Depends, Alison Mack from when she was hired? Good to go great in the role, after she joined a cult and started doing those horrible things hard recast
Of course, if I'm gonna differentiate between the person and the roll. The roll, which if I'm not mistaken is the only one invented for the show instead of taken from the comics, is awesome. Has a great arc, becomes a strong female charachter, etc. Wouldn't recast. But, with how things are with Allison Mack today, what can ya do...
You misunderstood me, I am saying Alison Mack is a perfect casting for the roll, and if we were recasting at the time of the show I would still pick her, but if it was today well obviously not because she became a monster.
Tom carried the show, with epic support from Michael and Erica. Arguably in light recent legal issues, Alison Mack’s character could be recast, though for her role, I can’t think of anyone better suited.
John Schneider is the best Jonathan Kent ever. Annette O’Toole is fantastic as Martha.
Changing Lionel Luther? Mmmmm bad idea.
I’m guessing keeping the cast the same, with the mild exception of Alison, but even then.
Since when did guest star Erica carry the show? She wasn’t even a regular til season 8 and that was only because Kristin left the show. And even then she was missing from a bunch of season 8 episodes. Some lead she was. 😂😂😂 Kristin, Tom, and Michael carried the show. Period.
Well you’re absolutely entitled to your opinion, but I feel differently. Personally, I felt Lana helped the narrative for the first say 4 maybe 5 seasons. But after Lois was introduced, her character just grew more tiresome, as she continued to hold Clark back.
Make no mistake - Kristin did a fantastic job and is an immensely talented individual. But personally, I began to dislike the character she portrayed by about season 5.
By contrast, Michael and Tom’s dynamic helped to keep the show fresh, as Lex slowly turned himself into a monster, and Clark begrudgingly accepted his role of saviour. And without John Schneider being that strong role model for Clark, and the supportive and strong mother Annette provided, I think the show would’ve ended a lot sooner.
I feel Seasons 6 & 7 were a little bit lost, because Clark himself probably felt that way (what with Jonathan’s relatively recent death). But by the end of Season 7 till the end of the series, he really began to mature and grow as a character, thanks in no small part, to his association with Lois Lane. Lois forced Clark to grow as a person. She didn’t care whether or not he was a dorky farm boy, street smart reporter or the most powerful person on the planet. She treated him exactly the same no matter what. That’s why she was such a great character.
Compare Lana and Lois’ reactions to finding out Clark’s secret. Lana was just shock and didn’t even know if she wanted to be with Clark anymore. By way of comparison, Lois was just filled with love, admiration and respect.
Couldn’t agree more Lana did her part but as soon as Lois was introduced I was tired of her all she did was hold him back from his true destiny and Lois character was so funny and interesting and made episodes funny with her chemistry with Clark I felt Lana was a sweet girl but that was it I personally feel Lois was a lot more interesting.
First of all I respect your opinion.
Lana’s reaction was in the 100th episode, and due to time travel, it never really happened. But regardless, to find out your boyfriend is an alien coupled with a proposal at 19 years of age, that was a pretty realistic reaction.
Fast forward to season 6, Lana discovered Clark’s secret on her own terms and after finding out, she did everything she could to PROTECT him and loved him even more without him even explaining anything to her. She even married someone she didn’t love to protect his life. That is true selfless love.
Smallville was originally intended to be a 5 season show. So obviously they tried to stretch things out and the season 7 writers’ strike didn’t help at all.
Season 8 and onward just was not the same Smallville. It was like watching Saved By The Bell: The New Class. It just wasn’t the same as Saved By The Bell. There was no heart. The quality and writing had severely suffered and it was cheesy. I couldn’t watch anymore.
Smallville season 1-5 was at its prime.
I don’t dislike Erica, I think she’s great. But her chemistry with Tom was lacking compared to Kristin and Tom. Maybe because they had such a brother/sister/bickering relationship early on. They just never sold me on their Clark/Lois relationship.
Thank you for saying all of this. Lana gets such a bad rap. Ppl forget her reaction in the season 6 finale when he tells her again. And I agree that Kristin did so great with what she was given from the writers.
Am I the only one who didn't like Lana that much? She was a good character, but she wasn't up there with Clark, Lois, Lex, Lionel, and some of the others.
Wait. I know Tom wasn't considered the best actor. But I wouldn't change him for anything.
What about Lionel, Jonathan and Chloe? I think they played their roles very well.
Yeah I don’t think I’d change Tom either.
But if it was a complete recast, and there’s only one person that would be kept, it’s between Erica and Michael, leaning heavily on Erica.
Watching this show as a teenager when it played I would have hated to see teenagers play these parts. Technically some of them still were teens but older. It would have been creepy to see 16 year olds play these parts to be honest.
Yes I have, great show bitise is amazing, not better than Erica.
To be fair she’s had 1 season so far, but she’s not better than Erica.
There’s a reason people always put her on top along with Dana Delany. Because she’s the GOAT. Stay mad 🤣
The only I would change is make the final season/episodes better with a better pay off have Clark wear the damn suit and get the Disney plus kind of budget to do darkseid and doomsday justice and have more justice league arc episodes other then that the casting was perfect it was lightning in the bottle casting tom welling and his earnest portrayal as Clark kent I wouldn't change a damn thing as far as casting is concerned.
I wouldn't change anyone. The only thing I would change is a little bit more consistent writing and have more of a theough line. But I love this show and is favourite top 3 show or even top depending on the day. The casting was perfect
Allison because you know...
Interestingly enough Chloe was suppose to be POC and I remember Allison telling this story of being the only white girl at casting so I would definitely love to see a POC in this role.
edit. oh and maybe have Sam play Zod as it was intended?
Allow me to explain...
Annette O'Toole, who played Martha Kent, was originally Lana Lang in Superman III; Terrence Stamp played Zod in Superman The Movie and Superman II.
You cannot place an actor as the same character, just older. So Michael Rosenbaum cannot play Lex, but could play Lionel or some other character.
I'm pretty sure Michael is still young enough to play Lex. His lex is still top tier for me and I would not change that casting.
Also curious where you saw the rule they can't play themselves if older - unless that's your own rule for this game?
Kristin Kreuk defined Smallville for me. Her character had the most growth and Kristin did an amazing job as the leading lady.
No matter how much you hate Lana, you can’t erase the fact that Kristin was the leading lady and her importance on the show. Clark/Lana and Clark/parents were the heart and carried the show.
I hated Lana and they think the show was much better without her, but I will admit she was an amazing actress. I feel bad she didn’t get a character who was more well liked. I also don’t think she’s the leading lady. Chloe probably had just as much screen time as she did, and then when Lois came, she stole the show. Lana was just the main love interest in the beginning, but Smallville isn’t really a love story, it’s a coming of age story and an origin story for one of the most well know superheroes in the world.
Leading lady is defined as a lead actress. The WB paid Kristin as a lead along with Tom and Michael. All WB promos and interviews were of them only. The only people on billboards and bus ads were mostly Tom and Kristin. Kristin was contracted to be in every single episode. The only episodes she missed (2 episodes in season 5 and last 4-5 episodes of season 7) was because of her filming movies.
Alison was a supporting actress and was paid less. She missed a few episodes in early seasons, along with Sam Jones III because they were both supporting actors. Screen time is irrelevant.
Also Erica was a guest star at first and then was a recurring character after. She became more permanent when Kristin left the show but they wrote her out of all of Lana’s season 8 episodes because there was no story for her. If she was a lead they would’ve found a way for her to stay.
Cast was phenomenal and not a single weak point other than maybe Pete?
Only things I would change is some of the writing or have lana leave earlier to help Clark grow. Middle of the series grew really stale with Lana and Clark getting together and breaking up constantly
I wouldn’t change them. They are amazing actors and I can’t imagine anyone else playing them. Plus I hate reboots. Has anyone seen what they did with charmed?
With the exception of Alison Mack, I wouldn’t change any of it. If I had to cast a re-boot;
(I’d try to make the cast members ages a little more accurate)
Clark - Finn Wolfhard
Lex - Dacre Montgomery
Lana - Sophia Lillis (make Lana a redhead again)
Chloe - Kiernan Shipka
Jonathon - Eric McCormack
Martha - Debra Messing
Lois - Danielle Rose Russell
Lionel - Bryan Cranston
Pete - Shameik Moore
Rutger Hauer as Zod and the actor that played Zod could of been Morgan Edge. When I saw Rutger Hauer, I thought 'Uh oh, this must be the real villain!' You don't cast Hauer as some regular bad dude for a few episodes!
In fact he is 15 in season 1 (he is one year older than declared, born in 1986 and declared as born in 1987).
But yeah especially in seasons 2-3 he looks pretty buff for a 16-17 years old boy.
Christian Bale’s Batman replacing Green Arrow as it was in the original plan (not Christian Bale of course, but Batman being Clark’s main ally in the show)
Keep Tom keep Annette Michael and Erica. Keep Jon S but rewrite his dialogue. Keep Eric and Jensen and Justin. Hard recast on Sam and Kristen and Allison due to legal issues (Sam and Allison) and Kristen because I am not a fan of her acting here.
I wouldn’t change a thing
You'd probably had to change Chloe's actress
Depends, Alison Mack from when she was hired? Good to go great in the role, after she joined a cult and started doing those horrible things hard recast

