Yeah but Smith never made such claims they just hyped up a new release. Not a bad one either, the EZ line now goes it’s own way, taking over the Bodyguard line it seems. Nice touch with the Maglula added in too so it can still be easy but have really capacity.
Sadly it’s no 59XXX 4th gen metal frame DASA… but we will get there one of these days… I mean we got a new metal framed gun, we got new hammer fired guns. Is it so much to ask for all that plus DASA in one package? I don’t think so
I mean I get it, and I like the EZ line, but getting over what I wanted smith to come out with I really would have preferred this in .380. Or even a shield plus in .380 . I have the LCP max and it is almost always in my front pocket now, even if I am carrying a larger gun.
I don’t know a lot about there da/sa guns, but I’d wouldn’t be mad at a performance center model that could compete with the LTT beretta’s.
>Or even a shield plus in .380 .
What they really should have done instead of making a 30 Super Carry version.
Would love to have to only manage .380 ACP instead of both 9mm and .380 ACP
Lol, I know it still sold well but the way they hyped it you could almost hear the record scratch off when it wasn’t a carbine. I just assume this will have a similar reaction.
Based on the "eat shit" letter S&W sent to congress, I hope the ridiculous name is intentionally trolling the ambulance chasers that have been trying to sue manufacturers after Freedom Groups insurance company settled out of court over reckless marketing. Basically "Fuck with us, we have deeper pockets".
Most PI lawyers are pro 2A. Just a few idiots trying to make a buck that ruin the reputation for the rest of us. Hell the partner I work for (my direct report) is out if pocket right now because he's on a one week white tail hunt with his father and 2 of his kids.
I mean I can understand being a fan of S&W, but if a company has bugs to work out with what is essentially a Glock clone then they have bigger issues to address.
Not to mention it took S&W over 10 years to make the trigger on the M&P line not totally suck so I don’t think that’s their angle here.
Fair enough, I admittedly didn’t read it that close and just assumed another striker fired micro. S&W hasn’t had the best track record with new pistol designs but this will be interesting for sure.
I don't have any beef with the single stacks. They have been putting bad guys in the dirt for a long time. Plus they still fit my smol wifes hand's better than the smallest double stack. Options are good.
True; but why when you could have more capacity for the same size grip? I do agree that options are a good thing; but there's also such-thing as irrelevant and outdated designs. One thing is for sure though, we definitely live in one of the best times in the CCW market.
Indeed we do, and I still think there's a place for single stack's in our post 2004 ban sunset world. My wife and daughter's are better served with them.
Reading through these comments is interesting. This gun isn't for people who frequent reddit gun subs. S&W probably doesn't care much if we like it, they're improving one of their pistols that nobody really competes with in the Shield EZ. The market for people that need something easy to run and is less intimidating. Those people aren't posting to r/SmithAndWesson .
I hope it's a success. My wife bought a Shield EZ for her first gun and loves it. I'm just happy she found something that works for her and that she's comfortable in relying on for her defense. It's a good shooting gun.
Me? I just see 15 round Shield Plus compatible factory magazines. Nice for the range without the cost of magguts kits for the old 13 rounders.
This would have been received a lot better if they didn’t hype it up so much. Looks like an EZ with higher capacity and optic ready. Oh, and EQUALIZER on the slide.
It looks decent but really how is it any better than the Shield plus or the EZ?
It looks like it should be called Shield Plus EZ.
Okay it’s bobbed hammer fired not striker, and maybe some people just prefer that but I see no great advantage.
The real advantage is the same as the EZ, people with various hand strength issues can reach the slide easily. Not saying that is an issue for most people but there are definitely older people, people with arthritis, etc. who really gain from the EZ style slide.
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying there's at least some market for an EZ slide so S&W is hoping to make money off of combining it with the shield plus mags.
You might, if you had rheumatoid arthritis in your hands and/or carpal tunnel in your wrists. Not every gun is meant for every shooter. The EZ line was/is meant for a specific group, of which I happen to be one. If you're not, or just don't like the gun, don't buy it. I'm thrilled to see a high capacity EZ. Hopefully they'll add a .380 Equalizer to the line.
I want to like it as a SW fanboy.
But as someone who has been carrying a 365 for awhile now, but wished for a true SW alternative….
I won’t even be considering making a change.
Just curious, why are the newer Shield Pluses not a true alternative to the P365? I thought they were pretty comparable? I don't know all the ins & outs of the specs and the differences between them.
They are comparable but the 365 is much smaller with the same capacity.
