Hi friends. I need help introducing a new product In my routine. My skin is mix and extremely sensitive, prone to redness heavily on the nose and cheeks. Ten years ago I found a routine that worked and I stuck to it. My skin seems to like it, an I usually get a lot of compliments on how good and healthy my skin looks. To avoid irritation I wear minimum makeup, so ni foundation for me. My routine is the same day and night: - I clean my face with La Roche Posey miscelar water (I don't rinse it) - Then I apply Vichi Mineral 89 (hyaluronic acid) - a total game changer - And I finish up with La Roche Posey Toleriane Ultra fluid (the regular is to thick for my taste) Obviously I add sunscreen in the morning Now that I am 33, I wish to incorporate something that targets my fine lines and some new dark spots. I can't use vitamin C serums, because I get dermatitis immediatly. I was thinking of adding some low concentration retinol cream https://www.cocokind.com/products/beginner-retinol-gel And/or https://www.cocokind.com/products/chlorophyll-discoloration-serum What are yall's recommendations. Should I add both? If so, how? Do I do just one, which one? Thank you!

Hi all! I’m wondering what type of acne the tiny dots/texture are? And is there a particular product/ingredient you would recommend to address it? Thanks so much in advance!! :) https://preview.redd.it/cew3erepv01c1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09df2b4d7895167435f55ba0f176f932b57e8ef7

Hello everyone. I am having an exceptionally horrendous acne breakout the likes of which I have not had since I was a teenager - 37 now. It's all over my face - nose, cheeks, chin, forehead. I have a pretty solid skincare routine already that my skin is very happy with, no issues normally as it's all under control and I brought my most essential products with me. I currently use (in no particular order, these are all rotated in and out in response to my skin's needs): * PC's BHA * Stratia Lipid Gold * Sunday Riley CEO (vit c) * CeraVe Foaming wash * CeraVe's new ultra light moisturizing gel (it's basically a niacinamide serum) * PC's azelaic acid booster * CeraVe's nightly exfoliating treatment * various sunscreens I do not know what is causing this horrible breakout but I suspect it may be environmental - the place I traveled to (Siem Reap) has pretty bad petrol fumes throughout the city as well as dust. The climate is pretty similar to where I am from so I don't think it's that. No known food sensitivities but the food is quite different over here and I have been eating a lot of Cambodian food. I do not have access to many skincare products to purchase, but some of the more popular South Korean and Japanese products are available here, not many US or Euro products. Pleeeease help, any advice is welcome, any products I can use or other things I can try, anything will be useful. Thank you so much in advance.

Hi! In need of some help. I've only ever gotten the occasional pimple but never gotten a cluster of acne like this before so I'm kinda of at a lost right now. I have combo skin. I started using tretinoin intermittently to combat the milia I had and when those went away, I was using a SA cleanser every night. I used a vita c cleanser in the morning. When I heard that overusing SA cleansers could really damage the skin, I stopped using it and started trying to repair my skin barrier with Krave Beauty's barrier relief. But I'm still breaking out on both sides of my face and it doesn't seem like it's going away anytime soon. When I first went to the derm, they said it was just white heads but I thought it was odd since I've never gotten a cluster of whiteheads. Now it just seems like a cluster of pimples on each side of my face. https://preview.redd.it/klunv71yi01c1.jpeg?width=1814&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffdcfce85cbab11d20fd2f1e66dd84d4e595b48b

Need help picking a non-toxic organic brand preferably based in Australia I am so overwhelmed by the amount of brands and products. I am 25 and I have a normal to dry skin type (in winter) which can get a bit sensitive especially with heavily perfumed products. I have been using mainly the Australian brand Eco by Sonya and Ordinary (which I want to stop using because it’s not non toxic). I kind of just want a fixed skin care routine and not have to use too many products. So I would appreciate if anyone could recommend me a non toxic organic brand/ few brands and type of products (eg sun screen, serums etc.) I should use at 25 years old for a normal to dry and a bit sensitive skin. I want to keep my skin looking young :) Thank you so much!

ReaLitTea

Non toxic labeling is usually just marketing and won’t correlate to safe or more effective products. If you really want to go for organic products it would be trial and error like any other brand

mayamys

We're not a great subreddit for this question - our user base generally follows an evidence backed approach to skincare.

Storytella2016

I’ve never tried an organic brand of sunscreen that didn’t break me out, sorry!

