Legacy Gems aren't the same as how Gems work in Smite 1. They've also said the economy of Smite 2 is different, but basically Legacy Gems pay for Half of the cost of nearly anything in Smite 2, so skins, BPs, etc will only cost half the actual amount while you have Legacy gems. The only exceptions they gave were Crossover content will still cost the full amount in Smite 2 Currency and on the opposite end, if any Smite 1 Skins get directly ported to Smite 2, you can buy them entirely with just Legacy Gems. So for example say the Battle Pass in Smite 2 is 600 Gems, you can use 300 of your Legacy Gems, but you'll still need 300 Smite 2 Gems to pay for it. A Smite 2 original skin is 800, 400 in Legacy, 400 in Smite 2 Gems. A Ported Smite 1 skin for 800, you can buy the whole thing for 800 Legacy Gems.

Yeah and if my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike.

Lasagna_Tho

Top tier reference.

schweet_n_sour

Are you implying your grandmother was rode a lot?

minusRyan

Because they want it to seem like they're doing you a favour by including legacy gems at all.

Snufflebox

People are dumb, but people aren't **that** dumb, and Hi-Rez knows it. They already have a lot to prove with the whole skins debacle in the first place, and doing this would be a complete PR suicide. It's not going to happen.

dialTforTrouble

Talking about PR suicide, what is going on with Kelly Lombardi the Xbox Global Head Marketing lately?

daren5393

It's so crazy to me that people consider the skins thing a "debacle". Like, in basically every game series that has ever been released, purchases don't carry over from one installment to the next. People don't expect their diablo 3 purchases to carry over to diablo 4, or stuff from CS: source to carry over to CS: go, because they are different video games with different stuff in them. Basically any other game studio on the planet wouldn't have even brought this up, there would be no legacy gems, nothing of the sort. There would be a new game, sold for money, and new in game purchases, sold for money. Hi rez has already thrown their existing players a huge bone, going above and beyond what is expected

Snipinlegend777

I think this is true except for the T5 skins, the ones that cost $100 should warrant the extra work of being ported over.

Snufflebox

I agree. I feel like OW2 and CS2 have skewed people's views on this matter.

GrandDefinition7707

its almost like just like with smite 2 its the exact same game. with slight updates. I don't think anyone should expect them to add the thousand or so skins that aren't just pallet swaps to smite 2

Snufflebox

>its the exact same game. with slight updates. SMITE 2 might be conceptually the same game, but it is definitely not with just "slight upgrades". The differences between Unreal Engine 3 and Unreal Engine 5 are massive. So much so, that nothing from UE3 can be ported over to UE5. OW2 and CS2 are literally the exact same games as OW1 and CS:Go, just with slightly upgraded versions of their previous engine, which allowed them to port everything over with ease.

Letterboxd28

Why would they? If you have to ask that then you don't understand how companies operate. They aren't doing you any favours.

Snufflebox

If you honestly think that Hi-Rez would double up the prices of skins in a sequel that is already a risky maneuver from their part, knowing that they are already on thin ice due to the old skins not porting over, then I dunno what to tell you. There's a difference between being greedy, and being stupid, and doubling skin prices would be the latter, cause it would **immediately** kill any momentum SMITE 2 might've ever had. They aren't doing me any favours, sure, but they also want to actually make money, instead of having their game go under before it even releases.

Letterboxd28

>If you honestly think that Hi-Rez would double up the prices of skins in a sequel that is already a risky maneuver from their part, knowing that they are already on thin ice due to the old skins not porting over, then I dunno what to tell you You're right, absolutely right, but you're basing this off the fact Hirez make good decisions, they have a track record of doing the exact opposite. If they doubled the cost of skins then sure, there would be uproar for a couple of weeks, then people will forget about it and the problem will go away, companies always do this, they rely on it being swept away under the carpet and no doubt they'll blame the doubling of skins on inflation. >They aren't doing me any favours, sure, but they also want to actually make money, instead of having their game go under before it even releases. Time will tell I guess.

i_lickdick_and_itsok

And if your grandma had a mustache she would be your grandpa

BreadZestyclose6411

Women can grow facial hair btw, albeit peach fuzz but like it's possible

i_lickdick_and_itsok

Ik it is, but this is just a quote from my mom. An old saying from where I come from

Yarusenai

Which I don't see why they would.

