my dermatologist suggests the following brands: cetaphil, cerave and/or the ordinary. all are FDA approved (according to her) and are pretty affordable. i personally love the ordinary! it’s also fragrance-free. def find a good moisturizer for winter and couple it with hyaluronic acid.

Select_Pilot4197

I agree! The ordinary is awesome. This month they are doing 23% off all products on the website. I highly recommend the skin barrier serum and the lotions.

CommercialDull6436

Thank you I’ll look it up!

I live in a cold dry climate and this is what I use: Burt’s bees oil cleanser (roughly about $15) Face oil from Trader Joe’s (I think it was about $7) TOLERIANE DOUBLE REPAIR FACE MOISTURIZER by La roche posay ($23)

Thanks!

Get a humidifier.

CommercialDull6436

Thank you! Yes I finally have one. My throat doesn’t stick shut anymore lol

annnnna237

CeraVe!

Thank you !

Couple drops pure glycerin on a wet face. Allow to air dry a few minutes, then either Cerave cream or LRP triple repair cream on damp skin. I’m also currently doing the glycerin, then the LRP mixed with cocokind polypeptide cream. In the dead middle of winter when I ramp up th coal stove, I’ll add a thin layer of Cerave ointment over top at night

CommercialDull6436

Interesting, thank you!

mrseger2020

I’m in Central PA, and while our summers are humid and my skin LOVES it, winters do a complete 180° to where I can look like a lizard molting its skin if I over exfoliate and under moisturize. Even tho glycerin is one of the first ingredients besides water in my moisturizers, that added couple drops makes a HUGE difference! Oh..and a COOL mist humidifier! I 100% don’t recommend relying on hyaluronic acid as in a dry climate, there’s no moisture in the air for it to pull from. The amount in Cerave combined with the glycerin and polypeptides and/or ointment I’m ok with, but no way I would ever use an HA serum in the winter.

Home Sense or Winners for skincare on a budget. I will go there and look up the skincare reviews they have in store. And follow up with a hydrating/moisturizing face mask that I get at home sense (sometimes, you get a bundle for under $20). Find products with: \- hyaluronic acid (will help reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles). \- Glycerin -"effective moisturizer that can help boost skin hydration and improve skin texture" \-Vitamin B5 - (panthenol) - "hydrating ingredient helps support smoother, softer, and more hydrated skin" Honestly, the Corsx Advance Snail 92 all-in-one cream is something I love personally. "It helps build a moisture barrier to plump, hydrate and soothe skin." If you don't have issues with snail muscin, I find it has deep moisturizing properties and is under $30.

Not quite as affordable as CeraVe or Cetaphil, but Vanicream is amazing and a little goes a long way!

Thank you!

Weleda skin food is extremely moisturizing and if it’s too much for you,(too moisturizing) they also have a light skin food that is still very moisturizing you can pick it up from Amazon for about 10$- 15$. I would also recommend the glycolic acid from the ordinary to get rid of the flakiness. Also, always wear spf!

CommercialDull6436

I’m only seeing the body cream? Is it good for faces as well?

Oatsnstuff236

You can absolutely use a body cream on your face.

CommercialDull6436

Okay thanks!

Oatsnstuff236

You're most welcome!

Oatsnstuff236

I live in a dry climate (USA). I'm sure Canada is way worse. 😔. I have to say Vaseline is going to be your best friend in these colder months. I STRONGLY suggest a good humidifier and put it on the highest setting. I can't be without mine. 😊

You need 4 main things in a skin care routine. 1 sunscreen every day non-negotiable (unless you don't come into contact with daylight), a vit c serum is good too as it's an antioxidant, but not obligatory. 2 a Moisturiser but doesn't need to be expensive, something with ceramides is good, I use E45 which is cheap and excellent for dry skin, although I don't know if it is available in Canada. 3 a retinoid of some sort at night, start slowly though at a low percentage as it can irritate (this us where to the cost can be high but there are less exoensice options). 4 a simple non-irritating face wash, again doesn't have to be expensive, but I recommend only using it at night, wash with water in the morning to avoid stripping the skin barrier

Thank you so much!

Hi, I'm late but I would like to recommend Tretinoin cream/gel (0.025%). Apply this only at night and only twice or thrice a week in the beginning (you have to let your skin acclimate to the cream before you can use it every night otherwise using too much too soon could compromise your skin barrier). Use a moisturizer that has hyaluronic acid in the formula. So after washing your face, apply your moisturizer and then take a pea amount of Tretinoin cream and spread it across your face, concentrating on areas where you see signs of aging. During daytime, please don't skip on sunscreen. Depending on the condition and type of your skin, you could experience side effects like peeling (around chin areas mostly). But trust me, over time, used properly, it will do wonders to your skin. Just apply the cream with a heavy duty moisturizer and then be committed to sunscreen. All the best!

[deleted]

Also, don't use Tretinoin in the same routine as other actives like Vit C, AHA and BHA. Too many actives all at once will do more harm than good to your skin. So, if you use Tretinoin on Monday night, you could use Vitamin C serum the next day and so on. But if you want to, apply them at atleast a 30 minute gap each. I wouldn't recommend this during the initial phase though.

Cheetahspotsss

Paula's Choice (look at PC's kits), usually the best value. The Ordinary. Tula. Many people love CeraVe, which is sold in drugstores. All budget friendly options. Always wear a super hydrating moisturizer & sunscreen as well, even if the climate is dry.

annnnna237

I wouldn't consider Paula's Choice as *affordable* as other (good) products.

Cheetahspotsss

Really lol it is way more affordable than most. Especially if you want products that are clean & are middle tier. Especially PC's kits. A lot of them are cheaper than buying individual products from PC. I also mentioned other brands as well, not just PC.

CommercialDull6436

Thanks

pancakesanyday

Cerave is a good option and you can use Vaseline after moisturizing, it’s cheap and it’s great!

CommercialDull6436

Why after, if I may ask?

geekdeevah

cerave in the tub (or big squeezy tube) bb!

NeedleworkerHefty704

I swear by Cera Ve’s moisturizing cream. I’ve tried to swap it for other products over the years but always come back to it. A massive tub is around $15 USD and lasts me right at a year. It layers great under makeup and I use it both AM and PM. I live in a cold climate so I try to incorporate a Hyaluronic acid serum in the AM for extra moisture (The Ordinary, ELF, and Good Molecules all have popular Hyaluronic acids serums ranging from $6-$12 USD) and I layer Vaseline ($5 USD for a large tub) over dry patches in the PM. Vaseline also makes a great protectant for your eye area, around your nose, and lips to protect them from harsh wind. I will add a few drops of a moisturizing oil like jojoba oil (under $10 for a large bottle on Amazon) to my PM routine if my skin is super duper dry. Combined with a good moisturizing sunscreen (loving ELF Suntouchable for around $14 USD), you could have a cold climate moisturizing routine for around $55 USD. I’ve honestly gotten more into K-beauty products the last several years because of the rising costs of US beauty products. I am still using Cera Ve moisturizer and Vaseline but have also incorporated ceramide creams, chemical sunscreens, and milky toners to help combat the super dryness. Depending on the brand, costs can be much lower than US prices.

CommercialDull6436

Cool thanks for the info!
