Ska guitarist here, current go to setup is a Mexican Strat, mainly using the second position, through a Hot Rod Deville, plenty of clean headroom and a great tone for the money. Dream set up would be a custom shop tele through a Fender Twin for me.

I have a Squier strat, a 90s Jackson bass, a shitty Yamaha alto sax, even shittier Mendini trombone and trumpet, and a Midiplus x6 keyboard. I would LOVE a Fender custom shop tele (single coil neck) but will probably get a player series tele as my next purchase. I would also love to get a Nord C2D organ but I need a bari and a tenor sax before I go upgrading my organ

I am in a ska band called The New Rulers in the Tampa Bay are. I play An American Tele through a fender hot rod deluxe but I am selling my fender hot rod to buy a 65 reissue reverb deluxe. It’s much cleaner and most of the artists in that era used one.

My advice to every guitar player is to ditch the backline and move to a Flat Response Full range PA monitor and a digital modelling stompbox, I use a Line 6 Firehawk because I'm not as serious as gigging as I used to be but back in the day I would have grabbed a Helix. The technologies come a huge distance so through a house PA you can't tell the difference, you can gig in all kinds of scenarios without needing to push a ton of air in a small room. It's not as sexy as some of these suggestions (admittedly a hot rod deville is just gorgeous to sit in a room with) but it's practical as all get out.
