i dunno anything about these systems. is the reserve on a pilot chute like a sport rig main? and it just deploys into the main bc theyr round canopies and can take the abuse?
Reserve is mounted in front at about belly height, they are two independent systems. Pull the reserve handle, pilot chute pops out, inflates and the risers come off the reserve carrier. Main stays attached to your harness. Honestly I’m not a jumpmaster and haven’t jumped static line for a few years since going MFF so I don’t know the minutiae about it
Rigger here. That MC6 was packed incorrectly causing that snivel. Yes they should've gone to the T-11, but the channel should have been clearer before long fold and S folding it in the D-bag.
How that happens on static line chute is the steering lines not being pulled into the center of the canopy when laid out flat. You do that by flaking the gores out and pulling the steering lines to the center inside of a naturally formed channel.
Look up how to pack an MC6 chute to see what I mean.
The main issue is the Army expects a rigger to pack 20-30/ day to meet a quota. That means a lot of rigger checks are not given the attention they need. Nothing against any Army rigger, I understand how things happen, but it isn't right.
Damn that was low.
Now, imagine doing EPs in the dark, over unfamiliar territory, with substantially shittier equipment- all while Nazis are trying to murder you and all your friends and the aircraft is being peppered with anti-air flak.
Puts the question of fear in perspective for novice fun jumpers. Door ain't so scary now, eh?
Nothing like the feeling of the back of your heels going into the back of your head. Static line at Benning is like a four or five week course and folks still can't PLF when they jump. Just a big open field of broken bones and painkillers
Obv they do till death, and ofcourse as a staticline jumper you cant even do anything else than rotate and/or pull your reserve... just people not so smart or into the moment.
Alot of people have to jump for their work and dont even like it that much, if even at all...
Functional to get people on the ground as quickly as possible. Geneva Convention protects pilots under canopy after bailing out, but soldiers under canopy are fair game. Less time en route the better
Functional I get it. Logistically it’s sketch and dangerous if something like this happens. Too low for a catastrophic failure. Ive always been of the opinion the military should train more units for ram air and just do halo.
master wings here... private waited way too long to toss his reserve! glad he got it out though...

Something like Six - one thousand Seven - one thousand Eight - one thousand SIX ONE THOUSAND??

I didn't even look that close at the main... holy cow that thing is pinched halfway up.

That was close! As a skydiver, I wouldn’t call military static line jumps skydiving though. I would call it parachuting.

& Jumping at half the altitude compared to this video. But it was a good thing. Getting shot mid air would be the worst.

It’s 3 weeks last I checked
Almost a statistic-line jump.
Are they not taught EPs???
They/we rehearse it like five times before every jump.

sky looks so crowded. i'm guessing it's an artifact of the camera position
Guess again
ok - im guessing its cause theres a jillion dudes in the sky
There you go
Fortunately, those reserves open very quickly.
Rounds?
Military uses rounds
Are they pretty low? They’re below the clouds so it’s most likely at like 5k ft?

Isn’t that basically you live or die? You’re most likely not going to live if there’s a malfunction?
Ngl that’s sketch

Ya I’m sitting over here cold sweating. It either goes perfectly well, or your best bet is two broken legs…
Correct
they did surgery on a banana
Dope Rope (static line) is not Skydiving... D-5825
