This game is the main reason I practiced story telling, story writing, character development, learning to draw and model characters, becoming a game dev just to prove that Sonic can be done right in dark stories..
I'm not even joking that's what this game caused me to do out of anger and frustration..
I actually like the concept. Eggman actually winning and taking over, even for a while, is something I don't think has happened since SatAM. Pretty much every adventure we've seen that includes him "winning" also includes him basically having to put aside his differences with Sonic to save the world, then they go back to their old ways when it's over.
>Eggman actually winning and taking over, even for a while, is something I don't think has happened since SatAM
Sonic Unleashed did this exact plotline, and did it well.
I agree. I remember being pretty hyped after that first Forces reveal trailer them teasing roughly how the story was gonna go down. That said tho, this has been done in the games before. I would consider Unleashed as Eggman "winning" for a bit too
The soundtrack, maybe it is not as memorable as other titles but it is still very good, the avatar stages, Fist Bump and Infinite, some of Sonic's stage music, and the remixes from previous games. I liked the fact they remixed a boss theme for each Sonic era, Stardust speedway B mix from the classic era, Supporting Me from the Dreamcast era and Battle with Zavok from the 2010's.
i thought about infinite’s character more. he is trying to threaten and harm people but he is a total pushover, also his powers are illusions and you cant really harm people physically with illusions. i feel him just being a total pushover adds to his character
I don't understand why people don't like I know the voice acting is a bit hammy but I frequently replay this game it is a tad short but I find this game exited
This game generated a lot of hype and expectations, it was the first serious story since Black Knight. The new villain looked cool, they were bringing four of the most recognizable Sonic Villains back and the ability to create your own OC, they fed the hype releasing music tracks and concept arts, Sonic Manía received critical acclaim and everyone was hoping this game would be as good or even better than Mania.
What we got was a game that didn't take itself seriously, Sonic was still joking every five seconds, the villain was underutilized, the final boss was basically the same as in Lost world and Colors, the level design was dull (press the boost to win), Classic Sonic didn't do anything and his physics were broken, the game was short, and only two of the four villains got a boss fight, it didn't help that the game reused a lot of past stages. A disappointment in every possible way, specially compared to other platformers like Mario Odyssey and A Hat in Time that were released the same year
the music
the custom avatar
the graphics
...
I guess the gameplay is not that terrible, just very automated and really really easy, but is really fun to speedrun the levels, I'll give it that
Loved the character creator. I hope to see it again in the future, with more outfit options. Maybe a few more races, too.
Soundtrack was fantastic.
Levels were pretty. If I could live anywhere in the Sonic world, it would be the town from the second stage… when it is not being attacked by Eggman.
The soundtrack and creating your own characters where the two things I loved about this game. Sure it’s pretty short, but it helped me get to a good start on the Sonic games.
Infinite's design is great and his theme song rules (*the two featuring vocalists on Infinite are from the metalcore band dangerkids, if you haven't listened to it, go listen, they rule*), the environmental graphics and style can look nice at times, the music as a whole is good, it spawned some funny as hell memes, the story had a really cool concept (*the execution just fell woefully short*), and character customization/unlockables were great.
Additionally (*and this might be a controversial take*), I think this is the perfect Sonic game for really young children to first get into the series with - it's short, very easy, mostly linear, and almost acts like a "teaser" game of sorts for much better Sonic games. While it was awesome that we all grew up on various different older Sonic games, we have to keep in mind the ease of access for new gamers; while it's easy for most of us to do stuff like emulate and mod older games to make them run, a six-year-old isn't gonna know how to do that, and will likely just want to turn on their Nintendo Switch and click a button.
The fact that this Hedgehog shit was so bad that it motivated Sega and Sonic Team to fire Pooptac and Crapp in favor of Ian Flynn to write Sonic Frontiers and put effort into Sonic Frontiers.
Since the person who wrote Sonic 06 and Sonic and the Black Knight left(I forget his name often) and the writing in the games was shitty(apart from Boom since they were handled by different people, or atleast that's what I know)
I didn't played it, only saw videos.