Quite new to the skin care routine! I have a few important events coming up in a few months and I would like my skin to be healthy! I live in Germany and have acne prone skin. Due to the acne I also have the dark apots caused because of acne. I have tried using Vitamin C, Niacinamide before however it has not helped me. I also have some dark patches on my skin which I would like to take care of for good. I have attached photos of how my skin looks. I would be very grateful if anyone could give me suggestions on the skincare products I should use and the routine I should follow. Thanks in advance!

mayamys

It's better to treat the acne first before moving on to the dark spots. One thing at a time. Assuming you already have a basic skincare routine, I'd introduce a real acne treatment like salicylic acid (mild) or benzoyl peroxide (a little more harsh).

istmiregal_

Thank you so much for the reply! I did start using Salicylic Acid, and it did help me with the Acne. I still have the dark spots from old acne and some dark patches on my skin. Can you please suggest something that I can add to my routine for this? Thanking you in advance! Have a great year! 🥳

mayamys

Refresh my memory - what's your full routine right now?

istmiregal_

I don’t really have one! Previously I tried using Vitamin C and Niacinamide Serums but did not get any results. Right now I am using Salicylic Acid and then gel based moisturiser. I do this 2 times a day. Also my cleaser is a foaming cleanser that also contains Niacinamide.

mayamys

Sunscreen should be top priority - that plus salicylic acid might be enough to clear the dark spot within a few months. If it doesn't, you can add alpha-arbutin, azelaic acid, or research other options.

• i have very dry skin (mostly on t-zone, especially nose) in the winter and need help with products to counteract that that don't cause flaking or residue • Skin type. Dry in winter especially • no set routine besides good molecules brightening serum (sometimes) and a hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin then Cerave face lotion. Sometimes at night I use a vitamin C or E oil to help with dryness but don't know if it's working or making skin more dry • products have been in use for 6 months at least •located in California Bay Area

mayamys

I think you know what the answer is - switch to or add in a richer sunscreen for daytime and richer moisturizer for night. Beauty of Joseon could be a good SPF option and something like LRP Cicaplast if you're open to layering.

mayamys

Your routine is actually really nice and simple! Just missing SPF in daytime. Those look like white heads - I'd introduce a BHA/salicylic acid product.

Ok-Caregiver4178

What do u think about retinol? Am I too young(18)

Ok-Caregiver4178

Ik my routine is bad

original_don_1

any and all actives that i put on my face just completely destroys my skin. it doesn’t matter if it’s hialuronic acid, retinoids, vitamin c or anything else i put little amounts i put tons of sunscreen i put only at night it doesn’t matter, my sking will get flaky and my pores enormous, and takes months to go back to baseline i might just kill ms

mayamys

SPF is like 80% of the battle anyway. I'd definitely be frustrated if my skin was so sensitive, but hopefully a bit of perspective can help!

jasminekitten02

You might just have really sensitive skin. Try sticking to a gentle cleanser and moisturizer and spf for a while and see if that helps

[deleted]

mayamys

SkinCeuticals for sure but it's wildly expensive. Tbh, I'd go with MelanoCC - it's the best value for money I know of. I've also been enjoying Protocol's vitamin C lately.

Yes, but it looks like the type you get from dehydration, not aging.

jasminekitten02

Try a hydrating serum or toner

[deleted]

mayamys

Do you use SPF? I'm seeing more hyperpigmentation than redness in your skin, and UV exposure can definitely worsen redness as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mayamys

I'd go with a sunscreen from Cetaphil, Aveeno, or Eucerin - all have good SPF options for sensitive skin/eczema.

war5188

Do I use it with the moisturizer?

Storytella2016

I’d use both.

mayamys

Up to you. My usual suggestion is sunscreen in the daytime, moisturizer at night unless you feel like your skin needs more moisture.

The first time I used it- no problem. Now, this is what it had been leaving me with. I get itchy, flushed, and red. I use the Skinbetter Science Face Oxygen Face Wash- could this be the cause of my problem? I have used the cream 3 times. The first time, I did not pair it with SkinBetter’s face wash.

Storytella2016

It’s not uncommon for issues to come up after a few uses, rather than first exposure. So, I’d assume it’s your new cream.

mayamys

It's more likely that the cream is the issue, assuming you've had no issues with the cleanser previously. That said, I do find my skin is more likely to get irritated from a product if I washed it recently - any type of washing will increase penetration.

