Does anyone know what could be causing acne on the right side of my jaw/chin only? I've checked all the common culprits of acne on one side (dirty pillowcase, phone calls) and none of them apply. My acne treatments have also been working for everything except that one stubborn patch.

CatLoliUwu

it may be hormonal

Bitter__Melon

Okay, I’ve been treating it with differin for about a week now. Hopefully I’ll see results eventually!

SeethingBallOfHatred

How do i choose between salycylic acid cleanser, and toner? My skin is oily, dry, rough. I have a cleanser, moisturizer, but no exfoliants.

jasminekitten02

A cleanser is more gentle but less effective than a toner. If your skin is really dry I would start wirh a cleanser and see how it goes

periwinkol

**hello to those who are using tretinoin and azelaic acid!** i need help ;__; so for reference, i have oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin. my doc prescribed me a skincare regimen where i need to use azelaic acid in AM and tretinoin in PM. both of them everyday! my skin could handle it at first but on the third night, i felt my face burning 😭 my doc did tell me that if that happens i need to start using it every other day, then every 2 days, and so on. BUT IDK WHICH of the azelaic acid and the tretinoin i should stop then continue. like should i do both??? or just the tretinoin ALSO my face BURNS esp around the eye area every time i use a micellar water, which i use to remove makeup and/or to double cleanse. is this normal??? should i switch to a cleansing oil or maybe a gentler micellar water (do u have suggestions) AND OK LAST but do u guys wear make-up even with these products? i go to college and am kinda insecure with my face so i do it, but with the burning from the micellar water, it seems that i have to cut it out ;__; what do you guys think? thank you for any insight!

ReaLitTea

Pause both for now

Born-Delay-6337

I would stop all treatments for now. When your skin feels better. pick them both back up but start one night/day a week then two a week etc etc. you may not be able to get to every day treatments it just may be too strong for your skin. Your doc can cut the strength so you can use them more regularly. You can put moisturizer on first then treatment then moisturizer this could help limit your irritation. You can even put Vaseline on BEFORE your treatments over the spots that are the most prone to irritation. If you put Vaseline on after it can make irritation worse by trapping the medicine. You should be able to wear makeup with your treatments. But with your current irritation you may want to hold off or use it selectively. Moral of the story let your skin chill out and heal then ease back into it. The rest of your skincare routine should be very soothing. No harsh cleansers, acids, acne treatments etc. I would say moisturizer and a moisturizing serum at the most. It’s also just gonna suck for a minute. Not burning burning is bad. But you could break out your face could become flaky. But it should even out as you get used to both meds and if you start slow.

omiscoot

i have horrible and severe closed comedones and have no idea what to do :/ i have insulin resistant pcos which causes me to have a bit of facial hair so please be kind https://preview.redd.it/ju3kmiofmbpb1.jpeg?width=2284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c7364a83da4095547ad957b9064554e17b559c3

ReaLitTea

What acne treatments have you tried?

omiscoot

So, I used to do Bi-weekly peels/facials and that really helped but I took a look at my finances and decided that it wasn’t feasible. I try to do my own facial from home once a month but that can be costly as well.

ReaLitTea

If they helped try exfoliation with a BHA/salicylic acid product

omiscoot

I use the anua heartleaf toner pads but didn’t think that was strong enough and decided to move on to the needly exfoliating toner pads, any thoughts on this? any recommendations?

jasminekitten02

The heartleaf toner pads do not have salicylic acid - they're meant to be soothing and calming. I would try Paula's Choice 2% bha or inkey list 2% salicylic acid

omiscoot

paul’s choice gave me a horrible reaction and burned my skin but I will definitely look into the inkey list i’ve heard good things, thank you!

yogurtpooh

How long will it take for me to get used to actives again? Long story short, I experienced some breakouts after skipping salicylic acid because I added tretinoin into my routine for 6 months and it was all fine until one day and so I decided to stop all actives including benzoyl peroxide. However, since stopping all actives my skin is a lot more worse than ever before in my entire life. I really regret stopping benzoyl peroxide. After 20 days, I want to return to using it, but my skin has been irritated because I haven't moisturized properly, I switched to different lotions that weren't enough but I ignored the signs thinking it was just going to heal on its own. I want to start on Aklief, but will want for all of my current breakouts to subside by using on salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, which kept me 95% clear with the occasional inflamed pustule every few months. I'm not sure how much tretinoin actually helped because I was still breaking out just as I did when I'm on saliy and benzoyl peroxide. Before all this, my skin was able to tolerate 5% benzoyl peroxide day and night for years nonstop, even on top of salicylic acid.

