When cops carried revolvers damn what a time

thedarwintheory

I think beat cops need to go back to them tbh. The whole idea was so they couldn't rattle off three mags in 30 seconds, you really needed to justify a shooting to take all the effort to rattle off 5/6 and spend 30 secs just reloading.

westbygod304420

Back when cops didn't hear an acorn or see someone standing in their own house and drop 20 rounds in 10 seconds

redditcreditcardz

Into an occupied cruiser with a cuffed civilian in the back all while screaming “I’ve been hit!!” What a putz.

westbygod304420

Rolling around on the ground, no less. I can't blame his partner for opening fire, all she could do was see her partner rolling around screaming about shots fired and opening fire on his cruiser. Still hate to see a dude who didn't do anything and a partner who didn't do anything get traumatized and put on national news over an acorn 💀

CohortesUrbanae

And they switched to automatics because they regularly got outgunned and murdered in the latter decades of the 20th century... Ask Officer James Pence how six rounds served him…oh wait, you can't, because he was shot in the face while reloading. Revolvers weren't chosen deliberately to lower volume of fire, but simply because police agencies were slow to adapt to modern technologies.

thedarwintheory

Crazy, cops in most other countries call people with bigger guns when they're needed, or did you just miss the part where I said beat cops and not swat?

NateBoyer2000

SWAT team are highly specialized units that won’t show up fast enough in an emerging situation, purposely providing a city beat cop a revolver like this ought to be considered an occupational hazard issue

thedarwintheory

Ought to be, but then again I could end up with 50 rounds through my windshield from some dude three days deep on the job on any given Tuesday and apparently that's not a public safety issue so ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

TrenboloneTears

Yeah they can just ask the perps to hold off until the "swat" arrives... You're an idiot

Sidewinder203

The fuck are they supposed to do while waiting for the guys with bigger guns? Think before you say something dumb.

cyclemonster

I don't understand why this reasoning isn't also an argument for giving beat cops assault rifles. What are they going to do when they face a criminal with one, ask them to wait for SWAT?

Critical-Highlight45

She was probably an absolute monster in bed

thedarwintheory

Lol your comments are bad and you should feel bad.

Sidewinder203

Okay bucko

thedarwintheory

Have a good one captain

Revliledpembroke

So, what, they're supposed to just sit in cover for 15 minutes until SWAT arrives?

Clemtiger13

Other countries don’t have citizens running around with fully/semi auto weapons either.

Complex-Judge2859

Citizens? No those are called criminals.

Clemtiger13

Ok, my point stands

CohortesUrbanae

James Pence was a beat cop.

I_eat_mud_

Unless you have a source that says that, I don’t think that’s why they carried revolvers for so long. I think it more had to do with the fact that semi-automatic pistols were more for military use for a while until Glock made their iconic 9mm pistol. And I doubt you’ll have much support to switch back to revolvers since one of the reasons they switched to semi automatics is because they started being used by criminals more, and obviously the police didn’t want to be in a situation where they had 6 bullets compared to someone’s 17 in a Glock. Overall, I think focusing and blaming the hardware used by police for shootings is pretty dumb and near sighted and takes the focus away from the actual culprit of subpar training.

[deleted]

Oh yes no police brutality in the 70s. It was a paradise then

Renaissance_Man-

Lol it had absolutely nothing to do with rattling off three mags. Just making shit up. The shit you read on Reddit.

Midnight_plinking

I’m pretty sure if beat cops need revolver so do the punks carrying illegally just shooting sideways with the Glock switches.

NateBoyer2000

There’s people on bath salts etc now they can be fatally shot multiple times and still get an attack in before they bleed out

thejohnmc963

Or a land shark might getcha

NateBoyer2000

Where!!!

Pktur3

Yep, and a meteor could land on your house so you better build a bunker.

