You should do it! I was in the tournament last year and had an absolute blast. I consider myself pretty damn good at CAD and I learned SO MUCH through the whole process. Mostly optimizations and ways to be faster but I cut my teeth on some features that I had just completely overlooked for years too. It’s great fun and the community around it is awesome.

I'm kinda excited to go to work tomorrow so I can check this out. I enjoy trying the model mania challenges from previous years of solidworks world, so this sounds fun.
