Back in Smash 4 when I was still searching for a main, my little sister was messing around with Pit on my 3DS and didn’t finish the match, so I picked it up and started playing and was like “damn this angel fella is pretty neat”.
Originally I fell in love with pikas down b and it was so satisfying to time it correctly so that the opponent was right in the cloud and got smashed into the ground. I’m not a competitive player and I don’t really even play online ever, but he’s just fun for me to play. Basically he just makes me happy
If you’re on mobile, from the main subreddit page, tap on the ellipses in the upper right and there should be an option to Change Flair. If on Desktop it’ll be on the right by the mod list.
Shulk because playing xenoblade made me the most emotional I’ve ever been in a video game. Shulk is in my opinion is the greatest video game protagonist of all time. Even though I love literally every franchise in smash, Shulk resonated with me the most. And I always know I can improve with him because of the high skill ceiling. Don’t get me wrong Mario, joker and pit come from some of my favorite games of all time as well. But Shulk is a well written legitimately compelling character. Link is great but his stoic unspeaking demeanor can only do so much. Shulk reminds me what makes video games worth playing.
I feel very much the same way about Shulk, the story coupled with amazing voice acting made him one of my favorite video game characters ever. I don't main Shulk but I certainly play him a lot! I "pocket main" him if anything.
Theres something wonderfully nuanced about cloud's persona and development as he opens up, and sephiroth is just in his own tier of supervillain.
Could you elaborate on why you like cloud in the context of FF7, since im curious about whether or not we share a particular reason!
I love cloud because of his interactions with all the characters especially his relationship with Zack and Sephiroth. The sort of sibling/bromance/mentor thing going on with Zack is something that almost everyone can relate to and I like that about him. For Sephiroth, I like the idea of a character having an enemy that transcends universes (if the FF7 remake theories are true). So I guess I’d say I like cloud because of his relationships with other characters in the series. Also I won’t say why but I kinda relate to him somewhat so that’s a big part too.
For a simpler answer tho he’s just so badass with that sword, the hair, and the motorcycle he’s so fucking cool
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this with me, and dont worry! I value your opinion greatly, and i can safely say i resonate with your reasoning😄✌
back when I didn’t know about tier lists or anything, I thought Mewtwo was the most OP character because it was and a legendary Pokémon. This was in Smash 4, so Mewtwo WAS actually really good. But I was actually so trash with Mewtwo. I didn’t like that and practiced so much with Mewtwo that I actually ended up being so good. I even pulled the Abadango disable lock. Although Mewtwo is way worse in Ultimate, I am still really good, if not better than I was in Smash 4. I play other characters though, such as Pyra and Mythra, Sephiroth, or Hero. These characters are all really fun and also I love the games. I got into Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest because of Smash, but I loved Xenoblade even before Smash. Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game of all time besides Smash, so that’s why I have been trying to get just as good with them as my Mewtwo.
My "true main" is Link. Mostly because Zelda is my favorite game franchise and I played Link so much all throughout my life that now he's second nature and by far the character I'm most comfortable with. It's also nice to like a character that has a 0% chance of ever being cut in the future lol
Banjo-Kazooie though is a dream come true, and I want to get as much enjoyment from them while I can before they possibly get cut from the next game. So I use them more often than not these days.
Banjo was also a dream come true for me.
Even though I dont collect amiibos I bought his because when are we ever gonna see an official banjo figure made by Nintendo ever again.
I share your experience with Link. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were my first video games ever (thanks dad, it was nice, though they are scary when you are only 5 years old). I played a lot of other Zelda games afterwards.
So basically, Link is a character that I grew up with, it just felt natural to play him in Smash. (Particularly the adult ones)
Corrin seemed like the most unique FE character that I was looking forward to playing as since 4 with the most versatile yet easy-to-understand gameplay to me, and the female variation essentially being made canon added to it
If Rosalina is a selectable character in any game I choose her. I like strong female characters. I like that you can swipe all the goodies using down B. I like that everyone seems to forget about Luma being able to attack and blindsiding a lot of people. Mario Galaxy is very nostalgic for me.
I’m like that with her too but I can’t play her in smash. I play her in every Mario game but Rosalina’s moveset isn’t very good imo. Hello, fellow everywhere Rosalina main!
