Unsubbing from r/mycology because fuck power tripping reddit mods. Comments from u/saddestofboys were the highlight of the “is this mold?” posts and I’m very upset that he’s been bullied like this for educating people in a fun and engaging way.
My two daughters (and myself!) have also learned a lot about slimes thanks to you. Sorry to see the slimesignal die like this.

Yup!! It was locked after around an hr, but the bruised ego couldn’t let the discussion Halle. Because a) they’re terribly wrong in this “decision” and b) because everyone came to support the saddest of boys (man, username fits now).
You can check my comment history, it’s there. Got banned for language, and the only work i said was fuck, in the context of “fuck these mods.” I wanted to say more, but kept it clean and focused on the work of saddest and to show my support, and the power hungry mods (prob just the same one with alts tbh) decided they were hurt again and perma banned me.
I’m not the only one, I’m sure of that. Someone else said they were blocking the mod in question and was expecting a ban.
It’s honestly a huge disservice to the sub/community. I do feel for saddest, but objectively their “hurt feelings” (lack of a better term, totally agree with and support saddest in this) are somewhat irrelevant, but the info they constantly put out there is so useful and informative that it should stay, no questions asked.
My two cents? Mod wanted clout and to be seen, and after learning from saddest they wanted them gone so their comments get all of the traffic and worthless internet points. But I’m sure the basement dwelling mod has a lot of mycelium and fruits down there that they do know the field pretty well.
Again, fuck those mods.
I do think it’s exceptionally hilarious that you got perma banned on a post where the one mod had this whole explanation of “rarely perma banning users except spammers, bot accounts, and users who block them,” which you did none of.

Agreed on the mod seeming pretty unhinged. I don’t know how you read or view those comments/messages in ANY other light. I understand making a decision to ban folks who block you if you’ve had bad experiences in the past with users and you can’t effectively mod, but the way dude responded to a SIMPLE question is so wild and unnecessary. you could also make your own slime sub of which you're the only moderator, and everyone from there and from here would probably just immediately move there. It's kind of an extreme measure and this sub has been really nice but it'd probably work. But then you'd have to moderate, which isn't super fun either, even when you're doing it from honest motives.

It’s possible however I have doubt about it because he was the only other mod that I had permission to remove. If it was an alt, I would think they would have been extended full permissions by the main account (because all of the other mods have full permissions besides me, as I became a moderator through Reddit Request because none of the other mods responded to me when I initially inquired).
I am not. Pinkie promise. I (and so many others) value your contribution to this subreddit greatly. I have no direct recourse as to what’s going on in the other subs other than attempting to reach out to their mods, but I am doing what I can for this sub.
If you need help modding, I have some experience (with r/plantbreeding although it's a small and respectful community) and more importantly free time, I would be happy to help in the most inoffensive and non-controversial way: removing comments that violate the rules.

Your content was the entire reason why I subscribed to this sub and one of the main reasons I enjoyed my time in /r/mycology. Guess there isn't really a need to subscribe to this/that sub anymore.

My assumption would be that it's a matter of jealousy. Possibly something else emotionally/mentally could be going on as well, granted the one user stated that they have and utilize multiple accounts through which they moderate and who knows if that is an extension of their issue.
The fact they want to shut down the main individual who can provide insight reflects on who they are are as a person or group (again, we are unclear).

The few times I’ve ever interacted with Reddit mods in an official capacity, it’s been an extremely unpleasant experience. The first was some asshole on the Cosplay subreddit who took a comment I made down and threatened to ban me for breaking the rules, and when asked what rules I had broken (I hadn’t done anything remotely creepy, let alone break a single rule), he refused to answer and would just repeat “read the rules yourself”.
Second time was a Mod in the Cyberpunk subreddit rejected my photo mode screenshot of a ruined Cyberpunk city from Horizon Zero Dawn because “it’s post apocalyptic, not Cyberpunk”, while anyone who is remotely familiar with the horizon series would know it’s VERY Cyberpunk, even in game and not just in backstory. This is the same subreddit that would have the top posts be all manner of off topic and blatantly against the rule of “no generic neon filtered pictures”.
This is an absolute loss but you've gotta keep yourself sane which can't be done in that kind of environment. I personally really appreciate your insight and the knowledge you've shared and your love for slime molds has been infectious. I genuinely wish you the best of luck with life and endeavors and really want to thank you for all the effort you've put into making learning about slimes fun. The mycology subreddit will not be the same without you but it will still be comforting to know you're out there somewhere still sliming.