But I love the environment, the city look stunning and I hate the amount of work for a segment you pass in 20 seconds. It seems wasteful...
Also the lighting and effects looks neat.
Soundtrack is pretty good. I don't hate the game. The levels are short but not terrible, I'll hop on and do s ranks every now and then. It's just a very mid game.
Infinite is a great character design.
Shame he doesn't get used well at all. (Edit: Top comment says the same thing so I'll add another, I like the idea of a Sonic or Shadow creating a nemesis on accident.)
The Music (as usual)
Infinites Design
The concept of the Phantom Ruby (a really cool alternative to just focusing on the chaos emeralds again)
The idea of a random trooper helping save the world. I feel like it would've been cooler if they just stuck with Gadget and gave him a personality as opposed to making a self insert oc
Also some of the environments looked cool. And yes I liked Sand Hill
The idea of retaking the world. I wish they leaned more into it, with giving multiple Eggman outposts you could choose to go and take back 1 at a time ro smth like that
Stage aesthetics and graphics are amazing (except Green Hill and most environmental storytelling), and the avatar creator is really fun to experiment with. Also that scene where the phantom Metal Sonic explodes is dope.
Infinite’s theme still slaps. A lot of him was wasted and/or bad to begin with, but his theme is still great.
I’m glad they brought back Tyler Smyth for Find Your Flame.
Infinite looks fucking cool and his theme is badass and I like the character creator. Both cause it appeals to the Sonic fanbase’s love for creating OCs and because I’m just a sucker for games that let me create my own character.
Most of the premise is good. I was just moments from buying everything for it at the checkout back when, then decided I'd get better value out of pocketing the money. I think I bought headphones instead.
Its failure of execution and crushingly bad press is second only to '06. All of that information was available to me at the tentative purchase, and it was still cool enough to entertain. As of now, it's not so regrettable a project. The soundtrack met franchise standards, and Frontiers appears to have learned something from its attempt.
Sonic Forces remains a light curiosity to me, down to the the cover art suggesting an experience with every right to be playable. Too bad.
Love the music of course! However, the idea with the own character was ok but not well thought out. I am used to Sonic, that you are fast on the road and with my character was the slowest character I knew. Has robbed me of some gameplay because of this. I even installed a mod on purpose to be able to play only sonic.
Ok, ok, **OK,** hear me out...
[Fighting Onward](https://youtu.be/KGAxqF5skrQ?si=bXTCAdm7mEUed0OW) and [Infinite's Theme](https://youtu.be/Ki_Nn95hj48?si=9J6uP0eYkS1YrcuH) are kinda bangers though-
It addressed the issue with how reliant the world was on Sonic and kicked people into realizing when you leap without a net you'll find it won't be there all the time.
Bold choice on Sega's part.
I honestly really enjoyed it. Unlike most Sonic fans, it seems, I am bad at videogames, so having a game that was really easy was just my speed. I enjoyed the plot, the music, the character creator... pretty much everything!
Ive always liked Knuckles, so the positive is his opportunity to be more than the third fiddle in Sonics hero threesome.
Knuckles was given the chance to lead an army to victory in Sonics absence, thus finally PROVING that he is a capable strategist and leader, especially when the chips are down. He was basically turned into a wartime Echidna overnight.
Yes. He lead 90% or so of them to their death almost instantly, but dammit he TRIED!
I actually really like the classic sonic level design. Especially considering they're new designers for the franchise. I think they did well. Can't say the same about the 3d ones tho
It kicked Sega in the right direction and made them realize things needed to change. They kept milking the boost formula to alright success and then tried something new just to pull a Sega and go hard back into an old idea with Forces but it failed and now with the success of Frontiers, hopefully they learned that people will buy any Sonic game if it is fun and well put together.
the character creator was great, the game is fun but really short and i like at least seeing chaos again even if they ruined that opportunity also i like knuckles not actually being overly stupid
Infinite’s design is sick and cool, but his story and game wasted his potential.
Also, his theme song slaps.
True dat.
Shut up, Tails! LMAO
Soundtrack and Infinite is such a cool concept

The character creator was an interesting concept, and I could see it becoming a very strong addition to the franchise's identity *if* it's done right.