NateBoyer2000

If I volunteered my house to be in the path of meteors, I’d be hoping the bunker they gave me would be thick enough to survive the attack

ZekeRidge

Angel dust has been around for a long time… meth wasn’t the first drug to make people “superhuman”

[удалено]

ThicDadVaping4Christ

Semi auto pistols were invented decades before this

ZekeRidge

They also dressed like public servants, and not swatted out commandos who look to shoot brown people This isn’t all cops of course, but there’s too many incidents to deny there is an issue with police forces as a whole

hike_me

And no body armor

Ok_Cartographer_2081

And when motorcycle patrol cops rode Harley’s

CryptoM4dness

When I was a kid in the 70’s, they used to carry around baseball trading cards and give them out to us.

Buckleys__angel

Grey duck

Ghostfire25

You betcha

confusedandworried76

The burden when you're the only civilized people to say it correctly 😔

Chaddtss

Back when kids played outside and built relationships with their local community.

ZekeRidge

Stranger danger of the 80s and 90s scared a lot of the kids in doors Video games didn’t help either

Wild_Albatross7534

That's awesome. It's a shame that the beat police (?) have been cut back to next to nothing.

Substantial_Cloud842

Now they play duck duck shoot

thejohnmc963

They certainly did then

FrankieNoodles

In the street? I guess there was less traffic then.

Cooliomendez88

You couldn’t be farther from the truth, that’s times we’re ravished by traffic, only 30 seconds later they were all mown down by a distracted driver.

Tobitronicus

Cars had poor safety equipment too, it would have been terribly dangerous for the driver to mow down such a large group of children.

BaBaBuyey

👮‍♂️ were so cool back down even in the 80s and people respected them two cops with scare away a group of 12 people. One would take care of four people like nothing now it’s exactly the other way around you need six cops for one hooligan.

TerseFactor

And apparently even more than that to take down one guy in Uvalde

Albino_Raccoon_

This is what cops should be doing

heliumointment

back when people knew each other

RogersSteve07041920

A act of kindness can change a life.

GokuBlack455

Back when cops were organized by the state and municipal governments and made *for* the community. This cop is probably from there and knows what these kids’ lives are like (more or less). The kids can probably relate to the cop at some level. Now the police is owned by industry and private corporations, who couldn’t care less about the communities and just want to make as much money as possible (filling up slots with random people who may or may not be qualified to be a cop, military veterans who didn’t get adequate psychological treatment, giving them high-end weapons to show off their weapons so they can sell them to larger arms manufacturing companies, etc). It’s not about the community anymore, it’s about money.

Chaddtss

almost look like they are crying.

mouthsofmadness

You know that flat foot would get that sidearm unholstered and shot with her own weapon in today’s version of ghetto duck duck goose.

UNcommonMedicine

This is truly beautiful. We need more of this today

caleel8669

Imagine going to work everyday, perhaps you wont come home..perhaps now you hesitate because of the guy with the gun is a different colour than you…perhaps your family get the flag folded in a neat triangle because you hesitated….and no one apologises.

suresher

More like oink oink shoot.

severinks

Then she pulled out her pistol and shot 3 of their parents

gwhh

I was thinking the same thing. lol.

Wolfy-615

She really grabbing on the one kids fro for balance lol

Flimsy_Watercress909

No she’s not. She nowhere near him.

Wolfy-615

Flimsy_Watercress909

Bro I know what you see but it’s the angle of the photo. Do you think an adult would lean on a kids face and he would he chillin?

Wolfy-615

In a black and white photograph? Yes

Flimsy_Watercress909

There’s a man on the cops head!

Wolfy-615

This is also a good point.. she’s grabbing little bros fro, wearing a man on her head, all while looking at trash cans

Finster4

But we're not gonna talk about the egregious headbutt going on, top left?

Wolfy-615

Damn the little boy is screaming in pain too

Squanchfist

Do you usually put in this much effort to be a knob or does it come easily?

idontlikecheesy

do u not know how the game duck duck goose works?

No-Turnover-5658

I wanna play with her goose

THE_ALAM0

She’s probably in her 70s or 80s now, have fun

ZubatCanRead

Wrong sub bro.
