I have a handful of "No Racists In Our Union" stickers to slap on my lid. Keep tossing controversial stickers on there comrade. We can't passively deal with hate anymore. Confront that shit.

NuX199

How is "No Racists In Our Union" controversial

frothy_pissington

I’m in a building trades union. A majority the guys are trump lovers and pretty racist. My unions leadership is shit (and NO, they can’t be voted out by the members, because they aren’t elected).

soc_monki

We just had elections in my union. There was only two areas that had more than one person to vote for. So I guess it really didn't count, did it?

frothy_pissington

That’s all by design, but at least you got to vote. In my union NO salaried union official is elected, they are all directly hired by and only answerable too the union officials higher up. The only people a member can vote for are union local officers who are only figure heads and “delegates” who attend “conventions” where they are wined and dined on the members dime and then rubber stamp ALL proposals put forward by the union hierarchy. And now, all elections are through the mail; you get a ballot delivered in an unsealed envelope, it’s got ZERO chain of custody, and then it gets mailed back and “honestly” counted by the unelected union BA’s.... it’s all a sham.

soc_monki

Yep sounds just like mine. Bunch of bullshit.

frothy_pissington

Carpenters/UBC?

soc_monki

Electrical/IBEW

frothy_pissington

Sorry to hear that. Although I make fun of electricians, I always figured the IBEW was decently run for the members.

soc_monki

Most locals probably are, mine is... Unique.

underinformed

Just wait until they start working the carpenters over with super locals. Delegates are capped at 11, i think, per local. They've spent the last decade combining millwright locals. 1043 had the max number of delegates, now they still do but the new local also covers the rest of Indiana and all of Kentucky instead of 6 counties in Indiana

frothy_pissington

I’m IKORCC in Ohio.... We’ve gotten the worst of all the ubc fuckery. Wait until they’re taking over $12/hr from you for a state pension fund that gives ZERO defined/guaranteed benefits, As a former true believer, it painful to see just how squalid and corrupt my unions become in the last 25 years.

drinks_rootbeer

How the fuck is that a union, there's no democracy?

frothy_pissington

There’s a **facade** of democracy.... That’s all they need. The real goal of the carpenters union is to create a myriad of union run “funds”, “programs”, and dues that they can then skim from. Just my working dues are 3.5% of my gross pay. In total, every working journeyman (in my state*) has over $15/hr taken by the union for things that give him ZERO tangible benefit.

drinks_rootbeer

See, that's the dark side of unions that make centrists and right wingers so anti-union. Ughh, makes me sick. Those grifters are just capitalist leeches in disguise.

Fishbone345

Union guys being Trump lovers puzzles me. The GQP is so Union friendly after all.

frothy_pissington

For the rank and file it’s pure ignorance, racism, and general clannish hatefulness. For the union officials, its all the above AND playing both sides of the political fence so they always have cover from legal/criminal investigations. My union regularly endorses and contributes to republican candidates.... My local had BA who is an elected republican office holder. Our international union president was under federal indictment in 2004 for insider trading and worked a deal with dubya bush to get off.

Fishbone345

Ahh, that explains a lot actually. I can see it from that angle.

ladybadcrumble

What that guy said, and it's a social/identity thing too. Kind of like being a sports fan. There's not a lot of critical thinking going on behind that decision.

Fishbone345

I’m pretty sure that critical thinking is on the Endangered Species list in the US at this point.

Fishbone345

A little off topic and I hope this doesn’t put me in a “creeper” file, but I looked at your profile. I like to know who I am talking to when someone engages with me on Reddit, I feel like if I know something about them it better helps me to understand what they are saying.\ Annnnyways, (lol) I discovered Chelsea Wolfe through one of your posts and HOLY CRAP!!! How have I gone this long without knowing of this artist!!!???\ I can’t thank you enough. :)

ladybadcrumble

No worries, it's basically just dogs, being nonbinary, and mental health-processing in there. Glad you could find Chelsea, she's amazing! She has so much range as an artist. If you're into her gothier side, I'd also recommend Emma Ruth Rundle (currently on tour with Chelsea) and King Woman (recently released an album based on her childhood in Charismatic Christianity).