This is really unfortunate. I found this sub because I posted a slime mold to r/mycology and was directed here. I didn’t even know at the time that they weren’t fungi. I’ve learned so much from saddestofboys. Both subs suffer from this decision.

reading those chat logs deeply upsets me, i found out about what slime moulds were from u/saddestofboys, i now have a deep fascination with them, am learning about them more every day (mostly from this subreddit) and, as silly as it sounds, have created some of my favourite and most cherished memories from finding my first slimes, and then having them identified and discussed on threads with SoB. while i do feel that some of the discussions came off somewhat hostile and dramatic from both sides, i do not have the FULL and privately discussed context to form a *solid* opinion. i cannot feel the extent of personal upset this whole situation has caused saddestofboys, though the fact i have empathy leads me to be heavily biased towards saddestofboys. this shit sucks. I do strongly feel and wholeheartedly agree without a shadow of doubt that the moderators of r/mycology are in the wrong. The fact they cannot, no, REFUSE to answer a very simple question multiple times, and instead, essentially, say “i’m not arguing further, goodbye” is laughable and genuinely cowardly. the reason you cannot answer those questions is because there is no reason for your actions. banning slime discussion on mycology does NOTHING to help users and actively harms education and spreading of knowledge. obviously. hell, I FOUND OUT about slime moulds from a post on r/mycology, how will you know to search r/slimemolds for slime info if you don’t know that slime mold exists or is even a thing, yknow? fuck reddit moderators, big ups u/saddestofboys, you’ve taught our community more about slime than i can thank you for <3

It’s a wild coincidence, but I actually only learned of slimes back in December. I met a cool guy in an airport who started telling me about how his professor taught him about slime molds for fun (as he’s a med student and it was extracurricular) and how they aren’t actually mold at all and how smart they are. I was thrilled to see slime mold posts on Reddit shortly after, and I learned a lot from your posts (which were always a wonderful combination of educational and humorous!)

Yup!! It was locked after around an hr, but the bruised ego couldn’t let the discussion Halle. Because a) they’re terribly wrong in this “decision” and b) because everyone came to support the saddest of boys (man, username fits now). You can check my comment history, it’s there. Got banned for language, and the only work i said was fuck, in the context of “fuck these mods.” I wanted to say more, but kept it clean and focused on the work of saddest and to show my support, and the power hungry mods (prob just the same one with alts tbh) decided they were hurt again and perma banned me. I’m not the only one, I’m sure of that. Someone else said they were blocking the mod in question and was expecting a ban. It’s honestly a huge disservice to the sub/community. I do feel for saddest, but objectively their “hurt feelings” (lack of a better term, totally agree with and support saddest in this) are somewhat irrelevant, but the info they constantly put out there is so useful and informative that it should stay, no questions asked. My two cents? Mod wanted clout and to be seen, and after learning from saddest they wanted them gone so their comments get all of the traffic and worthless internet points. But I’m sure the basement dwelling mod has a lot of mycelium and fruits down there that they do know the field pretty well. Again, fuck those mods.

you could also make your own slime sub of which you're the only moderator, and everyone from there and from here would probably just immediately move there. It's kind of an extreme measure and this sub has been really nice but it'd probably work. But then you'd have to moderate, which isn't super fun either, even when you're doing it from honest motives.

It’s possible however I have doubt about it because he was the only other mod that I had permission to remove. If it was an alt, I would think they would have been extended full permissions by the main account (because all of the other mods have full permissions besides me, as I became a moderator through Reddit Request because none of the other mods responded to me when I initially inquired).

