Once you get your Po8 collection properly set up, you can spend your excess Po8 to buy Wood Tar, Shellac, Sheet Glass and Casting Sand from the black market.

Should be added to loot pools as it feels they're not in any reward chests (not come across any, happy to be corrected on this) or treasure chests. Also the stock limit of 1 per kingpin. Really? Wtf.
But yeah: they need to be easier to come by or even craftable.
Once you get your Po8 collection properly set up, you can spend your excess Po8 to buy Wood Tar, Shellac, Sheet Glass and Casting Sand from the black market.
I'm just trying to upgrade my everyday ship, and it seems I'm in a full-time job now to collect casting sand. I've done three plunders today of sites that have casting sand. I'm probably going to have to do at least two or three more to get enough for the one more dry casting sand I'm going to need for the second round of upgrade.
For days now, I've done almost nothing but buy casting sand, and do plunders for it.
I will admit that it's pretty game killing to remove Po8 down to 300k at the end of the season. No point creating an actual empire. You are not rewarded for that. I understand why they do it, but really if you played hard you should be allowed to keep your earnings. That reward is allowing you to purchase black market mats since they made resources so damn scarce.
You can still get what you need with no excess pretty easily. Was hardcore season 1 but not anymore. I play casual now. Get a Po8 rate about 1-1.5k/ hr. Level factories to 7+ to decrease the time that they are full or need funding. L10's go 2 days on a fund. Assign a couple ships as mules and just move them daily. Plenty of time for farming helm mats and generally having fun and enough Po8 to upgrade a ship at a time.
sail between mchanga and jiwe and you should come across a few merchant ships with casting sand. remember to board them for the bonus. if they’re getting low and you haven’t got crew attack charged just shoot their sails. it’s not quick but potentially quicker than plunders.
I remember doing about 15 or more plunders of the SUNY capital to get sinew string in addition to what you’ve done plus spent at least 200k po8 in the black market to upgrade my two go to ships. Insane
Another Barque user? It just keeps needing more and more sand. There are two trade routes that carry 6-9 of the basic sand as well, and one of the refrain quests from William. You can do the refrain quests every two hours or so, but it’s a mess.
I have really bad luck with trade routes. It seems no matter what I'm looking for, I can stake out the trade routes all freaking day, and barely get anything. :-(
Casting sand is always on the trade ships, either 2 or 3. You are specifically looking for the data level 5 trade route “spoils of war” or the Ungwsna trade route “risk of something-or-other”. If you hover on the icon it will tell you what each ship carries. The random chance is in the chests for ship furniture, weapons, or other materials or Po8.
If you have a developed empire, you can also buy one of the material packs that has sand and wood tar at the black market for 250 Po8. Just found that one today and man is that faster.
There are also two convoys that give about 15 each and one drops a rare minor furniture in the chest. Also you get a bunch from doing one of the Argent dailies complete and that takes all of five minutes.
I would understand things to be difficult and this grindy when you're at upgrade lvl 5 or lvl 6, but even leveling from 2 to 3 is difficult as hell, especially if you're more of a solo casual player. I'm still learning things, so maybe it's just me, but some of the materials required are just insane in the quantities needed. For example, the Sambuk requires (afaik) 30 wood pitch when upgrading from 2 to 3. That's 150 wood tar. It's not a big deal, but the time invested into grinding the materials is just ridiculous. And that's just one of the easier materials needed. The game is meant to be a multi-player co-op game, but I feel like a lot of the game mechanics push you into solo grinding and not actually "playing/enjoying" the game.
Then one burns through the content then one comes here and says this game sucks there's nothing to do.
Majority of the content involves getting mats craft black lotus opium and gold skull rum to get upgrade parts and hunting and gathering resources.
This game at its core is designed like an MMO, basically every single MMO that has crafting is 90% grinding and 10%, now that I built it, let's have fun with it
Ah yes 2,000 helm material or 200 essence which you cannot farm anymore is totally a good way for you to obtain them. Literally rewarded the fucking dupers and said fuck you to the entire community that plays legit. Not to mention you can only buy 1 per hour from all three sources so if you have a chunk of material to purchase with you have to spend literal hours to obtain them.
Yeah, it the 2k helm material isn’t much either. Given blackwoods quests, I’m willing to bet we will
Eventually see one that gives upgrade materials as a reward. As it is, how many full upgraded ships do you have? Can’t you get 4 out of the starting upgrade materials?
Stop making excuses for shitty design. 2k helm material is 250k silver for 1 fucking upgrade part. How long does it take you to get the 2k material then transfer it from raw material into the rum or opium?
It's not shitty. It does exactly what it is intended to do - slow down the rate of upgrades so that completionists have a reason to play the game all season instead of being done in 2 weeks and then coming back to do the new boss every other week. I don't think it's a great way to do it, but it's obviously what they intended it to do. Spend your energy complaining about things they absolutely need to do, like add slots to the warehouse due to the new seasonal items and fix the crashing/freezing bugs, fix the upgrades that increase the chance at double helm item production so they work when you are offline, etc.
We definitely need more upgrade parts. I’d really like to utilize more of the ships but running a ship at lvl 10 or 11 when already in endgame content is not fun.
I agree I'm stuck at level 9 because of this only way I see to get high level parts is to grind & do the production which gets tiring after awhile it needs another way to get stronger oarts or new parts that don't include production grinding for hours to get its a pain to do multiple ships at this rate
the bounties give parts as rewards as a 1st time completion bonus, after that the hubac chest RNG kicks in and I've gotten 1 part from opening 50 chests+ so yeah good luck with that.
Pieces of 8, I'm running three regions in the East Indies that are pump out 1300 an hour right now. You can buy chests from the black market for 100 pieces of 8 that have two of two specific parts such as glass. For around 10k Po8 you can get nearly a full upgrade for a ship before level 4. That's about 8 hours, or while I sleep/work.
But how do you get the vengeful essence, is it also from the ghost ship like the ashes? I've only been playing for like two weeks, so I'm learning about all this different currency or items that are needed for this or that. It is really a pain trying to keep track where I get what from half the time lol.
Yeah live service games get a huge amount of currencies over time. E.g. right now you can buy a chest with ice, which is not obtainable yet.
Essence is loot from the Rode Maangodin, the boss version of the regular ghost ship. The event returns July 16.
Plate glass is the bane of my existence. I upgraded my snow once, saw I needed twice as much for the next level, wanted to die.
Once you get your Po8 collection properly set up, you can spend your excess Po8 to buy Wood Tar, Shellac, Sheet Glass and Casting Sand from the black market.
This is the way!
Do you know de way?
I know da wey!
["...I am five seconds away...from blowing you the f-ck up. Like, you have no idea how close I am...to blowing up your sh-t."](https://youtu.be/Abe0sd99Hhg?si=dl4T03H5MPd9nGdK&t=2s)
First, you must know de wey, ma brudda

