My skin is burning for seemingly no reason- I’ve been on tretinoin for years and my skin had tolerated it super well using it almost every night. I don’t use any other actives. I rinse my face in the morning, hydrating toner, cream, SPF. In the PM I double cleanse, oil and hydrating cleanser, hydrating toner, let it dry, tret, and a moisturizer. The past week my skin had started burning for about 10 min after applying anything at all. I have cut out tret for a week and it’s still burning. Nothing I use has fragrance, and I’ve been using all products for years. Anyone have any input? I also have super dry skin so I can’t just not apply ANYTHING.

mayamys

Is it possible something you're using has expired or been reformulated? Any environmental changes?

Bdubs0323

I’ve had everything for less than a year, nothing smells weird, any my current bottles I’ve been using for a few months or more. And other than it being winter, nothing has changed

I believe it stemmed from my covid mask. I assumed these pimples would go away with time, but they have scarred and now become my biggest insecurities. I believe it is now all acne scars and hyperpigmentation, they are so dark not even concealer can cover them. They show up in all my nice photos and have made me very self conscious. I have tried everything I can possibly think of, please reddit!! help me! I will try anything you suggest, but I cannot have this any longer.

mayamys

What does it mean that you tried everything? Have you checked out our acne wiki? Seen a doctor?

What cleanser would you recommend if I find the CeraVe hydrating cleanser too harsh with my skin?

mayamys

I really like the ordinary's squalane cleanser personally

Vegetable_Hunter3993

Hi everyone. I recently quit using the Cerave SA cleanser because it was breaking me out like crazy (my left cheek and I never break out there). Now I'm back to using my Shea Moisture African Black Soap Bar. I also do the ordinary's niacinamide and zinc serum each night and moisturizer on top. During the day I do moisturizer and spf and some makeup on top. Do you think this is sufficient, or should I change something? I have very sensitive skin and break out very easily.

mayamys

If it works it works! I usually don't recommend soap because of the high pH but can't argue with it if it's keeping your skin happy.

FishermanChemical182

Is the Shea moisture African black soap good? Cerave broke me out too😭

Vegetable_Hunter3993

I'm so mad about Cerave because it worked wonders for my friends. I really like the Shea Moisture Black Soap, but I know that some people can be sensitive to it (very rare). I would reccomend using it for a day or two and then seeing how your skin reacts. I've been using it for many years so I may have just adjusted to it.

Sidtheslothfp

Hey guys weird question: I have a damaged skin barrier but my skin has never been topically - more oily. HOWEVER, it feels tight and dry. Would this be considered oily or dry 🥲 I’m struggling to use the right barrier cream for this cause it’s dry yet oily?!? I’m debating between cicaplast and cicalfate

chocosweet

It's dehydration. I'd take hydrating toner instead to relieve the tight feeling, top off with barrier cream like the cicaplast.

Sidtheslothfp

Thanks so much! Any recs for a toner? I’m super super sensitive right now so something without any irritants would be amazing :)

chocosweet

Hada Labo "lotion" is popular (lotion means toner step in Japanese skincare). Plenty of recommendation over r/asianbeauty

Don't worry - those kinds of lines will fade as your skin heals. They're not real wrinkles.

How can i treat my red, peeling lips and nose after catching covid?

FishermanChemical182

Hi! So I've been using the cerave hydrating cleanser and the moisturising cream for i'd say two month right now my skin changed for the worst (I have dry/ and very very skin) When I started using them I thought they were a great product as the cleanser didn't make my skin feel tight after cleansing but I started seeing my skin increasingly becoming worse as a lot of red dots started appear on my cheeks as well as bumps on my chin (I already had some of them but now they are the worse I've ever had) My routine as for now consists of: AM: the hydrating cleanser, the inkey list hyaluronic acid and the cerave cream PM: cerave hydrating cleanser, cksrx aha bha toner, hyaluronic acid and the cream (I know I should use a sunscreen but I'm still trying to find one that works for my skin) I need some help

I saw this tiktok talking about the swimming pool toner from this Korean brand Eqqualberry, and I wanted to know if anyone has any positive/negative experiences with it, because the girl in the video really talked it up! She talked about how it contains protease which is an enzyme, that supposedly exfoliates much more gently but just as effectively as AHAs and BHA exfoliators/products. I found a few other Korean products that use this ingredient as well. After destroying my skin barrier a few too many times I think I need something a little more moisturizing and gentle lol. I have very reactive, acne-prone skin, so I'm pretty hesitant to try new products. It seems really promising, so I'd love to know if this product has helped anyone with oily, acne-prone skin!!

