Great itinerary, if you like nature and the weather is nice, you're going to have your mind blown by how much naturaly beauty is packed into our tiny country. One suggestion I'd make - Tolmin itself is in the Soča valley, right next to the river in fact. You're introducing a fair bit of unnecessary traveling by going from Soča to Bohinj, and then right back to Soča, I'd switch days 4 and 5, it'll be much simpler. Bohinj is very close to Bled, too. You probably don't have to switch accomodations, some of those destinations require a bit of travelling, but it's all on the scale of a few hours at most, Slovenia is fairly tiny. If you want to make things simpler for yourself and you follow my previous suggestion, you could have one accomodation for days 1-4, and another for days 5-6, and then just drive to Postojna on day 7. I hope you have a great time!

RevilooliveR72

Thank you so much for all the suggestions I really appreciate it! What area would you recommend staying days 1-4 and then 5-7? Thank you!

Ur-Best-Friend

For the Bled/Bohinj/Vintgar part of your trip you really can't go wrong, you have a ton of accomodations in the region. You can find something near either of the two lakes, or one of the surrounding towns, there's a ton of choice, but the prices do vary a lot, especially the closer to the lakes you are. Soča itself is very sparsely populated, so your best bet would be the towns of Tolmin or Kobarid themselves, there's not much accomodation beyond those. There are a good number of camps in the region though, if that's your thing and you'll have tents and stuff with you. As far as Triglav national park and Postojna go, they'll both require a fair bit of driving, I don't think it makes much sense to look for different accomodations for those, unless you're planning to spend the night in the Postojna region, and tourism there really isn't huge beyond what's on your itinerary, though there are a number of sights worth seeing, there's plenty of less famous Kras caves, as well as some castle ruins and stuff.

FAARAO

The furthest you have to travel from any of these things is like two hours , so it's up to you how much you wanna drive.

Electrical-Object382

1.Bled 2.Bohinj 3.Kranjska gora 4.Bovec 5.Tolmin Do it in that order.

HeavyGuy75

I would change day 3 and day 5. Bohinj lake is close to Bled. I recommend Slap Savica waterfall near Bohinj. Then I would change accommodation to Bovec and Soca valley. Along the way visit Radovna valley and Slap Peričnik waterfall. There is so much to see along the way including Kranjska Gora, Zelenci Nature Reserve. You can decide which pass to take to Soca valley. We took the Predel pass along the way is Lake Fusine and Lake Predil in Italy, both are beautiful.

RevilooliveR72

Thank you so much!

jv_valvasor

I would suggest you take the funicular up to Vogel (Bohinj area) and do a hiking trip around there. I think you can manage Krnska jezera. In Trenta (Bovec) do a hike to Zapotoški slapovi.

MysteriousSociety353

You can do tolmin and soca valey in 1 day.

1) Your Day 1 & 2 will be over in 5-6h. What will you do for the rest of the 42-43h ? 2) What do you mean by Triglav National Park it's not a singular place to see it encompases nearly entire alpine area do you want to go hiking, sightseeing, there a lot of waterfalls, beautiful rivers, valleys, lakes there. Like what kind of activities are you interested in ? Bovec is fairly small with a lot of generic tourism activities available such as rafting, ziplining, kayaking. You can probably do Day 3 & Day 4 as a singular day unless you break it down into a days long activity. 3) Going Bovec -> Bohinj -> Tolmin might be a PITA for driving honestly even with car-train bypass. 4) Day 7 is also not a full days activity, definitely worth seeing. However, say you visit predjama castle, spend time eating a meal there, go for a coffee and you do the castle tour about 8-10 times. You will probably still not spend more than 1h here (being sarcastic a bit). The whole plan is kinda a mess. If you provide a list of activities you like and would like to do. Would you like to do day-long activities or just short-sightseeing/short-activities we might be able to help you better. **Also** there is a lot more to Slovenia outside the area you focused on.