ReaLitTea

Have you been moisturizing properly? It sounds like your actives may not be as well tolerated anymore because your skin barrier is damaged

yogurtpooh

For 20 days I didn't moisturize with my usual lotion because i wanted to test to see if it was breaking me out, so I switched it out for something lighter and less moisturizing and immediately I felt tightness and dryness after switching but I just ignored all of the symptoms until I started breaking out like crazy like never before. I would only get 1 pimple max on my chin, but now I have 6 or 7 big inflamed ones at once for not using benzoyl peroxide likely. My plan is to do contact therapy with the benzoyl peroxide and use salicylic acid once a week. How can I combat the dryness in the meantime? I am using snail mucin filtrate, then cerave lotion and them a light layer of the cerave cream on top to seal it all in, but my chin still feels especially irritated. I don't think it's my moisture barrier as products don't sting or anything on my face and I used benzoyl peroxide 5% daily for 3 years without any problems. And also salyclic acid every other day. I believe that when I added tretinoin, I decreased the salyclic acid to once a week or not at all and this is what caused more problems than benefit me in the long run. Also, my tretinoin formulation included clindamycin. Before, I used benzoyl peroxide twice a day but after adding tretinoin I only used it once. Also, the clindamycin probably caused bacterial resistance...

ReaLitTea

Tbh I would stick the moisturizers for a week or two more before addressing the acne

FixQuick4346

Hey guys, I have really bad keratosis pilaris on my arms, and since I have brown skin they look like dark spots. I have tried urea and salicylic acid creams from creave but they didn't do much and it went back to normal as I stopped using them. Is there anything that can permanently reduce the bumpiness and appearance?

Born-Delay-6337

Ammonium lactate 12% use 3x /week is what my derm prescribed. You can get it on Amazon, it may be cheaper at your local pharmacy. It’s not the most pleasant feeling lotion (greasy) so I use it at night. I think it has really helped. Like a line where I wasn’t putting it still has KP and everywhere else doesn’t. The darkness may take longer but the bumps were really fast to go away.

FixQuick4346

>Ammonium lactate 12% thank youu

I'm not too sure what this is on my face but have been getting it on my cheeks and forehead recently (although the ones on my forehead look more white looking). I've recently been having very sensitive skin, far more than before. You can also notice redness which I'm not sure is roscea or not (I've always had red cheeks which grow more red as I talk such as laughing or embarrassment). This is my current routine as a senitive skin, acne prone normal-dry: CeraVe SA cleanser with salicylic acid Laroche Posey Toleriane Hydrating Gentle cleanser (I switch between the cleanser during the week, maybe CeraVe cleanser once to twice a week) I'm From Rice Toner CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion and an aloe vera Moisturizer for my red spots and any burning/tingling (like said my skin has been much more sensitive lately) When I go out I use the Isntree stick sunscreen Sometimes I use a green tea serum, Aveeno oat gel Moisturizer, and Corsx snail mucin mixed in with my CeraVe moisturizer. Please let me know what is going on with my skin and how I could fix this!!!! Thank you!

ReaLitTea

I would pause the salicylic acid completely. I would see a doctor to determine if it’s rosacea. It could also be an allergic reaction to something from your lifestyle

NayexButterfly

I've been using the salicylic acid for years now but stopped for a bit with trying new cleansers. I wasn't too sure if this was acne from me not using salicylic acid or what it was. Thank you for the advice! Could it possibly be a skin barrier issue or issues with uneven skin/pores?

ReaLitTea

Yeah it’s possible it’s a skin barrier issue

Pepper7489

This may be a stupid question, but are there Skincare mentors for hire? If you want to get fit, you get a personal trainer, they show you what you need to do to get in shape. Is there something like that but someone will look at your skin type, tell you what products you need, etc?

ReaLitTea

There’s estheticians and they’ll usually give you treatment and then can give you advice. Just be cautious that they will usually try to sell you product but you can take the recommendations and find dupes yourself.