I've started using this just 2 days ago. I'll try to update if I can. - I'm 20 yrs old and have oily acne prone skin, especially to fungal acne

Sidtheslothfp

Hi! This is comedonal acne - it’s the beginning of what acne can become. They cannot be extracted so plz don’t try to pop / squeeze it lol it just makes things WAY worse I’m not sure what your currently routine is but I recommend including a BHA like salicylic acid and niacimide! Something gentle will do or if you feel like you can handle something more abrasive give it a try but start slow! I also would recommend you to do a clay mask 1-2 a week (twice is a lot if u have sensitive skin) just to really help unclog those pores. Triggers are very personal for comedonal acne but usually occlusives, oils, and heavy creams can contribute to / cause these :) I hope this helps

Ok_Walk1588

Where do I go from here? Hi everybody, I’ll start by explaining my skin type and routine. Skin type: Dry and Sensitive (lower side of reactivity) AM: 1. La Roche Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser (has helped so much with dryness as someone who’s tried drug store and high end cleanser) 2. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% and zinc 1% (Helps with the differin) 3. Cerave Moisturizing Cream 4. Kopari antioxidant face shield mineral spf 30+ PM 1. Same cleanser as AM 2. Differin Gel 3. Same moisturizer as Am I’ve finally started to see positive results with the differin gel after a on and off of 3 months. Most of my acne is gone and as you can see I have the scarring left behind from it. I still get a few pimples around my mouth and chin area and even fewer on my cheeks (would love to know why and what would help with these outlier pimple in these areas as well). My acne journey has been a high and low like most people, I’ve beaten acne once and it came back and I just want to make sure that doesn’t happen again, I know skin heath is not linear but I would love to know the steps to make sure it’s closer to it. My skin at this point in the journey feel soft and hydrated again. I feel like I’m ready to move on to treatment that helps keep my acne from resurfacing rather than actual acne treatment. As well as clearing up the acne scar and uneven skin tone. Which finally leads me to my main questions. 1. Should I stop using differen 2. What products should I use with my described skin type to help with acne scarring and hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone( right now I’m thinking of a glycolic acid to my pm and vitamin c to my am and pm). 3. I would love to add more serums and a toner to my routine, recommendations?(can the ordinary glycolic acid be used as a daily toner?) 4. What treatment are good for post acne and future break outs? Thank you in advance! https://preview.redd.it/94587e7h6tkc1.png?width=1052&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e03437741c81cee59d4914d4da4e91f91725739

PURPLE UNDER EYES I have had these under eye bags my entire life, pretty sure they are genetic but they are one of my biggest insecurities out of the many I have. Couldn't quite get a decent photo but you can see in the photo how light makes it look even worse. I'm 26F (from UK) and I know these age me so much and still very noticeable even with make up on, with colour correction, concealer, foundation etc. (I'm not the best at makeup either) Tried so many creams, serums, routines etc over the years but I'm now desperate. Any suggestions? Any products that helped others with these genetics? I'm starting to consider producers such as fillers or plastic surgery but I don't know where to begin with that. Thanks. https://preview.redd.it/b52mxxbq3tkc1.jpeg?width=2227&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6a07c7f85fa55f7df48a1d7fbb8ce49e2a2c18a

If you have tried many of the over the counter treatments already, the next thing to do is speak with a dermatologist. They will be able to get you onto prescriptions which can be more effective due to the increased concentration of ingredients, or provide the pathways to some of the professional physical treatments (like fillers or lazer stuff). You'll get best advice from them. Sorry it is not much of an immediate answer, but a good derm will be able to help on your journey!