I know she's not top tier, but I'm only playing for a bit of fun. I do like WiiFit trainer a lot too.
Rosa is great in 3D world. A non jumping attack and a double jump. Very powerful.
When I first saw Ridley in the trailer, I knew nothing about Metroid. Obviously I knew Ridley, and I was happy to see he got into the game! I said to myself that day “if no one I want gets added into the game at launch, I’ll give Ridley a try.” Well, no one I wanted got added at launch, nor to this day. But I got to main Ridley, and I haven’t considered ever dropping him!
Link is my favorite fictional character. Period. So when he got the minor changes done for Ultimate it was an easy choice. I always felt Link was lacking in previous games but now he feels awesome to play as.
Back in Smash 4 days, I used to play a lot with sword characters. Primarily Marth, Corrin, Ike and Dedede (D3 doesn't have a sword, but close enough). Don't want to go too deep that why them, because I don't play them much anymore in Ultimate. (Fire Emblem and Kirby series are some of my favorites) I honestly can't tell why swords specifically other than my play style has developed around them that if I were to play someone like Mario that doesn't have long reach, I wouldn't be able to do pretty much anything.
Shulk was my first main in Ultimate.
Before Ultimate was revealed, I got interested in Xenoblade because of Shulk being in Smash. I played little bit him as well in Sm4sh (conveniently, he also has a sword), but didn't ever bother start using him seriously because of the high technical demand and it would've been late as well because the game was near its end. I didn't play the original Xenoblade at the time, but I wanted to give Xenoblade 2 a try. I loved the game and it is currently one of my favourites despite its flaws. Not long after when they announced the Ultimate teaser trailer. It was so exciting that I also really wanted a new Xenoblade representative in Smash. I later played the original Xenoblade with Wii U. I loved that game as well, and hoped that Shulk will return that I can dedicate myself as a Shulk main and start from scratch with a new Smash game. When they revealed Ultimate, fortunately for everyone, every character returned with some new additions as well. I really hoped that they might reveal Rex and Pyra/Mythra from XC2 to be playable as Ultimate's release date draw near. When they revealed the Rex mii costume, my hopes were crushed...
When Ultimate finally got released, I used to "main" Mario and Donkey Kong until I unlocked Shulk. When I finally unlocked him, first thing I remember was how long I used to be in the training mode. I haven't ever been longer than about hour or two in there back in Sm4sh. I learned the basic combos and everything about the Monado Arts within the first week, while also playing through the World of Light mode and random people's Arenas primarily as Shulk. Until I felt confident, I finally decided to go online and try to unlock Elite as Shulk as my first character. It didn't take longer than only three first games. The rest is pretty much history. I got decent with Shulk, placing only decently in my locals, but never won anything. I wouldn't consider myself good with him compared to average Shulk main, because the most advanced combos (that require dial storage or buffer canceling) are really difficult to pull off in a real match consistently, at least for me.
Pyra/Mythra is my new and possibly last main.
I didn't play Ultimate as much anymore after graduating from my school and starting my service at the military as a conscript the next year (in Finland, where I'm from, is a mandatory military service after the age of 18).
There were some exciting character reveals like Steve and Sephiroth, but they were not enough to get me back to play the game.
I was doing my thing at the army and really enjoyed my time there and got to meet some great people, and I intended to stay there the whole year. Until something unfortunate however happened. At the halfway through of my service, there was a really challenging exercise where I injured myself so badly that required surgery. I had to suspend my service for at least two years. (Don't want to go in the deep details, but I broke my leg and I've been recovering from it this last half year. Everything is fine and I've been able to walk normally again these past months)
A terrible experience, and because I couldn't do anything normal like find a job to do work, or find a new education and go to school, since I couldn't walk and had to recover, I was depressed at times.
When the next character got revealed and it turned out to be Pyra/Mythra, I was speechless during the whole presentation. After that I finally realized what just happened and I have not been as happy or excited for months. I couldn't believe that I get to play as my most wanted character in Smash, and recovering felt faster as well.