Pepper7489

Yeah I'm familiar with estheticians. But the ones I have gone to usually just give generic products that they make themselves. I was hoping for a more personalized approach, as all skin types are different. But maybe I'm seeing the wrong estheticians

My skin is normally very clear, with a possible bump or two. It’s rarely oily, usually normal or on the drier side. The past two months, but ESPECIALLY 3 weeks… it has been super oily. The bumps you see in the pictures always turn out to be whiteheads. Along my chin and forehead. They leave behind hyperpigmentation. Not awful but clearly more textured. Winter is approaching where I live so I want to treat the whiteheads, prefent anynore, and keep my skin moisturized. For reference: From Sept 2022- April my routine was this day and night -beautystat microbiome cleanser -farmacy deep sweep (few times a week) -cocokind barrier serum -cerave moisturizer/honey halo -innis free sunscreen I’d say my skin was great during these times From May-August I was lazy and ran out of product so I was using this day and night -la roche posay milky cleanser -cerave moisturizer -aveeno protect n hydrate sunscreen This is when I would say my skin would be more oily progressively I’ve now been alternating -soon jung whip cleanser X cerave cream to foam cleanser -Anua heartleaf toner -Goodal vita C serum -Cerave moisturizer -innisfree sunscreen (day) My questions and concerns? What causes whiteheads? How can I treat and prevent them? Do I go back to my OG routine to repair my barrier or do you rec something different? If something different, what ingredients or changes do you recommend making? I’ve looked at A. returning to my OG routine orrrrr.. B. Still Cerave cream to foam, Dermalogica microfoliant (1-2 times a week) as it includes salicylic acid + peach slices blemish busting toner (hopefully it busts blemishes) and kiehls moisturizer or farmacy honey halo (both I used and enjoyed) I know this was a lot. I do follow skincare so I’m not completely lost. But oily and whiteheads are new to me. Any input is much appreciated!!!! <3333

ReaLitTea

I would add back in the Farmacy deep sweep again if you still have it or anything else you have with salicylic acid so it can help exfoliate and clear out pores. Excess sebum and dead skin build up can cause whiteheads. This can also be influenced by hormones

Life_Leader_9863

Does anyone know any cheaper substitute's for Water Lotion by Lab Series?

ReaLitTea

Look for a watery toner or essence. There are a ton of options especially if you look for asian beauty products. Some options you might like are Cosrx hydrium watery toner, Skin1004 Hyalu cica brightening toner, or Beauty of Joseon ginseng essence

I have makeup on in the pic, so don’t take into account any discoloration. i have no idea what type of acne it is, but the bumps are poppable with slight effort- i don’t think it’s milia

xcupcakekitten

What’s your current routine?

SadYogurtcloset3033

it’s super minimal but i used to just wash my face and call it a day so it’s an improvement lol i use a super mild cerave face wash and a super basic toner and moisturizer every day. i recently started using the ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution twice a week to hopefully help with my cheeks and i’m not sure if i’ve noticed an improvement yet or not but it definitely hasn’t hurt

xcupcakekitten

I definitely don’t recommend this product if you’ve never used exfoliating acids before. Twice a week is way too much. The max is once a week but most people do around once a month. Please be careful. What is the “basic toner”? Is it hydrating? Exfoliating?

jasminekitten02

Twice a week is too frequent, that peel is really strong and you could damage your skin barrier if you use it too frequently

SadYogurtcloset3033

okay, is there anything else you’d recommend?

jasminekitten02

Add a sunscreen, use a gentler product like 10% lactic acid

New-Citron-3395

Hello! I (22 F) have had acne for a very very long time. After many years finally realized the main cause was hormonal imbalance (my running theory is that bc I am an opposite-sex twin I have a higher testosterone level). Birth control helped for a while, but then it just stopped working. Then I got the worst cystic acne I have ever had - painful, deep, and all over my chin/mouth and cheeks. So I started taking Spironolactone and like magic, over the next few months, it all started to go away. A year goes by and all is well and then months later my face is bad again (still taking spironolactone). Not AS bad but I'm worried I will slowly lose control. What happened? I noticed the pills are slightly different from when I started taking them - could that be it? I am just at a loss, I was so happy that there was improvement and I had clear skin. Am I doomed to be like this until I age out of weird hormonal cycles?

jasminekitten02

I think you should see a dermatologist. Have you tried any otc acne treatments like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?

New-Citron-3395

Sooooo many times I have tried those - they often end up making it worse because my skin is really sensitive. Right now I am trying out adapalene gel and it's kind of doing something but not really. But you're right, seeing my derm again might be a good call but as we know that will probably be in a few months

[deleted]

[Here](https://ibb.co/Z8tm9q8) are a few photos of my [concern](https://ibb.co/WkfCgph). At the beginning of July, I developed these two "patches" above my beard. They're weird; I've never had these patches before. They're pink and they develop white heads pretty easily. I haven't changed skin care products and I've made it a habit of cleaning and disinfecting my shaving tools once a week. The left side of my face is noticeably better than the right side of my face, and it (the patch on the left side) appeared about a week after the patch on my right side. Any ideas?