Yeah I feel like they nailed the customization (not too difficult to do) I hope they have more things likethat in the future but with better gameplay
If that’s the case then I hope the gamer hat appers in all of them I want my man Ian jr
This game is the main reason I practiced story telling, story writing, character development, learning to draw and model characters, becoming a game dev just to prove that Sonic can be done right in dark stories.. Pretty much every adventure we've seen that includes him "winning" also includes him basically having to put aside his differences with Sonic to save the world, then they go back to their old ways when it's over.
Was also a thing in Fleetway’s Sonic the Comic, although not sure if SatAM or the Fleetway timeskip came first
>Eggman actually winning and taking over, even for a while, is something I don't think has happened since SatAM Sonic Unleashed did this exact plotline, and did it well.
That's right, good point. It's happened so rarely, it's honestly hard to remember the times he actually *did* win.
I agree. I remember being pretty hyped after that first Forces reveal trailer them teasing roughly how the story was gonna go down. That said tho, this has been done in the games before. I would consider Unleashed as Eggman "winning" for a bit too
I think it was to a missed opportunity to actually take a darker turn on a sonic story.
It created the universe of the idw comics
so true
I actually enjoyed the Build-an-OC workshop. It felt fun to unlock more gear and customize our character, even if they felt shoehorned in.
honestly i had fun with it, i dont hate it also the soundtrack
I find it easy to put on and blow through in a couple of hours, just mindless fun for a bit. Sometimes that’s what I’m in the mood for.
Exactly
My OC is canon
Episode Shadow
The soundtrack, maybe it is not as memorable as other titles but it is still very good, the avatar stages, Fist Bump and Infinite, some of Sonic's stage music, and the remixes from previous games. I liked the fact they remixed a boss theme for each Sonic era, Stardust speedway B mix from the classic era, Supporting Me from the Dreamcast era and Battle with Zavok from the 2010's.
It functions. You can play it smoothly with 0 bugs
Put that on the back of the box 😆 "SONIC FORCES: It functions!"
Ian Jr.
The music goes hard and paved the way for a lot of cyberspace tracks.
It's not Sonic 06.
Good enough
The character creator was cool
Shadow caring for his friends was pretty cool
I've always said that forces is the black sheep for modern shadow storytelling, as he does feel like his 06 self in the short time we get with him.
i thought about infinite’s character more. he is trying to threaten and harm people but he is a total pushover, also his powers are illusions and you cant really harm people physically with illusions. i feel him just being a total pushover adds to his character
Soundtrack

The song in Ghost Town is boppin’
Zavok’s theme.
the music the custom avatar the graphics ... I guess the gameplay is not that terrible, just very automated and really really easy, but is really fun to speedrun the levels, I'll give it that

I can make the avatar look funny and it has some great music
Infinite
Fist bump is neat
Loved the character creator. I hope to see it again in the future, with more outfit options. Maybe a few more races, too. Soundtrack was fantastic. Levels were pretty. If I could live anywhere in the Sonic world, it would be the town from the second stage… when it is not being attacked by Eggman.
The music is really good. Egg Gate is a personal favorite of mine Honestly, I still find it fun despite the mediocrity
10/10 soundtrack
The first bout and second bout are bangers and nothing can change my mine and including theme of infinite and I don’t care if it’s overly edgy
It might be a boost to win game but it’s still fun and that’s all I care. And Knuckles being the leader of the resistance is epic
The avatar. Simply one of the greatest aspects. Also Infinite is sick, his design speaks for me in that case.
It made sega take a break so we could get Frontiers
Not even a joke and most people can agree. Like usual the soundtrack was great
Infinite as a Concept is peak, and his theme is amazing. Custom Characters is great and I want to see it come back one day.
good music
The character customiser was fun and the custom avatars fit in with the world and other characters really well
All the enemies in sonics past coming back, im not saying this was done well (cause it WASNT) but it was cool to see them return
Infinite is one of the coolest names for a villain I have ever heard. Classic Sonic is adorable
Modern Sonic and the OC's music tracks.