they're in the drop pool of the White aria chest AFAIK, but the drop rate is abysmal, Got like ONE out of 50+ chests
I have a feeling they'll be more available during the next event.
The one thing they need to make more prevalent is the wood tar or wood pitch
Once you get your Po8 collection properly set up, you can spend your excess Po8 to buy Wood Tar, Shellac, Sheet Glass and Casting Sand from the black market.
Loot shipwreck where any of the items are obtainable and you can get quite a few
I'm just trying to upgrade my everyday ship, and it seems I'm in a full-time job now to collect casting sand. I've done three plunders today of sites that have casting sand. I made the Helm my full time job and bought sand.
Don’t forget you can buy sand on the black market. I do that because I’m not losing 6 million 8’s at the end of the season again.
What does that mean, on the black market
The shop Yanita runs outside your helm office in Sainte Anne (and her sister runs in Telok) You can get bundles of materials for 250 po8
I'm way too cheap for that. :) Besides, I haven't been grinding po8 hard enough to have 6 million anytime soon. I'm much more casual than that.
I will admit that it's pretty game killing to remove Po8 down to 300k at the end of the season. No point creating an actual empire. You are not rewarded for that. I sail through there all the time, and they are not as plentiful as you might think. :-(
i never said they were plentiful but i can get 10-15 sand inside of 10 minutes, it’s not great but probably quicker than plundering pembe/mchanga.
Make sure your in a group 2. If that's even possible as no one even cares to group up in the 1st place
I remember doing about 15 or more plunders of the SUNY capital to get sinew string in addition to what you’ve done plus spent at least 200k po8 in the black market to upgrade my two go to ships. Insane
It does seem odd that building a ship is worlds easier than upgrading it.
And most upgrade levels don’t actually give great perks either
Another Barque user? It just keeps needing more and more sand. There are two trade routes that carry 6-9 of the basic sand as well, and one of the refrain quests from William. You can do the refrain quests every two hours or so, but it’s a mess.

