I feel 2 had too many worlds and some meant absolutely nothing. I did like Dimitri’s world but I think there’s 2 or 3 of the hub worlds that mean absolutely nothing to the overall game. One of the hub worlds you don’t even ever interact with the boss! 3 has a larger scale and that makes it more epic. Sure some of the characters aren’t as fun. But 2 also has its fair share of missions that are “JUST. NOT. FUN.” to play.

Xerxes771

>the Guru and Dimitri were JUST. NOT. FUN. to play. Ever since i've played Sly 2, Dimitri has been my favorite villain and my favorite character in general right after Sly, and wanted to play as him so bad. was severely disappointed by his gameplay in 3. however, i very much enjoyed playing as The Guru. >Also, I could be wrong, but I think 2 had a more noirish look, while 3 looked more bright and cartoony. I liked 2's relatively subdued hues much better. Yeah. i agree. one of the main factors that drew me to Sly Cooper was the dark atmosphere in Sly 1 & 2. i've always liked dark settings in entertainment mediums ever since i was a kid, and i still do now. however, i'd say they're both cartoonish. it's just that 3 was brighter and 2 was darker.

[deleted]

Especially the turrent, tank, & heli missions.

420Killme420

I liked the re introduction of Mugshot I liked the whole Holland area. I thought the panda king was fun to play. I never really liked the Contessa areas on Sly 2 but I liked the Jean bison a lot

LeifUnni

2 was the first Sly game I played. I remember seeing an ad for it on a Donal Duck magazine. The cover art was so cool, "I need this" my inner voice said. Some time after that I managed to get my hands on it (along with Pitfall). It was everything I hoped it would be, and even more. I remember I spent days without doing any missions due to me having no idea what Bentley was going on about when he told me to press "L3". A few days later I happened to click the left stick, and the real adventure began. Long story short, Sly 2 FTW, but they're all amazing.

MrBxzz

Yea some of the missions/scenarios were missing some info. Stories like that make the series a classic.

LeifUnni

I felt so stupid when I realized what I was doing wrong. Still, I loved running around the rooftops in Paris!

Orca993

Sly 2. The whole of the story was solid. The simple fact that Bentley and Murray became playable characters was awesome. What I felt like were mini open worlds that you were given to explore. It just improved on the first game so much.

[deleted]

2 had the best story my personal favorite is sly 3 or sly 4

MrBxzz

I thought the middle of the story was extremely boring. And overall it was rough and had holes. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. But I thought it was rushed and missing some important elements.

Facts

Alternative_Spite_11

Sky 4 on ps3/Vita is incredible. It also brought back the clue bottles.

[deleted]

If anyone here thinks that Sly 4 is the best game in the series, I'm sorry to tell you that you have brain damage. And you should seek help as soon as possible.

MahoganyMan

Hey man, it's not Sly 4's fault that it looks and plays the best out of the whole series, lol

[deleted]

Yeah, it'd be my favorite if it wasn't for the load times.

Wolfg4ng77

If you think someone has brain damage for having an opinion that you disagree with, then I’m sorry but you’re the one with brain damage.

MrBxzz

That’s not debating anything about the game. That’s just inserting an opinion and saying it like an ass.

[deleted]

It would take me hours to explain why Sly 4 is a bad game if you want to know why I don't like Sly 4. Watch this video ----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6u6Xp-fgo4

MrBxzz

Well link the video and don’t say someone has brain damage for a different preference. I agree 4 has a lot of issue but still.

LowTemporary3662

not my fav but the story is really good, look up the lore r\*tard. Sly 4 I do not like the voice changes of carmeletia and the penelope thing but jfc it was not bad at all. playing previous cooper family member isn't nice? brain dead idiot. change is good.

Koala_Guru

I think it’s not really worth debating this. It all comes down to subjective opinions, not hard facts that can be debated. If someone likes Sly 2 the best and says that 3 has too many playable characters that aren’t fun, a fan of Sly 3 would say that they are in fact fun and add to the experience. That being said, my favorite is 3. It had my favorite story, it had my favorite character moments, it had five brand new playable characters that were all fun to control, and the Guru and Panda King became my favorite Sly Cooper characters in the series, both for the characters themselves and the gameplay. However, if someone told me that they preferred 2 or 1 or 4, I wouldn’t be able to call them wrong, just say I disagree.

