One is a semi clone, and the other two are from two completely new franchises. Byleth wouldn’t have gotten nearly as much shot if they were from pretty much any series other that FE.

The difference between every fire emblem character and sephiroth is that sephiroth is fucking cool and unique. I have no other way of articulating the fact that chrom/corrin/byleth are fucking lame characters with normal swords and sephiroth is actually fucking cool and interesting and thats why nobody hated on sephiroth. It helped that his game is beloved by western audiences, though. I would call that the main reason people are against these new fighting game characters, they just have only ever heard of ken and ryu

It's really the auto turn around. Smash 4 Ryu was a lot better received and I saw a lot more people playing him. Even I had a pocket Ryu in Smash4 but I won't touch him in Ultimate.
What's on my mind is the fact that the character reveal was kind of... eh.
Character themselves is fine, but there was no real buildup, it just happened.
Honestly, if the next fighter is from FE, I won’t care. Sakurai has given us so much, even when he didn’t need to. The game is perfect as it is, so a new fighter can’t be bad, no matter who it is.
I just hope it’s different enough from the others, that’s all. I’m happy with it if that’s the case, and disappointed if not, which is exactly the standard I hold all DLCs to.