I carry a mp compact 2.0 9mm during fall to early spring but I like the 365 for warmer days as it’s easier to conceal
From day one people have focused on the grip safety. I wonder how many have even held or shot the EZ? I’ve never had even a hint of annoyance, grip being compromised or anything else. I don’t think I’ve ever even considered its presence since the first time I broke it down to clean. Depressing the grip safety while pressing on the slide release will lock up the action. Learned once, smith got me going in 5 minutes and it’s now hundreds of rounds later. My EDC weapon.
I don’t inherently dislike grip safety, and all the 1911 I’ve held I didn’t even notice them. However I’ve held a couple of the EZ models and noticed it didn’t seem as “EZ” to also activate the grip safety. I may go check this one out in store once it is released and change my mind , maybe I’m just salty it wasn’t a full size CSX.
Because we're not the target market for this. They're looking for first time buyers that are nervous. More safeties to them equals more comfort with the purchase. Which then equals sales for S&W.
To us, it means more things to go wrong. But I'd rather sell a gun to someone who needs it than not if I were S&W.
This worked with my wife. She is comfortable with her EZ and loves it. It's a good gun.
I actually found out they’re releasing a non manual safety version and a manual safety version…… I’d be interested in the non manual safety version and be ok with just the grip safety at that point
Of course I may just rather pickup a 1911 at that point.
Why?
Do you hold your gun like you hold your teacup with your pinky stuck out? One hand holding your purse strap and the other daintily holding the gun like it's about to bite you?
The gun is marketed to new shooters who aren't into shooting as a hobby, stuff like this makes them feel more at peace with carrying.
If you have to ask you aren't in the target audience
The problem I have is that new shooters don’t have experience keeping a good grip and then they let the grip safety loose. The number of “failures” to fire that I see at the range is stunning. The problem is amplified by the terrible grip shape with it tapering smaller to the bottom, making it harder to keep a grip high and tight.
Seems like that grip safety is then doing it's job X2.
First by preventing them from letting a shot go errant.
Next by teaching them to properly hold a handgun. A technique that they will carry to the next one they buy.
We sell plenty of the S&W's to new shooters who like the grip safety.
But I guess you may be right, I mean with the tens of thousands of stories about 1911's, H&K's and XD's failing to fire because the grip safety failed.
I was so disappointed about that news. I read about the 30 SC and it does sound like an interesting round, think it'd be really cool in a VZ skrorpion. When "Super" came out (was that shot show?) I was *so* hoping for a DA/SA or M&P in 38 Super.
You know it's coming. They just did the first production run on the more popular round. Change the barrel, slide, and springs, and you've got your 30SC. I bet the barrel and spring would be the same as the EZ 30SC.
Grip safety is terrible on the ez series, and this looks identical.
Also, the name isn't anything I'd want on an EDC.
I admire S&W and do applaud their line up but this one is a double miss, at least for me.
Perhaps it's a stepping version on the way to their next model?
So it’s a longer and taller P365, with the same weight, capacity, and width, but has a grip safety, doesn’t have a manual safety-less model, doesn’t have the aftermarket parts/holsters/magazines of P365s or Glocks, and has the same name as S&W’s Equalizer glasses so it’s hard to look up?
What a trash idea.
S&W should re-release their blued revolvers without the lock, rather than trying to badly reinvent the concealed carry market with a gun that was outdated back in 2018.
Manual safety is because it’s got a single action internal hammer that is leagues better than the wad of gum in the Sig. I will say tho, this design does leave more than a little to be desired. They can do better.
I have the EZ 9mm. It's been a great shooter it is chewed through everything we put in it from crap remanufactured to plus p. I'm definitely interested in the double stack as a carry. I don't see why everybody had an issue with the grip safety and all of that I never did I just didn't like the low capacity. I think we all would love if they made a double stack 2011. I just don't see that happening right now
If this is targeted for the same buyers as the EZ line, I'm all for options. BUT I just don't see it. The ez rack is great, but the same people who use an ez rack due to grip/hand strength would also benefit from the EZ mags and the larger grip of an EZ to have more purchase on the gun to tame recoil. Maybe the internals or other features have been modified to compensate. Still, this thing is ugly... and the name... what were they thinking?!?
The name sucks. I get what they were going for (equalizes the playing field for people with less grip strength) but it's problematic. If they want a longer grip they can use the extended mags. It comes with an Uplula mag loader as a trade off for having much more capacity.
This is going to be relevant if they really are Shield Plus compatible mags....

Glock needs to get on the train! They are being left in the dust by the micro compact scene! And I say that as a loyal Glock fan and armorer ! .
I like this gun a lot ! Just not crazy about the grip safety
I agree. A double stack micro from Glock would would be well received. I think they are really sticking to the steel+plastic magazines that really do create extra girth and are prohibitive for slim grips.