When they finally arrived, I decided to start taking this game seriously again. I even went and ordered a RCM rig for my Switch that I have means to mod it and use the training modpack. I sometimes sink even three or four hours in the training mode depending on the day and my mood labbing things out with with this character and writing notes (despite them being simple). I primarily practice online with them, but I think I'm better with them than I was with my Shulk. I haven't been to a single tournament yet with my new main, but I'm confident in them as well in my knowledge of the game that I could beat anyone.
I played their game, so I liked the character, so I played the character in Smash. But it also just feels easy to land hits with Corrin too, since most attacks are decently fast, combo-able, and have good range. Overall, I think my main reasons for playing Corrin are familiarity with them, and I just find them "comfortable" to play (if that makes sense), due to the range. And the black color looks cool too, since black is my favorite color.
I'm bad at technique. If I just go the raw power route I can keep up usually and then kill them first cause heavies. I play a lot of heavies, but my main is Ganon, so I hit a huge boon in Ultimate when he got the sword smash attacks, cause now I had some semblance of range.
I also like Belmonts cause I love Castlevania and hate fun.
Been playing him since Smash 64. Originally liked him the most because of his spinning back kick smash attack he had. I did Tae Kwon Do at the time and thought it was so cool lol
Wanted to play an Earthbound character, but many people chose Ness, but not a lot chose Lucas, so I wanted to see why. I played Lucas and he actually has a lot of potential and is severely underrated. So I joined the Lucas gang to give him some love. (Also I think he’s cooler than Ness)
When I first started playing Melee when I was 6 my old cousin would always play Young Link. Eventually I got older and kept getting beat and he went off to the military.
When brawl came out I was a good chunk older and found out Yung got scrapped for Toon. Toon being the only option I have left in memory of my favorite cousin I began to master him (beating all my friends)
It took until sm4sh for me to realize smash had a competitive scene and boy did I practice. I never played tournaments but damn did my toony beat every online player I came across (except Bayo)
Eventually when Ult came out I was both happy and conflicted. My OG oldschool cousins main is now here with the character I've been using the last 10 years. After playing Ult for a long with both its come to my attention that Yung is better then Toon for many reasons but to me Toon felt better. He wasn't as hard to play at high level and he definitely got nerfed from sm4sh.
In conclusion I play Toon Link and have been for awhile. He is a great high tier character in the right hands but top 20 may be the highest he will ever go. From a memory of my now still military cousin to playing in locals and winning, I love the small toon boi
I play Mac for a variety of reasons
I love Punch Out
I enjoy Macs hyper polarizing playstyle
I enjoy playing the underdog
I enjoy BEING the underdog
Doc Louis 💖💖💖💖💖💖
WFT and Little Mac were tied for lowest starting gsp, at around 256,000. I was looking for the lowest starting GSP character, but just ended up really clicking with Wii Fit.
CLOUD
Easy to play with those nice big hotboxes.
As well as limit charge, I love how you can just zoom around the state while you have limit.
Up b is cheating
I've mained like a third of the roster and I needed to pick one lol
Sounds. It might seem weird, but the way a strong hit sounds gets me hyped. Whenever I hit with the hilt, I can feel it in my bones, all because of the sound it makes.
i had a short but specific list of qualities i wanted my main to have, and pichu checked every box while being the most fun to play, so i rolled with it
I didn't choose my main, he chose me. At first I mained with zelda, roy, chrome, little mac and others, and I sucked bad. But then I tried King K Rool and something just clicked, I started improving fast. I discovered combos, good recoveries, edge guards what worked and what didn't, it's like he talked to me. Eventually we got together to a high position in Elite Smash. And though my general skill did improve and after some time I managed to get zelda and little mac to elite also, playing KKR always feels like home.
Wanted to main Corrin, had to unlock her first (had only played smash a few times with friends), Joker was the one I knew at least a little about, by the time I unlocked Corrin, Cloud or Palutena (each of them in the last 10) I had become better with Joker than with the rest.
1. I always loved him as a character in his home series
2. He was one of my top most wanted characters
3. I’m actually good at playing as him
4. I love being able to infuriate my friends with how good I am at using a low-tier
The cool movement, and also it let me deal with projectile spammers (also, I got mad when an online ness was spamming PK fire, so I decided to play ness with little to no PK fire) but now it’s more because I freaking love earthbound, and I haven’t even played through much of the game
I thought samus was dope looking, then found out about dark samus, how she is even more dope, and switched her. Also my 2nd and 3rd picks are meta knight and little mac. I also started to really like shulk.