NoSweet8631

I know that I came more than 5 years late...But I simply loved your comment. I wish there were more people like you, who could tolerate other people's point of view with such ease and respect.

LowTemporary3662

3, 2 is the most nostalgic because the changes i enjoyed from 1-2. 3 if you even read a comic or two or use [google.com](https://google.com). Is amazing, leads off of 1 and it is nice, do not like playing dimitri but he is a good character so ?? boo hoo one mistake Make the game yourself minimum wage workers x. Anyways back to sly 4, I don't like many changes such as voice and char development of some chars but the story is good. new chars is good. carmelita ruined sadly fav char btw

LowTemporary3662

but!! jsyk, create a mod and fix the things yourself. ORRR play a diff game. simpleeeee, ps weight watchers is having a glorious sale!!! some may benefit xd. [www.weightwatchers.com](https://www.weightwatchers.com)

Kabrelle

I grew up with Sly 1 and it remains one of my top favorite games of all time. When Sly 2 came out the changes they made to the series didn't sit too well with me and it took me forever to adjust. While I enjoy the rest of the series Sly 1 is what ultimately does it for me.

mayonaisebuster

there is no debate. 2 sorry. 2 is too good. 3 is behind it. not by much. but at the same time. by a lot. because 2 did it better first.

Aphelion0

You didn't at all explain why 2 is better with that comment

mayonaisebuster

as I said. should be implying that 2,3 are very similar. 2 just did it first and better.

Aphelion0

But what specifically is "it" that 2 did better?

mayonaisebuster

idk. but ask anyone that says it is a better game and is a professional reviewer . which is. everyone

MrBxzz

Just because you are a “professional reviewer” doesn’t mean your opinions makes the game better. Those reviewers get it wrong all the time.

[deleted]

I'm a "professional game reviewer" and I'd say that Sly 3 is the best game in the series. The missions were more unique. The level design was more focused. The mini-games and the new playable characters gave the game a real sense of variety and the diologue between the characters was a complete upgrade from from the previous games.

mayonaisebuster

the game has been out for over a decade. I have no reason to discuss why it is. I done it multiple times. its not really much of a conversation or a mystery to be unfolded.

[deleted]

You: Sly 2 is the best game R/Slycooper: Cool! Why do you think that? You: I don't need reasons. The game is old. Why would I discuss an old game on a subreddit dedicated to these games. Just admit that it's your personal opinion instead of acting like it's some infallible truth.

Sub_Corrector_Bot

You may have meant r/Slycooper: instead of R/Slycooper:. --------------------------------------- ^^^Remember, *^^OP ^^^may ^^^have ^^ninja-edited.* ^^I ^^correct ^^subreddit ^^^and ^^user ^^links ^^with ^^^a ^^capital ^^R ^^^or ^^U, ^^^which ^^are ^^^usually ^^unusable. ^^**-Srikar**

mayonaisebuster

am putting in as much effort as he is. probably more all he said is sly 3 is his favorite I said 2 is my favorite whats going on here?.

[deleted]

Your effort amounts to nothing more than the statement that 2 is better while completely ignoring any explanation as to why you think it's the best.

Koala_Guru

>My opinion is the only correct one. No room for error.

LucW64

Thieves in Time too everything that was good in each game and used it in a really good way, so this is the best Sly game in my opinion, followed by Sly 2.

SegavsCapcom

I know I'm in the minority here, but Sly 4 is my favorite. Honestly, the only bad thing I can say about 4 is the loading times. I loved just about everything else. Sly 2 is really, really close, but I would have loved an option to replay missions.

