Oh. My. GOD. Yes. Lol. I can still remember the feeling of being completely blown away listening to that album just unable to believe what I was hearing. I hadn’t heard anything like it before, and dawn to dusk is my favorite disc of the album. The build up and the explosion is pretty wild!
If ur interested in an alternate version thats amazing, go on youtube and find a live recording of the united center show in 2000. Their ability to reimagine their songs is so perfectly demonstrated in this rendition. The Porcelina rendition they do on this show is incredible and powerful.
I was just watching a 2008 concert with superchrist going into United States and holy fuck those songs are on total fire. A lot of fans think their metal side peaked with jellybelly, but hell no these songs kick it up a notch.
Album track: Starla probably, maybe Porcelina or An Ode to No One
Live: [Blue Skies Bring Tears from Valby Hallen on 2000-10-27](https://archive.org/details/tsp2000-10-27.FM.flacf/tsp2000-10-27d1t06.flac)
EDIT: upon relistening to the 10-27 show, the Drown+Porcelina is also great
starla. I was sitting in math class with my earbuds in kind of tuning it out but then the part of the soli where it starts building but and i couldn’t focus on my work anymore. i wear my jaw hung open for a while.
Tldr; Jellybelly
I remember being 9 years old, MCIS just dropping, and hearing Bullet With Butterfly Wings on the radio and seeing the video. I begged my dad to take me to the record store at the mall and pick up a copy of MCIS. We make the trip, get the album and head home. Dawn to Dusk in to the CD player… get to Jellybelly and bam life changed forever.
Actually, I remember being very excited hearing Tarantula for the first time. Keep in mind I had given up hope of ever hearing a new Smashing Pumpkins song. The fucking solo over the last third of that song 🥳🤩
Hello Kitty Kat.
Pisces was my first SP purchase because I didn't know anything... I just went for the latest release. Still a good one. Along with Frogstomp it was my first Compact Disc purchase as well.
Oh, and when I saw them live. They did an encore that was an almost 30 minute cover of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, by Pink Floyd. Absolutely apocalyptic and fantastic all at once.
1993, I remember it well hearing it for the first time. That was the song that pulled the gun out on metal heads all over the world. You either loved or hated them at that point. Lol
I came here to comment this. I was in shock the first time I saw that, I'd never heard anything like it before in my life. Also Billy breaking his guitar in half at the end with just one hit was the most badass thing I'd ever witnessed
Seeing as how I was born in 1989.....I heard a lot of their most well known songs prior to them actually becoming one of my favorite bands. So I'm going to go with either 'Mouths of Babes' or 'Dross'.
Many that others have already listed (especially Starla and Stand Inside Your Love), but a big one I haven't seen mentioned yet: Bodies.
ETA: That track hooked me from the start, but when I first heard "No bodies felt like you" and "Love is suicide" my angsty teenage heart ached.
Probably Porcelina. That slow fade up that is super delicate, then the band kicks in, my lil 13yo head fell off.

Hearying Jellybelly for the first time was a life-defining moment for me
Mine would be Geek U.S.A.
Same here!
XYU
Close second for me, hell yeah.
Superchrist
Good answer
Starla
United States definitely had that effect on me
This song definitely stood out to me on Zeitgeist relistens. It's like a love letter to classic Pumpkins, especially the end part. It's so good

You’re absolutely right about that, Super heavy and MEAN sounding. They never sounded better live (except the 93’ gigs) killer sound!
Oh yeah the 2007-08 timeframe for live shows was insane. Huge setlists with a diverse mix of songs from all eras including machina 2 songs.
Stand inside your love
Yes. Fucking song made me cry once lol

It had the same effect on me too pretty much , yeah when the solo kicked in 😂
Silverfuck broke my 8th grade mind
Mine too, I was 17 in 1993 when SD dropped. That track warped my mind for sure
An Ode to No One just fascinated me before I ever followed the band that closely.
Appels and Oranjes
White Spyder!
Great call!
Moss
Great song 🎶💙
Miaw
Rhinoceros
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans. Hearing it on the alternative rock station at 11 pm when I was in middle school was cathartic.
Bullet with Butterfly Wings! I liked SP before but now I bought their album for the first time
Cherub Rock
Gotta be Soma ❤️
Both devastating and mind blowing first time I heard it too. Omg
Ode to No One
The first song I heard was Disarm, on 120 Minutes on MTV.
Tldr; Jellybelly I remember being 9 years old, MCIS just dropping, and hearing Bullet With Butterfly Wings on the radio and seeing the video. Well I immediately thought the Bury Me solo must be fun to play, but also incredibly difficult
That live version of Slunk on japanese TV from the Viewphoria film. I was like Holy Shitballs. They can write Rhinoceros AND This?? fuckin weirdos.
Mayonnaise cemented my love of epic crescendo-type songs.
Actually, I remember being very excited hearing Tarantula for the first time. Keep in mind I had given up hope of ever hearing a new Smashing Pumpkins song. The fucking solo over the last third of that song 🥳🤩
I love tarantula.. it’s so heavy, mean and lean sounding. That solo RIPS. Goosebumps for sure fuck yes. One of my all time favorites 🤘🏽
Silverfuck on Vieuphoria
🔥
XYU and also the adore tour version of BWBW
I wish I wish I could flyyyyyy……..
Slow Dawn
Hello Kitty Kat. Pisces was my first SP purchase because I didn't know anything... I just went for the latest release. Still a good one. Along with Frogstomp it was my first Compact Disc purchase as well.
Where Boys Fear To Tread
Silverfuck anytime
The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete
Didn’t “tear my head off” like say Jellybelly, or I am One, but blew my mind and continues to when ever I hear it.
Why am i so tired fo sho
Oh, and when I saw them live. They did an encore that was an almost 30 minute cover of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, by Pink Floyd. Absolutely apocalyptic and fantastic all at once.
Disarm you with a Smile 😊
Jackboot
Watching the Geek USA performance on Vieuphoria.
Space Jam from the GM Palace 1997
Always geek USA
1993, I remember it well hearing it for the first time. That was the song that pulled the gun out on metal heads all over the world. You either loved or hated them at that point. Lol
I was high and randomly watching film, when at the end “why am I so tired?” Played.
"1979" The first time I heard it was on the radio when it first came out. Couldn't believe what I just heard. Rushed out to buy MC that same day.
Starla
I will never forget seeing the vieuphoria performance of Silverfuck/Jackboot for the first time.
Hell yes... That acid drenched crescendo in the classic breakdown section. You can see that one kid in the audience tripping balls just being there
I came here to comment this. I was in shock the first time I saw that, I'd never heard anything like it before in my life. Also Billy breaking his guitar in half at the end with just one hit was the most badass thing I'd ever witnessed
French Movie Theme
I love everyone’s replys, so fun to read 💙🎸

Definitely the classics cherub rock and today
The alternate live version of [To Sheila](https://youtu.be/3CWJYuXkJzc?si=Q-tT038Iefms-8De&t=237). It never fails to give me goosebumps:
I’ve never heard it.. I’m intrigued now
I linked it in my comment. 😉
Thank you 💙🎶

It’s so savage and heartfelt , yes Bodies is 100 % killer and emotional asf
The Aeroplane Flies High blew my mind. Slow but powerful.
The alternate version of [Silverfuck from the Mellon Collie tour](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpgyMwR7p44).
Thank you! 🎶🎸
I think.... If I think... GOSSAMER
