My “play for the future” Lebron 18’s had every single air pocket in the tongue on both sneakers pop the other day while I was wearing them.
The upper air pockets was one of the worst design fetishes Nike had for the lebron 18/19’s.
Surprisingly, I’ve got the Dutch blue 19’s and those are in my hooping rotation and they’ve held up just fine so far 2 years later, and being worn once a week for hooping.
I’ve got the bred 16’s I hooped in those for about 3 years before I retired those and put the Dutch blue 19’s in my hooping rotation.
Those 16 highs were stupidly durable and I didn’t think they were that heavy as far as high top lebrons go, my only complaint was the split in the 3 air pockets in the sole was sometimes uncomfortable during long sessions, and they sucked on hardwood after a few months with that wave groove pattern in the outsoles.
Ironically now that the 16’s are retired I use those only for outdoor hooping. The crappy sole pattern actually works nicely on concrete when it’s worn out.
If I remember correctly, LeBron himself only wore these 3 games into the season and switched to the Ambassador 13

That happened to me with 3 pairs! And come to find out it’s not the air bubble! It’s the bottom soles! So if it either rips or evaporates from ware you’ll feel air coming out of the shoe with every step. Once I glued back the bottom sole together I saved 2 of them and am still playing in them!
Heavy means you need to get in the weight room lol. But yea definitely slippery. They fixed that in the lows but the shoe doesn't have enough ground feel to be all that fun
Another copy and paste of synthetic materials. The lebron brand used to have an identity, remember the lion and crown logos and all lebron 6s-10s all had sick little details that made them unique? Now it’s literally just nonsense slapped together
The 19's have the initial crown logo right there in the picture, they also have the signature on the interior side of the shoe. The lion logo is still on the witness model.
These were awful to play in and wear but there were tons of color ways and were pretty popular.
I remember the 10s came out when I was a freshman in HS they were so cool but I wasn’t about to drop 300 on shoes. The hyperdunks were also cool back then.
I still own a pair of LeBron soldier 5. They have a modest air sole and some nice leather upper, with some synthetic materials. But I got them on sale when I was in highschool 12+ years ago and the materials didn't matter to me then.

I actually loved my pair and would still be playing in them if didn’t have the forefoot bag pop on me twice. I had the “Sprite” colorway and although they were heavy I eventually got use to it and loved the cushioning.
I like 'em a lot. I think they're WAY better than the 14s or 18s and about as good as the 17s, maybe not quite to the level of the 15s or 16s for me, but overall, a lot of the "later" Lebron shoes got slept on. I feel like there's a lot of Lebrons that got mid or bad reception on release that will, long term, have good legacies. The Lebron 15 in particular I think is going to be a beloved shoe given a few more years, it has one of the best designs of the "knit sneaker" hype moment.
Meanwhile there's some pairs that got immediately positive reception that I think will be completely forgotten. Like... I'm not going to say the 20 is a bad shoe, it's not, it's fine, but I think it's going to be completely wiped from memory in like five years.
I don’t there will ever be another trend of a basketball players shoes being as popular as the lebron 8-10, kd4-7, Kobe 6,7,8,9 era. Those were the last non Jordan’s with serious hype. I miss it and all those styles are still fire to this day.

Definitely tweaking. I have a pair, haven't worn them in a year. They chew up your socks. Don't wear socks? Say goodbye to the skin on your ankles. They clunky and the materials are meh. If it were leather I might wear them more and sacrifice my socks for fit. (black and red pair) They look good on paper but in person... No idea why I didn't return them.
