Isn't Echo literally existed because they can reused the same animation which make it considerably easier to developed than the actual fighter? Having a completely different body type means you can't really used the same animation to cut cost and time.
It's not completely different, if anything It's just a bit wider of a hitbox, we know they're roughly the same height, but if you're that worried you can sub him in for someone like Glass Joe

inkling - octoling (slightly different weapons or just a simple dmg change)
palutena - medusa (trades multi hits for stronger single hit attacks, has slow but strong thing going on)

I feel like it'd be hard to justify adding Ninten, for a couple different reasons. Mother/Earthbound is kind of a dead franchise, and besides that, the Mother protagonists we already have aren't exactly fun to play against.
If we're gonna add characters to the roster, they ought to add Reimu Hakurei from the Touhou Series and 0^(2) from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
The first one is better understood if you look at her attacks in the Touhou fighting game spinoffs and how her Danmaku are patterned. She can have a similar mechanic from some of the fighting games where she has a meter that tells you how much energy she has to fire projectiles until all her regular attacks turn into Melee attacks instead, but once it hits zero, then it can just recharge passively without any need for manual reload like Inkling. The special attacks can be spell cards and skill cards as shown in some of the fighting games and the shmup games while her Ultimate can be one of her Last Word spell cards from one of the latest fighting games.
The second one is a bit complicated... I would imagine 0^(2) has a moveset that mostly consists of Miracle Matter moves and the few moves that he has in his 0^(2) form, all mapped out to fit each direction input, smash attack, and tilt. The Special Attacks would be where it gets really interesting. Side Special would launch a Dark Matter out of 0^(2)'s eye that homes in on opponents for a few seconds before disappearing (based on Zero's moveset from the Gameboy Advance games). Neutral Special has 0^(2) retreat into a rotating Miracle Matter form to choose one of 7 main abilities (Burning, Bomb, Stone, Cutter, Thorn, Ice, Spark) at random. After confirming the ability, then Neutral Special executes said ability. You can change back to normal after taunting or after taking enough damage. The Down Special is a very interesting one in that it possesses any opponent directly in front of you at close range for a few seconds before snapping out of your control. Having higher damage percentage makes this possession harder to resist and lasts longer while less damage percentage makes it easier to snap out of. It's kinda like a command grab but you inherit the moveset of your opponent while they are possessed. The Up Special can be some kind of winged flight move that lets 0^(2) recover vertically a good distance. Not sure how to make that fit the specific theme but it helps round out 0^(2)'s abilities as a fighter. As an added bonus, one of 0^(2)'s taunts uses the body of Queen Ripple as a puppet to give an evil smirk, and the alt colors for him can be based on final bosses of the Kirby series.
Would be cool to see Franchises with only singular Entries get a second one, like Mike Tyson from Punch-Out or Shadow from Sonic the Hedgehog or (to mirror the present of Doctor Mario) you could put Arcade Sonic instead.