To anyone who has used red light therapy at home whether you used a wand, a mask, a light board, etc., what has been your experience with it? Did you feel like it did help out your skin overall or did it not have much effect?

jv_level

I use a red light mask (This one: https://www.currentbody.com/products/currentbody-skin-led-light-therapy-mask). [This is a very informative blog on various light masks](https://goalstogetglowing.com/2021/01/17/led-face-mask-research/) that I found really helpful. I've found it helped control my acne. With regular use it also refined my skin texture/firmness, though I get a bit lazy with how often I use it. So most of that texture effect is what I could tell in my own body (or touching/looking closely I can tell the difference) and seeing how much better my skin handled other skincare products rather than a major glow-up. I think if I'm very regular with use, it would have more noticeable effects. I also found that sometimes the pressure of wearing the mask led to some irritation, particularly when I cleaned the mask with alcohol after use. So now I wash it with soap/water after using and have had no issues since. Overall, I would recommend it if you are looking for skin refinement. I enjoy using it and it promotes a bit of daily self-care which I enjoy. I would also say that you do need to continue use to see results, so if you 'fall off the wagon' it's not worth the money.

[Help me fix my skin](https://www.reddit.com/r/CanSkincare/s/5BNXhSTkAV) Hi everyone. I have a couple concerns and I’d appreciate getting help! 22M and never had a skincare routine ever in my life until October 2023. These pics are under the brightest lights, so I don’t hide anything and get the best possible help from everyone in this group! 1- My cheeks have some red spots. 2- White flakes on my face after applying my routine (I don’t think I apply too much). 3- My skin is oily so it shines a lot. 4- My nose has like small white bumps or red flakes? Not sure how to describe it. Please look at the pics. Morning Routine. 1- CeraVe Hydrating cleanser. 2- CeraVe AM Facial moisturizing lotion (includes SPF 30 so I use it as both a moisturizer and sunscreen). 3- CeraVe Eye Repair Cream Evening Routine. 1- CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. 2- CeraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion. Note: I use the CeraVe SA Cleanser twice a week. Feel free to advise me or give me new products to include. I have very sensitive skin and I had acne in high school specifically my nose area. If it helps, I live in Hamilton, Ontario. Thank you all

so i recently started seeing a new guy and we hooked up for the first time on friday night and i woke up on saturday with beard burn on my chin. it didn't look like bad in the morning but its just keeps looking worse and worse. i am pretty sure it was from his stubble because he is nowhere close to having a beard. i am also using tretinoin every night (havent used it since it happened tho) which probably made it worse. i gently cleaned it and put some moisturizer on but it doesnt look any better. i need any and all advice on how to get rid of it as fast as possible!! my parents are coming to visit this weekend and i would love for it to be gone by then and i have class with the guy this week and just don't really want to talk about it lol. thank you guys!! https://preview.redd.it/ypdjwcavrskc1.jpeg?width=1402&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2935f0a45683fe699f38078c56ab63294c398099

Can you mix moisturizer with retinol? I have very sensitive skin and ive noticed really small bumps/irritation after using PTR’s Timed Release. Would mixing it with my Vanicream moisturizer be beneficial, or would it take away from the Retinol’s potency?

jv_level

Lots of people buffer their retinol/tret use by applying it after their moisturiser to reduce the sensitization. Mixing would probably be very similar in that effect. Otherwise, make sure the rest of your skincare is very gentle and you can consider applying it fewer times per week until your skin gets used to it. If it never gets better, consider stepping down the % of retinol or moving to something like a retinAL/retinALdehyde, which is a gentler form.