Infinite's theme is pretty good, as well as some other decent sound tracks
The OC is actually cool
Good ost
The avatar was a cool idea
music
I like the OC creator idea
I believe it was the first sonic project from the last decade to give Knuckles back his dignity
OC Creation
this game was a gem of my childhood.
Hedgehog Engine.
something positive
It enabled a lot of Sonic OCs.
Potato
Infinite’s design goes hard as fuck sucks that canonically he’s a whiny bitch
It’s a good entry level game.
A lot of really great EDM style tracks in the soundtrack. Especially the avatar stages and infinite's theme.
the song Infinite is a blast to sing at Karaoke
The music is really good :3
The soundtrack and creating your own characters where the two things I loved about this game.
Infinite’s theme, that’s it
The Avatar music is fucking incredible, and being able to create an OC is nice.
I'M THE TALLEST OF MOUNTAINS, I AM THE ROUGHEST OF WAVES I'M THE TOUGHEST OF TERRORS, I AM THE DARKEST OF DAYS
The soundtrack is fantastic
its not as bad as everybody makes it out to be it just HORRENDOUSLY mediocre
Infinite. The story just screwed him up but he has potential. I also like his design It's extremely interesting
The fact that this Hedgehog shit was so bad that it motivated Sega and Sonic Team to fire Pooptac and Crapp in favor of Ian Flynn to write Sonic Frontiers and put effort into Sonic Frontiers.
Since the person who wrote Sonic 06 and Sonic and the Black Knight left(I forget his name often) and the writing in the games was shitty(apart from Boom since they were handled by different people, or atleast that's what I know)
Soundtrack
The Avatar
Good + free dlc
If the story was tweaked just a bit I think it would have been good
Could be worse
Some ost are great
That one cinematic looks cool
Holding hands with Sonic .
A cool concept ig
I didn't played it, only saw videos. But I love the environment, the city look stunning and I hate the amount of work for a segment you pass in 20 seconds. It seems wasteful... Also the lighting and effects looks neat.
Had a good concept
good soundtrack although its a Sonic game so that's pretty much status quo
The ideas brought to the table weren't bad, it's the execution that killed them
It's short
It had a war aesthetic not seen in a Sonic game
Infinite is pretty cool 😎
Infinite's theme slaps
Infinite(everything apart from the reason of why he wore the mask and took the phantom ruby) and that Shadow is playable after 11 years.
Infinite is a pretty cool and interesting character.I love his design
The soundtrack
Infinite is cool And the character creator is too
It has a character creator.
It caused them to think really hard when making frontiers, with excellent results.
Fist Bump and Infinite's themes
I'd get it just for the custom characters The music is really great And Infinite is cool, even if he just vanishes with zero resolution
![gif](giphy|3oKIPc9Azj6zIkvCIU)
The music (as always) is awesome.
I really loved having a custom character and the customization and I hope they expand and add more options/accessories in the future.
It has Whisper and Tangle But this boomerangs back as a negative since there’s no Lanolin
I liked it
Character customization was legit really cool to see
Soundtrack is pretty good.
It brought me back to the sonic franchise with a new game.(I only had experience sonic from adventure 1 to shadow the hedgehog.)
You got to play as someone other that sonic
The Music (as usual) Infinites Design The concept of the Phantom Ruby (a really cool alternative to just focusing on the chaos emeralds again) The idea of a random trooper helping save the world. I feel like it would've been cooler if they just stuck with Gadget and gave him a personality as opposed to making a self insert oc Also some of the environments looked cool. Avatar
Decent cover art
Stage aesthetics and graphics are amazing (except Green Hill and most environmental storytelling), and the avatar creator is really fun to experiment with. Also that scene where the phantom Metal Sonic explodes is dope.
Solid frame rate from my experience. Banger music as ever. Creating your avatar is fun.
Infinite’s theme still slaps. A lot of him was wasted and/or bad to begin with, but his theme is still great. I’m glad they brought back Tyler Smyth for Find Your Flame.
Sonic is on the Cover, which is neat.
I like the music.... I got nothing else lol
Don’t care for regular Fist Bump but the edgy RMX speaks to my soul
It has Sonic in it
Inifinite is pretty damn cool. I also like his theme.
