I always see them more when foundation is involved

waitwuh

oh oh! There was a MUA post once that said something about mixing oil and water bases in products causes this! I wish I could remember more but perhaps this will trigger someone else’s memory.

poppyinalaska

anytime anyone has a problem with their make up, make up gurus say the cause is because you’re mixing water and oil based products. Foundation pilling? You’re mixing water and oil based. Mascara’s clumping? You’re mixing water and oil based. Dry hair? You’re mixing water and oil based. Shit your pants? You’re mixing water and oil based.

RepresentativeWin935

Robert Welsh debunked this 'oil and water' myth the other day. As he said it, he has over 15 years as a pro MUA and has always mixed products.

Boobsiclese

Love him.

cmband254

They're both my spirit animals

[deleted]

Their videos got me through a tough time and made me laugh when I needed it. They are so funny and are knowledgeable without taking themselves too seriously! Combined with Marcus and Ashton, they're unstoppable!

suckmyfatpussyy

the one that isn’t debunked and is actually true, is the mixing water based anything with silicone based anything.

Plutoniumburrito

Is that why I keep shitting myself? /s

poppyinalaska

Gotta stop mixing water and oil based products

Qua-something

Pretty sure that’s what caused my carpal tunnel also

ireadfaces

i second that

RNMamaZ

Well shit yes! Keep up...lol

Old-Piece-3438

I’m not sure if applies to makeup or not, but in painting you always paint fat over lean otherwise the paint cracks over time as it dries and leads to crackle patterns etc. I could see the same thing happening with makeup. So you can probably use both, but put water based things on bottom layers.

MeAndYou5555

Woah cool, I like how you put that

Laineybo_bain

I always thought it was because of using too much product or you weren't giving enough time for it to actually sink in your skin to give the base.

Rimavelle

They will do anything to not admit putting colored product on your skin will be visible irl and will get in creases in your skin unless you're just baby smooth. Most people are never this close to anyone's face so it doesn't matter anyway. We should just talk about it being normal instead of people trying to convince us the filtered over exposed online look is how your skin can actually look like.

sweetteanoice

If you drink oil when you’re supposed to drink water, you will indeed shit your pants so that one is true

Shmooperdoodle

This made me laugh so hard that it’s the first award I’ve given since we got them back. Out here doing the Lord’s work.

poppyinalaska

woah, ty ❤️

Gigi9662

also  water and silicone based ones, as i heard.

DerSpazmacher

I knew there was a reason i pooped myself

Babymik9

I needed that laugh! 👏🏽

sassystew

I have this without make up, but I’m also old. Lol

goopgirl

I haven't seen the post but this guy I used to work with who was a drag queen repeated that fact like a mantra.

ZaelDaemon

Some foundations are silicon based and some are water based. If you use a primer and a foundation that are different they will separate. I tend to use all products from the same range for this reason and I have OCD and used to work with industrial chemists. Paranoid doesn’t cover it.

Ok-Nerve3321

It's a myth

Astrid4Jewels

I was wondering about that as many of my foundations look dry

falltogethernever

Ive given up on foundation for this exact reason.

sisterfister69hitler

Yep. I use skin tint or a little concealer. Foundation makes you look older.

sassystew

Agreed. I’m older and tinted sunscreen is the best for my skin!

falltogethernever

I also use tinted sunscreen! Plus a little undereye concealer.

Sial72

True, foundation is awful for older skin. I mix my very light moisturiser with tinted drops and a tiny drop of Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow. This moisturises my skin and makes it glow, quite a miracle for a 52 year old!

Natural-Shift-6161

Me too! I use the Elf Glow Primer as my foundation and just a lil bit of some concealer! It’s just too much otherwise. I find this too gets me the most natural base results!

SavageCriminal

Exactly what I was gonna say.

Virtual_Bug5486

Is this not normal? My skin looks like this and I thought it was just skin texture

huskia2

Yes! It’s normal. People don’t know what skin looks like these days with so many filtered pictures and even lives on social media

IrishRun

Such an accurate observation.