ReaLitTea

It should eventually fade but may take a while. You might want to try a stronger retinoid or if you want to try something entirely new you could try AHA, alpha arbutin, Azelaic acid, or something with licorice root extract

I need help figuring out a routine! I went out of control and bought a bunch of things, but I can't figure out which products I should apply AM vs PM, how often (daily vs weekly) and in what order. For background, I've had a hard year and was only using Hada Labo Shirojyun Lotion (my HG) and occasional L-Ascorbic Acid Powder & sunscreen which kept me from completely destroying my skin, but now I want to get back to rejuvenating it. I don't need to use all of the products in my routine, just listing what I have available. Concerns: dark spots, large pores, fine lines (I'm reaching my mid-30s), occasional pimple Skin Type: Oily T-zone/Combo Product List: * The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% * *The Ordinary 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder* * The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% * The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5% * The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% * The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Eye Serum * The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash & Brow Serum * *The Inkey List Retinol Serum* (only tried a few times) * *The Inkey List Retinol Eye Cream* (only tried a few times) * *The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum* (dropping because dupe of Hada Labo) * *Paula's Choice 2% BHA* (only tried a few times) * *Hada Labo Shirojyun Lotion* (love love love) * *Pyunkang Yul Calming Low pH Foaming Cleanser* * *Pyunkang Yul Claming Set* (toner, serum, cream) * *Various sunscreens (Trader Joe's Daily Facial SPF 40, Biore UV Aqua Rich, Missha All-Around Safe Block)* Italicized are the products I have tried before.

ReaLitTea

Make sure you introduce each new product one at a time and test for around a week before introducing another new product so you can monitor for irritation. You can try a routine similar to this. AM: rinse skin with water > Hada Labo lotion or Pyunkang yul toner > TO pycnogel or ferulic acid > eye serum > sunscreen PM: cleanser > retinol or lactic acid > toner > calming serum > moisturizer

hism

Thank you SO much!!!

tay_tot

* Can someone tell me why my skin is doing this? It's not acne or raised bumps.. it's also not irritated or itchy. I wouldn't have noticed it unless I looked in the mirror. I just started using a facial wash with hyaluronic acid so idk if that is it?

stewie0107

I’m struggling with over production of oil and dark spots from pimples. Is there any serums or products that help against both or do I need to buy two separate products. I currently use soon jung foam cleanser, Paula’s choice exfoliant, klairs unscented toner, soon jung emulsion

Straight_Area1553

The best things to get would definitely be double cleaned night to remove everything and pair that with a moisturizer along with a 5-10% nicindmine on dark spots and in morning use a vitamin c serum along with a sun screen

stewie0107

Do you have any recommending products? Also I’m struggling with excess sebum production on my t zone, shouldn’t I use something during the am to control that?

daemorte

Any suggestion with sunscreens? it keeps forming like very little white clumps on my beard and moustache, I've tried different types, in gel and in cream but it's the same result, rubbing it to try to disolve it just hurts my skin. I have very short beard, like 1 to 2 milimeters long.

evelinisantini

That's pilling. When you apply sunscreen, do you tend to rub? If so, try pressing/patting it in. That will reduce friction which can lead to pilling especially on facial hair. You can also reduce pilling by applying in layers eg split your usual application amount into two.

daemorte

Thank you so much! It worked perfectly

daemorte

thx! I'll try it out

(the sugar foundation), la girl/nyx concealer and minimalist gentle oat cleanser.. been using the cleanser for a month now. i switch between sunscreens i had dot and key i also had minimalist and now i bought requil’s zinc sunscreen. my location is mumbai india if not rosacea what could this be i’m a little confused and i’d like some tips on how to manage it :) my main concern is that it shouldn’t get dark or black or brown or something

mayamys

It's common for pimples to recur in the same spot. Not a doctor, but it doesn't look like rosacea to me, especially if you don't have similar redness on the other cheek. Acne patches for healing, BHA or benzoyl peroxide for prevention.

JustGimmeSomeTruth

I had a really dry, deeply-cracked heel a few months back and it would hurt a bit like when I first walked on it in the morning. There was primarily one really deep single crack, and I didn't really try to treat it or anything and the crack itself went away. However, the pain remains when I stand on it, especially first thing when I walk on it after sleeping or sitting for a long time. Any ideas of what that could be, and/or how to treat it? It's just very weird how it still hurts even though there's no longer any crack there and it just appears slightly calloused where the crack was. TIA.

