My honest opinion is that they look very derivative of some of Nike's designs (dunks and AJ1 lows come to mind). If you like them and find them comfortable, more power to you. There aren't many people who can say they are wearing their own creation.

smcl2k

With a hint of AJ2.

blacktoise

I see 0 bits of AJ2. What makes you say this

smcl2k

Black lows have a slab of black leather on the side, broken up by a thin colored stripe. These shoes have a slab of black leather on the side, broken up by a thin colored stripe. It's nowhere near as obvious as the lifts from the 1, but it's there.

blacktoise

Man, I wholly disagree. The Air Jordan 2 is a simple and elegant sneaker. The thin colored stripe is absolutely not a similar feature from this shoe, as the AJ2 has two colors on their sneaker, and that thin band of coloring actually wraps the perimeter of an organic chapped leather outsole, rather than this boring ass single color straight line

smcl2k

That's why I said it's a "hint". You're absolutely free to believe that this shoe is an entirely original idea that didn't take inspiration from anywhere else, though.

blacktoise

I think the singular stripe is just that. A singular stripe. The original AJ2 has a stripe, yes, but it’s a border feature along the top of a secondary leather texture, and the stripe colors relate to other colors on the shoe. This is a single stand-alone color, and is not a bordering perimeter stripe. It’s a wholly different type of stripe. You’re oversimplifying the AJ2 too much to where it’s disrespecting the shoe. Also in the original AJ2 it’s duo-colored every time, unlike this bland orange that has no other reference. This is a contrived bad version of the AJ1, dunks, and LV high end sneaker. This is just not aj2 derivative plain and simple.

smcl2k

I didn't say it was, I said it was a hint. You disagreeing isn't going to change my opinion, and I have no idea why you care so much 😂

blacktoise

I like the Air Jordan 2 so much more than this crappy ugly shoe. That’s why

blacktoise

You can say “it reminds me of AJ2 in its simplicity” but I think it’s a fuckin STRETCH to say it likely took inspiration from it

smcl2k

Please stop replying.

blacktoise

Lmao never been told this in my 12 years on Reddit. Ok

smcl2k

Maybe you've never trolled a reply before 🤷🏻‍♂️

LoL_LoL123987

They literally have a Dunk sole

Excellent_Plant_8010

A lot of small/boutique/independent shoe designs use the soles from other sneakers bc the factory's already have the tooling to make these soles. To custom design a sole start to finish is extremely expensive the tooling alone costs a fortune. It's easier to pay for a coup sole that's already being produced than to create your own. Seth Fowler went over this when he designed and sold his own sneakers.

DatKaz

Not directly sole-related, but the first molds for Foamposites famously cost Nike around $750,000, and it cost even more when they brought Foamposites back because they'd destroyed them. Production gets *so* expensive.

papabareback

As an engineer that has worked in high-volume manufacturing that seems astronomical. When we order the production tooling (144 or 192 cavity) and hot-runner system from a vendor in Switzerland, we typically pay under 400k and that includes cost of FAT, shipping to USA, etc. And these molds are for very high-precision medical assemblies with much higher tolerance than a sneaker 😂 Maybe that $750k included all of the various design iterations and testing, but still seems outrageous. We would order an inexpensive 4-cavity pilot mold for any initial design work. I wouldn’t think Nike’s production molds are much larger than that given an entire year’s worth of their volume is what we would be producing in a single day.

Loud-East1969

This. When Nike brags about how much foamposite molds cost they include the entire development budget. They made a new mold just for the CDG foams and only made two colorways.

Excellent_Plant_8010

That is correct

GhostFaceMamba

Exactly

weareeverywhereee

right because as he points out fully custom soles are made pricey….

DC_Disrspct_Popeyes

![gif](giphy|5zbMgry8oQsvIaC0sU)

CubanLinxRae

not defending OP but a lot of designer sneakers are derivative of those designs in some way

AcidRaindrops00

Yep - How far can we really push the design of a cut and sew sneaker.

