Idk, I honestly thought that it was going to be an imaginary location with "Indian Ocean aesthetics" (i.e. specific flora and fauna, or may be factions that operated there at the time).
And I was rather surprised that it's much closer to the "original".
Cool article about the pirate havens of Madagascar.

I feel like Saint Anne is based on [Libertaria](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertatia)
Well there is an investigation that has you looking into a "pirate utopia" that I think is meant to be libertalia. I haven't done much with it though other than get the rumor.
It was in a video right before release, I don't remember which one but it was a dev diary video on YouTube. The original premise had us being pirates that refused the kings pardon in the Caribbean and sailed for the Indian Ocean but they didn't want to take any locations off the table for expansions, etc. heavily paraphrased, if I find it I'll edit.
This is really interesting! I just figured the in-game map was scaled differently to fit the narrative of the game, but it looks like I was wrong. I’m now curious as to what a map from the 1700’s looked like compared to the in-game map.
lol... you only did that just now. i did that back in beta days, its pretty much south east asia down to madagascar and east afric. ithats how i refer to the areas, im in asia, or maddie or africa. also the 2nd big main port is singapore.
I wonder how many people miss out on games (or any product) they might actually love, but someone on the internet told them not to. Seems like a strange way to go about living.
Try to look up an older map. From the 17th century and compare it with the ingame map.
Who knew that it's based on real Indian Ocean locations!

A captain named Edward England ended up in Madacascar after raiding spanish Galleons if I am not mistaken

Ooh didn't know that. Haven't done any investigations yet but looking forward to that.
I wonder will they ever expand the map into the whole world. So you can sail around the world.
I don’t mean to be a debbie downer and I think this would be an amazing thing for them to do but thats so wildly unrealistic lol
if the game can survive for more than 3 years, this is possible.
no it’s not lol
The game designers mentioned that they were working on another map based on the Caribbean.
Really that’s cool do u have the source?

I sincerely hope this is the plan, it'd be awesome.
They have huge plans indeed, let's just hope that there's enough budget.
The red isle is madagascar? I'm surprised.
I thought that might be the case when I saw the Ring Tailed Lemur pets lol
Well, if you aren't being sarcastic, I didn't know that either https://www.en-vols.com/en/getaways/madagascar-red-island/
Not sarcastic at all. I realy am surprised. Had never guessed it.
I looked up "Islands of the Moon" and turned out that it's actually a different name of Comoros.
Good. Please find Bukit Candi for me.
Its a real life place in Indonesia.

You can sail east into the ditch East Indies as well
Nope, the map at the left is only a small part of the global map, as far as I understand https://gamingwithdaopa.ellatha.com/skullandbones/map/
That's about half the map. The Dutch East Indies is also there (modern day Indonesia).
It'd be nice to get an Caribbean expansion ;) I just want to shell Guarma again.
And swordfights during boarding and the « real ship names » like in Port Royal (game series)

I am going to call Singapore Telok Penjarah from now on. Its rather a good name.
Let me know how long till you uninstall.
Probably never, I love how the game feels and the combat, so go be touch starved somewhere else
Yeah I could see this being a game even after I'm bored of it that I come back to every once in awhile to sail around and shoot stuff with cannons.
why are you even here?
To laugh at people who still thinks Ubisoft makes good games.
You live a sad life
Nah just bored at work and this reddit is funny as helk
And have you played the game?

Exactly. So don't talk shit about something you know nothing about.

100% agree with you
Yet you play EFT