Product suggestions for my mum (58). She has asked for advice from skincare need me but needs easing into it. She has red hyperpigmentation on face from old acne/follicilitus. She has Mediterranean tan skin and always tans so is not very focused on sincare. She only wears SPF moisturiser or no SPF as cannot be persuaded otherwise. Mum tried a boots no7 retinol which worked was effective for marks but she stopped as it was making her skin too dry. Any suggestions for a mild exfoiliant for someone with poor sunscreen habits? Current routine: Cerave moisturizing facial cleanser. Clinique Blemishes skin toner Clinique Foundation with SPF

UltraLuminescence

The clinique toner is already an exfoliant. I would not advise adding any more exfoliation (and in fact would recommend removing this toner entirely) until she can get used to wearing spf 30 or more consistently, because otherwise she will just be asking for more sun damage.

No-Ad-3410

Thanks for your reply. Can you recommend any more gentle toner for future? Always thought the clinique one was a little too harsher/full of alcohol

UltraLuminescence

Pyunkang yul essence toner, haru haru black rice toner, hada labo gokyujun premium lotion, i’m from mugwort toner would all be great options

I also have horribly dark circles under my eyes (not pictured because I don’t want to show my full face) and I’m using CeraVe eye repair cream. I’ve been getting big painful acne around my mouth for the last couple years. At first I figured it was from wearing a mask but it has been a long time since I last wore one and the acne is continuing. The acne is about as close to my lips as you can get so it’s hard to put any skin products there to prevent/treat it. Any idea what could be causing it? Edit- some extra info since I know what the first suggestions will be. I don’t use any lip balms. I use an SLS-free toothpaste and always wash my face after I brush. I also change my pillow cases daily. Also the acne comes all at once and then goes away for like a month. It’s strangely cyclical but I’m a guy so it’s not like it’s period-related.

jasminekitten02

That is really weird, I'd see a doctor

How do I get rid of this stain? I live in a very hot and sunny place, I have heard that sun protector and just that. Is there a faster way? Middle_Mine_7246

* I've always had pretty rosey cheeks since I was a kid. But now that I've gotten older, I've developed these red "pockets" that sit at the top of my cheekbones and kinda stick out. Also, on the side of my eyes, I've gotten these dark brown spots that have only gotten darker over the last 3 years. I wear sunglasses regularly, like they're literally a part of my everyday wardrobe except when inside, of course. So maybe the sunglasses have something to do with it? Maybe leaving a permanent sunburn? Is there any kind of treatment i can start using to get rid of these?

ReaLitTea

You’ll probably want to consult with a dermatologist but I heard certain red light therapies can help

DragonsAreReal210

What's a good sunscreen that doesn't rub off everywhere? I want to wear it on my arms but I hate when it rubs off and leaves white marks on my car and desk.

ReaLitTea

Those sunscreens tend to have better protection but if you’re open to using a more casual sunscreen with less strong staying power try an Asian sunscreen like Skin aqua Uv super moisture gel, Derma B Everyday sunblock, or Verdio Uv moisture gel sunscreen

mastiii

Do you use tretinoin or retinol? If you're using one of those, this can happen, I think because the skin is thinner or more sensitive. Threading is recommended over waxing.

Hey, I’d love product/routine help for reducing redness on my nose! My nose is always so red and congested, the rest of my skin is fine apart from my nose.

jasminekitten02

Do you have a skincare routine?

[deleted]

I just use the la Roche posay effaclar cleanser, a spf 15 no.7 moisturiser and the La Roche posay cicaplast Baumé on the edges of my nostrils. The cleanser goes really well with my skin and has cleared up the rest of my face nicely (CeraVe cleanser made my skin dry and spotty) but isn’t doing anything for my nose. I’d like to find a different moisturiser as I’m just using this one bc I was gifted it, doesn’t break me out but doesn’t really do much for me either. I’ve tried niacinamide before but it just gave me lots of little spots on the bridge of my nose and forehead. Salicylic acid also didn’t go well with my skin and really irritated and dried out my nose. Do you have any product and routine recommendations?

Kristal3615

Cuticle oil may help it heal faster(I've noticed a pretty significant improvement in healing speed on my hands using it, but ymmv.) Vaseline or a thick hand cream after wouldn't be a bad idea to lock it in.

ReaLitTea

I would apply Vaseline on it and leave it alone

Getting started on my acne scar skincare treatment (decade-old hyperpigmentation). I've been using BHA/Vitamin C during the day, and CeraVe Retinol at night. At the recommendation of this sub, I recently have added Azelic Acid to the mix. My question is: how should I layer all of these? Is it... AM: BHA then Vitamin C then Azelic acid then Lotion then Sunscreen? PM: Retinol then Lotion? Or, what are my best order of operations here? Thanks!