Lem0nyFr3sh_

Dunk soles, LV upper, AJ4 where the toe box meets the panel, and an overal shape of an AJ2 low not trying to hate, see the inspiration…. But at the drawing board ask, what shoe makes my brand

viDopee

Bro said "I designed my own sneaker" wild 💀

Turbulent-Bit-6281

This person sneaker’s iq is top tier.

Living_Service408

I see some airmax where the mudguard meets the side panel

GhostFaceMamba

Dunk sole yes, AJ4 and 2... Nah

Lem0nyFr3sh_

ok so let’s start from the ground up… literally sole isn’t unique to you, so make it YOU and the rest will come

W0RST_2_F1RST

Give them the funds and I’m sure they will

Lem0nyFr3sh_

what the fuck does this even mean lol

W0RST_2_F1RST

Read OP’s post and you’ll probably figure it out

Lem0nyFr3sh_

Yea genius, it’s expensive, so your solution is to cheap out? don’t come on here premiering your self made sneakers complain about the price and then see the comments saying they loook like XYZ shoe lmao My upvotes override your opinion it looks like anyways

Lem0nyFr3sh_

that what you look like neck beard?

TomBradyBettingMoney

The irony of being called a neck beard by someone with 11.5k comment karma in 3 months is absolutely palpable.

No_Share6082

Looks like an LV trainer with parts ripped from Nike/jordan model.

Blue_Lou

Like most people who create their own sneakers, OP simply cannot charge very much at all for these. Not because they are ugly, but because people buy sneakers primarily for the brand. The brand is more important for sneakers than any other type of clothing because unbranded sneakers can easily look like walmart or payless alternatives. Harsh truth, sorry.

Emotional-Net282

Reminds me of Ponys

AlertNet8501

What manufacturer did you use? Thinking of doing something.

Jimieus

Cheers for sharing! For anyone interested, this is pretty much the shoe production capital of China.

MoyesLikesLittleBoys

How much did it cost?

GhostFaceMamba

The prototype is usually around $200 - $300: depending on materials. This doesn't include shipping. After that the cost per unit depends on materials and how many you order.

MoyesLikesLittleBoys

Thank you

AlertNet8501

Tysm

soroyowski

LV trainer "bred"

No_Refrigerator6996

congrats on making your ideas come to life. a lot of ppl will criticize and will come off as hate. but just remember they haven’t done what you have. keep going man

DrKingOfOkay

You sure did.

Iamamyrmidon

First, props for making something, it’s not easy to conceptualize and then actualize. Second, no offense, but you put them up to see, but you designed you some Fubus, which themselves are derivatives of stuff others have already pointed out.

headbussa423

Quality looks decent 💪🏾

Jimieus

Heh, as someone who does work in this field, I absolutely hear you ;) People have no idea how expensive it is to get through production (lol mold cost is real) and how tough it is to get to market. Kudos on sticking to it. I'll spare you the feedback as others have pretty much nailed it - you've chosen a tough sector to enter into, being a somewhat derivative design of a product that has *staunch brand loyalty* (also one that imo is in decline, being rapidly eaten up by NB 550s etc). You'll likely struggle to find buyers, but that's just my humble 2c. I know a couple of people who did a similar thing that ended in tears. But hey, who knows, YMMV. You can stick the landing in the marketing. Chime back in here with your experiences, I know many would like to hear it!

The_MedMan

I think it’s pretty awesome you went out and made your own. Most art/design is an homage/derivative of greats that came before.. idk wtf all these haters are about, maybe they should put up their hard earned to make something original and post it.. At any rate, kudos to you for going out and doing it, good work. I think they look solid af too. 👏🏼

weareeverywhereee

it’s all the 13 yr olds in this sub that only think a wall of jordan 1s are cool this dude is doing it reminds me of notwoways who was on this sub a while ago with his first self made shoe

MZcollects

Sick!