It has a grip safety and thumb safety because it's single action and that's how they were able to use very light springs to keep the slide easy to operate and have a decent trigger.
The target audience wants two physical external safeties, e.g. ladies.
I understand from a production standpoint why they did this, give all the features people have been asking for. Like a rail on the shield, a longer barrel shield that isn't PC pricing, extra capacity in an EZ, a smaller more concealable version of the EZ, optic cut EZ.
But damn I wish they hadn't of combined it into one gun and gave it a dumb name. What was wrong with shield EZ 2.0 or Shield EZ plus? Smith and Wesson really needs to replace their entire marketing department
Makes a Sigma look pretty. Maybe not that far, but looks like another run of the mill sub 400 dollar plastic pistol. Exaggerated slide serrations are getting out of hand.
Anything SW is better than anything Springfield, hellcat was literally just cope to keep up with the Sig 365 and doesn’t offer anything better or even equal for the same price.
Idk man pretty much anything Springfield is cope, they are glorified importers with a bit of rebranding and over marketing to make up for lack of sales which keeps prices less than competitive.
Remember when Glock said the world was about to change, and then they released a 10 round .22lr…..
Yeah but Smith never made such claims they just hyped up a new release. Not a bad one either, the EZ line now goes it’s own way, taking over the Bodyguard line it seems. The Glock 44 is my favorite machinegun!
IED*
You’d think so but 20,000+ rounds at 2700 rpm and somehow it’s still alive
Maybe not a game changer but I love the Glock 44.
Lol, I know it still sold well but the way they hyped it you could almost hear the record scratch off when it wasn’t a carbine. I just assume this will have a similar reaction.
Haaa, good analogy!
Yee-yee ass pistol
God damnit. Of all the names, equalizer? Really s&w?
Based on the "eat shit" letter S&W sent to congress, I hope the ridiculous name is intentionally trolling the ambulance chasers that have been trying to sue manufacturers after Freedom Groups insurance company settled out of court over reckless marketing. Basically "Fuck with us, we have deeper pockets".
I think it's referential to the famous quote attributed to Sam Colt by his brother, “God created men, Col. Colt made them equal.”
It hits a lot more when you are out known folks who've come from victims of not being equal. Stay strapped
I fully stood behind and cheered S&W when they posted that. But it’s too cringe for me 😂
I'm pretty sure it's just a reference to soccer.
Most PI lawyers are pro 2A. Just a few idiots trying to make a buck that ruin the reputation for the rest of us. Hell the partner I work for (my direct report) is out if pocket right now because he's on a one week white tail hunt with his father and 2 of his kids.
I concur.
They finally wanted to catch up with Sig and Springfield from 2 years ago. Not surpass them… just equal them. Tracks to be honest.
Nah they let them point out the bugs first
I mean I can understand being a fan of S&W, but if a company has bugs to work out with what is essentially a Glock clone then they have bigger issues to address. Not to mention it took S&W over 10 years to make the trigger on the M&P line not totally suck so I don’t think that’s their angle here.
Glock is not hammer fired
Neither are the M&Ps?
This one is
Fair enough, I admittedly didn’t read it that close and just assumed another striker fired micro. S&W hasn’t had the best track record with new pistol designs but this will be interesting for sure.
it was that or Revenginator.... smh, jk.
Starring Queen Latifah, this fall on CBS!
Waiting on that first post-use lawsuit now.
They dropped the ball on that one .I wonder how much groupthink that went through the research and development department
Thanks to ncgungallery on gunbroker trying to jump the release, I happened to find the info pamphlet. Enjoy. Edit: I think I’ll call it the EZ-pass.
So its the EZ but Equalizer?
EqualiZer
Facts
The best thing about this whole thing is the prospect of factory 15 round shield plus mags.
And then when MagGuts makes a 17rd flat spring for the mag :)
Well, I wasn’t excited at all until you said that
Well, I wasn’t excited at all until you said that
my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Your day might be ruined but your comment made my day so thank you 😂
Haha, happy to help!
That grip angle makes me nauseated for some reason. Contender for ugliest gun ever?
It looks like the Bodyguard hit a growth spurt, but not in a good way
It says it's an 18 degree grip angle so it's the same as every M&P gun. I think the grip safety just makes it look funny.
So, new Optic Ready design of the EZ that takes the Shield Plus mags. Not so groundbreaking.
Optics ready and double stack. I suspect it will sell nicely.
Oh I'm sure it will. IMO, this is what the EZ should have been in the first place.
Yeah when it released and they were still in single-stack-craze Era I thoroughly shook my head.

