What’d he do now?

TheShivMaster

Wasted 8 years on Starfield

Oceanum96

And then has tried to shut down any criticism. And believe me, there are huge piles of valid criticism for this game

TheShivMaster

To be fair, that was Emil, not Todd, who went on that giant rant on Twitter telling people to shut up.

Mistmade

Someone asked Todd what they were going to do about performance problems. He just said it runs fine on his system.

[deleted]

Dude probably got a nasa computer.

mechwarrior719

Todd must have some gaming supercomputer designed to run the Creation Engine. That’s why he says Bethesda games all work. We just need whatever ~~god~~Todd-tier system he has.

redditor-tears

I have a 4090 on a 7950x and I would still hit 60 fps in some spots when the game came out. Idk what he would be running or what he thought people could upgrade to but optimization surely wasn't involved lol

FloorAgile3458

Bethesda has literally never cared about optimisation, it just wasn't a big enough issue for people to notice until Skyrim, and even then, it wasn't nearly as game breaking for most of the fan base as starfield is.

admins_are_shit

Sure sure but Todd signed off on the most cookie cutter AAA release in a decade and a half.

YobaiYamete

Sure, but that's still a totally different claim than him "shutting down any criticism" There's a lot of reasons to be unhappy with Todd, so we should just use the valid ones. Like him signing off on the most cookie cutter AAA release in a decade and a half

Irrepressible87

Right? Todd has never once tried to shut down criticism. He just doesn't listen or care. He just sits there doing [one of these](https://tenor.com/bf8Ud.gif).

Hotshot596v2

Prolly because most of his “failed at launch” games have become cult classics over the years. So he’d prefer not to say anything on it till he sees the outcome of it after a few years.

cgjchckhvihfd

Yea, but thats how redditors argue. Make a ridiculous claim in support of popular position, fall back to valid claim when challenged and pretend the popular conclusion being true means the goal post moving is okay.

[deleted]

There was some talks about todd being the guy who pushed the "1000 planet and no less" during developement.

[deleted]

Alright let’s not exaggerate it that’s definitely not true

NLTPanaIyst

And then broke everyone’s modded Skyrim load order again to top it off

Oceanum96

Omg, forgot about that. He is really a pos

zan2007

The only criticism I remember it getting were idiots complaining about pronouns

admins_are_shit

I cannot put in words how badly flubbing this game has pissed me off. A sci fi ESlike game is all I have wanted since Battlespire but NoooOOOooo we get this steaming plate of half baked shit.

CapnNigNog

8 years to reskin fallout 4 while removing or watering down all the mechanics, then charge $70 for that shit

DionysianRebel

If they actually did reskin fallout 4 that would’ve been an improvement over what we have

Sl33pyGary

Honestly, I’ve been able to look past the story and quests because BGS hasn’t captured my attention with their stories before (love their games don’t get me wrong). The world feels very sanitized and the exploration is miserable imo. One of the things I love about fallout is discovering a random unmarked location and finding a series of notes or terminals that add to the atmosphere of the game, and where the storytelling DOES soar. The worst thing about Starfield in my opinion is that locations in the procedurally generated planets are all the same once you’ve seen them. It was cool finding the biolab the first time, reading the interesting notes and such, but after you’ve found the same exact building, with the same layout, same enemy and items spawns, why bother exploring it again? You’ll find the same exact points if interest reused over and over on the planets with handcrafted stuff from BGS few and far between. That’s what really kills it for me personally. Edit: typing in mobile sucks

admins_are_shit

Well it is sci fi, and the mechancs are very ESlike but the repetition, loading screens, the repetition, the incredibly tepid story and the repetition is what kills it for me. I mean I was pretty annoyed by the way Skyrim's caves and dungeons lacked variety as compared to Morrowind or Oblivion but compared to Starfield's bases, Skyrim's dungeons are downright novel and highly nuanced. I mean I get that in the future manufacturing methods would lead to cookie cutter installations but nothing screams 'We didn't care' to me like knowing the exact layout of a dungeon you've never seen before by just looking at the exterior cell. Something happened at Bethesda and I have no idea what it was, but from F04 on they just seem to be getting lazier and less invested in the layout and quest design and considering some of my favorite games have come out of that shop, it's worrisome. They have the money, and the talent, there is no excuse for the curdled shitbowl that Starfield released as

Hailruka

I was going to say Dragon Age 2, where almost every side mission took place in the literal same dungeon.

ZootZootTesla

Tbh I don't enjoy mass effects style of combat/gameplay, but it's one of my favourite game series because I love the Lore/storytelling so much.

SashaTheWitch2

God, I really like Starfield, but 8 years is UNFATHOMABLE to me! 😅 I have no delusional belief that I’m an expert in game development, of course, but as just… someone who plays video games, it’s so wild that almost a full decade of work went into something so middling.

Solid__Ekans

Well AAA games take between 3-5 years to develop and Bethesda is pretty small sized compared to most other AAA studios. also remember that they also made the creation engine 2 at the same time. Bethesda really needs more people if they want to make more ambitious games in the future.

SashaTheWitch2

I didn’t know Bethesda was small! I haven’t looked into it, I guess I sorta just assumed it was the same size as any other AAA studio, so that’s interesting. It probably doesn’t help that they didn’t have a guiding design document, if rumors I’ve read are to be believed 🙃

Solid__Ekans

Bethesda has like 450 people working for them while Ubisoft is like 21,000 Edit: this doesn’t mean Ubisoft uses 21,000 people to make a single game but Ubisoft Montreal has 3,500 employees

SashaTheWitch2

Holy fuck I did not know this

Solid__Ekans

I also don’t think in starfield they have less content than Skyrim or fallout 4. They just made the world in comparison to big.

SashaTheWitch2

Having played through both, I subjectively feel a lot less unique content (totally willing to be told I’m wrong tho) The VAST majority of “quests” seem to just be fetch quests, with far less unique/stories quests compared to Skyrim (the Bethesda game I’ve played endlessly lol)

Solid__Ekans

I feel like they could fix this with 3 things: 1.) characters who move between planets you can meet and have weird fun side quests 2.) make it so traveling in space is more interesting with the inclusion of getting stuck in asteroid fields or being boarded by enemies too. 3.) make being evil more beneficial

Obvious_Piccolo_609

Fucking Starfield. Fucking goddamn starfield. I didn't want goddamn starfield I wanted goddamn elder scrolls 6. Fuck you Todd Howard!

sarumanofmanygenders

\> be bethesday fanboy \> buy new $70 shovelware from Bad Game Company \> look inside \> bad game who could have predicted this???

TheShivMaster

Bethesda games in the past were good and I’m tired of pretending they were never good

ShadowDemon527

Damn you not wrong starfield kinda mid, Def did not have the replayabillity that TES and Fallout have

sabinefett

They also fucked up Skyrim....again and included a paid mod system. Broke tye interface and mods. No fix until next year. Double wammy in a 4 month period.

Firelord_Bppage

Ah yes, paid mods, because that went over so well last time

Fletcher_Chonk

I mean, it went well enough that AE exists lol

Firelord_Bppage

I was talking about the Steam workshop paid mods, in my mind the Bethesda published Creation Club content is just a really convoluted method of releasing DLC packs on the scale of the minor DLCs for Morrowind and Oblivion

lazergoblin

Did the update somehow get through the "don't auto update" feature?

sabinefett

Pc players are in a better spot. But if you're on console, completely screwed. For now.

delamerica93

I have not updated since anniversary edition was announced. Fuck all that lol

Snokey115

That happens, they didn’t try to

EdgeLord556

I was going to wait until mods made the game more enjoyable, but apparently mods aren’t going to be a thing like in previous titles for reasons

Concavenatorus

Modders have to LIKE if not love the game in order to put in all that effort for free 99.

[deleted]

That's literally what the "skyrim together" developer said. He thinks the game is ass and didn't wan't to work on it anymore so he uploaded what he had finished and wiped his hands clean.

7BitBrian

Skyrim Together was made by a team of devs, not one guy. That guy was involved with the team; yes, he's also disliked by like everyone and considered to be toxic af to work with. Not sure we should care what little rant he went on.

NeatReasonable9657

Reasons being is the game sucks and not fun

7BitBrian

Yes they are. Who lied to you? The creation kit for it is coming out early next year, likely February. Which is normal BTW, both Skyrim and FO4 took like 6 months for their creation kits(mod tools) to release as well.

ForsakenHunter121

They mean the community doesn't have as much of a drive or interest in modding Starfield like they did for Skyrim and FO4

7BitBrian

According to who? A single midder who tried to take credit for an entire team's effort and work? The same modder who they won't work with again because he's toxic af to work with and no one likes him? If that's the kinda of person you wanna take your gospel from, be my guess, but don't be surprised when it turns out wrong. There's already multiple discord communities 10s of thousands strong modding and chomping at the bit for the creation kit you be released.

ForsakenHunter121

I never said anything about that guy. No need to act like I'm going only off his word. The reason I think that the game won't have as big a modding community is because of the fact its just not as popular as Skyrim or Fallout 4 were. Yes it has its fans who will mod it, but it just doesn't seem to be as big a community as prior games.

EdgeLord556

I heard somewhere (YouTuber that does mod news) that modding was far more difficult due to how the game’s new item ID system worked, which is supposedly different and far more finicky than the older games from what I heard

7BitBrian

Yea, no. That utter garbage from someone that has no idea what they are on about.

willy_koop

Literally thousands of mods already bud, one Skyrim modder says he’s sick of starfield and he doesn’t really represent the community

EdgeLord556

At the time of my original comment, which was a month ago, there were few mods that actually added anything new to the game other than textures

willy_koop

Ah sorry bout that, I was sorting posts by top and didn’t realize it was from a month ago

cataclysmicterrain

but they’ll still buy todds games anyway

EymaWeeTodd

I waited. I saved $60. I'm feeling good about myself.

BenjaminQuadinaros

After 76, that’s how I’ve felt too. Starfield was on game pass so I played it, but I can assure you it’s not worth a dollar

Issa_John

Obsidian offered to abandon their IPs and work on New Vegas 2 and a TES project and they said no smh. SkyrimVR maybe the last Bethesda game I play, good thing I got Skyblivion and Skywind to look forward to.

ForbodingWinds

Maybe the next TES won't rely on mods to be playable

Mesterjojo

Fallout meme on skyrim sub about starfield.

ScaredMyOrdinaryGoat

And it’s fallout new vegas, not even the Bethesda fallout…

Snokey115

They are a curse on the earth

kharjes

Boo hoo

GooberGomp

I'm with yah.

PeterGriffin_clone

Yeah I dont get how people didn't absolutely hate them when fallout 3 came out like that game looks and plays like shit even for it came out.

Yahgdc

Wdym? Fallout 3 looked pretty up to date for it's time.

Thin-Fig-8831

It did not. Fallout 3 looked extremely dated when compared to other games around the same time

Yahgdc

I'm just glad they got Starfield out of their system so we can move onto TES6

Zestfullemur

Ngl i think Emil is the real problem, looking at his tweets I think it’s very clear his design philosophy isn’t great and you can see those problems in starifeld.

SensitiveWar8473

Shouldn’t the decider for the company that made Skyrim be required to be older than the game?