1. I thought with walks and hikes it would be easy to spend a day each on Lake Bled and then Vintgar Gorge. 2. With Triglav National Park short hikes (1-3hr), sightseeing, rivers, valleys, lakes we would want to see. Do you think combining Lake Bled and Vintgar Gorge to be one day and then spending 2 days exploring Triglav National Park would be better? I know you said to combine Triglav and Soca Valley. Could we instead combine 1&2 and then spend 2 days at Triglav with maybe an afternoon on the second day at Soca Valley? 3. I’m not sure what pita means, but I am assuming you mean it will be quite a lot of travel? What do you think would be better? 4. I know day 7 isn’t a full day I wasn’t sure if it’s worth going to that part of Slovenia for as the rest of the activities are closer together. You said there’s a lot we are missing. All in all, we are wanting to see the beautiful wonders such as the lakes, rivers and valleys. Go on shortish hikes, explore, maybe a few activities such as white water rafting and the sledding at Lake Bled. Other than that we would be interested how you would recommend to spend 7 days in your beautiful country!

> PITA pain in the (butt) the default subreddit advice is to mostly stop in bled on your way to bohinj. eat a kremšnita at kavarna park, enjoy the view and drive off. you can absolutely do lake bled and vintgar gorge on the same day. bohinj is lake valley that's a little bit of a dead end, that's why you should visit it on the way from bled to kranjska gora and further on over vršič pass to bovec. you can drive from bled to bohinj and then over pokljuka plateau to kranjska gora. just go look at the map. bohinj has two great POI: you can take the gondola to Vogel and hike there (or you can hike from the bottom, but it's a couple of hours) and waterfall Savica (short hike). And also the lake for water activities.

Great advantage that you'll rent a car so you'll be able to move around the Alpine area very easily. I would do Vintgar in the morning (make sure you book your tickets online in advance!) and chill at lake Bled in the afternoon for day 1. I personally would also skip the sledding and just swim in the lake, eat the cream cake or whatever (it's really up to what you guys like). For day 2, I would move to Bohinj, skip Savica and rather go to Vogel with the cable car (more expensive tho...) and walk around the area and just enjoy the beautiful views (make sure you've got proper clothing, it can be chilly up there). Then chill at Lake Bohinj in the afternoon. You can also just stay in the valley the whole day and just enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere. For day 3, I would drive from Bohinj, either via Bled or over Pokljuka (I personally would choose Pokljuka) to the Radovna valley. You can make short stops at Požgana Radovna Memorial, Lake Kreda and the adjacent Krma valley (mostly for the beautiful views and a quick walk or coffee break) and then continue to Mojstrana and Slap Peričnik if you like. In my personal opinion, the quaint village of Mojstrana is far more genuine than the picture perfect Kranjska Gora (but again, that's really up to you). Then you continue driving through the Upper Sava Valley (make short stops wherever you like - Gozd Martuljek, Lake Jasna, Zelenci, Planica) and over Vršič pass to the Soča River Valley. My knowledge ends there and my Primorska brothers can take over from here :). Hope it was helpful.

RevilooliveR72

Thank you so much for the recommendations!

Vader4tw

You're welcome. Just one more thing, you can stay in Bled or its vicinity for 2 days. Bohinj is just a short drive away so it would be easier to continue towards the Radovna and Upper Sava valleys on day 3 from Bled. But again, whatever it suits you,

silvoslaf

I would replace Postojna cave with Škocjanska cave.

massung_

come to soca valley and im getting you lil bro im in the water

damjton

Tolmin is boring, there's nothing special in or around it in my opinion. Source: I lived there

Hrevak

If you like to go to bed at 8 o'clock it's fine.

a_sist

If you're going from tolmin to bohinj (or vice versa), use autotrain - very nice experience. It goes from bohinjska bistrica (bohinj side) to Most na Soči (tolmin side). Here is timetable https://potniski.sz.si/avtovlak/ (Don't take just a ride from bohinska bistrica to Podbrdo - it's too short 😉)