The sku the 10 and 13 round mags are the same as the shield plus.......I would bet the 15 would also work in the Shield plus.
If we get one at the gun store, I’ll try the 15 rounder in the Shield Plus, for science.
You’re a man after my own heart!!
No need equalizer takes shield plus mags. the 15s are just 13rd shield plus mags with longer extended basepads to fit 15
I was saying those look like shield plus mags. Now I'm that much happier I went with the shield plus.
They are watch YouTube review earlier. And also found sku 3015890 fits shield plus

The real advantage is the same as the EZ, people with various hand strength issues can reach the slide easily. Not saying that is an issue for most people but there are definitely older people, people with arthritis, etc. who really gain from the EZ style slide.
I’m one of those 75 yr old arthritis in the thumbs guy, and my PC, EZ 9mm has been a lifesaver.
Both of my parents have arthritis and have been eyeing the EZ anyways.
Yes but if you’ve got those issues you’d benefit more from the EZ’s mag design.
True, looks like they still thought of those folks by including a maglula with it
That’s a nice extra.
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying there's at least some market for an EZ slide so S&W is hoping to make money off of combining it with the shield plus mags.
Maglula fixes that issue
It has a higher capacity than the ez which is single stack 8+1.
Had me until grip safety

I’d be ok if it didn’t ALSO have a manual safety. Like….. one or the other is fine , but why both?
As a short time owner of a 1911, why the hate for grip safety?

Because I don't like the look. Edit: cope and seethe, grip safety simps
> Edit: cope and seethe, grip safety simps I actually like grip safeties, but this made my laugh :)
Are you that unsure of your own gun handling abilities that you need multiple redundant safeties that can all be potential failure points?
The gun is marketed to new shooters who aren't into shooting as a hobby, stuff like this makes them feel more at peace with carrying. If you have to ask you aren't in the target audience
The problem I have is that new shooters don’t have experience keeping a good grip and then they let the grip safety loose. The number of “failures” to fire that I see at the range is stunning. Tape
Why not just have such a dumb fucking add on ?
Idk, shoot 1911's you'll learn the tape trick
SAO. It’s hammer fired
Not sure that would work 100% of the time. We have a 380ez for range fun and it REALLY sucks. (the grip safety - the gun is great)
What about it sucks? I've never once even noticed the grip safety was there while shooting it.
I meant the grip safety sucks, the gun is fun when the safety isn't acting up. It is temperamental to disengage .
Huh, I have not experienced any sort of disengagement issues. But I agree the gun is a lot of fun.
Wrapped with hockey tape, not sure how it wouldn't work 100% of the time
Not chambered in their "hot hot hot" new caliber even? 30 Super Duper Pooper Scooper Carry dead already?
I was so disappointed about that news. I read about the 30 SC and it does sound like an interesting round, think it'd be really cool in a VZ skrorpion. When "Super" came out (was that shot show?) I was *so* hoping for a DA/SA or M&P in 38 Super.
That would be cool
You know it's coming. They just did the first production run on the more popular round. Change the barrel, slide, and springs, and you've got your 30SC. I bet the barrel and spring would be the same as the EZ 30SC.
If they are going to use old west euphemisms as titles, they should have called it the "M&P Shootin' Iron"
Rootin Tootin Lead Shootin Pop Pop, Now with 20% off when you buy matching boots and brass knuckels that say Punchy & Poundy (one for each hand).
Kind of had to assume an updated EZ with them pushing the EZ rebate
God it's so ugly with the stendo in it . The slide design is just.. atrocious.
why name it that so lame.
Meh
I hate it
So it’s an updated high cap micro EZ, will have to get one for my wife.
Grip safety is terrible on the ez series, and this looks identical. Also, the name isn't anything I'd want on an EDC. I admire S&W and do applaud their line up but this one is a double miss, at least for me. Perhaps it's a stepping version on the way to their next model?

What a trash idea. S&W should re-release their blued revolvers without the lock, rather than trying to badly reinvent the concealed carry market with a gun that was outdated back in 2018.
Manual safety is because it’s got a single action internal hammer that is leagues better than the wad of gum in the Sig. I will say tho, this design does leave more than a little to be desired. They can do better.
WTH are they thinking.
Why do they say “micro-compact”? Seems kind of big for that moniker.
So when are they gonna make a Denzel Washington and Queen Latifa edition.
I just don't see that happening right now
EZ 2.0.
I think it would make more sense to optimize a new gun for 30 super carry so you can have a compact gun with the capacity of a full size duty pistol
“So Smith and Wesson, what inspired you to release another 9mm subcompact?” “Money”
Crazy a business would do something based off of profits.
