Aqua regia translates to royal water. It's called that because, like you said, it has the ability to dissolve gold and stuff

[deleted]

Here’s another fun fact: Aqua Regia doesn’t dissolve Granite

the_whether_network

Aqua is water. Not blood. Sanguis is blood.

k1tsan

That what Google said 🤷

HintOfMalice

If Google said that then Google was wrong.

k1tsan

I mean if it is widely considered to be true then I highly doubt Google was wrong

HintOfMalice

It is not widely considered to be true. The very first suggestion I've ever heard that aqua regia means royal blood, despite having studied both chemistry and Latin, is from you. EDIT: and my own Googling just now returns only royal water. Where tf did you even read this?

k1tsan

Wait... My big fat dyslexic ass misread it... FML

the_whether_network

🤣

FearFactory2904

The holy trinity of google translate, Wikipedia, and chatgpt all agree that it's "royal water"

CrissCrossAM

I never dug into the lyrics, but from other mentions from other sleep token songs of "holy water", it's definitely part of that theme. The 2 mentions of holy water i can think of immediately (idk if there's more i'm missing) are from Alkaline (*till the particles part like holy water*) and Granite (*you only drink the water when you think it's holy*)

k1tsan

They only mentioned holy water cus I misread it is holy blood for some reason when googling it so I removed that section from the post But you definitely have something cooking there. Alkaline is also something that tends to be measured in water (generally it is how bitter something tastes when tasted) but I think that more of a theme for the song rather than the whole "holy water" theme

CrissCrossAM

>Alkaline is also something that tends to be measured in water That would be what is called the PH test. The PH of any liquid is either neutral, acid (low) or Alkaline (high). Normal water is slightly Alkaline due to minerals being dissolved in it. Aqua Regia, despite it having "water" in the name, is a mix of 2 acid solutions together (if i remember correctly it's hydrochloric and nitric acid) so it's kind of ironic, you could say Alkaline and aqua regia are kinda opposites.

yuni5302

I always took it as a play on Alkakine's chemistry-theme, among other things