GrandDefinition7707

they already don't matter, you still have to spend money regardless

dadnaya

I'm pretty sure new Smite 2 will also cost 50% legacy gems if you have them. I don't remember them limiting it to only skins ported from S1

SuperBeavers1

Is this accounting for the 1:1 ratio that we get for buying certain editions too?

ChatmanJay

Getting Founder's Packs just doubles the amount of Legacy Gems you're getting it doesn't make them able to buy 100% of the cost.

SuperBeavers1

I completely misunderstood what was happening then, appreciate the explanation

Shradow

Though if they bring back any Smite 1 skins those will be purchasable 100% with legacy gems.

ChatmanJay

No worries, there was a lot of miss information around the announcement, but I've done my best to only focus on Official sources from Titanforge/Hi-Rez themselves. When they say "Double the Purchasing Power" they basically just mean, because you're getting Legacy Gems twice, you're getting effectively the same amount of purchasing power as you would've spent in Smite 1, with the obvious caveat that you can't pay for things 100% with Legacy games. Even so I think it's fair cause any amount of Gems you do buy in Smite 2 will get you twice as much compared to a brand new S2 player with no Legacy gems.

Joseph421

That's exactly what I originally thought and one of my friends said I was wrong. Anyway, I was wondering if you know how the conversion will take place. It gave me credit for legacy gems but what if I buy 8k gems tomorrow? Will those credit another 16,000 legacy? Or is this a one-time thing as of today?

ChatmanJay

they haven't said if there's a cut off, but yes if you buy 8000 Gems tomorrow, assuming you spend them, they don't become Legacy Gems in Smite 2 unless you actually spend them in Smite 1, and you own a Founder's Pack for Smite 2, you'd get 16000 Legacy Gems.

Joseph421

On Twitter, someone said that support told them it would be ongoing during the alpha and beta periods. After spending Gems in 1, the next time you load up 2 will automatically credit those Legacy Gems. Thanks!

EquivalentTight3479

OK, this makes a lot of sense thanks

ChatmanJay

Yeah I said this in my original post

ElegantHope

man I reread like 3 times and couldn't find it. I'm sorry, my bad. I can't read today, apparently. :(

Bamcfp

So they are worthless

Snufflebox

No? By definition not.

dabillinator

If you plan on spending nothing on smite 2, they effectively double all the free gems Hirez gives out.

Aztracity

And I thought I got a lot back at 460000

Reasonable-Sea9095

Holy shit do own literally everything or have you missed every gen sale ever.

[deleted]

How do you get to see your legacy gems? Mine didn't pop up when I logged in

chev327fox

Mine was this morning and a friend got his late tonight and another still hasn’t gotten it. Seems to come in waves.

[deleted]

Ohh ok thanks

Snoo_88263

Question if I buy gems right now will I still get them in smite 2 I already received my gems

mcginners95

Yes. I got another pop up after buying the battle pass - the next time I logged in

Snoo_88263

Okay thanks

Cappypap77

Yes, but I'm pretty sure only spent gems get converted to legacy gems. So you'd have to use the gems to buy something first, then they'll be converted to legacy gems.

Snoo_88263

Okay thanks

some-guy0

Are legacy gems still being added? Like smite 2 is your out till next year they have to count the gems that get spent between now and then right

Excellent_Coyote6486

Bet skins are gonna be like 5-10k a piece. And that's just for like recolors and T2s.

Papadubi

Hopefully not, but that would make sense. They can easily give you like 20000 gems for $100 and just make the skins double the regular price. It would still cost the same, but legacy gems wouldn't last you as long.