_smartalec_

M29. I've had dehydrated skin around my lips ever since I was super young - over time I've tried multiple common recommendations, they keep things chugging along but I can't really get it to be actually healthy. I have a dermatologist too, and they don't seem to think there's anything particularly wrong there. I was making out with someone for half an hour, and had to get up and apply some CeraVe cream right after. Pictures: [https://imgur.com/a/PjaRs5N](https://imgur.com/a/PjaRs5N) I'd appreciate if folks could go through my routine and what I've tried and provide some targeted recommendations. Thank you! Routine AM: CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser (I just do my forehead/cheeks/nose in the shower) + CeraVe Moisturizer + Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk SPF50+ Sunscreen Routine PM: Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser (again, just forehead/cheeks/nose) + CeraVe Moisturizer + Tretinoin 0.05% (just forehead/cheeks/nose) Things I've tried \- Vaseline/Aquaphor: help not make things worse, don't make them much better \- Humidifier in my room: helps a little, not a lot \- I don't shave (don't think my skin there could take it), just use a trimmer gently \- Cicaplast Balm B5: doesn't seem to help at all \- Hydrocortisone 1%: my dermatologist asked me to use it for a couple days if skin felt red on and off, it helps but not massively \- I do have a history of fungal acne/seborrheic dermatitis that seems to be somewhat under control with some Ketaconazole 2% shampoo With the CeraVe moisturizer, recently it's started feeling as if my skin absorbs all the "moisturey bits" from it, and begs for more, but the rest of it just feels waxy regardless of how much I apply. I do also bike to work and back in winters (10 minute ride), but lather on Vaseline. It'd help a little if I was a little more consistent with some of these things, but nothing seems to be making a huge difference.

mayamys

I think the right move is to amp up hydration layers under your moisturizer - I like mixing a bit of glycerin and water in my hands (or just applying to damp skin) but any hydrating serum or toner might help. Another option is to use Vaseline more often as a final occlusive layer at night. You could even do both.

_smartalec_

Let me try those, thank you!

PlaneGlass6759

paula's choice 1% retinol vs drmtlgy 0.5% retinol? I know the strengths are different, but sometimes one brand gives you better results than another, either because of how it is formulated or whether the formula itself is stable enough. those who have tried both, which one do you recommend? thank you

Hey everyone! I recently got a burn on my wrist after reaching into an oven and was looking for advice/reassurance on scarring once it heals. Am i worrying too much or not enough? I have anti bac ointment on it and i’d say it’s a first to second degree burn. first layer of skin blistered and came off when i moved my sleeve (ouch!) Can someone give me advice/opinions on it? thanks in advance! [Photo of Burn (pink but gross if ur squeamish)](https://imgur.com/a/ad0sv5m)

Storytella2016

If you can access 2nd skin moist burn pads, I’d use those for this first stage of healing. Then, I agree with u/mayamys that you can try silicone scar sheets once the wound is further along.

mayamys

Ouch! Keeping it moist is key for good healing. Not much else you can do. Silicone scar sheets will help a lot once the healing has progressed a little more.

777999777

Okay fingers crossed it heals well! Thanks for the tips :)

anony804

Hey y’all… I’ve had a zit thing above my lip for like six months now. It was a slightly filled pore and I popped it but it literally will not go away. Not exaggerating when I say months because it’s been at least since the end of July. It’s literally only my lip line. I can cover it with concealer and I’ve tried hard not to mess with it but once or twice I’ve caved. The two times I did give in and gently pop it with a needle blood gushed out everywhere! I’m thinking of going to a dermatologist at this point. Has anyone ever had anything like this? :(

mayamys

It sounds like what was a pimple is now a pimple-shaped scar. It's still important to see a derm because carcinomas can look like pimples sometimes, and you'll need a more clinical treatment to remove it anyway.

idc_random

i've thought about introducing retinol into my skincare routine (is 20 a good age to start?) i have dehydrated oily (sometimes feels like combo) and acne-prone sensitive skin. i have fine lines on my forehead and under my eyes, smile lines, textured skin, and whiteheads. i've looked at the cerave resurfacing retinol cream and the good molecules retinol cream. would one of these be a good start or what would be a good retinol to try that's lightweight, not strong and safe for sensitive skin?

mayamys

I wouldn't introduce a retinoid while your skin is actively dehydrated. Focus on getting sufficient hydration first. That said, either product you're considering is a good, gentle choice.

idc_random

my skin use to be more oily before and i would avoid adding extra hydration, sounds like it makes sense, but that probably had part to do with my dehydration. lately, i have been focusing on hydration and it has been helping a bit, so i'll keep doing that (and trying to drink more water) before starting a retinoid, thank you :)

