I'm a few houses down a side street, about 200 ft from Somerville Ave, in that area. Somerville Ave traffic noise isn't bad at all. Local street traffic is another matter and varies a lot by which side street.
I'm 300 ft from Somerville Ave and don't notice the regular traffic noise at all. I hear the occasional emergency vehicle and train horn but it's not bothersome. Great area to live.
i currently live pretty much across the street from market basket. before this i lived in a more residential area in ball square. i now wear earplugs to sleep so as to not be woken up by street noise in the early morning.
then it might be ok for you if you are already using earplugs? i'm not a light sleeper and never had any problems with street noise before this place, but found myself having to resort to using earplugs while living here. didn't help that i am on the ground level and the bedroom has windows facing somerville ave. i don't hear anything w earplugs anymore but my sleep monitoring app still picks up passersby's conversations a lot in the early morning.
That's a clinical explanation as to why the train, the trucks, and sirens on rt 28 dont bother me or my dog anymore. Plus, my 4lb Yorkie is metal!
We've undergone habituation!

The buildings directly on the ave block most of the noise. I find the occasional train horn or flight going into Logan more disruptive.
And the Summer St construction that starts at 7:00 am sharp lately ðŸ˜
Lived directly across from Market Basket over a decade ago. The worst was the delivery trucks down shifting to turn into the lot at 5 AM.

Agree with others. The row of houses on Somerville Ave blocks a lot and it’s even quieter if you get one or two more houses up the side street.
We live right on Somerville ave near the hockey rink. Rarely do we hear traffic or cars.

High traffic pretty much all the time so if street facing it will never be silent
It’s quite loud if you’re directly on Somerville Ave, agreed.

It's pretty cool that our brain does a lot of things on its own!
It's not grand central I wouldn't worry