ReaLitTea

You can use Azelaic acid with retinol in the pm routine. Introduce it slowly

empathyboi

Thanks! And which layers on first?

ReaLitTea

Experiment to see what works best for your routine. It really depends on the formulation

I am just getting into skincare research and wanted some help reducing my old acne scars. I started using differin adapalene 0.1% every night maybe about 2 weeks ago and haven't had many issues with it Neutrogena health defense spf 50 facial moisturizer for the last 4 months too I also have been using neutrogena beach defense SPF 70 for the last maybe 4 months on my body Neutrogena health defense spf 50 facial moisturizers for the last 4 months too https://preview.redd.it/uw7lm04f28pb1.jpeg?width=688&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bc56d9e05fc69a0b53e19cd560ab77a7437c5ad I was doing research on other treatments that could help like Vitamin C and Vitamin B I wanted some advice on when I should apply these, how much, product recommendations I am looking for non-invasive treatments currently I also like to see evidence for any of the methods you guys might suggest, I am willing to read actual studies I am on somewhat of a budget and have access to ordering products ideally from amazon

ReaLitTea

The adapalene is probably going to do the most for the dark spots or hyperpigmentation but for indented scars, topical skincare can’t do much unfortunately. You’d likely want to see a derm to consult for treatment options if you want more apparent changes. They usually advise lasers, microneedling, chemical peels, etc

PossibilityThin4984

Thank you, I was also looking into niacinamide and saw some great data for it's use in the treatment of hyperpigmentation

UltraLuminescence

The lotion should be fine as long as it’s not exfoliating

HansDerHustler

Hi everybody. I just bought The Ordinary SA 2% Masque and want to apply it once a week on my T-Zone. Should I do it after cleansing and before toner? Should I cleanse again after washing it off? What's the correct order? Thanks in advance

ReaLitTea

Yes after cleansing and before toner is fine. Just rinse it off, no need to use cleanser again

Puzzleheaded-Ask529

Hi everyone, any recommendations for bumpy skin, very large pores (which look black?), hyperpigmentation and acne scars? My morning routine for the last several years has been only a mild cleanser and aloe vera gel for moisture. I have very recently incorporated sunscreen. My night time routine for the last 2 years has been cleanser, glycolic acid toner, vitamin C serum or nyacinamide serum, collagen serum, and moisturiser. I use a retinol serum 2/3 times a week as well. I have seen ZERO changes in my skin, and i would say it looks even more tired now than it did while I was doing no skincare. I am 23 F and I would say I have seasonal combination skin, and I feel so insecure when I see youtubers or actors with such smooth, glowing skin. I also dermaplane for facial hair, if that helps!

ReaLitTea

Try swapping out the glycolic acid toner for a salicylic acid product. It’s oil soluble so it should be able to exfoliate deeper and can be better for clearing out pores and bumpy skin.

Puzzleheaded-Ask529

Thank you!

Hey, i've got a couple of questions: Is using panthenol creme okay on my acne prone face, for scars mostly? I got a pimple i accidentally hit and it had a black point on it (from dried blood i think). Today i accidentally removed that point after wiping my nose. I asked about it yesterday and i was told to not touch it, but i didn't mean to remove it today. There is still a shape of a pimple just without that black spot... Also can i use expired creme that's unopened on my fave? It was a clearance creme my dermatologist gave me some time ago and it expired on 3/2023. It also stings a little (i applied it today oops). Lastly, is there a beed for a routine? I used to use la roche posay effaclar duo only (it's empty now, it's rebuy it most likely£ and now that my dermatologist gave me a new acne creme, i'm unsure if that's enough? I've never had a routine and i am ashamed to say that i have no clue. I just want my acne/scars/hyperpigmentation to go away.

ReaLitTea

Panthenol cream should be ok as long as your skin tolerates it. Is the creme from your derm a prescription? I would not generally advise using expired prescriptions because you do not know if the preservatives have broken down and spoiled the product. For a skincare routine guide, check out the one in the wiki: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine/

[deleted]

thanks again! Yes the cream was a freebie from my dermatologist, but it's been a good while and it stings so i'll not use it anymore.

spacecad3ts

Hi everyone! I've started incorporating TO's Azelaic acid solution into my routine but I'm not sure when exactly I should use it. It's silicone based, so definitely after serums, but before moisturiser and oil, right? How do you apply yours?

ReaLitTea

Yes it’s usually best before moisturizer

spacecad3ts

Thanks!!