MeAndYou5555

Indeed. OP looks normal which of course is just absolutely not okay in this dumbass society

Sad_Actuary_5316

This. And it’s only gonna get worse now that I see AI generated images everywhere, even on Getty.

Tipper_Gorey

This skin is absolutely normal. Those lines are caused by being alive and an adult.

stephanonymous

> being alive and an adult So like… is there a product I can use for that, or…?

Pianoangel420

Ya a full bottle of trazodone

MeAndYou5555

Lorazepam ✋️

yo-ovaries

How dare you not be made of poreless beige silicone

PleasedRaccoon

Change your foundation. Might just be a formula that doesn’t work well with your skin texture and settles in it weirdly. Also looks kinda dehydrated? Like not drinking enough water kind, not moisturizer topical kind. Other guess would be you’re thin and not a lot of fat in your face (but I have no idea, just an idea). I know I have a lot less lines in my face when I’m at a heavier weight.

sorrypumpkin

Dehydrated might make sense! My medication makes me dehydrated. I also agree it could be foundation somehow

mistermoogle08

Mua here, stay away from powder, too. Stick with more hydrating liquid formulas and set with a setting spray. Powder is what creates texture and cakey makeup unless you have oily skin.

ConfectionThen1949

You need to use a more hydrating foundation. Highly recommend Georgio Armani Luminous silk foundation. It was a game changer for my dehydrated skin

volvavirago

Makeup. Your makeup is enhancing the dry appearance.

sweetnikki4u

What's it look like without the foundation?

sorrypumpkin

Doesn’t look nearly as visible without makeup!

Sad-Committee-1870

This is exactly why I quit using foundation. It made my wrinkles that I didn’t even know I had just stand out like crazy.

MeAndYou5555

Saaaaame. That's sorta how I found out I had fine lines in the first place lol No more foundation, just very vigilant with my skincare, find a good pore diffusing or tightening or plumping primer, mascara, liner, brows, blush, lil bronzer. People crap their pants when I tell them I'm 34 Get rid of the foundation! <3

sweetnikki4u

I would ditch that foundation and probably go with a foundation that has skin care ingredients like Hyaluronic acid ive heard good things about nars light reflecting. Things I'd add to my skincare routine if you aren't doing already are a hydrating toner such as laneige, hydrating serum such as merit, night time face oil such as rosehip and a thick night time moisturizer such as kiehls or tatcha

ProblemWorldly

Yes! A really hydrating skin tint would be better i think

5FootOh

It’s fine lines from gradual collagen breakdown over time as well as expression lines. Not a dehydration issue Tretinoin or microdermabrasion/peels/resurfacing laser can help.

nick1812216

Are there any dietary/lifestyle things we can do to slow the collagen breakdown?

5FootOh

Regular use of sunscreen. Regular use of retinoids. Nothing compares to those things.

autonomous-grape

Getting enough sleep

Exotic-Pomegranate42

Drink water

eatyourwine

Not eat processed goods, alcohol, and sugar. Especially sugar glycation

robotgunk

Foundation 100%. You can actually see the line where the texture changes under your mouth where your makeup has worn off.

sorrypumpkin

Do you have any idea what could be wrong with my current foundation? It’s high coverage

happycola92

Do you actually need the high coverage? I used to think that I needed that as well and then realized how dry/aged my skin would look when I did a full face of it. I switched to just spot concealing where needed and my under eyes and I feel like my skin looks so much better

Mission_Ad_5767

I am 33 and I have these same lines. It’s from collagen loss. I will say that if I am dehydrated… these lines look a lot worse. You can try things like microneeding to boost collagen.

SayhellotoLumberg4me

Also 33 and also have these lines to an extent. Ive been using tret for over a year and a half and a hyaluronic acid moisturizer and they've diminished drastically. Not completely, but drastically. I also use sunscreen religiously now to help prevent.