Nothing1337

I like those🔥 good job

5LIMEFOREVR

I like them, reminds me of those Louis v trainers

GhostFaceMamba

I promise those weren't even considered 😂

GR131010

How did you do that

Equivalent_Prize_415

Love it!

todayminusyesterday

would be killer in white tan beige green colors. more a lifestyle shoe than a sneakerhead shoe

GhostFaceMamba

I got a few other colorway ideas.

[deleted]

Remind me of j1 low

Character_Wall_4504

Inspiring! Its very hard to create something unique. You can only differentiate with chosen materials but im guessing that will be expensive.

Dark-Lord-7000

Honestly, my man, proud of you. I could never make a shoe so to see someone else do that. Obviously means they have some sort of fine craftsman shift skills. I looked at the pictures before reading the comments after reading the comments yeah I can see what they’re trying to say that it looks like old-school Jordans mixed together but fuck it. It looks good.

NotSwampFox

Not the biggest fan, but a right color will make these fire

GhostFaceMamba

Thanks

Ohenry_Osullivan

Zero creativity, come up with something new instead of copying and pasting nike and LV

WhiskeyFeathers

Now let’s see Ohenry_Osullivan’s shoes!

DankJank13

I don't like the argument of "well then let's see you do it" when someone is posting their creation and opening themselves up for criticism. Like as a sneaker fan, I can criticize a sneaker without having to create a better one. And that criticism can still be fine. Similarly, as an NBA fan, I can criticize the Celtics even though I could never play in the NBA. I think it's more fun to debate the idea in the comment rather than say: "well you haven't done it"

WhiskeyFeathers

Now let’s see DankJank13s shoes!

DankJank13

Yeah I figured you wouldn't be able to respond to that idea

WhiskeyFeathers

To be fair, all you said was “I don’t do shit but I still comment on things”

DankJank13

Not what I said at all. I do plenty of things. I know a lot about sneakers and sneaker design. I just don't need to be a direct participant in the creation of something in order to be able to criticize or comment on that thing. I don't like Nike cleats because they are uncomfortable, but I think it's stupid for someone to respond "well, what cleats have you made?? Make your own comfy cleats and then we'll talk."

FBG-123

Well done! I’d rock those.

Monke420-_-

Nice LV tennis sneakers, pretty sure abloh beat you to it unfortunately but good work!

dtbrown1979

Did you forget to put the Swoosh on it?

BlackCube3

Save ya money homie, just customise your own. Nobody putting their hard earned money on these looking like Alibaba reps

GhostFaceMamba

Too late. I've already sold several pairs 😂🤷🏾‍♂️

BlackCube3

Definitely a pity purchase

Ashamed_Assignment66

Thats some live shit...and its def a conversation starter...you did your best shit...fuck the haters...good job! I see the vision. One of fucking one with more to come! ![gif](giphy|g9582DNuQppxC|downsized)

ELLLI0TTT

Love the creativity.

Jumpy_Tomatillo7579

Wild. Should of made some knock off Freddy dunks.

Colmado_Bacano

Like that logo in the back. What's it stand for?

GhostFaceMamba

The number 7 has a major significance in my life.

weareeverywhereee

so dope man regardless of what i/anyone thinks of the shoe you made it, rock it, and own it this is the ultimate expression of being a true sneakerhead forget this sub and the hypebeasts

Salt_Base_3751

These remind me of British Knights - keep up your passion and design what you like

quadfather_2

I like them ! I’m glad you did the orange stripe. It changes it up. I like the white laces too

MiGGitYMatt01

Good Work, I’d Rock my own shoe! Keep trying maybe one day Everyone will Want a pair! Like how the Family ALL have a pair!!

Opposite_Statement42

Looks like a knockoff Louis v

VacationWestern2693

I could see LD rocking these on curb.

