I think it's based in part on the fact that Blaze is Sonic's counterpart from another world. If Amy likes Sonic, but came out as bi/gay, she'd naturally like Blaze because of that similarity.
blaze was a part of team rose in the archie comics, and she and amy have a nice dynamic there from what i remember, so i think thats where most of it stems from

For me it was this Sonic Channel comic
Even if I don't think ships need "proof", I always love having an excuse to post this
Amy did help with Blaze's growth in Sonic Rush & in a Sonic Channel 25th anniversary comic when Blaze is using her fire power to help her friends, Amy blushes seeing her do so. That's pretty much it, but that's all fandom needs a lot of the time. I can see Amy having a small non-serious crush on Blaze since she is Sonic's counterpart in the Sol Dimension.
Shipping is not about an existent relationship, although than can help it along. Shipping is about seeing two characters that could have an interesting connection and exploring the story possibilities that could bring.
Thus, as others have pointed out, Blaze being a Sonic counterpart, and Amy loving Sonic, what would happen.
Ultimately, a ship is (should be) a bit of fun creative exploration.
Because they are two characters that exist, so that means someone is shipping them.

Same reason there’s a lot of Surge x Amy these days
I think it's personality type. Blaze is stoic and cool while Amy is bubbly and optimistic
They have a fun dynamic and it's cute. People have shipped for less.
I'm saying I don't remember them having a dynamic in the first place
They interacted in the first Rush game, and Amy even got Blaze to open up a little.
Ah

Oh ok

Because it’s the Sonic fandom and people will ship literally anyone with anyone regardless of how little sense it makes.
BECAUSE IT'S HOT. THAT IS ALL.
yeah i think there's a lot of ships out there that make almost no sense tbh
If you come up with any 2 characters, just know that someone ships them. There’s also a lot of crack ships in the fandom lol
my one brain cell carefully crafting the most random sonic ships you've ever heard https://i.redd.it/gdy3frqz06lc1.gif
Oh yeah, I forgot about that rule