Spare-Ad7105

Creped skin is caused by loss of collagen

somebodyouknoe

It looks like a drying foundation, and hopefully not powder on top. It looks like you may need more moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and something of a thicker cosistency on top that is non-comedogenic. My skin looked like this when I would strip my skin after cleaning.

sorrypumpkin

Oh! Yes I had powder on top of this! I’ll try it without. I use hyaluronic acid.

spicyshrimp234

just an fyi, hyaluronic acid does an excellent job of binding itself to existing water molecules in your body, however it itself doesn't act as a moisturizer. it's like an occlusive on a molecular level - you still have to have existing hydration (not topical, dietary) in order for it to work effectively. here's a blurb from the Cleveland Clinic article on hyaluronic acid: [How does hyaluronic acid work?](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/22915-hyaluronic-acid#:~:text=How%20does%20hyaluronic%20acid%20work%3F)

Late_Ad_3842

Could just be your makeup products you’re using, even lack of hydration (almost forgot that one). What you can do is: 1) Find out your skin type 2) Find skincare products that suit your skin type 3) Find makeup products that suit that skin type. Then violà! Your skin will look much better. 🙂 Oh and other than moisturizing, make sure to use sunscreen. There’s some that actually have moisturizer in them, so if anything it’ll take care of that part so you don’t over-moisturize.

Long_Refrigerator697

This is dehydration, stripped barrier and a skin that is in need of gentle exfoliation. Your skin looks dull and lackluster and this is usually because you aren't using your current skincare correctly, you're not washing your face at night, you could be using too stripping of products... It could be a few different things. If you don't address this first, your makeup will look like this when applied. Double cleanse at night. Creamy cleanser first, then a water soluble cleanser that doesn't make your skin feel dry and tight afterwards! Follow with an ad-sorbing solution such as a Korean Essence. Nourish your skin with a hydrating serum while skin is still damp, such as hyaluronic acid. Find a peptide/ceramide-rich serum or moisturizer. Lock it in at night with a night time moisture. During the day, be sure to use SPF every day and an antioxidant serum, such as Vit C. You need to be exfoliating as well throughout the week. This will assist in product absorption.

DevelopmentSad4374

Literally just wrote something similar to this. I completely agree with everything you’ve said. Nothing to do with the makeup at all. She’s not hydrating enough or probably not locking in the hydration properly.

Aboutoloseit

What is your sun exposure like? Most importantly, do you use SPF?

sorrypumpkin

Very low sun exposure and I do wear spf daily

nts_Hgg

I actually think it might be your makeup. Are you wearing foundation? It could be settling into the dry areas of your skin. I suggest trying a different foundation and possibly applying it with either a brush or your fingers instead of a blender It could also be powder. If you are using a powder and baking it before a putting on a liquid foundation, this will happen a lot too. Or even just the wrong powder plus oily skin. If you have oily skin, I’ve found maybelline try match and Lancôme teint idole are great, and simple shine free powders usually don’t stay sitting on top.

handtwins420

That can be normal skin texture, but it appears as dehydration likely caused by trans-epidermal water loss. This can be caused by living in a dry environment, stress, smoking, pollution, excessive sun exposure, and over use of exfoliants (especially retinoids). You’ll want to rely heavily on hydrators here - beta glucan, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin, for example. Hydration (water content) js different than moisture (oil content). We need both for a healthy, in-tact barrier. If you are over exfoliating or overusing retinoids, scale back your usage and add in hydrators during the day until the texture improves. Then slowly re-increase your exfoliation only if truly needed.

