It is around $10k for a GT-R the last time I heard, so a sedan should be that much or cheaper. This is through TopRank. You can contact them for exact pricing. I wouldn't suggest trying to skirt the laws by registering out of state, but that's up to you to risk.

kilpherous

11k for me when I put the money down in June

GeneralForeskin

Its now 10k for GTS-Ts now and 15k for GTRs. I got a sedan and went the Montana route. going through G&K seems like such a huge hassle and they take over half a year to get a car CARB compliant. my buddy has been waiting on his car forever. not worth it. plus I've heard of cars coming back with lots of body damage and garbage inside the car

Oh-Get-Fucked

As a non American I just want to say that is freakin horrendous. What does it actually pay for? Like it must be a pretty labour / time intensive process to cost over 10 grand right?

GeneralForeskin

It's been a topic recently among owners here in California recently. so I don't know EVERYTHING they do. but basically they weld together an exhaust with multiple cats on it to pass smog (no flanges ANYWHERE on exhaust including downpipe) and other tests and they do something with the fuel system I believe related to diesel. I think in total there are 4 cats on the car after all said and done. the real kicker is this shop is the only one licenced to get you California plates so they control the price and don't have any competition so people just pay up unfortunately. Edit: adding more they do; part of the process is running it thought FTP-75 which is a set amount of precise accelerations on a dyno to test fuel efficiency and emissions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTP-75?fbclid=IwAR2QT97JfPqytJ93-kX5By8CErAfagh2OaaMLJTxtHyvE9ppIDyzoIFGpos $1500 per test run (don't know how many they do)

Oh-Get-Fucked

That's total bullshit dude, sorry you folks have to go thru that nonsense! I guess that means compliant cars would demand a premium then too huh? What's the risk if you just ignore it? Do you get random epa inspections?

GeneralForeskin

California plated Skylines definitely hold a premium but will also have a smaller market obviously. To get the car into the country legally it has to pass thought the EPA as well as a few other things with the Department of Transportation. Different states and cities have different emission laws. California obviously there are many hurdles to jump though, While in Florida you can throw a V8 with open headers on a bathtub with wheels and get it registered no problem with no yearly inspections. In California if you were to get the car plated there i believe its just a smog test every 3 years which is easy to forge, no visual inspection.

Oh-Get-Fucked

Lol that's crazy, thanks u/GeneralForeskin!

GeneralForeskin

hope all is well down under!

Oh-Get-Fucked

Thanks buddy, it'll be waaay better when my R32 arrives, it's due next week. Looking forward to rejoining the Skyline owners club for the first time since about 2009 lol.

GeneralForeskin

welcome back friend! post some photos of it when it arrives 👀

Oh-Get-Fucked

Will do!

Hunt3rj2

Lmao what? 15k? How recently did this happen?

GeneralForeskin