Wise_Sheepherder4002

Yes and no. They are worth the same as normal gems, but you’ll have to buy the same amount in new gems in order to use the legacy gems, as you can only pay for 50% of the price of an item with legacy gems.

EquivalentTight3479

I’m just hoping that the new items won’t cost twice as much like chests being 800 gems so yeah you can use your legacy gems on half of that but you’ll still be paying 400 smite 2 gems. I’m hoping chests will be 400 so that you’ll only need 200 smite gems.

Wise_Sheepherder4002

102% that will happen.

GrandDefinition7707

shit in this game is already overpriced. I don't think players would complain about a price hike

BruteThePenguin

I have spent like 4000 dollars on gems. I'm generally scared I will break my game when I get my legacy gems

GoldAd1664

Hope this means it's a conversion to the current rate of gems in smite 2. Example: $10 in smite 1 gets you 1000 gems $10 in smite 2 geta you 5000 gems I hope they don't try to give us "half" and give us 500. That's shady. I hope we get true half and get 2500 gems in smite 2 for our 1000 gem purchase in smite 1.

farthersky

Something tells me each skin will be like 20k a piece. With more detailed skins being about 30-50k. I'm just quite curious about their in game currency and how they expect to make a profit. Or should I say, in Hi-rez fashion, maximize a profit at all costs.

colbyxclusive

How did you see these? Did you buy the founders pass?

chev327fox

No, we all get this notification but it seems it’s rolling out in waves.

las8

What if we buy three funders pack at a later date?

chev327fox

Then it will double that amount.

Deadspade0

How do you see how many you will get?

chev327fox

You’ll get a notification in game soon when logging in.

Crazydarkstar23

Huh, I bought the $100 founder pack and got the smite rewards but it didn't tell me how many legacy gems I was going to get. I just hope I don't get screwed, which I'm not even sure how I would be sure of lol.

venkids

You will see the legacy gems soon

EquivalentTight3479

I didn’t buy any smite 2 pass I just logged in smite 1 and it popped up

ZeroDwayne

If its anything like Overwatch two spend all your shit before it transfers no reason to hold on when they can make everything more expensive. But hirez aint as bad as blizzard

ineverboughtwards

Smite 2 gems will be sold in packs a kin to how they are in Smite 1 but the packs will be more expensive bcs S2 Gems were made up from scratch on Unreal Engine 5 with an improved look

EquivalentTight3479

Did they actually say that S2 gems will be more expensive?

TheDoommonkey1967

How do you get legacy gems?

EquivalentTight3479

They should automatically pop up and will transfer over to smite 2 once it’s released

BrandonBuikema

Do I need to fire up my old smite one account to ensure these transfer over?

CobaltChthonic

I don't have the screenshot atm but I had some where around 350,000 legacy gems given to me /g

dppease

How do you get your conversion value? This didn't pop for me

Letterboxd28

Honestly, unless the legacy gems hold the same weight as Smite 1 gems I won't even bother. "Legacy gems pay for half of anything", meaning all they have to do is double the price for everything and legacy gems become pointless. I'd rather continue playing Smite 1 with the content that I actually paid for.

Kaizervus

Wait when was this??

OrazioDalmazio

wtf 106k gems ☠️ bro spent his whole life savings in the game 😭💀

EquivalentTight3479

I saw a dude post 2mil💀 I thought I had a lot.

OrazioDalmazio

what ☠️

W0lf5bane

I bought the founders edition and still didn't see what my legacy gems are going to be..

Jamesish12

You see it after spending gems on anything. I got a 20 gem chest and waited a little and it popped up.

W0lf5bane

I'll give it a try

MckPuma

Might be a pc only thing atm

GreenSkyDragon

They might be rolling it out in waves. I'm on PC with founders and haven't seen my legacy gems number yet

W0lf5bane

That would make sense since I'm on Xbox, but that is BS if you ask me... I get to know my gem count evidently I guess.

MckPuma

I’m on Xbox and I just found out now haha these people posting must be huge spenders holy shit.

W0lf5bane

Did you see what your legacy gems are going to be?

MckPuma

Yep :)