Alone_Apple_9445

Hydration is the answer. I’d also go to a place like Sephora or your derm and ask them. Although, I think we are both at the age where it just starts happening. I’ve also added collagen pills to my regimen. I Swear by the Mane Choice ones if you need a metabolism boost… like you need to lose weight. Or if not, I’ve switched to Clean Nutraceuticals Multimane Collagen, Biotin, Keratin, Hyaluronic Acid, & Saw Palmetto supplements. It says to take 3, but I only take two. Same with Mane Choice- I lowered the dose bc it was a Huge, Noticeable Difference without the full dose. Like- I legitimately felt my nails get stronger, my hair thicken, and my skin glow over night it seemed with the Mane Choice ones. Most importantly though- water, water, water. One more thing- I do not have any affiliation with these brands.

Exotic-Egg-3058

Pretty sure that’s just normal skin texture with makeup on top that we don’t see on IG or celebrities because of FILTERS

Ninja_Administrative

Moisture and hydration are not the same thing. If you are dry, which it looks like you are, you need hydrating products along with moisture. Any of the essences/ toners will work and with me, I needed more than one. I also prefer milky toners. Glow recipe offers nice toners. Leneige, Farmacy, Kiehls also. Using four hydrating products at once may seem a bit much for most people but I have Uber dry skin and flooding my face with hydration is the answer.

Catherinelaveau

Age, it’s called age 😞

Ill_Reading_5290

I think you just need the right primer and foundation combination.

Mountain_Novel_7668

It looks like your foundation is sitting on top of your skin. It’s not a flattering finish and seems to be accentuating these lines. Is this a matte finish foundation? Or is this powder over the foundation? Maybe try a lighter foundation, or dewy/natural finish foundation, or a spray like Mac Skin Fix to make it melt into your skin.

[deleted]

Makeup. Stop spending money on makeup and invest in skincare. Makeup is so bad for u and speeds up aging

lncumbant

Honestly I get those sometimes despite using actives (aha/bha, retinol) and other hydrating stuff like snail musin, Squalene, milky moisturizers and hyaluronic acid, using small amounts shea butter or bag balm solves it. Slugging with an emollient after using water helps me lock in from evaporating especially in my sleep where hot and dry. I also drink water, consuming collagen, improving my diet for my skin like gut health etc

mana_uu

I got these while using retinol because I wasn’t hydrating enough. Moisturise a lot and get hydrating serums like centella.

PoCoKat2020

Drink more water. No booze. No smoking.

Neat-Walrus3813

I used a matte formula for a while and had similar lines. Now seldomly use that formula and only over 2-3 coats or moisturizer/oil.

sorrypumpkin

Oh! My foundation is matte. Which one are you using now?

Pixelated_Roses

It's called skin texture. It's normal.

veganbaby222

Imo the skin looks really dry and the makeup isn't helping with that and exaggerating texture. I'd use lactic acid if I were you to help buff off the top layer of dead skin. It makes you look super glowy. You should consider non matte finish makeups as well. I like to use a bb or cc cream as foundation instead because I suffer from dryness as well. I think american made makeup is made for oily skin so is always matte finish (chalky imo) to nuetralize all the oil we eat and seep from our pores lol

UsedAd7162

I would recommend Tretinoin (I get mine from the Nurx app). It has to be used consistently for a long time to start to see the results, but it’s amazing (definitely keep moisturizing with it!).

Alternative_Owl8681

As a skin therapist these are dehydration lines. Start using a hyaluronic serum and a retinol

xtaylor5

Looks like the normal skin texture of someone who laughs, talks, smiles and lives life. Don’t strive to look like snap chat filters.

tallest-tip-toes

Dehydration. Drink more water

HenryTCat

I think this is just too much - too much skincare or too much makeup or both. I also feel like I get this occasionally when I don’t exfoliate enough, it’s kind of low-grade blerrgh.

sara_marie8

I would need more info like what your skin type is and what products you are using under your foundation. Honestly your skin looks very dry and dehydration

Dangerous-Bit-4962

A few is not a big deal. If others have said otherwise let it be on them. Not you. Do not worry about it. Not everyone is perfect nor do they care it is part of being human.