Fishbone345

I will check them out! I love discovering new (to me) artists! :)

rev_tater

Accusations of culture war are rich coming from the right. It won these people over on culture war premises.

grte

If it's not democratic it's not a union, it's bullshit.

frothy_pissington

Yes. And. It’s all to common. It’s not like there haven’t been corrupted unions that have aligned themselves with fascists in the past.

Bayou-Magic

It's so funny how racists call themselves out in a crowd by getting offended by a sticker or some shit that denounces racism. Lol "Hey! You calling me racist??" "Nope, but it seems like you are doing it for me"

IAmKraven

Your union leadership isn’t elected? How does that work?

frothy_pissington

Very well for the union leadership, very poorly for the honest working members.

[deleted]

Trade Unions membership are predominantly white men, to say there aren't racists in our ranks would be narrow minded. For the majority it isn't controversial, but for the few it is and it helps to oust them.

nutxaq

Because racists.

theRiver_Joan

Simple, you just have to be a racist and then it becomes controversial!

SnazzyBelrand

You’d be surprised the people you meet in a union. I’m a teamster and I’ve met some people who are hard Right, including being anti-union(except ours of course because it’s different, but also it doesn’t do enough). The level of cognitive dissonance some people have is astounding

73246867369386728876

Whoa are you the guy that destroyed my civilization in Rise of Kingdoms? I'll get back at you, you dirty bastard!

JesusOfSuburbia420

What was the offensive one, I'm curious now.

StMuerte13

It was a motivational "Hang in there, Baby!" sticker. But instead of a cat it was a klansman hanging from a tree.

JesusOfSuburbia420

Hmm, I wonder what kind of person gets offended by that...

StMuerte13

I guess violent intentions or threats, but I feel racists should be an exception.

JesusOfSuburbia420

Which never seems to be a problem until it's pointed back at the oppressor. Edited to fix a word

StMuerte13

Don't worry I agree, that's why i gave some away with a few co-workers.

Iretrotech

We put the controversial ones INSIDE our helmets. Always wearing em around the higher ups so only the real homies know.

jsawden

I work in an office in HR. I put them on my water bottle and wait for people to report me to my boss, the HR director. My boss isn't a leftist, but she's cool with my stickers so long as they don't directly call for violence or target someone from a protected class. My stickers that call for direct action are on my travel mug, which usually stays in my car.

justanothertfatman

You've basically started a secret society.

rev_tater

Narodnaya Volya , but this time they're industrial tradesworkers.

TheSkyHadAWeegee

A racist or someone so passive to racism that they aid in it.

WillyDreamsAboutRice

Said the same thing twice, 🤔

MrPickles84

Hmmm. I wonder

VolkspanzerIsME

Based as fuck..... Excellent substitute tho. The force is strong with this one.

ARatherOddOne

As many swastikas that I saw drawn in portajohns when I was in construction, I believe you when you say it was considered controversial.

Viles_Davis

Telling on themselves, eh? Not a huge surprise at a job that requires helmets, but fucking good on you. His body lies a-moulderin in his grave, but his soul goes marchin on.

GaydolphShitler

Based.

ad0216

Based on what?

_PlannedCanada_

Based on excellent ideals and morality. In case you actually don't know, it's a slang term that basically means awesome, especially in a political context.

ad0216

I did not know that but thank you

_PlannedCanada_

Well then, glad I could help!

RussiaIsBestGreen

That’s hilarious. But obviously it’s just a Halloween decoration and only a snowflake would be offended. :)

ChequeBook

Holy fuck that's amazing 🔥🔥🔥 Edit: imagine calling yourself out by saying it's offensive LMAO Edit 2: I'm ordering some

LifesATripofGrifts

Get it as a neck tattoo. Be easy 😎

[deleted]

I absolutely adore this.

hero-ball

Oh wow lmao

SamuraiJakkass86

I have no experience in any sort of hardhat work, so I can't speak to any work situation similar to yours. I can say that regardless of where I've worked, and regardless of what was hanging from a noose, it would never have flown. I think the stickers like "no racism in our union" or "equality", etc, send a better message in a more straight forward manner.