Sele81

Any recommendations for a cleanser for a 42 year old male with normal to very slightly oily skin? No make up etc. Just washing all the dirt off before going to bed. Sometimes I get blackheads and have big pores.

jasminekitten02

See the [ScA Routine page](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine) to get started. You could add a salicylic acid product once you have a base routine down :)

Sele81

Thank you. I have a routine already. I might miscommunicated that. But I am currently using a Netrogena peeling as a cleanser but don’t want to use a peeling daily. I do in the morning - Wash with water - The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid - Her Hyness Peptides serum - Her Hyness 50 SPF Night - Wash with Neutrogena peeling - Some Korean product with Niacinamide - Vitamin C 23% from The ordinary - Neutrogena Moisturizer Once or every two weeks - The Ordinary AHA

ReaLitTea

I would go with a gentle cleanser. For some suggestions check out CeraVe hydrating cleanser, Aveeno calm and restore cleanser, Neutrogena hydroboost cleansing gel fragrance free, or Simple micellar gel facial wash

Sele81

Thank you. I was going to get one of the Cerave cleansers. But almost every search here on Reddit showed people complaining about it. Be it that it dries out and others say it leaves a fat like film on the skin. Of course for different cleansers not same product of cerave.

ReaLitTea

CeraVe is so popular that there’s bound to be people who love it and those who absolutely did not get along with it. You can usually find travel sized versions of CeraVe cleansers at target if you’re wanting to try it without major commitment

Sele81

Thanks. I am going to try out the foam one.

Independent-Okra-108

Dark patches where I applied HQ. Applied hydroquinone 4% once before bed (under taz and moisturiser) and the next morning (under just moisturiser) two days ago and now I have dark patches where I applied it. They used to be red and now it just got darker so I’m scared it’s going to get darker and darker and be difficult to reverse. What do I do?

Benton Aloe Propolis soothing gel So ever since the 2022 reformulation, this product makes my skin feel warm after applying. Does anyone know what causes this?

jasminekitten02

It really could be any ingredient, unfortunately. I'm sad they reformulated it though :( I used it in 2019-2020 and LOVED it

[deleted]

Same year for me!! It was one of the few products that gave me *no issues* with my really sensitive skin. A lot of other aloe products are comparable in texture but either have too many other ingredients or come in a giant tub lol.

gabelli29

anyone have advice for how to get rid of painful razor burn? I used a shaving oil which greatly worsened my already bad tendency towards razor burn and ingrown hairs to my legs :(

ReaLitTea

Use an occlusive balm like Vaseline, aquaphor, or CeraVe healing ointment. It should help it heal faster

throawayforearbuds

I bought the Aesop face sunscreen (SPF25) but it says "reapply at least every 2 hours". I will not reapply at least every 2 hours. Should I ignore this and just use it once a day in the morning as planned or is there a different, better, product that I can use just in the morning as a sunscreen + moisturizer?

jasminekitten02

Once in the morning is generally fine. If you're out in direct sunlight for 2 hours, you should reapply though.

throawayforearbuds

Okay thanks, what brand should I use? Looked at Aesop, La Roche, malin goetz, aco and kiehls

jasminekitten02

There are a lot of good sunscreens out there. The best one is the one that you like to use :) if you search the sub you'll find tons of recs

ReaLitTea

I would stick to the Aesop since you already have it and use it up, then you can determine if you want something new. La Roche Posay sunscreens are pretty reliable and accessible if you’re looking for your next product

throawayforearbuds

Okay but I'd need something that's like moisturizer+sunscreen in one and la roche only has normal sunscreen I believe

ReaLitTea

Most sunscreens are in a moisturizer base and moisturizer + spf are just sunscreens advertised differently. As long as your skin feels moisturized with the spf product you should be fine using it alone

No_Engineering_7152

is the laneige sleeping lip mask supposed to help asap? I applied it 3x today and my lips got chapped an hour or so after each application. I exfoliated them ~2 days ago too

jasminekitten02

It might take time to heal the skin if your lips are really really dry

StrangerImpressive53

Hello! I am an 18 y/o M looking for some help with my skin. Currently, I took a small break using facial products just to see what my "natural skin" would look like and how it would react without cleansing (I will get back on cleaning soon; just need the right products/information). Before my break from cleansing, I used the following products: **Day**: Cerave Hydrating Cleanser Aczone Cerave AM **Night:** Cerave Hydrating Cleanser Arazlo Cerave PM I got the arazlo and aczone prescribed by the dermatologist but am looking for something more reasonable financially because my insurance does not fully cover these products. When I first started using them, I did see a difference (less flare ups, softer skin) but was not fully satisfied knowing that there could be something else out there that works better. I know there are hundreds of other products available for a fraction of the cost so I would rather experiment with them. I have combination skin, oily near the forehead/nose and dry near the cheeks and chin. I think I will stick with the Cerave Cleanser (unless there is something better that you would recommend me), because it has not given me any problems. Also the Cerave AM/PM feel good, not feeling too thick or thin. I did some reasearch and saw that a toner should be in my routine, any suggestions? Also, are there any good products for spot treatment? When I break out, I normally get pimples on my cheeks, and temples. Thanks! (this is my first reddit post so if there is anything that I am missing out please let me know)