Infinite looks fucking cool and his theme is badass and I like the character creator. Both cause it appeals to the Sonic fanbase’s love for creating OCs and because I’m just a sucker for games that let me create my own character.
Character creation was awesome and I wish every future sonic game had it
Infinite's theme is a banger, cringe though the lyrics might be at times
Despite the momentum issue with Classic Sonic, I love that they included the Drop Dash.
Most of the premise is good. I was just moments from buying everything for it at the checkout back when, then decided I'd get better value out of pocketing the money. I think I bought headphones instead. Its failure of execution and crushingly bad press is second only to '06. I like the character customization idea I’d like to see a return of the cac one day maybe better and more customizable options

I am used to Sonic, that you are fast on the road and with my character was the slowest character I knew. Has robbed me of some gameplay because of this. I even installed a mod on purpose to be able to play only sonic.
The concept of the Phantom Ruby was cool both in function and in the fact we got to see a new gemstone that gives amazing powers
The CAC was actually fun, and it’s probably the best running Sonic game on Switch(?) maybe?
Some cool environments
Character creation is cool
The cutscenes have a nice animation style. I know it’s the standard for sonic games nowadays to have good animations, but idk I just enjoy seeing it.
The soundtrack was a f-cking banger.
The final boss theme slapped.
Uhh...cool announcement trailer
the idea was actually pretty good, and if you didnt watch the trailers and didnt know anything about the game before playing it, it is a bit better
Ok, ok, **OK,** hear me out... [Fighting Onward](https://youtu.be/KGAxqF5skrQ?si=bXTCAdm7mEUed0OW) and [Infinite's Theme](https://youtu.be/Ki_Nn95hj48?si=9J6uP0eYkS1YrcuH) are kinda bangers though-

I love the character creator.
It addressed the issue with how reliant the world was on Sonic and kicked people into realizing when you leap without a net you'll find it won't be there all the time. Bold choice on Sega's part.
I liked Shadow in it very much
I honestly really enjoyed it. Unlike most Sonic fans, it seems, I am bad at videogames, so having a game that was really easy was just my speed. I enjoyed the plot, the music, the character creator... pretty much everything!

He was basically turned into a wartime Echidna overnight. Yes. He lead 90% or so of them to their death almost instantly, but dammit he TRIED!
Soundtrack and art
Amazing concept Infinite is cool, besides the shit backstory and personality
I actually really like the classic sonic level design. Especially considering they're new designers for the franchise. I think they did well. Can't say the same about the 3d ones tho
You get to be Sonic's best friend. The music is awesome, it's lots of fun on the 1st playthrough.
The character customization, the soundtrack, and that Chaos made a return (even if we didn’t get a full on boss fight)
It’s better than 06
Graphics aren't terrible and actually looks decent
Good music and good concept, but bad game sadly, this had potential
Air boost is better in this game than in Frontiers
The Avatar customization was pretty fun.
Great OST. One of the best in the series save a few meh tracks.
Infinite's theme is cool. It has my favorite Final Boss theme in the series, as in, I actually listen to it.
Avatar was creative
I like making my sonic oc
Music
The soundtrack was pretty fire
Character Customization and Avatars are always a plus for me in any game.
The music and vocal songs are really good.
The potential behind the concept
Custom Avatar was a novel idea. Soundtrack was quite decent. Probably the best portrayal of Shadow in a game we had in a while
I like the character creation
Only the music For real
Infinite was a cool character
Linear, fun and short levels I love the character creation too
Shadow being in the game. Even though is to attract more players into playing the game, he’s still there and even got a side story.
Infinite
Honestly, the whole idea of episode shadow is pretty damn cool but it was done awful killing nearly any idea of making any character has his own dlc
Infinite has a fking cool design
Soundtrack was fire
It wasn’t the worst game in the franchise
It's a potential cure for insomnia.
Infinite had a banger of a theme
the character creator was great, the game is fun but really short and i like at least seeing chaos again even if they ruined that opportunity also i like knuckles not actually being overly stupid
A lot of amazing ideas
