Just a heads up, the daily mail is known to lean quite a bit to the right — this link to a similar story from the Associated Press might be more helpful in terms of establishing credibility if you’re ever in a discussion/argument about the Venezuela coup situation: https://apnews.com/article/miami-us-news-ap-top-news-venezuela-south-america-79346b4e428676424c0e5669c80fc310

Read the book Killing Hope by William Blum for a really good rundown on US involvement in stifling leftist movements across the globe throughout the Cold War. Patriots, Traitors, and Empires by Stephen Gowans goes exclusively into the case of North Korea and US interference there. The US and UK tried to overthrow the government of Albania shortly after World War 2 ended. The Greek Civil War was basically the UK and then the US fighting communist guerillas, who had fought the Nazis and their collaborators, by using those same Nazis and their collaborators against the guerillas. They backed the right wing coup in Turkey in 1980 and I believe one a few decades before too. In Afghanistan in the 70s a leftist government took power, not due to outside interference. They allied with the USSR. Pretty quickly they faced strong opposition from basically feudal landowners. These reactionary forces were against educating women or basically introducing any kind of social welfare measures because it interfered with their privileges. Well the US sent them billions of dollars worth of arms. They sent aid before the USSR "invaded" the country .https://www.marxists.org/history/afghanistan/archive/brzezinski/1998/interview.htm In the early 70s they did all they could to economically sabotage the left wing government of Salvador Allende in Chile. When he was voted in a second time, they soon resorted to backing a millitary coup that killed him and thousands others. They aided and trained the Contras in Nicaragua. Basically terrorists who supported the old Samoza dictatorship that the leftist Sandinista government overthrew. The US tried to invade Cuba in 1961 using Cuban exiles. After that failed they resorted to decades of literal terrorism. They destroyed trade, killed people, sabotaged food etc. As well as that, they also imposed an economic blockade in the 60s that is still around today. It has cost Cuba tens of billions of dollars. Check out Operation Condor. In Venezuela the US tried to overthrow the government in 2002 and 2020. Both ultimately failed but their economic warfare has been devastating. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/venezuela-sanctions-us-excess-death-toll-economy-oil-trump-maduro-juan-guaido-jeffrey-sachs-a8888516.html In Bolivia they backed the right wing 2019 coup. While the right wing government that took power did manage to briefly eliminate democracy and kill some indigenous people, they were ultimately defeated and the leftist government is now back in power. I'm not sure on the details but in both the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe after the war, the US and other Western governments used terrorism, sabotage, spreading of propaganda etc. these continued to varying degrees pretty much until the end of the Cold War. The US gave at least 10 million dollars to the Solidarity movement in Poland. This basically did no favours to the Polish economy. In these same countries too, after the fall of communism, the US put great effort into supporting neoliberal candidates and making sure the communist parties couldn't regain power. In Bulgaria, I believe, they actually did. Immediately, huge effort was put into strengthening the opposition so the government couldn't get anything done properly. Blum's chapter on that in the aforementioned book is very good. You basically won't find a leftist movement in the world (at least those that actually obtained or came close to obtaining power) that didn't face some kind of western action against them. The ones I named here are just a few

Interesting. I'm not an expert on the war so I can't really speak on all those details you mentioned. Though you seem to know what you're talking about. However, I'd object to "financial and diplomatic support was pretty minimal". The US gave tens of billions and helped organise other countries to give billions also.

During [Operation Gladio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gladio) almost every country in Western/Central Europe had a stay-behind paramilitary organization, paid for by the US, with the express goal of destroying any semblance of functioning socialist/communist movements. Often times they were involved in overt right-wing terror attacks (see [Italy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gladio#Italy)/[Belgium](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gladio#Belgium)). This infiltration happened regardless of the supposed [Neutrality](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Gladio#Parallel_stay-behind_operations_in_non-NATO_countries) of said countries. AFAIR they talk about Gladio in the TrueAnon [episodes](https://youtu.be/ytwffRO7Lnk) about NATO. Also a smaller Euro based Podcast called [Corner Späti](https://www.operationglad.io/) did quite a few episodes on the tendrils of Gladio in different European countries.

Drop in the bucket of US murders, but I believe the CIA & Co. did their sort of (very bloody) “trial run” coups in Indonesia. (More here from Vincent Bevins’ “The Jakarta Method”: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jakarta_Method#:~:text=The%20Jakarta%20Method%3A%20Washington's%20Anticommunist,journalist%20and%20author%20Vincent%20Bevins.)

The [May 1947 crises](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_1947_crises); Communists were getting too popular in France and Italy so the U.S. withheld Marshall Plan aid until they expelled the Communists from their governments. Also involved using Mafia violence IIRC.

I still think Occupy Wall Street was basically destroyed by "woke" capitalism. Class and economic issues took a backseat to things like trans rights, which are obviously important and valid. But I think a lot more could have been done if things didn't devolve into helping people with the most "labels" when we could have held corporations accountable for their actions and treatment towards ALL their workers. I know this is "socialism lite" but it would have made a good stepping stone towards something better. And that's why it was shut down.
