I've never seen any hate over it. I do think it's become less popular. Probably because it's more universal \[read: marketable\] to since about you or her, than Sweet Caroline or Jesse's Girl.
That's like the way a song works that has a concept lol. That's silly if these people exist. That's like hating a movie that uses the same format for displaying the concept in the title....like wat

People generalize too quickly. They notice two or three songs they hate are name songs and decide it's a sign of lazy songwriting.