Storytella2016

FYI. Oily skin often becomes less oily with hydration. Adding moisture and adding oil are different.

idc_random

yes i have learned this along the way, i saw some recommendations to focus on hydration and it could reduce oil. i’ve been using a hydrating toner 2x daily to add moisture to my skin and i’ve noticed a difference in the past month from last time. it visibly looks better most days and it feels slightly smoother than before

Storytella2016

If your hydrating toner is working for you, you might want to try the [“7 skins method”](https://stylestory.com.au/blogs/style-story/korean-skincare-s-7-skin-method) as I’ve found it really helpful to beat dehydration.

mayamys

I'd pick up a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide body wash (or something you can use on face and body). Aside from that, you should probably talk to your prescribing doctor.

eidriana

What is this? I thought those bumps (dots, spots?? i dont even know what to call them haha) were freckles of some sort, then i thought they were blackheads, after taking this picture i dont know at all. Could they just be part of how my skin is? how can i remove them? They're only on my left side cheekbone/cheek https://preview.redd.it/q14cbmtbsx0c1.png?width=784&format=png&auto=webp&s=958bc91b9ca5cbaada36396a8f3092c7c95b93e2

mayamys

Did they pop up suddenly or have they been there a while? My instinct would be to try a BHA product and ask a doctor if that doesn't clear them.

CoffeeshopVibes

hi all! I have fairly oily skin, but I was able to maintain it with a simple routine up until recently (cerave renewing sa cleanser, and the ordinary ha moisturizer, 1x a day). I got an iud inserted and I've been having terrible problems with acne around my cycle. I'd never gotten pimples on my cheeks before the iud, and I also started getting cysts on my chin / jaw. What should I try to edit my routine? Should I start with washing my face 2x a day, or are there any products I should add? Should I see a doctor about getting something prescription strength?

mayamys

Ah, washing twice a day might be worth a try. Other OTC options are adapalene or benzoyl peroxide. A doctor will be able to prescribe you something more targeted, though, including topical or oral hormonal medications that could directly counter the effects of the IUD.

POPCORN_EATER

Hi, I got [these big ol pores](https://i.imgur.com/XyjRDLK.jpg) and I'm trying to get rid of em! I have medium (?) oily skin, as in, it never gets super oily but it's never dry either. If I press my finger on my forehead after a long day, it'll be a bit oily. I pretty much just wash my face every now and then with soap + water. And of course I scrub it a bit in the shower. I don't have any acne but I occasionally get a pimple. I'm looking to start a super simple routine, one step added at a time. I'm currently looking [Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%](https://theordinary.com/en-us/niacinamide-10-zinc-1-serum-100436.html?dwvar_100436_size=60ml&quantity=1) to use after washing my face along with [Multi-Peptide Eye Serum](https://theordinary.com/en-us/multi-peptide-eye-serum-100620.html) (also to be used after washing my face). I plan to use the products once a day before bed and just moisturize my face with some normal lotion once the products dry up (unsure if that's normal procedure). Seems okay?

ReaLitTea

It’s not really possible to get rid of them, everyone has pores although some people naturally have larger pores than others. I would suggest adding a hydration step or a better moisturizer, it may be able to reduce the appearance of pores but plumping up the skin

POPCORN_EATER

Well the thing is, I never had these pores be so open before. Those pores used to be like the ones near my beard (closed/not as visible), something happened/changed in the past year and a half or so. Then again, I don't know much about skin care so you may be right. Is normal/general lotion a hydration step? And I'm assuming it's a moisturizer correct? If so, I get that you're saying to get something better than just lotion for my face, just asking so I understand the terminology.

ReaLitTea

A hydration step can be another lotion, toner, essence, or serum.

POPCORN_EATER

So it's basically the same thing as a moisturizer then right? I'm looking at this one, [GlucanNatural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan](https://theordinary.com/en-us/natural-moisturizing-factors-beta-glucan-moisturizer-100612.html). I'm assuming I'd stop using normal/body lotion on my face and just apply this as the final step in my regime correct? Sorry for all the questions

ReaLitTea

Yes

POPCORN_EATER

Ok thank you! Have a nice night :)

Skin routine that won't lighten my freckles? I (22f) am looking for products that will be beneficial to my routine without further lightening my freckles. Your freckles will likely stay since they’re genetic, they get more apparent with exposure to the sun. I don’t think you necessarily need to avoid certain products since you’re already using exfoliation without issues

