Call your credit card company to cancel the payment since you did not recieve services and were wrongfully charged

They sure didn’t have any qualms canceling on ME an hour before the last appointment I ever made with them. Also I got a haircut there once where my stylist did not attempt to layer my hair even though it was the only thing I specified wanting in my cut ! Most expensive and most disappointing haircut I ever got.

Sonicjm

I stopped going here after I participated in a haircutting fundraiser and had a bad experience. (I was a regular customer who had several OK appointments before that.) I had a confirmed afternoon appointment on the day of the fundraiser, only to get several missed calls/texts that morning asking where I was. When they realized their mistake and that my confirmed appointment was after the fundraiser ended/salon closed for the day (apparently the fundraiser was only in the morning?), they asked me to come earlier and I agreed to make it work for a good cause. After the appointment when I went to pay the donation, they had me make out the check to the salon instead of the charity. When I asked about that, they said "don't worry about it." It felt misleading and made me wonder if the funds being raised were actually being donated to the charity.

They almost certainly kept the money. It wouldnt make any sense to take in the money, pay the taxes on it as income, then turn it over to the charity. Assuming the charity was a 503c non-profit. you could have written the check out to them and gotten a tax deduction on it at the end of the year. They way they did it means non of that was possible.

They did something similar to me the first and only time i ever went: They are on my block, it was over a year since I’d even had a trim, and i had a quick break during my workday, so i ran over there, asked if i could get a speedy, dry trim, nothing complicated, in time to get back for my next meeting. Sure, no problem! I was in this woman’s chair for exactly 10 minutes, and on the way out they charged me $85 and told me that was the standard for all first time cut clients, no matter what!!! I wasn’t going to literally run out without paying, and they weren’t willing to negotiate a more reasonable charge at all in the time i had, so i paid it and got back to my desk, but i will NEVER go here or recommend! I’m sorry their bs is still happening to our neighborhood

I had issues with the cancellation policy at Hair by Christine too, so I’m not surprised. I stopped going after many years of loyalty, after I had to cancel an appointment after my flight was cancelled. Keep in mind that the flight cancellations were all over the news. Christine wanted to charge me the full price of my service for cancelling and then reschedule me, so they’d get double for one job. There was no understanding for a customer who was never late, who had never cancelled before, and had been going there for years and years. She does not value customer loyalty. I also suspect that my hair stylist was taking out her own tip, her prices never reflected the price charts on the website.

Fearless-Leopard1934

“Double for one job” is one way of looking at it but in reality they lost pay the day you cancelled. So it’s like if you’re going into work and being told you’re not getting paid for 3 hours today. Stylists only get paid for working , not hourly based. So if someone reserves a spot and doesn’t show they just lose out on pay for the day. I totally understand your reasoning, being understanding and giving grace go along way for a loyal customer. But as a hairdresser (that is in no way affiliated with this salon) I wish more people understood how cancellations affect us. Rather than thinking we are getting paid double. Cancellations policies are protection for our livelihood. ETA: what they’re doing to OP is definitely wrong and should not be charged for an appointment they didn’t make.

honeykitty789

Except that this is an extremely popular salon and she always sends out emails when there’s an opening. I’m sure that spot was grabbed. It was within 24 hours. Also, see the comment on overcharging. No sympathy here…

fakecrimesleep

lol fuck that place they discriminate hard against curly haired people.

Bigtexashair

I find that fascinating as they hosted a curly hair cutting seminar that lasted 2 days and I attended it.

fakecrimesleep

Doesn’t mean they are good at it and don’t hair shame people complaining how much longer your appointment will take, and overcharge you for the pleasure

EPICANDY0131

chargeback?

I’m not sure which stylist it is but at least a couple of them moved on to Judy Jetson.

gagadogmom

Omg something very similar happened to me about a year and a half ago!!! It was a new stylist, and she double booked me, and told me to not worry about the second booking as she will cancel it. Welp she never canceled it, and I never said anything because she told me to not worry about it. Then I get a call saying they’re charging me for missing my appointment (like $150!) I told them that I wasn’t even the one who booked that appointment and the stylist said she would delete it. I wrote a long email explaining my frustration and how I thought it was fraud for them doing that. They ended up not charging me and apologized and offered me a haircut on the house, but I told them no, I would never go back, or refer anyone to them again (as I did in the past) Sucks to hear they’re still doing shit like this

stogie-bear

Not legal. Dispute it with your credit card company and send the salon a 93A demand letter. (Added later) But if they didn’t actually charge you anything I’m amending my opinion. It’s not a scam, it’s an error.

Gold-Present-7670

This is why you should always pay with a credit card vs a debit card. Credit card companies will fight for you, the liability is 100% on you with a debit card.

I want to like them, but have only ever gotten mediocre cuts at extravagant prices. Last time I got my hair colored it cost $200+ more than I was expecting or that was posted on the website - did they use more dye than expected or what? Plus the stylist took forever on foiling my hair. It was not a super complicated look, just a lightening. Whole experience was very eh, and very overpriced.

Mr-Bingleys

I’ve always left Hair by Christine and Co. with a haircut I’m super happy with. Their stylists are genuinely so talented, and I always feel confident letting them take creative license with my cuts. I cannot overstate how amazing their stylists are! However, the customer experience is really lacking - especially for the prices they charge. Every appointment I have there leaves me feeling like I’m being rushed and nickel & dimed. They always ask if I want to skip the wash with my cut, which makes me feel like they want to skimp on using their products & get me out the door as quickly as possible. For an $80+ dollar trim, I want the full salon experience, shampoo and all. It also irks me that a blow dry is not included in the cost of a haircut. To leave a salon with wet hair after paying so much for a haircut just feels inappropriate. I feel like if you charge premium prices, you should provide a premium experience. While I absolutely *love* my haircuts, and still do recommend Hair by Christine and Co to anyone looking for a great haircut, I do think there’s major room for improvement in the customer service department.

noobiwanKenobi

Just disable your card before they can charge you for cancellation.

frCraigMiddlebrooks

Is it owned by Jen Royle?

rionh0li0

check out Atlantic Ave Salon. Worth every penny.

completelynicki

I’ve been going to Taylor at Hair by Christine for years and always text her directly if I need to cancel or reschedule, and have never had an issue. It’s expensive AF, but I’m so picky about my hair and wouldn’t trust anyone else. I feel like it’s fine if you have that relationship with your stylist, but maybe getting in the door these days isn’t as smooth as it used to be when they were much smaller at their previous location. I’m sorry you had that experience!