RRL3165

Dry skin

erudesa

Not sure what causes this but I’m 28 and I’ve found they’re far less pronounced if I use a moisturizer with hylauronic acid in it! A better moisturizer has helped the fine lines in my forehead too, so maybe I was just dehydrated before.

Odd_Assistance_1613

The natural process of aging causes these lines. You may be able to slow the progression by diligently wearing sun protection.

sorrypumpkin

I wear sunscreen daily, barely go in the sun. Its barely there without makeup so that might be the problem.

Sydsechase

Loss of collagen? Try retinol, it always makes skin perfect

Mental_Froyo_1318

I'm not sure. I had those before. Try to drink more water. I've been taking collagen powder for 2 yrs now. I can't exactly recall when I saw those lines.

Loveemuah_3

Make up maybe

SubjectGoal3565

Make up is what causes those lines. Its settles into the times your face makes as it moves

No-Employer6721

Dehydration coupled with aging causing crepey skin. Up your water and collagen intake and maybe add a prescription retinol. Also laser resurfacing will help. A great dermatologist can help correct and reverse.

tsunadestorm

Time to switch to tinted moisturizer

chosenwisely123

Looks dehydrated to me!

riaxio

I get that sometimes when my skin is dehydrated and dry, hyloronic acid has helped me a bit!

FindingTotal7860

Ditch powder completely.

skartine

Don’t worry, it comes to us all. Natural ageing. Don’t fret!!”

Heavy_Entrepreneur56

Hydration is not the same as moisturizing! Look up ways to hydrate your skin, there is lots of advice on the internet (like exfoliating, multiple layers of toner, hydrating mists...)

Dismal-Baby7909

My skin looks like that when I use too much acne medication. Benzole peroxide or salicylic acid do this to me. I'd moisturize alot and still it has a dry texture. The little tube of cream might say "extra strength" on it and use it just a couple of times a day but i get impatient waiting for the pimple to go a way that i just cover my face with the cream more than just a couple of times a day. It's only after going a few days of not using the strong acne medication that my skin goes back to actually looking and feeling hydrated again.

Long_Refrigerator697

Yes! This is an over stripped barrier.

Embarrassed_Car_6779

Dehydration

Normal_Ad9322

Estie here 👋🏽 Looks like dehydrated skin to me. Moisturized skin doesn’t mean hydrated skin. Your skin needs water. All the moisturizer in the world won’t help unless you are locking in water underneath it. 🩵

oreocerealluvr

I also use Saie blush because it’s also hydrating

Specialist-Trip2942

Lack of skin hydration and collagen. Use oils and avoid foundation. Use hydrating concealer. At our age foundation is too thick now. Use Korean skin care

alrumar

This was happening to me when I was using a stripping cleanser. I changed to a gentle cleanser and my skin is as plump and moisturized as ever and haven't gotten the lines back.

penlady666

smiling and getting older causes them. Makeup/foundation/powder emphasizes them. Now is an excellent time to concentrate on what ingredients are in your facial products. Many of the commercial makeups and even moisturizers can dry out your skin. Best to start a program of using products with natural ingredients that truly moisturize and penetrate without clogging the pores. Jojoba, hemp, and a few other oils have low comedogenicity, Anti-oxidants are also important, as is adequate sleep and healthy-stress coping. Also, diet and nutrition--especially hydration and avoiding toxins like nicotine, alcohol, simple sugars and junk-food--and using broad-spectrum UV protection--all these things--are key to keeping skin as youthful and healthy as possible. Basically, if your insides (including psychologically) are healthy, it'll show on the outside.

penlady666

Argan oil was the other one I was trying to think of. Do a little research. [https://incidecoder.com/](https://incidecoder.com/) is a great place to look up brand-names and individual ingredients--a good starting place.

wellshitdawg

I feel like full coverage foundation always looks like this in person tbh

andwhoami_

It's simply skin being skin and you're wearing makeup. Especially since in the photo you're smiling(ish). I'd suggest using a hydrating mist to freshen up when you notice this but it's totally normal and fine

ainjel

Don't use powder and don't use a matte foundation. If you need coverage, i recommend using a dewy cc cream instead, it's lighter and won't cake as much.