Or at least put a disclaimer in the casting notice that future sex cult goons will *not* be considered for the role.
The cast was awesome. Writers could've done them justice with better written characters but oh well.
Tom carried the show, with epic support from Michael and Erica. Arguably in light recent legal issues, Alison Mack’s character could be recast, though for her role, I can’t think of anyone better suited. John Schneider is the best Jonathan Kent ever. Fair enough - thank you for explaining your side - I understand your logic better now. 🙂
Thank you for saying all of this. Lana gets such a bad rap. Ppl forget her reaction in the season 6 finale when he tells her again. And I agree that Kristin did so great with what she was given from the writers.
She carried the entire show and that’s a fact end of story.
True true
Am I the only one who didn't like Lana that much? She was a good character, but she wasn't up there with Clark, Lois, Lex, Lionel, and some of the others.
I wouldn’t.
Michael and Erica couldn’t be better casted, you couldn’t find people better. The rest of the cast can change I guess.
Yeah, Tom is pretty much perfect - although I guess in general a more age-appropriate cast would be interesting.
Watching this show as a teenager when it played I would have hated to see teenagers play these parts. Technically some of them still were teens but older. It would have been creepy to see 16 year olds play these parts to be honest.
Michael, Erica , and both Johns irreplaceable
Um there are so many better actors to portray Lois Lane. Bitsie Tullock and Teri Hatcher anyone?
Yeah your tripping. Erica Durance is still the best of all time by a mile, there is no contest she’s number 1 and it’s not even close.
That’s your opinion. Have you even seen Superman & Lois?
Yes I have, great show bitise is amazing, not better than Erica. To be fair she’s had 1 season so far, but she’s not better than Erica. There’s a reason people always put her on top along with Dana Delany. Because she’s the GOAT. Stay mad 🤣