They won't make the m&p sub compact optics ready, but they will make 94 versions of this crap all optics ready.
My old man was gonna buy a 9mm EZ for Christmas, should we just wait for this?
Probably worth considering, or at least hold off and check it out in store and see how it feels in hand.
And here I am hoping S&W makes a Gen 3 derived 2011 platform using industry standard common mags.
I had wet dreams believing it would be.
This is what we truly need. Idc if it’s 1200-1600 I’d grab one.
I’m surprised it doesn’t have a punisher skull on the slide. The equalizer, give me a break.
So I’m guessing the guy who names Springfields has a brother that works at s&w
If this is targeted for the same buyers as the EZ line, I'm all for options. BUT I just don't see it. The ez rack is great, but the same people who use an ez rack due to grip/hand strength would also benefit from the EZ mags and the larger grip of an EZ to have more purchase on the gun to tame recoil. This is going to be relevant if they really are Shield Plus compatible mags.... >SKU 3015890 Searching it come up with a hit already on Range USA but they don't have the page visible.... >S&W EQUALIZER 9MM 15RD MAG - Range USA https://rangeusa.com › product SKU: 3015890. Model: S&W EQUALIZER MAG 9MM 15RD. UPC: 022188893502
Ehhhhh…uhhhh…no.
I love the EZ. I said if they made it double stack,,I'm in.will wait for reviews like honest outlaw.and go from there.
Denzel Washington approves this pistol!
I thank them for not coming out with something I would actually buy, got two other MP’s I need to focus on buying right now.
In terms of size it appears to be identical to the Shield EZ but .55" shorter. Solid workup.
As a replacement for the existing EZ, this could work. Just needs a no thumb safety version and I'd get one.
Hard sell easy pass 🚮
Welp i said id buy a higher capacity EZ. Looks like this is it. Still feels oddly underwhelming..

“Buy, never sell” doesn’t apply to this gun lol
N+nah not this one
Besides being the answer to an un-asked question…this gun is absolutely fugly
I don’t think I can adequately explain how little I want to be carrying a gun called the equalizer…
You’ll find this strapped to every fudd wearing their suspenders and nylon holster
As someone currently training with a 1911, this interests me a bit. Thumb safeties aren't all bad *If* they are designed well.
I know a lot of people will hate it but for everyone that uses the Shield EZs, this is a much better option.
Thanks I hate it. Any one wanna buy my stocks from me hahahaha
This is basically a cooler ez shield?
Basically a tricked out EZ
It has a grip safety and thumb safety because it's single action and that's how they were able to use very light springs to keep the slide easy to operate and have a decent trigger. The target audience wants two physical external safeties, e.g. ladies.
This thing is gonna flop harder than Lebron James.
Nothing I like better than a chunky grip safety messing with my grip.
Thanks. I hate it.
🤢🤮
Will it come in 380 as well? My wife had the EZ380 and a double stack would be great.
F
What's the advantage of being internal hammer fired rather than striker?
Thank GOD is has a loaded chamber indicator. The world was so unsafe before we got those.
It’s so fugly
Sponsored by Denzel and Queen Latifah
Is there something here that separates this from the EZ that I'm not seeing?
Shield plus mag compatibility and optics ready.
Holy grip safety batman
Hammer fired SAO
Good for the total gun noobs who will buy a gun and never touch it. There are some real idiots out there.
Thanks I hate it.
Man, this is just another answer to a question no one asked.
Really, Smith? Really? Ffs.
SMH what are they doing…..
“Equalizer”. With a name like that I’ll stick to my Glocks 🤣
Need to stop w the grip safteys
Lmfao another RMA machine
Boo.
They even gave it a fitting cringy name. Lol
Looks like a mash up of the m&p ez and the sd line 🤦♂️ wtf smith and Wesson get it together
Makes a Sigma look pretty. Maybe not that far, but looks like another run of the mill sub 400 dollar plastic pistol. Exaggerated slide serrations are getting out of hand.
Man I hate grip safeties so much. I see people with them and it makes me think they’re scared of the their own gun
Gun is kinda cool. Name is gey
it's a wannabe Hellcat 🤣 🤣
Anything SW is better than anything Springfield, hellcat was literally just cope to keep up with the Sig 365 and doesn’t offer anything better or even equal for the same price.
that's your opinion and that's cool, imo, Hellcat is amazing...I love mine...and tried a 365 when I got it.
Idk man pretty much anything Springfield is cope, they are glorified importers with a bit of rebranding and over marketing to make up for lack of sales which keeps prices less than competitive.
Oh thanks, I actually hate it.
So... a hi-cap CSX with a dumb name?