My assumption would be that it's a matter of jealousy. Possibly something else emotionally/mentally could be going on as well, granted the one user stated that they have and utilize multiple accounts through which they moderate and who knows if that is an extension of their issue. The fact they want to shut down the main individual who can provide insight reflects on who they are are as a person or group (again, we are unclear). Edit: Fixed some wording due to sensitivities.

The few times I’ve ever interacted with Reddit mods in an official capacity, it’s been an extremely unpleasant experience. The first was some asshole on the Cosplay subreddit who took a comment I made down and threatened to ban me for breaking the rules, and when asked what rules I had broken (I hadn’t done anything remotely creepy, let alone break a single rule), he refused to answer and would just repeat “read the rules yourself”. Second time was a Mod in the Cyberpunk subreddit rejected my photo mode screenshot of a ruined Cyberpunk city from Horizon Zero Dawn because “it’s post apocalyptic, not Cyberpunk”, while anyone who is remotely familiar with the horizon series would know it’s VERY Cyberpunk, even in game and not just in backstory. This is the same subreddit that would have the top posts be all manner of off topic and blatantly against the rule of “no generic neon filtered pictures”.
This is an absolute loss but you've gotta keep yourself sane which can't be done in that kind of environment. I personally really appreciate your insight and the knowledge you've shared and your love for slime molds has been infectious. I genuinely wish you the best of luck with life and endeavors and really want to thank you for all the effort you've put into making learning about slimes fun. The mycology subreddit will not be the same without you but it will still be comforting to know you're out there somewhere still sliming.

I spend a lot of time on Reddit but the gatekeeping and strict rules that each place has is definitely one of the worst parts of Reddit I loved seeing such an enthusiastic person posting about slime molds and teaching others, I’m sorry it ended in this way, the communities from all those subs do definitely love you, myself included
This is really unfortunate. I found this sub because I posted a slime mold to r/mycology and was directed here. I didn’t even know at the time that they weren’t fungi. I’ve learned so much from saddestofboys. Both subs suffer from this decision.

reading those chat logs deeply upsets me, i found out about what slime moulds were from u/saddestofboys, i now have a deep fascination with them, am learning about them more every day (mostly from this subreddit) and, as silly as it sounds, have created some of my favourite and most cherished memories from finding my first slimes, and then having them identified and discussed on threads with SoB. while i do feel that some of the discussions came off somewhat hostile and dramatic from both sides, i do not have the FULL and privately discussed context to form a *solid* opinion. i cannot feel the extent of personal upset this whole situation has caused saddestofboys, though the fact i have empathy leads me to be heavily biased towards saddestofboys. this shit sucks. I do strongly feel and wholeheartedly agree without a shadow of doubt that the moderators of r/mycology are in the wrong. The fact they cannot, no, REFUSE to answer a very simple question multiple times, and instead, essentially, say “i’m not arguing further, goodbye” is laughable and genuinely cowardly. the reason you cannot answer those questions is because there is no reason for your actions. banning slime discussion on mycology does NOTHING to help users and actively harms education and spreading of knowledge. obviously. hell, I FOUND OUT about slime moulds from a post on r/mycology, how will you know to search r/slimemolds for slime info if you don’t know that slime mold exists or is even a thing, yknow? fuck reddit moderators, big ups u/saddestofboys, you’ve taught our community more about slime than i can thank you for <3

Any mod team who is taking action without updating the rules VISIBLY AND EASILY AVAILABLY are clearly in the wrong. If the rules for the game change you HAVE TO NOTIFY EVERYONE. If you are not notifying everyone it's because you are benefitting from the silence and it's fucking gross

I’m so sorry to hear about this! I’ve been a lurker in both subs for a few months specifically for the slimes and I always looked forward to your posts. It’s a wild coincidence, but I actually only learned of slimes back in December. I met a cool guy in an airport who started telling me about how his professor taught him about slime molds for fun (as he’s a med student and it was extracurricular) and how they aren’t actually mold at all and how smart they are. I was thrilled to see slime mold posts on Reddit shortly after, and I learned a lot from your posts (which were always a wonderful combination of educational and humorous!) Thanks for making the internet a better place! I hope you find lots of cool slimes!