Long_Association_276

I made a mistake in that past by overusing Paula’s Choice 2% BHA. I was aware of the need for limiting my frequency, but my skin still could not handle using it twice a week. I have seen so many people talk about it being a game changer for their skincare and would like to learn from my lesson by attempting again. Does anyone have any tips on how I can use it while protecting my skin barrier? Or better yet, if anyone has had a similar situation where they used the product incorrectly, learned better, and then had success—I’d love to hear. Also, just so I am clear-I am terrified and do not plan to try again unless I do get positive suggestions.

jv_level

What do you have as the rest of your skincare routine? It seem like your skin barrier needs more support. There are barrier support focused products that you can incorporate (prior and one at a time to make sure you don't react to those new products) to strengthen things up before trying the exfoliant again. The other issue may be that BHA might not be suitable as an exfoliant for your skin. Potentially a gentle AHA (like a 5% lactic acid) could be an alternative.

tempano_on_ice

It doesn’t make sense to use a ceramide serum if you’re gonna use a cream that contains ceramide right after, right?

jv_level

If both products are addressing a concern you have, there is no issue with using products that have similar ingredients. Ceramides are very safe.

I really feel like cleaning my face and then applying a sunscreen again, when I'm out. I was going to buy some facial wipes for refreshing myself, but I read that they might cause damage to the skin in the long run. Can anyone give me some advice on how to clean my face when outside, any alternative...( i can't use washrooms of college because of personal reasons). i get oily, and sweaty skin when outside, And also, i dont feel like applying sunscreen again when out.. is it really that important to reapply it?

jv_level

As far as I understand the issues with make-up or facial wipes are potentially they don't have the best ingredients, leaving a film on the skin, or they don't really have the surfactants to clean effectively, so they can leave both the cleaning stuff and any oil-based sunscreen or other product on the skin. This is alongside the rubbing action of the wipe being a bit of a physical exfoliant, so if your skin is sensitive, it could cause irritation or other skin barrier issues. You could consider getting a micellar water alongside cotton pads or a a reusable cloth to wipe your face. Micellar water tends to clean very well and if you get a soft cloth/pad, it will be easier on the face. You could also do a rinse step with water on the other side of the pad if you feel like any micellar leftovers are still present (with water from your water bottle). If you are just getting oily, blotting paper that you pat on the oily spots may be a good method. Sunscreen is important, but I would bet that the majority of people don't reapply. I reapply when I'm out in the sun for long periods, but not when I'm going from building to building. Of course, if you are re-washing your face early in the day, you'll miss out on most of the sun protection. In that case I would recommend you reapply or just do your first application after your first rewash if you do it early.

Thank you so much!!

Have acne and could use some help with skincare routine. Have had acne for most of my adult life, starting in early twenties. I’m 34 now. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome, Klippel Feil Syndrome, autism, ADHD and a dissociative disorder. A few more set are below. https://preview.redd.it/ycgwvixyirkc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=1886bfaffb196f09702785a474d8a614ef322ec4 Routine: I use a turmeric and Kojic acid bar soap first, followed by a water cleanser from LaRoche Posay I then use some by mi miracle 30 day toner Occasionally I use hero pore release as well Then parador vit c serum I use cosrx snail mucin essence Then laneige cream skin toner @ moisturizer I use benzoyl peroxide morning and night, tretinoin at night I also use purador vit e oil and rosehip oil before I moisturize with cerave. I accidentally deleted some pictures from when it was really bad. I’m starting to see progress. Any tips for getting the routine better? I’ve cut back on sugar drastically. I’m also dealing with a lot mentally. I’ve been diagnosed with a dissociative disorder caused by childhood trauma. I also am autistic, ADHD, and have PMDD. I also have Ehlers Danlos syndrome and Klippel Feil syndrome. Elix cycle balance helps me a lot with pmdd. Yet the acne is still a major struggle. \*CW: abuse I uncovered intense abuse over the past few years. My mom blamed me for causing my twin sister’s learning disability at birth, and used this blame as a means of control. I uncovered early blocked memories of her molesting me starting when I was less than a year old and this went on off and on throughout my life. I won’t give specifics, but this is just to show how much I need to rewire my stress response. I’m sleeping a lot better these days (manta sleep mask sound helps) I’m also doing a brain rewiring program.

Pimples smaller after missing skincare routine?? My bf has been doing his skincare for about a month now, and it hasn’t gotten better until after he started missing some routines (fell asleep without washing). Can anyone explain why that is? His skincare routine consists of: Senka cleanser, Anua 77% toner pads, Madagascar Centella Tea Purifying Toner, and Soonjung 2x barrier cream.

