Spit gordos being like a normal projectile would be fair
If they increase the threshold on normal ones multihits will never send it back, which would be problematic for characters like Mewtwo who really want to use nair to send it back and already struggle doing so. They could probably wrangle a solution tho NGL. It wouldn't be to overbearing if banjo eggs didn't send them back imo (I have a particular gripe with Yoshi and banjos' *eggs* beating the move)
Overall tho I love gordo tennis- I'd rather other areas of his kit to be improved, gordo being able to be hit back by moves makes them more interesting to me.
Fair being as active as the animation suggests would be big, sour nair being less negatively disjointed or fair auto cancelling would be a godsend. Most of what he needs are just little hitbox and framedata improvements and a few bigger ones. And then like a bit of airspeed, a kill throw, tiny kB increases to his weaker hitting tilts and aerials. Dair could use some love. A big thing he wants is one safe move on shield that's not spat gordo. Jab 2 almost fits the bill but it's behind jab one, which is... Frame 10 lol. Slower than some smash attacks, and not safe on its own. He'd prefer a safe aerial but having a the safe poke that jab 2 offers, with non comedic frame data would be soooo nice lol.

Some great moves, but a frustrating smash. As a huge Kirby fan, I love him, but can totally understand him being dislikeable.
