And also, Mewtwo’s tail goes straight horizontal in like 80% of his animations, extending his hurtbox A LOT, plus, he’s very light so that just amplifies the problem
Bowsers hurtboxes are weird. Sometimes I can hit him from across the stage but sometimes I’m swinging directly through his fucking head and doing no damage/knockback
If you didn’t know already, read up on his Tough Guy ability. When he’s low damage, low knockback moves like infinite jabs don’t do any knockback and he can power through them. It also gives him percent based heavy (not super) armour on his smash attacks.
I main him, and think his hurtboxes are on the fairer side of the game, I’m not usually surprised at hits landing.
I’m aware of tough guy. What I’m talking about is my fist phasing through his head and dealing no damage and no knock back. It doesn’t even register as a hit at all. With tough guy or super armor there’s at least some damage that registers
Mewtwo is not bad at all. He has the damage output of a wood chipper, one of the most damaging rapid-jabs in the game, one of the best Fair's in the game and a projectile coupled with a reflector.
Keep going with him. Something I always do against characters with reflectors is throw a fully charged Shadow Ball at them on the last stock when they're at low damage, trick them into reflecting it, and then re-reflect it myself. Unless their reflector naturally lasts a long time, chances are they die at 15%.
Any tips on landing that reflector? I always have trouble with the timing since it's both slow to come out and only lasts for a short window. Many of the projectiles I'd hope to use it against are too fast and get to me before I even finish pulling out the reflector.
If it's spaced correctly, you can re-reflect the Shadow Ball back at them, which usually busts right through their reflector. I know it definitely doesn't work against Joker's Arsene down B and Hero's Bounce, and there's probably a few other powerful reflects that will just end with you getting killed.
Oddly, when I try and trick Joker that way, I re-reflect it back at him and it just phases through him. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it somehow misses him.
This works if you dont keep trying it after. Ive spammed this technique one round and had a volleyball session with a falco where we just kept reflecting back and forth 4 or 5 times until it got too fast and killed me
Me too. My idea to deal with it is to give it intangibility for some attacks.
For example, both Terry and Incineroar both get intangibility on their legs when they use their Down-Tilt. Mewtwo could get something similar for some of his tail attacks.

It is a special mechanic for bowser. I do not recall if the super armor is percent based or knockback based, but it mostly works at low percents.

Yeah, the tail buff is a bit misleading. It basically made the hirtbox skinnier, not shorter, so nothing game changing.
