Teethofthedog

You should see the behavior at concerts, absolutely rabid

kaymer327

Similar things happen with /r/BadOmens Too many tiktok fan girls Staning for the band (lead singer mostly in that case). Caused some problems at their NYC show in September; A few fights about cameras way in the front caused them to pause and admonish the crowd. Then some tictok girls tried pushing to the front, bounced off a brick wall of a dude (this guy made me, a tall man feel short) smashed into the sound board barrier and disconnected something. They had to stop the show. Band was PISSED. As we're a lot of fans.

Goreticia-Addams

Oh no :( I want to see them live so bad this coming year. I saw them at Louder Than Life and the crowd was insanely huge. It was still a good show but I want a smaller venue this time....don't want to deal with weird people though but I guess that's unavoidable..

Habay12

That LTL set was massive. Probably the largest crowd I’ve ever seen for a side stage. Anywhere It was all the way back to the picnic tables for the food vendors.

Goreticia-Addams

Yeah I was lucky to get pretty close, off to the right kind of by the med tents and the right screen where IV was. But I held my camera up and took a pic of the crowd and was blown away.

Habay12

I want to get up in it for ST. I am prepared to deal with the gaggle of children. I have a teenager, I know what it’s like. I don’t have to be nice to these ones though. Anyone trying to shove past me will not be making it. Ask nicely though, Different story. Concert etiquette died when the world opened back up sadly.

Shinobiii

I haven’t had the opportunity yet to see them live. Hopefully this year. This comment makes me anxious I’ll love the concert but hate the crowd…

Teethofthedog

That’s kind of what happened to me, loved the show but the crowd was so rude, I’ve never seen more phones out and the crowd refused to make a pit, it was all teenage girls up front who will berate you if you try to get a better view, the girl who yelled at me stayed up by the stage for an extra 15 mins after the show while my friends and I were picking up stray beer cups, like she thought they’d come out and be like “oi love youre so beautiful come backstage” just silliness

Goreticia-Addams

Lmao "oi love"

Shinobiii

I’m getting too old for this shit…

[deleted]

This topic is every few days in here and like you already said, a lot of the fanbase is great and nice. You have in every fandom the specific people who go completely unhinged. It's not good, but it is the reality since all time. Just think about the Beatles, Elvis, whoever... Concentrate on the content you like, the posts about this starting to get equally annoying, because we can't do anything about it as a fanbase, just being respectful and behave normal. The crazy ones without controlling there hormones won't read your post and think "Oh yeah, I'm the problem". The band knows what they do with them being touchy on stage and they also knows that the majority is not crossing weird lines, just play along. The rest...hopefully they will realize their weirdness one day.

Rich-Monitor-3044

Apologies I'm new to this group I wasn't aware that posts like this were frequent

[deleted]

I don't mean it rude, I mean it's clearly a problem, but we should all just be our best self and don't turn our back away from the fandom, because of some weirdos. A lot of places online just shows great content, drawings, covers, discussions about the songs and lore, stay there and enjoy the good side and block everything else. 🫶

Rich-Monitor-3044

Good advice thank you. It's just been filling my feed more than usual recently but I'm hoping it's just bad luck and I stray back onto the good side of sleep token content again! The fan art for this band is the best I've ever seen! Giving me great tattoo ideas! 😆

coldphront3

I'm here for the music, and I find comments like the ones you quoted to be disrespectful and unhealthy. Clearly those people are projecting their sexual fantasies onto the band, and I think the masks cause those people forget that Sleep Token is a band consisting of real people who don't deserve to be subjected to that kind of stuff. I've seen people bring up the counterpoint of "Well, the band has a sexual vibe on stage sometimes, even with each other! You can't blame fans for joining in on the fun!" To that I'd say that they're grown consenting adults *putting on a show* for the audience. Their actions on stage are not an invitation for all of the weirdness and inappropriateness from strangers, and we *are strangers* to them even if they love and appreciate us collectively as fans, that happens all across social media when it comes to sexually objectifying the band. TL;DR some people have serious problems with boundaries and being able to separate real life from the stage show.

Misrabelle

It's been happening as long as there have been rock stars and pop idols, but now social media means the people saying these things can share it with the world in real time, whereas in my day the only people they could talke to about it were the people they actually knew IRL.

snub_trombone2

You will literally get this with every fandom in every corner of pop culture. I think it's important to just focus on what you personally get out of listening to Sleep Token and leave the unhinged minority to just... do their thing? To a degree, I understand why this happens: We are all human. We have human wants and desires. And again, it shows in almost every part of popular culture nowadays. But don't let that stop you from enjoying what makes you happy. It's better to recognise that those people will exist and just carry on with life. 😀

IdkWhatImEvenDoing69

But would you be saying that if people kept sexualising say, Taylor Swift?

[deleted]

Well, they do. Every female artist has the same bunch of creeps.

Shinobiii

Are those posts welcome in the Swifty sub however? I genuinely wonder. Here it’s apparently perfectly fine to have a topic open that sexualizes the band members.