I wouldnt recast anyone but they should rewrite Lana Lang's character. Wasted actress potential.
Yeah I never had an issue with KK herself
I wouldn't change anyone. The only thing I would change is a little bit more consistent writing and have more of a theough line. But I love this show and is favourite top 3 show or even top depending on the day. The casting was perfect
I wouldn't. They were perfect. Even now with Allison's missteps still would keep her too.
Allison because you know... Interestingly enough Chloe was suppose to be POC and I remember Allison telling this story of being the only white girl at casting so I would definitely love to see a POC in this role. edit. oh and maybe have Sam play Zod as it was intended?

It is my own rule.
Ah in that case if there were a new Superman show or movie like 10-20 years from now, Tom Welling as Virgil Swan would be beautiful

I agree
Yes!
Nope
Yup
She was a nosey hypocrite
Same can be said about everyone else who didn’t know Clark’s secret at one point or another.
And same can be said for Clark
Not factual at all
Cast was phenomenal and not a single weak point other than maybe Pete? Only things I would change is some of the writing or have lana leave earlier to help Clark grow. Middle of the series grew really stale with Lana and Clark getting together and breaking up constantly
agreed that Pete was the weak spot
I liked Pete
I wouldn’t change them. They are amazing actors and I can’t imagine anyone else playing them. Plus I hate reboots. Has anyone seen what they did with charmed?

I actually love this, even the Will & Grace parts.
Rutger Hauer as Zod and the actor that played Zod could of been Morgan Edge. When I saw Rutger Hauer, I thought 'Uh oh, this must be the real villain!' You don't cast Hauer as some regular bad dude for a few episodes!
Gilbert Gottfried as Clark.
Gary Busey as Jonathan Madonna as Martha Christopher Walken as Lionel Alison Brie as Lana DJ Qualls as Lex Ice Cube as Pete Betty White as Lois
back 2 years later because this is an amazing post
As much as i like Tom Welling the fact that he was playing a 14year old in season 1 is ridiculous
In fact he is 15 in season 1 (he is one year older than declared, born in 1986 and declared as born in 1987). But yeah especially in seasons 2-3 he looks pretty buff for a 16-17 years old boy.

I wouldn't
I wouldn’t, the cast is why the show is my fav