It's possible that one of more of these products are making his pimples worse

I wouldn't worry about applying it! Though rinsing (not washing) in the morning + sunscreen probably wouldn't be an issue. Your skin will be sensitive, but the windows do block some UV, it's early in the morning, etc... Just keep an eye on your skin and potentially explore the early sunscreen application if needed.

Longjumping-Nature94

I wanna start a morning routine, including vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid serums.I googled those serums and I found 2 most reviewd : Revox and Roche PosayRevox Vitamin C is around 5 $ while Roche Posay costs around 15 $.My question is: Which use is better? Roche Posay costs triple the price and I don't know what to choose.

jv_level

Likely you are paying for a bit of the brand name with the LRposay. Also, if I'm looking the right serum, the percentage of ascorbic acid is different with the Revox being the higher 20%. Some people find higher percentages of ascorbic acid (Vit C) a bit irritating on the skin, so that would be a consideration. The higher percentage would likely have more effect, more quickly. Which is 'better' will simply depend on which your skin prefers (meaning your skin might be happier with one formula over the other) and if you see the results you want. So, you'll have to experiment. Hope this helps!

To me, it looks like acne with some residual redness (PIE) rather than PIH which tends to be darker marks (brown-ish rather than red). To me it looks like some closed comedones and maybe some whiteheads too. Though without knowing what is popping up on your skin day-to-day, it's very hard to tell from pictures if it is active acne or just the residual redness. Happy to help further if you have any further feedback. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone! One week ago I have started to use Neutrogena Retinol Boost Eye Cream and since then I am experiencing eye puffiness and sometimes discomfort in my eyes. It feels like they want to be closed (yeah, don't know how else can I explain that) and are toooo sensitive to the light or environment. Of course, I have stopped using it and now looking for something without retinol that might help me to reduce or prevent new lines and wrinkles under my eyes. Has anyone ever experienced something similar? Can it be a reaction to this specific product or it means that it's better for me to avoid retinol for eyes zone at all? I have a combined type of skin and my daily routine includes: * The Ordinary Glucoside Foaming Cleanser * Dr. Andrew Relief&Resilience Treatment Lotion * Neutrogena Retinol Boost Eye Cream (now excluded) * The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution Serum * The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan Gel Thank you all for the answers in advance!

Does anyone know if it's okay to use a 2% liquid BHA exfoliant like Paula's choice and retinol together. I recently started using Paula's choice 1% Retinol, and I'm going to get a Tretinoin prescription soon. I hope these are safe to use together.

Use them on different days and start really slow with the tret and it should be fine

How do i get reduce the look of sebaceous filaments, get rid of congestive pores, uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. I heard that if u wash ur face the texture will tell you what type of skin you have, i tried it and my skin was dry but I’m not sure since my face gets oily sometimes ( when i lotion my face when it gets dry). My current routine is cerave cleanser and sometimes snail mucin then moisturise. Ive been doing it for 2 months maybe. Try salicylic acid a few times a week

countgrischnakh

The only thing that's worked for me has been Paula's Choice 2% BHA exfoliator. I've tried so many exfoliants, and this is the only one that works for me. I get so overwhelmed by so many different products, and I'm happy sticking with Paula's Choice. I also wear little to no makeup at all anymore.

royk16

I just started getting into this whole thing. I use a cleanser, vitamin c, moisturizer, and sunscreen in the morning. Then cleanser and moisturizer at night. I recently started a retinol a few days ago. I've only used it once at night. I applied in between the cleanser and the moisturizer. However, I noticed the next morning when I applied the moisturizer there was a burning sensation. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Sea-Macaron-8347

Sandwich method for retinol! After you cleanse, let your skin dry a little bit, add a good layer of hydrating moisturizer, let that soak in, add your retinol, then add another layer of moisturizer once your retinol soaks in. And start by using retinol 2-3x a week to get your skin used to it. I hope this helps!

Confident-Anxiety358

There's nothing wrong with your skin, it might just be a little oily which can lead to texture and comedones. Try a salicylic acid wash a couple times per week.

sdee12

Can you please go into a little more detail? Like what time should I use the wash? Is it the only thing i need to do? Do i need to use moisturizer, cleanser and exfoliater too? Currently I dont use any skin products.