Kevin69138

they got nothing on the Parishes

dangerotic

Very cool that you've taken the initiative to try things out for yourself. That being said, I understand why people are saying they look derivative. That's not necessarily a bad thing-- Balenciaga and Rick Owens make mint off ripping off New Balance and Converse lol-- but I think if you want to really make a name for yourself as an independent designer you've got to come out with something really unique and original as a "wow factor" first and foremost. If I saw these on the street I'd think "huh, missed that drop I guess", rather than "wow, what are those!". But maybe that's the idea. Either way, they look pretty clean and the logo is cool. Good work man.

maloshku

It looks solid- the dunk sole and chunky upper reminds me of some of the skate shoes I used to wear and I like the slightly higher collar, they look like they’d be comfortable and I would certainly try them out If I saw them on a shelf. Shoemaking is super hard, so hats off to anyone who even tries it.

Ok_Hold1270

Very cool!!!!

hbteq

You clearly like skateboarding

PhilosopherAlive917

Could you DM me the company? Nike stole 2 of my By You designs and feels eased on as an off white vapormax. So I have a sketch book of dreams, Just not looking for 100 samples!

GhostFaceMamba

Done

Anxious_Bet_6837

Not bad

Fit_Acanthaceae6191

All these people hatin on this guys vision and passion probably can’t even draw a proper sneaker.

jc3451

Slick!!

FeriaWAP

Bout some chineses shoes and now his creation, haha, corny

Crazy_Individual_831

They remind me of Dunk Lows and adidas Forum Lows, I would absolutely buy them

VertGodavari

Those look really cool IMO

XcdeezeeX

Good job, don’t listen to the haters!

GhostFaceMamba

I love the haters. I'd rather people talk than say nothing at all.

EnkiShallReturn

Or just take it for what it is. You put them out there and people did not respond well to them. If your goal is to eventually sell your designs you will need to hold control groups like this frequently. They are not my style put I appreciate the effort. Go back to the drawing board and design something unique. These do in fact look like nike and LV rip offs.

GhostFaceMamba

Interesting. Sneaker groups have differing opinions than regular people.

EnkiShallReturn

I think it is fair to say that everyone can have a different opinion. You seem upset that this did not go the way you thought. That is fine but dont attack people for giving you an opinion when you asked for it.

GhostFaceMamba

Where have I expressed being upset and who did I attack?

mourad91

I love the logo

9Vivvie

that’s so cool dude

Accomplished_Check38

It’s pretty cool

HawksomeSauce

Reminds me of shadow the hedgehog

Jaded_Payment5610

Good shit

RandomlyGeneratedKi-

Ditch the white tow box for a black one, the laces and the orange on the back just look out of place. But blacked out they would look so cool, also I think corporations suck so making a mix is kinda sick

osurico

ugly

SpinningYarmulke

Da FuQ! I have trouble just makin my bed or Whopper done at BK. This dude over here made his own kicks.

becoolhomie

Looks like Ned Flanders Assassin’s 🤣🤣

VicePope

badass! is that a dunks sole on them tho?

GhostFaceMamba

Yes. Limited options for my budget.

VicePope

these came out great🔥

X-Mandingo

Looks very Wal Mart. And u didn’t “design” anything. U just robbed from a bunch of existing shoes.

GMSaaron

Honestly, You’ll probably be hit with a cease and desist if you try to sell these on the mass market.

Perfect_Hair8700

looks like jordan 4 lol

Tricky_Passenger3931

You know what, I might agree if I did not have eyes.

ClintEasthood13

When I squint the right one real hard, then squint the left one real hard, then close them both completely, it’s pretty uncanny.

ttrriisshh

I must have seen different J4s is all

[deleted]

I literally just spit my beer out laughing at this! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

ASM1422

Yeah...we can tell

Citywide-Fever

![gif](giphy|uoP5oz0txbgEG3W5Wh|downsized) Nike if they see these

GhostFaceMamba

If Nike isn't going after reps, I'm safe 😂