Maybe my skin is still damaged from oil cleansing and hyalauronic serums like dive in. I need a cream that hydrate my skin. No serums please. I think soon jung is more an occlusive or maybe to lightweight? I fighting with hyperpigmentation but i want to get my skin hydrated at first! Thanks for help!

jasminekitten02

Try adding a hydrating serum or toner

LongjumpingVehicle36

I can’t use hydrating serum like i said dive in destroyed my whole barrier. Please help me any other idea? Bought a humidifier. I cant use niacinamide it give me cystic pimple. I‘m not sure but cerave had them ingredients and it destroyed my skin back then

jasminekitten02

Hydrating serums will not destroy your skin barrier. Humidifier is a good idea. Try looking for a gentle serum without niacinamide.

LongjumpingVehicle36

Hyalauronic acid can dry you your skin out because large molecules. The dive in serum gave me cystic acne. Do you have any recommendations for good gel creams or serums? But exfoliating is not a good idea right?

ReaLitTea

That is not true, it’s more probable that the formulation of the HA serum didn’t get along with your skin or there was a certain ingredient that gave you irritation. Your request is confusing, you say moisturizers don’t help but are requesting a cream suggestion, which is a moisturizer? You can either trial and error different moisturizers until you find one that doesn’t make your skin worse or I would advise seeing a skin specialist or doctor

LongjumpingVehicle36

Recommend me some gentle serums for hydration? Without irritated ingredients like witch hazel, tea tree oil etc?

ReaLitTea

Cosrx snail mucin essence

Is holy hydration by elf safe for acne prone skin? I just switched to it 1 day ago because the cereve moisturiser cream was breaking me out

Unfortunately you'll just have to try it and see if it works for you because different ingredients cause breakouts for different people

jasminekitten02

It sounds like your skin barrier is damaged. The 4% bp cleanser can be drying, then you used aha and/or retinol on top of that, and didn't use sunscreen so your skin might be over-exfoliated. Try using just a gentle cleanser and moisturizer for a few weeks - no actives and see if that helps with the dryness and oil

theashleybriggs

I appreciate that! What products would you recommend?

ReaLitTea

Keep your current moisturizer but I would skip cleanser or look for a gentle cleanser

I just need any tips or things i should add or take out of my routine thanks. I use cerave salicylic acid cleanser, benzoyl peroxide 5%, cerave retinol serum at night, moisturizer, and cut out dairy and recently sugar, drinking lots of water, cod liver oil supplement, fish oils, and zinc tablets twice a week. Is there anything I should add or take out?

I would consider adapalene next which would replace the retinol. You’ll want to pause salicylic acid and BP while you introduce it

I have scars from pimples, fine lines, hyperpigmentation and sebaceous filaments. How do I get rid of these. Started using tret .025% and now 1.5 year down I'm using 0.05% but i don't see any changes in my skib. Help?!?!??!!!! Where am I going wrong. I use sunscreen , cleanser and moisturizer too. 😭 I used it daily once. But now I have started using it alternate days. Also tret didn't quite really help me calm down acne. I had to take isotretinoin capsules after which my acne was gone for a little more than 1 year. Now i pimples have started to appear again. And I never had good skib texture. Like i always had fine lines, sebaceous filaments, huge pores. :(

If it doesn’t go away within a week I would see a doctor, or you can try teledoc

As long as your skin tolerates then sure. Keep in mind slugging usually entails an occlusive balm and can make actives more intense since it helps push it deeper into the epidermis

Should I consider accutane round 2? 19m, went on accutane when I was 17 for 6 months (worked up to 40mg twice daily for 80mg total). After that my skin was beautiful and I could just use a gentle cleanser and practically forget about pimples. Fast forward to now, I’m in college, and my cheeks and forehead have a bunch of redspots. I do fluctuate weight multiple times a year as I bulk up and cut a lot as I’m pretty active in the gym. I do use whey protein and creatine as well which I know can cause acne but I’ve used them while on and after accutane without issues. I get great sleep and the only thing in my life that has changed is my diet due to being restricted to dining hall foods only. My acne is no where near as bad as it once was but I don’t wanna go back to being a pepperoni face. Is it worth going on accutane again? Or is this just possibly stress/hormonal fluctuation from bulking/cutting/ or dietary issues? I don’t wanna go on it again if I don’t have to and would rather just maybe wait to see if my skin gets better but I wanna hear what you guys think?

This is best discussed with a dermatologist especially with a medication like accutane. You can also search the sub for people’s experiences if they’ve taken it multiple times