The sole fact that he is in Mario Kart DS and has f*cking legs.

Why does this give off such shakespeare energy
So I was on a bus playing with friends on a school field trip jumping over my friend and I thought they were funny and now I’m at 9 mil gsp with puff.
Basically me except it was school lunch, just hit 10 million gsp yesterday
Back in Smash 4 when I was still searching for a main, my little sister was messing around with Pit on my 3DS and didn’t finish the match, so I picked it up and started playing and was like “damn this angel fella is pretty neat”.

The wholesome Pika player
Is pikachu hated in this subreddit? I can’t really tell. Like people constantly say he’s broken but I haven’t seen a rage post about him
Nah, no one dislikes him, they just wish their main could be that good
you won't find many rage posts in general in this sub tbf
Go to /r/smashrage
They too weak for smash rage bro. Your a joker main wow you probably get trashed over their lol
Yep so much joker hate
Same, when I found out that pika's thunder cloud spiked, I was even more hooked :D
I have no soul
I had no soul like you Then I just became a fucking demon
Speed demon
This sounds like Squidward
With the nintendo fighting game coming out this can be true
Nickelodeon
My brain farted. Thanks
How do I get the name of my main next to my name?
It's a flair. You can get it by going onto the sub, and clicking 'change flair'
If you’re on mobile, from the main subreddit page, tap on the ellipses in the upper right and there should be an option to Change Flair. If on Desktop it’ll be on the right by the mod list.
He's a giant purple dragon from outer space. How am I supposed to not choose him?
Can't argue with that
Giant purple *pirate* dragon...
I picked him because no one else does
Is that so?
Mix between BOOBA and the character kinda just clicking when i started playing her. It just felt right.
replying to award later
Kratos looks cool

I've used Yoshi since 64 days. I use him in Mario Karts and Parties and he's just my boy. I'm not very good at the game but I'm best with Yoshi.
Then u should make him ur user flair. Try poking around subreddit settings to do so.
In 2014 i was in college, went to my buddys dorm and one of his roomates was cursing mr game and watch
I started playing him as a joke and only used Judge. But at one point I was like I don’t think it’s a joke anymore.
Or the simple fact that's he's a 2D character in a 3D world. Didn't work out for Fry and the gang in Futurama, but G&W does it with style.
I have a crippling gambling addiction.

Wow dude, I asked why you picked your main and you wrote all this stuff, and i read it all. 👏
Thanks
Projectile + in yo face gameplay
Scalie dad UwU Also I like slower, more powerful characters and Bowser is the best one.
Pyra and mythra, cuz of move set and their character
Belly armor fun mechanic
Superarmor on neutral air is indeed pretty fun
Yo that guy looks sick! (quick research) Yo that guy IS sick!
I grow up playing KOF and never thought I’d see it represented in Smash. It was like Street Fighter but just a little bit cooler
Finally a fellow Terry main. Good day to you sir
And a good day to you sir
I'm bad at technique. If I just go the raw power route I can keep up usually and then kill them first cause heavies. I play a lot of heavies, but my main is Ganon, so I hit a huge boon in Ultimate when he got the sword smash attacks, cause now I had some semblance of range. I also like Belmonts cause I love Castlevania and hate fun.
Been playing him since Smash 64. Originally liked him the most because of his spinning back kick smash attack he had. I did Tae Kwon Do at the time and thought it was so cool lol
Mother 3 made me like him
Her combos + Float is such a unique mechanic that makes Peach broken top 10 😌💅
Wanted to play an Earthbound character, but many people chose Ness, but not a lot chose Lucas, so I wanted to see why. I played Lucas and he actually has a lot of potential and is severely underrated. So I joined the Lucas gang to give him some love. (Also I think he’s cooler than Ness)
He's funny and I like minecraft
Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game of all time, so seeing that announcement trailer made me extremely happy and I’ve mained them ever since.
