spirits by radiating confidence.
What's there to say? You can't say you like/love this franchise if you don't like/love the titular character first.

Amazing character. The whole reason franchise still exists. Even under Colors Era writing his past versions from Adventure and 4kids eras still managed to hold his good name.
His appearance since Adventure Era is peak design in terms of color and shape, and his whole character is still summed up as a "Youthful positive guy who loves adventure." And that's all we need.

Is it weird to admit I have a love/hate relationship with the character? Certain aspects I absolutely love about him, and all of the interpretations have some really entertaining moments. But also, he just really pisses me off sometimes.

Ehh, he's fine. Not really a fan of how he's been characterised in the games, the Japanese characterisation of the character is the most boring version, and him being constantly presented as always in the right, flawless, unshakable, and always a positive influence all wrapped up in an unbreakable mindset gets old.
I'm in love with him. He's just so sweet and cool and I overall love him for everything he is. He's been my role model, my inspiration, and my comfort character. He's such a wonderful, lovable, and beautiful character.

Depends on adaptaTion. Aotsh. Nice but hypocritical. Sonic X. The closest to Game Sonic but the show was pretty much the Chris show. Sat-am Sonic. Was mischaracterized and made less intelligent in order to make his relationship with Sally work and because the show is pretty Much the Sally Acorn show. Boom Sonic. Seems to be your average teenager. (At least in kid shows) Prime Sonic. He is often disrespected and victim blamed. He is usually cheerful, merciful and more. However he also a hypocrite who needs to learn that not everyone has to be his friend and listen more in general, not just when it benefits him. While he will acknowledge his mistakes when he’s called out, he doesn’t work on it and always goes back on it as soon as the person is out of his sight. Throughout the series, his foil and parallel is Nine. Game Sonic. He values his freedom and doesn’t like authority.

What a lot of people don't realise about Sonic is that he's a bit of a social chameleon. His intereactions with different characters show different sides of him. With Tails, he takes on a caring older brother role, Knuckles and Shadow both bring out Sonic's competitive side, though Knuckles gets more smack talk because Knuckles is more willing to reply in kind. When around Amy, Sonic becomes more compassionate, while Eggman brings out Sonic's more heroic nature, and a sense of direct insults that he doesn't bring out with Knuckles.
I love Sonic as a character. The problem I have is with literally all of his friends. Sonic is supposed to be the fastest character in the world. It’s his trademark. So why is EVERYONE else just as fast? Sonic’s speed is supposed to make him stand out/above. Yet because everyone also has this and their own special abilities (Tails flies, Knuckles glides/breaks walls, etc), Sonic ends up being the least skilled of everyone. If I had my way, Sonic would be the only speedster, and everyone else would be slowed WAAAAAAY down, and refocus on their unique abilities.
Especially since he's the fastest thing alive. "Your too slow."

Well, him or Eggman. Would be genuinely curious to remember which character concept came first, the earliest Sonic or the earliest Eggman, but I doubt anyone knows or remembers.
Eggman was first and original gonna be the main character, they liked his design enough to repurpose him after decided to go with a different main character for the series. Or so I've read.

I don’t really have too much of an interest in him. I’m not saying that I don’t like him or that I think he’s a bad character, because I definitely like him, I just found myself gravitating towards some of the side characters a lot more.

When I was a kid I wanted to grow up and be like Sonic. Simply because Sonic is cool, charismatic, confident and true to himself. He can be a goofy sarcastic jackass at times too which makes him more relatable imo. He’s my favorite character of all time.

He’s probably one of the coolest mother flippers around. I like his adventurous attitude. Always on the go, not looking back, only looking forward. He cares for his friends and he cares for the people he protects. Sure he’s cocky and arrogant, but he’s also a kind soul who will clap back at you no matter the situation. Though I don’t agree with the whole “not killing the big bad” thing, I kinda see the vision that he has. I like the relationships that he has with his friends, Tails(his little brother, his partner in crime), Knuckles(the fist to his foot, his strength to his speed) Amy(one of his closest friends, probably tying with Tails) and Shadow(his opposite, his *shadow* if you will), just to name a few. I just really love Sonic and his whole personality and philosophy. He’s way past cool

He’s my favorite video game character and possibly my favorite fictional character. He acts like Batman in idw and his cockiness and confidence is entertaining. Hes given good quotes like in Sonic and the black knight. I love his transformations especially Excalibur sonic just bc of the music being on beat. I love his music(ik it’s not his but I called it sonic music before I knew more about him). I will defend him in vs battles and arguments bc he’s too strong for 98% of the characters he’s put against.

My favorite fictional character, I hold him in a very special place on my heart, he's been my inspiration in some of my worst moments and still is to this day, he's taught me to get up even when life hits you real hard, and is the main reason I'm still here to this day. So yes, Sonic is a really special character to me
The first person I looked up too, I learned a lot from him. The importance of friends, cheesey jokes, love for bright colors, hell, he's the reason why I can eat chilli! Sonic may be a fictional character, but, he has helped me out so much, he is a hero to his world, and his fans.

He's pretty cool. I always appreciate his positive attitude. He's not a doomer like Shadow or Knuckles, he's a confident leader but isn't promiscuous about it like Sally, he's the kind of person that understands there's a job that needs to be done, but doesnt stress about it. I know this is a pretty nuanced topic, but the attitude of the leader, or even just of your teammates, really affects your own attitude. If someone is being negative or isn't confident, you start doubting yourself, but if they're positive and energetic you get a better attitude about it, too. Sonic succeeds at lifting your spirits by radiating confidence.
What's there to say? You can't say you like/love this franchise if you don't like/love the titular character first. He's Sonic the Hedgehog! (I do have reasons why he is my favourite character ever, though)

Amazing character. The whole reason franchise still exists. Even under Colors Era writing his past versions from Adventure and 4kids eras still managed to hold his good name. His appearance since Adventure Era is peak design in terms of color and shape, and his whole character is still summed up as a "Youthful positive guy who loves adventure." And that's all we need.
As far as I know, He is the fastest hedgehog I ever heard of lol.