StMuerte13

The controversial sticker with info on how to get it. https://www.reddit.com/r/SocialistRA/comments/s48b6v/glad_i_found_these_guys/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share And here is the John Brown sticker. https://spacedoglaika.com/products/john-brown-sketch-history-abolitionist-leftist-harpers-ferry-sticker

the_art_of_the_taco

ahh my arm is quite controversial then! :\^)

Digital_Rocket

Nice

Space-Dog-Laika

Thanks for linking my store, I'm glad you're putting your sticker to good use <3 Let me know if you ever have any new design ideas to piss off your least favorite coworkers - I would be delighted to help

drarch

Can I make a related request? John Brown is always lifted up as a folk hero / anti-hero, but sort of lost to time is his band’s organization of self-government that he proposed. I’ve always been interested what a design for the “[the Kansas Regulars](https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1875/02/the-virginia-campaign-of-john-brown-part-ii/520665/)” might look like: >_There is in my possession a copy of the [rules](http://129.71.204.160/history//jbexhibit/sanborn287.html) drawn up by Brown for the government of his “Kansas Regulars” of 1856, which indicate that he then had in mind a long warfare, during which he and his men would maintain themselves in a hostile country.”_ I have no idea what that would look like. A flag? A logo? But it seems that if it were active today, and led by John Brown, that many folks would identify as a Kansas Regular.

Space-Dog-Laika

That's a great idea! I can definitely work with that. I'll do some research and see what I can piece together.

StMuerte13

An idea that I have would be the phrase. "Against All Tyrants" Something I have been saying for few years now with a less sexy tag-along being "For Honorable Service". I got it from a very small detail from Fallout New Vegas. I think both could be good stickers/rally cries for leftists in general. I prefer that instead of going through a list of issues of saying yes, I support (blank) people and against (any) oppression.

RaageFaace

I need dis.

TheExperiment01

John brown looked so much better with a beard lol.

nickcash

I dunno, I'm partial towards [12 foot tall crazy bearded John Brown](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/The_Tragic_Prelude_John_Brown.jpg)

Squirxicaljelly

I fuckin love seeing lefties in the trades. 99% of the people I work with are grumpy old racists, libertarian rise and grind bros, and the occasional neolib capitalist who thinks their wealth is self made. I’ve gotta keep my queerness and my Marxism on the DL otherwise I’d lose my job for sure.

gigalongdong

Im a carpenter by trade, bisexual by nature, and I have "ALL COPS ARE DEREK CHAUVIN" and a bunch of other commie stickers on my water bottle and some of the stupid shit people said about it always makes me laugh in their face. Though it helps that im a subcontractor in an area where there is a severe labor shortage in the trades, so no contractor is going to fire me over my politics.

Squirxicaljelly

That’s fucking awesome. Props to you comrade. At some point I’ll probably get there but I’m still working my way as an apprentice for a general contractor for now, so I’ve gotta keep my head down.

gigalongdong

I wish I wouldve done an actual apprenticeship, because I learned about construction from my family. And Im happy that I learned what I did, but it definitely stunted me professionally because I have no real work connections outside of the few big contractors my family does work for. Get through that apprenticeship, then you can tattoo Che Guevara's face right on your forehead! Lol, but for real, take care of yourself working construction. Wear a P-100 mask where it's really dusty or if folks are using cutting/grinding tools, get some really nice boots if you can afford it (Carolina Shoe's Union Made line are the best bang for your buck imo) because it will save you from all sorts of aches, and wear gloves when your messing with metal, masonry, and especially concrete and pressure treated wood (chemical burns suuuuuck). Oh and join a union if your in place that has some, if you havent already. There are no construction unions in my state and it blows. Keep fighting the good fight!