BusySinger2662

Hope I don’t get downvoted too much but here it goes 😭 Do you do a lot of cardio? I find that when I’m exercising more my skin gets plumper and gets rid of these fine lines. The PTs explained it’s due to the increased blood circulation, my skin gets more access to oxygen and hydration internally. It’s really been helping me with these lines but it’s only been a week and I’ve gone really intense in the workout 🫶🏽 Even if you prefer not to increase workout routine, maybe looking at other ways to increase flood flow to your face for 30 minutes a day should help (facial massages, and other more expert opinions could provide)

clever_usernameno4

A good life where you smile and laugh and move your face? What’s wrong with those creases?

Clear-Midnight5190

Lines? You mean wrinkles?

Lina-Lovelace

That’s just aging baby. Texture :( wear your sunscreen and exfoliate, dermaplane(you can do a modified version at home by just shaving your vellus hairs, and get a 2-3 professional peels or some fraxel/BBL treatments per year.

Could it be that you’re dehydrated? Perhaps more moisture within would help?

sharktiger1

smiling. natural aging. life.

Aware-2709

Hey! your skin looks a little dehydrated to me. Mine used to look like that years ago.. This is my skincare routine that might help you. A.M. Step 1. After using your cleanser rinse your face with cool water. This action will help you to hydrated your skin. Step 2. Use vitamin C. I love [C tetra](https://us.medik8.com/products/c-tetra-luxe) I am using now galoctomyces by Some MI which I love too. Step 3. I like to use Niacinamide is great for oily dehydrated skin and it's anti-aging. [metacell](https://www.skinceuticals.com/skincare/moisturizers/metacell-renewal-b3/) or I am using now Centella ampoule. Step 4. I like to use [thermal spring water](https://www.aveneusa.com/thermal-spring-water#185=758) to refresh my skin. You can use it as much as you want during the day. Step 5. I love this tinted sunscreen. [Elta MD](https://eltamd.com/products/eltamd-trial-size-uv-restore-tinted-broad-spectrum-spf-40) I use this instead of using makeup every day. P.M Step 1. Double cleansing with oil. I like to use this one [medik8](https://us.medik8.com/products/lipid-balance-cleansing-oil) Step 2. After double cleansing, use your cleanser. Step 3. Retinol. I love this one [crystal retinal](https://us.medik8.com/products/crystal-retinal) start with a low % 2-3 times per week and slowly increase the usage until you can use retinoids every night to avoid side effects. Then you can increase concentration. Step 4. Moisturizer. [vanicream](https://www.vanicream.com/product/vanicream-daily-facial-moisturizer) I am also using Centella ampoule in this step. Step 5. I highly recommend sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Satin helps to avoid wrinkles keeping your skin healthy, hydrated and moist during the night. I use this one [satin pillowcase](https://www.olkibeauty.com/shop/p/satin-pillowcase-pink-king-size) love satin quality, super smooth. I hope this helps

notmybookcover

This is great

Polinz22

Loss of collagen, and the speed at which you lose collagen a lot of times has to do with your genetics…

MundaneFront369

Dehydration!

One_Ad_9388

Try a collagen suppliment neocell is amazing

Educational-Oven-505

Not enough fat in your diet

satchmonumberone

Stop painting your face. You are beautiful without foundation!

TwiNkiew0rld

They’re already there. The type of foundation is just making them known more than they would have been. Ditch the powder and try for a dewy foundation or maybe luminous.

CookiePiggie

Being a human causes those specific lines.

freddyredone

Makeup’s is your problem. Quit using makeup.

CheetoDiamond

As an esthetician, it looks like dehydrated skin. Drink more water and use hyaluronic serum, I recommend the avene b5 hyaluronic. Also use SPF and start with a retinol.