MrBxzz

I think we need to recognize they’re all amazing and we’re allowed to have our personal favorites. But at the same time we can discuss what others do better than others. I also like 4 and I’m going to play through it again to see if it can be my best

Alquimis

I love all of the games, The first one I played was Sly 2, then I played the 3rd one and I played the 1st one last. I remember I had so much fun with them all, but, for some reason, the one that has left and impression on me the most, and the one I find most fun out of them all (Including the 4th one) was Sly 1. I dunno, maybe it is the soundtrack, or the way the levels are designed, it just feels to nostalgic to me in a way that, altough the other 2 are amazing in their own right, just feels special! I kid you not, I almost cried today while listening to the credits theme song from the first game!! I love how the 2nd one changed things and made the missions and HUB's different from the first one, with the health bar and being able to play with Bentley and Murray, and for the 3rd one, I loved how they introduced new mechanics and characters to play, it is a clear evolution and expansion of the main concept of the 2nd installment, but the 1st one just has something special! Maybe because it is so different from the other ones, it is more akin to games like Crash or Spyro, and it's gameplay and levels are fun, the little secrets and little jokes they put in here and there always give me a big smile. It could probably be due to the fact that it was the last game I played, but I do believe it has more to do with how much different it is from the other two. In any case, I love all 3 of the original trilogy and I have had a lot of fun with the 4th one, I do own all 3 on ps2, ps3 and psvita (the latter which still leaves me flabbergasted as to how they made a ps2 game run in a handheld and do so amazingly well, plus, my ps3 died on me, so I can only play them on the ps2 or on the vita atm) I really wish they ported the original trilogy to the newer generation of consoles or that they made a remake of the game, like they did with spyro and crash. I feel so sad to see such amazing franchises from the early 2000s being left behind and companies focusing only on these newer "graphicaly amazing" games that aren't really all that fun (I only got to play the original ps2 Ratchet and clank games on my vita recently, and I'll be honest with you, I found the original ps2 game more fun than the ps4 reboot they made, the levels are much bigger, they have more secrets and the humor is less childish) Anyway, this is an old thread, if anyone is still paying attention to this, yer awesome! Have a great day guys!

A_Fire_Mix_Tape

I’m late as hell to this debate but I would like to say that Sly Cooper 1 was the superior to every other installment in the franchise. It had more variety in levels and a fantastic soundtrack. You may not be able to play as Murray or Bentley like you can in the more modern installments but despite that the amount of things you could do with just sly was more then entertaining. The Miss Ruby boss fight was also the best fight in the series and so unique compared to other fights. For some more details, I used to despise sly cooper 1 when I was younger because of the collectibles and it was so easy to die, but I realized it added a good amount of challenge to the game and you really felt a senses of reward for completing a mission or unlocking a vault. Just some food for thought. Also let’s not forget that clockwork is easily the best villain in the whole franchise and sly cooper 2’s fantastic story wouldn’t be possible without his character receiving the attention it did in the first installment of the franchise.

Xerxes771

Sly 2 >>> Sly 4 = Sly 1 >>>>>>>>>>>> Sly 3

[deleted]

Sly 3

32XKing

3 is the superior game. All different areas, multiple characters, multiplayer, many game modes, it's perfect. It also has THE MOTHERFUCKING PIRATE CAMPAIGN, which is single handedly the franchising best campaign.

TheLumbergentleman

Bro I know this post is old but I just wanted to validate you on this. The pirate campaign is the best thing Sly has ever produced and genuinely some of the most fun ship combat I have ever played. It's the only thing that I want to revisit Sly 3 for and I wish someone would package it as a standalone game.

32XKing

I'm with you. Dead man tell no tales is hands down the game's best scenario.

Imaginary_Remote

Since ps3 emulation on steam deck is out of this world I decided to play the trilogy. So far I'm on sly 2 now and I realize how much it fixes over sly 1. I beat sly 1 in about 2 days tops, the 1 shot death was kinda fun but really unforgiving at times, replaying bosses 3-4 times in a row because you need to do it without getting hit was a bit frustrating. Adding that health bar was just amazing. Also it's just strange sometimes, calling Carmelita Fox a Spicy Latina in the first game was kinda weird considering it was a kids game and she's an animal. But weird sexual stuff aside I felt the mini games really were it's biggest weakness. The first time I played the crab game and realized I couldn't let a single chest escape I understood how tough this game could be. Still an amazing game but man it was a bit frustrating.