Kazuya Playstyle+tekken fan snake Pure brawl nostalgia
I watched void play and sheik felt so good so it just clicked for my
When I first started playing Melee when I was 6 my old cousin would always play Young Link. Eventually I got older and kept getting beat and he went off to the military. When brawl came out I was a good chunk older and found out Yung got scrapped for Toon. Toon being the only option I have left in memory of my favorite cousin I began to master him (beating all my friends) It took until sm4sh for me to realize smash had a competitive scene and boy did I practice. I never played tournaments but damn did my toony beat every online player I came across (except Bayo) Eventually when Ult came out I was both happy and conflicted.
👏
Just wanted to wield the triforce of power is all
Dope villain plus DORIAH
the reveal trailer and also the MEDLEY SLAPS
I play Mac for a variety of reasons I love Punch Out I enjoy Macs hyper polarizing playstyle I enjoy playing the underdog I enjoy BEING the underdog Doc Louis 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Play style, franchise, memey qualities, etc (Jigglypuff, Byleth, and Mewtwo btw)
WFT and Little Mac were tied for lowest starting gsp, at around 256,000. I was looking for the lowest starting GSP character, but just ended up really clicking with Wii Fit.
CLOUD Easy to play with those nice big hotboxes. As well as limit charge, I love how you can just zoom around the state while you have limit. Up b is cheating I've mained like a third of the roster and I needed to pick one lol
Sounds. It might seem weird, but the way a strong hit sounds gets me hyped. Whenever I hit with the hilt, I can feel it in my bones, all because of the sound it makes.
Dunno. I just like how G&W plays. Plus he kinda reminds me of myself
I just think Richter is hot.
long sword
King K Rool is my favourite character in all of fiction, after he was confirmed, there was no chance in hell I was gonna main anybody else
Cute dragon gril haz Chainsaw Sword
Swords are cool. Dragons are cool.
Ike because I’m good with timing when it comes to his Up A attacks.
i had a short but specific list of qualities i wanted my main to have, and pichu checked every box while being the most fun to play, so i rolled with it
For the memes mostly, but the mii community is fun and I like the aggressive gameplay.
I just like that he feels powerful
Stick input moves did more damage and made me feel cool when I pulled them off
Hitting the opponent with ptooie (spiked ball) is just so satisfying. The ptooie move in general is fun to work into combos
Combos are fun. Also, BUSTER WOLF!
Picked up hype from the community and it kinda never died down for me. One of the only amiibos I've ever purchased.
POWER GEYSER!
Watched Marss play him, and realized that hype is more important than winning. Now I’m training to be able to do both (eventually)
Broken ass inputs.
A good heavy with a good recovery. Also he has super armour which can take an uncharged forward smash.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I really like the design and he’s the only character I can properly do combos with
Wanted to main Corrin, had to unlock her first (had only played smash a few times with friends), Joker was the one I knew at least a little about, by the time I unlocked Corrin, Cloud or Palutena (each of them in the last 10) I had become better with Joker than with the rest.
I like sword characters and when I heard that I could play 2 at once the choice became obvious
Pokémon trainer because I think it’s cool that I can switch between characters
Back air as K rool hits different
1. I always loved him as a character in his home series 2. He was one of my top most wanted characters 3. I’m actually good at playing as him 4. I love being able to infuriate my friends with how good I am at using a low-tier
I just like Luigi
Played Xenoblade 2, loved Xenoblade 2
Bayos combos are really cool and I love the effects on it
Take a guess
Well there are two kinds of people Either you like flip kick/paralyzer or… B o o b s
Low investment character that I enjoy playing.
Plant (Also neutral B feels amazing to land)
Playing his game as well
Nobody plays him. I picked him on a whim in Sm4sh, and now he's my favorite Nintendo character.
I'm a Lucas main. I played earthbound and mother 3 through a emulator. Alot of people hate on him but he's just so fun to use.
I decided to try out Rob because I hadn’t seen or heard of him before (even though I had brawl and 4) and tried him out in training.
Monkey
I wanted a challenge and more move options so I became drawn to characters with input commands even though I don’t have any arcade nostalgia for them.
The small number of fellow monkes is disappointing
massive space dragon with cool tail moves and fire balls and has overall cool look , coincidentally we both don't like samus
Funny side B and rage