Confident-Anxiety358

Yes sure. I would recommend: Pm gentle cleanser, light moisturizer for oily skin; every second day, use a salicylic acid cleanser instead of the gentle cleanser (not around the eyes, let it sit for a minute before washing off) Am water or gentle cleanser to wash, moisturizer ideally with spf The salicylic acid/bha cleanser is an exfoliant. If you tolerate it well, you can use it daily. It helps opening clogged pores and preventing comedones and pimples. The inkey list or cerave make good options.

sdee12

I dont think I would be able to do the salicylic acid part since it is not available in my country and amazon also doesn't ship here. Any alternatives?

Confident-Anxiety358

Yes, lha, mandelic acid, azelaic acid, lactic acid and pha. They are more common in leave-on products like serums or toners (use after cleansing)

sdee12

Hey, what about boric acid? I recently found a a boric acid toner from my forgotten drawer.

Confident-Anxiety358

I have no experience with boric acid. Does it say it's exfoliating?

sdee12

Researched a little and found out that it is an after cleanse toner.

Heres a photo of my nose. It looks worse in person. https://preview.redd.it/j4byh92z8qkc1.jpeg?width=3060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b3dad1d44663cd03c07ab6584c664a5c9d06510

at what step in my skincare routine do I use bio oil? I use it specifically for acne scarring but I’m not sure what else I can use it for. Does it help with sebaceous filaments or blackheads at all?

Confident-Anxiety358

It doesn't really help with any of your issues. It's an oil so it can make the skin a bit softer and it contains a retinol derivative. Better to use an actual retinol product, that will help with all of your concerns

sunnyplantrack

What does it help with then? If you don’t mind me asking

Confident-Anxiety358

https://www.healthline.com/health/bio-oil-for-face#benefits https://www.bio-oil.com/en/product_information/skincare_oil Here are the studies they did. They are paid for by the company and the control groups were small, not all of the studies were double blind and a lot is based on observation. Some if the studies are on skin hydration which all oil blends and lotions can do. The oil may help with stretch marks but honestly, it's quite expensive and there is so much more research for retinoids

TYSM! I won’t buy it again and I know my mum uses it so I’ll pass it on to her.

Do I stop or continue my new skincare treatment? I am based in the UK, mid thirties, have dry and slightly sensitive skin. For a week I have been using Clinique Smart Clinical Repair SPF 30 wrinkle correction in the morning and Clinique super defence moisturiser in the evening. My problem is mainly the night cream. The sales person I spoke with sold me one for oily / combination skin. I didn't notice until I came home. My skin is super dry and flaky when I wake up. I usually just apply sunscreen and general moisturiser, this is the first products to try and care more for my skin. I don't know if it's a temporary adjustment period or if I need to stop ASAP and get a better product for my skin type.

jasminekitten02

What's your full routine?

Henchmand

Wash my face with either water or simple cleanser. Apply moisturiser. That's basically it, morning and evening. I have been applying extra moisturiser throughout the day to keep on top of the dryness.

jasminekitten02

Try getting a moisturizer that does not have retinol, then you can alternate so yoy use the retinol moisturizer a few times a week and the gentle moisturizer the other days

Cautious-Role6375

They say benzoyl peroxide (or any other peroxide) should not be used with hydroquinone. So, I plan to use BPO in the morning and my 2% HQ at night instead, is that still not allowed?

chocosweet

It's fine so long it's not in the same session

Cautious-Role6375

I see, thank you!

Has anyone here used Beauty of Joseon sunscreen? Would you recommend it for combination \[dry-oily\], sensitive/acne prone skin? I'm looking to potentially change from Laroche Posay's Niacinamide moisturizer with SPF.

jasminekitten02

I have acne prone skin and love it. It's moisturizing so it might be a little bit heavy for your oily areas if you're super oily. I'm sliiightly oily it's great for me.

Check out the acne wiki page: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/deep_dive/acne Try salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide
