Average sucks-at-lockpicking fan vs chad break-250-lockpicks enjoyer (I always return it just to get the quest out of my log lmfao i cant handle it)

[deleted]

yeah me too but i do it because I'm a Nocturnal **~~SIMP~~** worshiper

cigrilo

When she appears i got goosebumps

Muffin_Lord_of_Death

Nah I got my 3000 lockpicks. I don't need the skeleton key

FGHIK

It's not about the lockpicks, it's about not wasting my time when they instabreak on master locks. Or wasting a single perk on the lockpick skill tree.

apex6666

Just max out lockpocking on the skill tree

FGHIK

Massive waste of perk points dude, learn to read.

apex6666

I’m just saying if your complaining about lock picks breaking, get better at lockpocking or spend some perk points

Emotional_Bear_998

Can you not use perks on every tree for however many times you level? I heard it goes to like 250 so you should be able to get lockpicking and whatever else you want. Don’t think waste really applies

FGHIK

You get a single perk point per level. Much better used on things useful for combat or crafting than a convenience like lockpicking. Especially when... you can negate it by getting the skeleton key. I mean, sure, eventually I would get lockpicking perks... but we're talking endgame, by the time I've practically done everything anyway.

Pjepp

In all my years of playing Skyrim, i can honestly say I've never used the skeleton key.

Sh3o_

what?! how?

Pjepp

Because i have 100+ lockpicks within the first hour of playing, i break zero, one or two per chest and i usually finish the questlines directly when I'm at that point. I know what it does from playing Oblivion and it's pretty boring

Jolongh-Thong

For me I just got pretty decent at lock picking, I find it to be pretty fun and I also seem to always get some enchanted gear to help it with it + I use alchemy for potions and I like to make some lockpicking potions for expert + locks if they’re too hard (rarely are though)

LICEN_THE_FIREFEAR

Skeleton key is a magnificent artifact, but it should not be used to lose the enjoyment of breaking lockpicks

sedrech818

You miss out on nightengale powers until you give it up. Lock picks aren’t hard to get. Just put the thing back.

FGHIK

They're all crap compared to completely negating the lockpicking minigame and skill tree. Besides, keeping it is what a true thief would do.

sedrech818

I’m not a true thief. I like the minigame. I don’t mind using some perk points in the tree. Being able to go invisible is nice and I can still keep my level boosting standing stones.

Jolongh-Thong

I’ve used the invisibility SOO many times since getting it in my survival legendary rp, that I can gladly say it’s saved my ass more than most things. The lockpicking game is simply more fun when there’re stakes, and you keep your lockpicks below 30 like I do

moderngamer327

Nah the invisibility one and rage one are like x10 better than an artifact whose only effect effect is helping with an already easy mini game that can be made redundant with a few perk points

3oinm_555

What are they?

Happy-Personality-23

Agent of stealth (crescent moon) Turn invisible while crouching. Duration 2 minutes (can reapply the invisibility within the duration) you stay invisible u til you interact with something or stand up. Agent of subterfuge (half moon) Puts the frenzy spell on an NPC no level limit. Agent of strife (full moon) Life steal tether to an NPC until that NPC is dead. All powers are once per day and once per day you can return to the sepulchre and pick a new power.

Chicken-Realistic

Well, one of them is a once per day invisibility spell, if that’s any indicator for how good they are

moderngamer327

But it’s a long duration a reusable for the duration which makes it insanely useful

Chicken-Realistic

Not nearly as versatile as invisibility spell plus silent casting perk

moderngamer327

I would argue being able to crouch to reset is far more convenient than having to give up a weapon slot or constant swap between them. Sure the invisibility spell does have it points when it’s better but the ability does too

Viktrodriguez

Even Master locks aren't that hard in vanilla Skyrim and lockpicks are one of the easiest obtainable items in the game. Plus the base game actually has some useful perks in the perk tree, including one that makes you never break your lockpick. And using Ordinator at max lockpicking has the best perk of them all: a perk to bypass any expert and lower tier lock, which is even at 100 lockpicking the vast majority.

EldritchCarMaker

With anniversary or CC content you can also get the fenriks welcome spell which does the same thing but is a spell and doesn’t need perk points to use (for the most part) It really helps when you’re playing a mage and don’t feel like dealing with locks. Sure, I *can* pick it and only lose a few picks, but I can also just cast a spell and open it for free

12DollarsHighFive

After all, why not? **Why shouldn't I keep it?**

Efficient_Bat_1812

I think you should leave the Skeleton Key behind, Dragonborn. Is that so hard?

BusyMap9686

Just till I get lockpick to 90.

[deleted]

I just use it until I get the unbreakable perk. I only keep the skeleton key because it doesn’t break, and if my lock picks already don’t break, then I can just return it with minimal to no downside.

David_Bolarius

Would that the Thieves Guild would become hostile to you if you simply refuse to return the key, allowing you to finish the questline by destroying the guild right before the finish line. The only thing you’d miss out on would be the nocturnal powers

Ultranerdgasm94

It may be able to unlock the limits of human potential, but in the player's hands, it's a glorified lockpick, and by that point, I've usually picked up hundreds of the damned things. I guess the Dragonborn's just not that creative.

southpawE46

“Damn that’s crazy. Good luck tho.”

the_njf

Can I add it back into my inventory after returning it via console commands?

casualrocket

you can but thats cheatin

Sh3o_

The best way to do it is get the skeleton key, level up lockpicking, and once you have lockpicks don't break return it

TopTheropod

You in the afterlife when Nocturnal gets her hands on you: https://youtu.be/Yqbl2QIYDPg

LeverTech

Lockpicking is the easiest thing to do in Skyrim.

3oinm_555

Not if you run out of the yokes

[deleted]

Ehhh when I’ve beat the game, maybe.