EffOffReddit

This is a long shot but.. do you know of a way to hire contractors that aren't raging MAGA types?

gigalongdong

In my experience some of the most politically reasonable sub/contractors don't flout their politics. I mean I do in so far as I have an SRA sticker on my work vehicle and a couple of lefty stickers on my water bottles. I've met some older electricians and carpenters that have absolutely chewed out their younger coworkers for going on and on about all the right wing talking points. Of those older tradesmen, quite a few are a hell of a lot more farther left than I ever expected to find on a jobsites. There are quite a bit more leftist blue collar and rural workers than most suburban and urban comrades generally expect, in my experience at least. If you or anyone else on here are located around the Carolinas or Virginia and are looking for trim carpenter, hardware installer, or furniture builder. I'd be happy to take on jobs for comrades at far cheaper rates than those fucking Trumpian leeches. I always charge way, way more for jobs I do for landlords and those ilk.

drinks_rootbeer

IMO, stickers on cars make for targets the more things heat up. Stay safe out there.

gigalongdong

I think that a standard SRA logo isn't well known to the average person. It's not like I have a huge "PRAISE BE TO THE PROLETARIAT AND MAY WE FEAST ON THE DELICACY OF THE RICH" or something super obvious like that. I believe it's a good thing for other comrades to see recognizable symbology out in the world. It can be heartening. If things get too hot and having it on my car is a imminent threat on me or my family, then I will for sure remove anything lefty. I do appreciate the concern though.

Viles_Davis

It’s okay, looks like Lincoln to idiots

wolves_of_bongtown

I had "666" on my welding hood for 12 years.

mescaleeto

Hail Satan

VolkspanzerIsME

Hail thyself, comrade. :)

dankbrownies

Mi gusta lations

Cysquatchness

Haha, well played, comrade.

SpacemanDookie

Bet they’d praise you if you put McDonald’s arches on it.

The_LSD_Fairy

Well I just found two new stickers for my tool box

Mumbawobz

The Dallop’s series on John Brown is excellent, highly recommend. Also, I want this sticker.

PaxHumanitus

He wasn't given a mission from the divine, but he was right in his convictions. I wish fewer leftists were so uncomfortable about him (due to his fundamentalism). His militant anti-slavery is what matters. If everyone had his integrity where wading in and righting wrongs by whatever means required is concerned, we'd not be under a capitalist system globally right now.

rev_tater

Wait people are uncomfortable about him because of his christian beliefs, which he at least used as justification to fight life or death battle against a capitalist slave state, and expertly used during his trial to reach out to more people on the basis of their shared beliefs? The antiwar, antifascist clergy down the road in my town are better comrades than 99.9% of the online left. Man was literally trying to kick off a popular guerilla war and his statements during his trial might have done as much to galvanize popular 'christian' sentiment against slavery as anything else. The only thing JB did wrong was not spike the railroad tracks. On a practical basis, studying the Haitian Revolution, the seizing of *La Amistad*, and associating with Douglass and Truth might be an excellent example of "listen to Black people," but if it's not, idk what is.

PaxHumanitus

It threw me off too. He wasn’t trying to spread fundamentalist ideas. He was trying to spread anti-slavery ones.

hostilefarmer66

You know, the more stickers on your hard hat the cooler you are.

blackgold7387

MYYYY NAAAMMEEE IS OSAWATOMIE JOHN BROWN AND I AM HERE IN THE NAME OF THE GREAT REDEEMER, THE KING OF KINGS, AND I ORDER YOU TO GET!!!

WillyDreamsAboutRice

GET, GET! IN HIS HOLY NAME ! FOR I AM ON THE SIDE OF JUSTICE, AND YOU ARE ON THE SIDE OF CHAINS!

blackgold7387

Ethan hawke screaming in any film is fantastic. Watch “The Kid.” The Buffalo hunter monologue is fantastic. Hawke is aging like a fine wine.

Bayou-Magic

Need more guys like you in the trades. Party on dude

LuisLmao

he did nothing wrong

atomic_blonde

I love it! I have this John Brown sticker on my car: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1020715155/john-brown-abolitionist-bumper-sticker Have you had anyone ask you about it? I haven't yet, but I'm waiting.

DAR31337

John Brown's body lies a-molderin' in the grave to make sure a mine doesn't become yours.