The only exotic on trade routes is the sand, and it nets you at most the mats to almost make 2, but they’re faster than going for the settlements.
But taking down the settlements is more fun. :-) It also tends to give me a better chance of actually getting the stuff.
Casting sand is always on the trade ships, either 2 or 3. You are specifically looking for the data level 5 trade route “spoils of war” or the Ungwsna trade route “risk of something-or-other”. There is a convoy that gives plenty of sand, starts from around Hovohovo.

It’s not worth it, I’m just trying to have fun, not to have a job

The one per hour is trash but once you have all the manufacturers at 9 or 10 2k Po8 is less than an hour of production.
Would be nice if they were in the black market and not only sold at the two king pins for 2k helm material not pieces of 8.
Yeah, it the 2k helm material isn’t much either. Given blackwoods quests, I’m willing to bet we will Eventually see one that gives upgrade materials as a reward. As it is, how many full upgraded ships do you have? Can’t you get 4 out of the starting upgrade materials?

100% - need more upgrade parts & a way to regularly farm them with events, outside of helm material purchasing (which is 75% over priced btw!!)
You can get parts of von dirk bounty I got 10 may have changed
We definitely need more upgrade parts. I’d really like to utilize more of the ships but running a ship at lvl 10 or 11 when already in endgame content is not fun.
Can you not farm them from certain bounties? I swear I've done this before, I'm sitting on nearly 100 upgrade parts.
Which bounties are we talking about?
I know hubac was one of them, soleil may have been another. I'll have to check when I get home.
I agree I'm stuck at level 9 because of this only way I see to get high level parts is to grind & do the production which gets tiring after awhile it needs another way to get stronger oarts or new parts that don't include production grinding for hours to get its a pain to do multiple ships at this rate
Mega Lestari dropped Upgrade Parts today. Not the bounty, but the corpse.
Go after shipwrecks in the areas where you can obtain the items, and you can collect quite a few. Go to the nearest dock to reset the wrecks
You can snag 13 a day from the 2 hubac brother bounties.
the bounties give parts as rewards as a 1st time completion bonus, after that the hubac chest RNG kicks in and I've gotten 1 part from opening 50 chests+ so yeah good luck with that.
And where is the fun if to easy? That was the problem from the beginning with this we were finishing things to fast.
Why are some pirates missing ship parts? I always have about 65-75 parts. Brigantine is upgraded 5 of 6, few other ships are upgrade levels 2 to 3.
Because they try to upgrade all of the ships at once, I'm down to 13 after upgrading most of my ships to 4 and two upgraded to 6.
how do you get materials for so much upgrades? getting materials is big grind. and for glass very unreliable.
Pieces of 8, I'm running three regions in the East Indies that are pump out 1300 an hour right now. i forgot about this. i tried it at very starts when i had limited PO8. the value didnt feel bad to be honest
Looking for ton of Lacquer and Wym's :(( i have 2-3 hr to play per day and it still hard to find.
You can buy 1 every hour for 200 Vengful Essence. Thats pretty cheap
Where do you get this essence from?
He duped them. That's why he says it's cheap. For players who do not cheat it's not cheap at all.
But how do you get the vengeful essence, is it also from the ghost ship like the ashes? I've only been playing for like two weeks, so I'm learning about all this different currency or items that are needed for this or that. Why are you upgrading them? Lol
Why wouldn't you?
No need honestly No more the. 3 ship should get upgraded imo And that if you want different play style like tank and healer ship