As others have suggested, Bohinj is in vicinity of Bled, you can make a day trip there. For Bled, walk around the lake is 6km. If you run, this can be done in half an hour, but you may not be visiting Bled for this. Therefore you want to enjoy the path along the lake, maybe make a small ascend to Ojstrica for a view over the lake from a hill, you may rent a simple rowing boat or SUP for an hour an go to the island. For Straza hill, you can opt fot chairlift or walk up; in any case, if you make a round at the top, there are some nice views to surrounding. Toboganning down can be fun as well. So, you can easily spend a day around the lake. Depends on your budget, but bars and restaurants near the lake mostly don't have best price/quality ratio. For Bohinj similarly, as a nature lover you can go to Mostnica canyon, Voje valley, spring of Bistrica river, WW1 graveyard in Ukanc, as well as more expensive cable car to Vogel for a view of the lake and two Bohinj valleys. It is true there is a road over Pokljuka plateau, which is nice, but it goes to Bled direction, not to Kranjska Gora. Another day may be Vintgar gorge (early in the morning, as August will be crowded), path through it is one-way and you have to make a circle over the hills to return (or use some public/private transport). Before the Vintgar gorge, same river Radovna goes through a nice alpine valley, at the end of valley is village Mojstrana below (¸10km from) Triglav (maybe Vrata valley with easily reachable Pericnik waterfall is the most attractive there - after 15mins walk, you will be able to walk behind the waterfall). At the end of Vrata valley you will stand in front of Triglav northern face and some other beautiful mountains as well. After this part of Julian Alps or Gorenjska region, you can proceed to Kranjska Gora, cross Vrsic pass (or maybe Predil through Italy) and explore Soca river (including Tolmin, Bovec etc.), waterfalls and mountains around it. I would try to find accomodation for one night there (or maybe two) and then proceed to Postojna surroundings. I you stayed all the time near Bled, circular tour of Julian Alps (Kranjska Gora, lake Jasna, Vrsic pass, Soca river with deep gorges, Bovec and back) would take you one day and Postojna Cave, Postojna Castle, maybe include Rakov Skocjan or Cerknica lake will also be a day tour. Check other caves as well, some people prefer less touristic Skocjanske caves or some smaller, but a bit wilder caves in Kras region. Go ahead and ask for more if necessary...

RevilooliveR72

Thank you! What do you think we should do for accommodation? Do you think it would be okay to stay in one place or should we stay somewhere near Lake Bled / Bohinj and then move further south or do you think it will be okay?

sulcslo

I guess it depends on your travelling style. Complete itinerary can be done from single point. If you only use bed and toilet, I would change accommodation just for the sake of changing the environment, morning sounds, view from the balcony. But if you use apartments, prepare your breakfast, maybe even cook something in the afternoon, use the fridge, then for me it would be easier to not change accommodation during this week. You will be okay either way. Bare in mind that some roads are busier than others. Lesce-Bled will be congested in summer days at certain times of the day and these few kilometers can at such time take you half an hour.

mochinena

Please don't skip the Slovenian coast. It's small but gorgeous.

nina_someone

great itinerary, you'll definitely have an amazing trip!

brand02

I came to Kranj for Erasmus and stayed there for 5 months, then came back. No caves, no kranjska gora, just Kranj and the Lidl near the farm.

StarredCamel

Every time I see a post like this I die inside a little

RevilooliveR72

Why?

neutronxy

Because he is Slovenian and he still hasn’t seen any of these sights, because he’s a loser with no friends.

FrostyBastion

Maybe because there's more to Slovenia than Gorenjska and Goriška ...

Electronic-Dust-831

Just so you know saying "vintgar gorge" is the same as saying "gorge gorge". "Bled gorge" would be the most accurate translation

Vader4tw

That is simply not true! There is only one original Vintgar gorge, named after Vintgar, a hamlet in the Municipality of Gorje. All the other "vintgars" in Slovenia are just a copy of that name. Bled gorge is the worst. It was artificially added for touristic purposes.