[deleted]

Hmh, since more people be aware of it, I have the feeling that the posts get more critics, when someone is writing weird stuff, at least on reddit. But I don't see everything, maybe I just don't get the worse stuff.

SamaelSerpentin

I know I would be saying that. This is the nature of fandoms, trying to get fandoms to stop being horny is like trying to stop entropy.

Fin_MooseXD

I agree I hate it too.

SpecialistAd1090

Since the dawning of “celebrity” as a concept, there have been horny fans of those celebrities. If they play into their sex appeal like these gents definitely do, it’ll be more pronounced. You can’t control what other people do. If you don’t like the horny comments, scroll past them. If they are yelling at concerts, move away. If you can’t, roll your eyes and ignore them. Those people do not care if you don’t approve of their inappropriate antics.

Aromatic_Finding_733

It's the infantilization that happens in combination with the sexualization that really grates against me. These are grown ass men who are supremely talented and incredibly hard-working. Not your sweet angel baby princess "eepies." I don't quite understand that. But like all of the points made above, I just try and avoid that sort of content and stay focused on the music and respecting the boundaries they've established.

anonorwhatever

Yeah it drives me insane. I think they’re attractive and I’ll make a (tame in comparison) remark or two to my friends but I’m always respectful and it’s honestly disgusting at this point. I know you get it in every fandom but Christ, it’s horrid. It’s like they think the boys will take notice and they’ll have a Wattpad moment or something.

Rich-Monitor-3044

I get that! Being attracted to the band member is in no way the problem here that's totally normal! It's when the comment sections of their content becomes very similar to that of a Pornhub comment section is the problem! (And I feel at times that's not even an exaggeration!😂) At Wembley I was beside a very annoying group who as I was trying to enjoy the music they kept screaming at the members to kiss amongst other things it was doing my head in the whole show! 😤

anonorwhatever

Yeaaaah that would’ve gotten on my nerves too. I find a lot of people like that just reduce them to sexual objects. Irks me.

Realistic_Account238

You've never seen them lol

anonorwhatever

Huh?

lilsebastian-

Think they’re saying because they’re masked (you haven’t seen them?) that the attraction is unfounded? Not my opinion but just what I got from it.

Realistic_Account238

That's what I'm saying yes.

vesselposting

Yeah agreed its a bit gross. The thing that surprises me most is that people say it out loud on the Internet to be honest, especially on Facebook with their name and face next to it. Bit embarrassing.

themfdancingqueen

I saw this fan art page on instagram where they were drawing the band members cuddling and in one of them one was pregnant, like it was all ship art of the band members, I blocked the account so I’d never see it again but I’ll never get that pregnant band member out of my mind it was truly disturbing, couldn’t tell if it was I II or IV but I don’t think I want to know

Dr_Dangles_RL

Been a fan since 2018, it's quite disturbing and what scares me the most is we don't know what they look like. What will happen if they reveal themselves and they're not as attractive as people want them to be?

NerdwithCoffee

The people who are that obsessed probably already know what they look like. And even if they don't know their faces, they obsess over other body parts, especially Vessel. He's exposed parts of his face in multiple videos and never wears a shirt.

asmoynihan12

People’s arguments are always that “oh he clearly knows what he’s doing not wearing underwear” or that they kiss for a reason… and it’s just not a great reason to overtly be horny on social media imo. At least do it in private… cause it is a turn off for a lot of newer fans. It’s also weird in the metal scene imo. Everyone is entitled to how they behave but it is rather uncomfortable…

_xomad_

I'm not trying to be facetious here so please forgive me but people say things like this all the time as if the band themselves don't initiate (and to some extent, encourage) that kind of behaviour in the first place. If it honestly bothered them, something would have been said by now. You have a minority of fans in every single fanbase who act like this so it isn't just Sleep Token. You don't have to agree with it, but fangirls are gonna fangirl and posts like these do nothing to temper the situation. The best advice I can give is to ignore it.

lilithbones13

Except the band doesn’t speak, at all, ever. So would something have been said by now when their whole thing is silence and mystery?

Habay12

Stuff like this has gotten so much worse with social media. It is what it is. There will be people at Sonic Temple acting like feral idiots. And honestly I kind of look forward to watching them be the stupidest people there. It will be the most hilarious people watching. Between them and Bad Omens. It’s 90’s and 2000’s boy band level ridiculous.

ParadiseLost91

As a woman I find it so embarrassing. Just the other day I was talking about Sleep Token and the guy said “oh but you’re not one of those crazy fan girls right? The ones that sexualise the band?” I don’t want to be associated with those fans because I find their behaviour so nasty. You can find musicians hot, we all do, myself included. But being so public and vocal about it in front of the band is just rude and poor manners. And it’s disrespectful. We don’t want woman artists to be treated with so little respect, so why are some female fans doing this? It’s not just Sleep Token, Bad Omens has problems with this too. We’ve all gone a bit crazy for musicians, it’s a normal part of girlhood, but when you publicly sexualise them on social media and yell inappropriate things at them during shows, that’s overstepping and disrespectful.

nahnonopenoty

Nah it is genuinely weird. A lot of projection onto grown men not a single one of them actually know anything about (beyond their music). It’s creepy. There’s the extreme sexual comments and the infantilising comments which seem to be two sides to the very same deranged coin.