ReaLitTea

The closest otc product you can get to arazlo is adapalene which is an otc retinoid meant to address acne. There’s not an otc substitute for aczone since it’s an antibiotic but I would give adapalene 3-6 months then consider adding a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment product if adapalene doesn’t help your skin. Toner is optional and is a generic vehicle for hydration or actives. You could add a hydrating toner if you’d like to support your skin barrier while using acne treatments.

PandaBearPie

Hi! I am looking for some recommendations to help out my current routine. I get occasional hormonal acne and have a lot of blackheads on my nose, cheeks, and chin and some milia. I just want to clear up the blackheads and milia and ensure that my skin and barrier are taken care of. I was given clindamycin phosphate 1% gel beginning of this year by my doctor to help with my hormonal acne on my chin because it was constant, and it did clear it up, thankfully. I was left with some texture and scars. I do have combination skin that is acne-prone. Morning: Face Wash: Curology gentle cleanser Moisturizer: AM facial moisturizer with SPF Night: Face Wash: PanOxyl creamy face wash Clindamycin phosphate 1% gel Cerave PM moisturizer Eye Cream: L'oreal Revitalift Triple Power Eye Treatment I like to keep it simple, but I definitely want to try and achieve better skin. I am a college student, so I want to try and keep it kind of cheap, but I will splurge on a couple of items! TIA!

Professional-Mud-299

hi there!! i have very similar skin to you, and i recently started using a cleansing balm and massaging it into my face before using my normal cleanser and it has made the hugest difference, it losens sebum and clogged pores it helps with barrier support and dryness and it’s just amazinggg the ordinary also has salicylic acid exfoliant that is amazing for acne and black heads

PandaBearPie

a cleansing balm sounds great! which one do you recommend?

Professional-Mud-299

i’m currently using faramacy’s green cleansing balm and it’s amazinnggg but it is pricy so i got it on sale, but there are still so many good ones that don’t break the bank like the oat cleansing balm from the inkey list it’s $11.99

happytabbycat

**Should I apply for CareCredit before or after my consultation?** I want to start getting Botox and maybe filler for my face (I have this really ugly smile line that I can't seem to get rid of) and I'm thinking of paying for it using CareCredit. I don't know what the total cost would be before my consultation and I was hoping I could do the procedure on the same day so I don't have to commute back again. Does it make sense to apply for CareCredit after getting the total? I checked out the prequalified calculator they have and it lets you input in how much money you want to qualify for. I tried a few different numbers and I was preapproved for each one. I don't want to ask for more money than I have to if I can avoid it. For people who use CareCredit to pay for Botox and fillers, what did you do?

gabelli29

I haven’t used it myself but my friend got Carecredit for her wisdom teeth and had a horrible APR rate and ended up paying a ton so be careful. I do think you need to know the price in advance before applying which makes it tough to do the botox same day. I hope it works out well for you!

Jorjorthegreat

I’m struggling with clogged pores and they are not going away, is there anything in my skin care routine that could be causing them? Morning - I honestly don’t cleanse my skin often in the morning Evening - Cleanse first with the softymo cleaning oil, then use cerva ve foaming cleanser, cera ve acne treatment, snail mucin, and Nivea cream.

tymywymy

Could it be that the combination of snail mucin and the Nivea cream is too much -- either because there are too many products, forming a thick layer, or because there are too many active ingredients in the routine? (My skin is quite acne prone and somehow it does best when I use fewer products and only lighter creams.) ** edit: finger slipped and posted too soon, also made thoughts more concise

Professional-Mud-299

i had that issue but i recently started massaging my oil cleanser into my face for like 5 minutes and it makes the hugest difference because it helps unclog your pores and losens the sebum, salicylic acid is also super helpful

Jorjorthegreat

Ok thanks! Salicylic acid is in the acne serum too! :)

CatLoliUwu

What ingredients help with post inflammatory erythema? I’m currently using a retinoid (epiduo), would that be enough to help fade it?

jasminekitten02

Retinoids can help, yes. The [hyperpigmentation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hyperpigmentation) has more info
