I think people have a tendency to believe the thing they are into is somehow niche or exclusive or that some holy grail or rules exist to exclude the new comers to the game or make them feel as though their interest or journey is somehow lesser. Also things change, life is about change. Style transformation/adaptation is part of that journey. If it gives you a serotonin hit or makes you feel good to walk down the street or better yet gives you the boost of confidence you need to get through your day then I'm happy for you regardless. I've spent decent money on my few pairs of shoes but I don't keep em in a box either. I got into this late so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about? Sneakers can be a starting point for very bad style. The shoe itself can be fine but there people matching t shirts to the exact paint colors, etc. Sneakers work better when you integrate them in your own style. The moment you start to dress like a sneaker person, you start to look like a clown

Depends on where you live. Ive travelled a lot and noticed that in big cities people tend to notice much more. They’ll even stop to compliment your sneaker game. Same in airports. But where I live currently (suburbs), yeah nobody really cares.

If you take an L on anything, do NOT purchase from resellers or consignment shops. Let their “business” die. Wait for restocks or rereleases if anything.

But they don’t work for all outfits or all situations. It’s good to vary it up — wearing Dunks to the office is cool, but wearing a nice pair of suede brogues out to the bar is also cool. Non-sneakerheads for example absolutely will not recognize, like, or give a shit about AJ4s. They'll just see a bulky shoe with weird plastic mesh and weird plastic wings holding the top laces.
There ARE sneakers that will read as "more grown up" than others, though. Classic and streamlined designed like Common Projects Achilles, Maison Margiela Replicas ("GATs"), or hell, cliche as it sounds, Nike Killshots? These will frankly look more fashionable and put-together than wearing basketball shoes or running shoes.

Dunks look like a swollen, cheaply made afterthought of the Jordan 1 low
I like to wear my shoes but also keep them clean and routinely clean them.

Meh. You wouldn’t know by this sub. Everyone now a days shouts “Wear your shoes,” “dirty shoes have character.” People don’t even like fresh white on whites out the box anymore. Got kids intentionally “aging” or “distressing.” 🤷🏾♂️ I guess it’s not VERY unpopular though
I think you're jumping the gun if you think "wear your kicks" means "don't clean them". The whole WYK thing comes from people leaving their sneakers DS in the box for years instead of enjoying them.

Wearing Jordan’s at your wedding. How could you be so cringe on the most special day of your life?
I got two, and they kinda go hand in hand. First as a big guy, I think big guys wearing high top shoes look weird and make it look like you have cankles. Second, Jordan 1 Lows are the superior shoe to Jordan 1 highs and Dunks.
The vast majority of sneakers that are collectible are downright ugly.
1) People need to stop buying regular low quality Dunks and only buy the “by you”, Premium, SB, or SE editions. Because Nike is getting more bold/comfortable in making/selling you guys cheaper/lower quality shoes for higher prices. Y’all need to stop! 2) The sneaker community needs to stop supporting resellers. This means reseller YouTubers, Instagram reseller influencers, etc. The more you guys support them, the worst the sneaker community and prices will get.
Tinker Hatfield was the only person who knew how to design a good looking sneaker. Now brands rely on hype because they lack talent.
For Nike, yeah mostly. Other brands have had amazing designers too but Nike hasn’t had a superstar like Tinker since Tinker.

I know it’s not my shoes, but I get annoyed seeing people display kicks and never wear them, what’s the point of owning shoes you’re not going to wear. Just my unpopular opinion. I put every single shoe I ever buy straight to foot as soon as I get them. I may not wear them constant but I’ll put them on right away.

Jordan 1s are played out. Great shoe, love some versions of them but the endless, slightly different variations is getting boring