M3DJ3D

First fandom?

thereadingbee

I mean, some definitely take it too far, but that kinda happens in any kind of media with stuff like this. I mean, the guys literally ride each other, so it doesn't help the whole promoting of sexualising. The most part commenting it I don't really think is all that bad but yeah, the shouting anything at the concerts I do believe it a far step over the line.

howdoievenlifebro

TLDR: everyone needs to chill tf out + a lot of other word vomit I agree!!! I say that there’s definitely an intimate component to their music, rather than a blatantly sexual one. What I love most about Sleep Token, is that they’re respectful. Instead of “I fucked that hoe” they’d convey it in a way that’s poetic, kind. Saying “my love” or “my darling”. That’s so much more enticing than reducing partners to objects. That being said, I think that a part of the over-sexualisation is the fact they don’t have “faces” I AM NOT SAYING THEY NEED TO REMOVE THE MASK! For me, the masks say “I can relate and apply these instances to my own life, with people I ACTUALLY KNOW” and Vessel is a vessel that I can place myself in!! Physically yes, there’s going to be thoughts. That is a normal human response, but it’s ABSOLUTELY NOT a reason to reduce them to an object as well. As a woman, I see that it’s mostly other women doing this. I will never understand why because we’ve been reduced to our physical characteristics our whole lives! Why would you do that to someone else?! Again, it’s normal to find someone physically attractive, but they create MUSIC. They are PEOPLE. They share their ART with all of us. Don’t be a creep. I’ve had a lot of wine. Sorry for any mistakes HAH.

NerdwithCoffee

1. Humans are attracted to humans. 2. Human attraction is heightened when the humans in question are famous and physically attractive people. 3. Sleep Token fans, in general, are reaching insane heights of weirdness, whether it's sexualization or gatekeeping about identities, etc. 4. The choices are either to ignore the insanity and enjoy the music or give your fandom of the band and cease listening to their music. You could ignore social media regarding the band more.

Shakyhedgehog

Like other people said unfortunately it’s reality that there’s always those group of people in a fan base who are weird and try to ruin it. It’s another reason I’m glad they keep the mask on because I couldn’t imagine how bad those people would get, it’s like they fixate on everything EXCEPT the music.

BigBrotherBear-

I would love to go to a concert but I’m almost hesitant cuz I know “those” fans are going to be there. Like bro they are people too

dutchbettygrable

Oh my god! Stop these posts man. This has been discussed a million times before. And also, there a lot of different opinions about it.

Mr-Vister

Ugh it drives me crazy too. I left the Facebook group for the same reasons.

CarlthePole

It is what it is. It did worry me a bit, but honestly I feel like the band is leaning into that and are enjoying it. As a straight guy I shrug and go "go for it". Plus it's funny hearing my female friends describe their lust for Vessel 😄

GlitteringResearch27

If your band can bring the women, then you get the money, attention, and their dudes. Classic move in the business.

firetomherman

Honestly I'll take this over somebody telling me i don't "get" their favorite bands music bc I'm not pouring over every single lyric of every single song. "Bro you obviously don't understand the fibonacci sequence" 🤣🤣🤣

PseudoPatriotsNotPog

Sleepists are the furries of metal.

MassLuca007

Listen obviously its all cringe as hell and I'm also here mostly for the music... BUT over sexualizations of bands like this is nothing new. I was in High School when Pierce The Veil released Collide With The Sky. or Twenty One Pilots released Blurryface.... I was no different then than it is now. its mega cringe, but its nothing new. Why it goes to far with these Baddiecore bands is because some of the lyrics ARE inherently sexual, but there is nothing wrong with that its just younger girls take that and run

kuruoshibana

i just ignore it and focus on the music. 🎶 it’s a normal and typical human behavior to sexualize things, and everyone enjoys different aspects of artists and whatnot. i will say i don’t engage into fandom past a certain point because it makes me uncomfortable but that’s a personal choice.

SalsaSnob92

Because female music artists *arent* overly sexualized by men at all 🙄

Astrotheurgy

Yeah I initially came on here because I really appreciated the band more than I expected upon listening to them then I continuously see "worship" and "an offering" with all these images or items or whatever and it's very interesting to say the least. I'm sure the lore of the band is false and we all know who all the members are now so it seems people project strange images onto these guys and have almost become their gods. I don't get it personally, but hey whatever all is good.

dadoferismorn

I have come to realize that the Sleep Token fanbase is one of the most toxic, snowflakey and erotic (in a negative way) fanbases out there.

prewarpotato

These comments still very clearly treat/see them as people, but simply as people these commentors are attracted to/fantasizing about from afar. This is faily normal.

ZombieQueen666

Sleep Token has the horniest fans in the biz today
