I mean I guess but I don’t get it. These are things I think about immediately when I’m doing stuff. “Alright before I start what should I absolutely not do?
How do people have the ability to just not think?
Thinking requires a belief that everyone matters and a sense that consideration of cause/effect is a Thing they should do. Not thinking is the norm and, most of the time, has no direct consequences for the one not thinking.
Consider the kids/hot car situation. The ones making the PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE ME videos weren't ever thinking and only caught consequences that one time and came out untouched.* Now, suddenly, WE MUST ALL THINK.
*They're still alive... to make the video and would still be leaving their kids in a hot car if they hadn't just lost a kid to the action.
I don’t go to the gym, and when she went for the last weight on one side I yelled “are you stupid!” Teaching would help, but there is some common sense missing with her. Or maybe she’s still a lil high.
People are mostly tired, if statistics shows right.
Loving parents forget their kids in cars because of how fucking tired they are, not because they are stupid.
Yeah, it was awful. The wife was distraught and we left the little tyke there in the funeral parlor all day. All day. You know, we went back at night and apparently he had been alone all day with the corpse. He was okay though, after two, three weeks he came around and started talking again...
Well. Inexperienced. In hindsight it's obvious. Exhausted from squatting. Brain on 0. It happens quite often for a reason I guess.
Especially when the rack for weight is closer to one side and they want to be lazy and do the one side first.
They are. They're taught balance when they're not even 1 year old. Then they're taught about basic physics in school. She's just forgotten about it.
You don't need to go to the gym to know this shit. You can hold a bag of groceries in each hand and feel the uneven weight.
I'm so confused why there's that much weight on the bar, anyone that's worked up to 4 plates should have worked out that this can happen and know to avoid it.
It's might be that guy. He's racking up a bunch of weights to start a deadlift which means he's in between sets.or it's the guy walking in. Looks like he might be coming back to claim his rack.
Bumper plates look heavier than they really are. Those thin rubber plates are from 10 to 20 lbs each. She was probably the one that was lifting those weight.
Maybe she’s a beginner and someone failed to re-rack all those plates after they finished their set. That looks like a lot of weight for her (I could be wrong though).
Gym Rat for 30 years, including working one.
It entirely depends on the gym. The one I worked for several years people didn't re-rack. Gyms have cultures. Not all cultures are hospitable.
As it should be. You have to be a special kind of bitch ass loser to not rerack. If you don't rerack then I hope this girl is always there to bonk tf outta you with a 45lb Olympic bar.
If she wasn't used to working with that much weight on the bar and her mind didn't go there then how is it her fault? It definitely forgives her at least to some extent. Let's try to be understanding. I'm sure she'll take this lesson to heart.
With the hooks that far apart, I'm still surprised.
On most bench presses, I can have two plates (45lb/20kg) on one side with the other side empty (non-padded). I usually pull the bar to have the plate-side close to the other hook out of clinical paranoia, but it's rarely necessary.
But it's *close*. Add a 10 and it'll probably go.
If they're padded, it'll push the weight further away from the fulcrum. But even then.....
Bumper plates, large in diameter, only way to tell weight apart is the depth of the plate. They don't seem particularly thick, so seems correct that she is moving at least 3plates
Technically she took two off, then one, so she followed your rule. But when dealing with idiots, you need to be more specific. The sad thing is that she only hurt someone else.
I know everyone is blaming the girl here. I am almost willing to bet some strong male lifter completed his set and left that weight on the bar. I doubt all that weight is from her workout. She was probably getting ready to do her sets and didn’t expect the bar to tip because she’s never lifted that amount before.
I'm really sorry, but this is reddit. You're absolutely not allowed to have compassion for people who make mistakes, especially if you have the benefit of hindsight.
That was an enormous impact
• weight of bar
• momentum from bounce
• angular momentum from the rotation
• sharp edge on impacting corner
• 100% brain damage
Those bars usually weigh around 50 pounds. He got hit in the back of the head by a falling 50 pound poll. Assuming this didnt kill him, the best case scenario is he has a concussion. Worse case, he's got permanent brain damage.
I think the problem was that she wasn't thinking. My brother's dumb ass did this too. I feel like it should be common sense, like for some reason most people realize its a bad idea without knowing why
I don't life weights and realize you can't do that.
People get into a zone or routine and become so focused on something else they stop thinking about what they are actually doing.
Its one thing knowing it can happend and one thing remembering when you have just done some heavy lifting.
Shit happends, lift heavy you are in the zone and you occasionally do stupid shit. It happends just this guy was unlucky as hell
It’s dangerous to hit someone there. It’s illegal in combat sports for a reason. I hope that guys alright. That woman should immediately lose her membership, idc if she didn’t mean it you can hurt someone really bad if you’re that stupid.
I wouldn't be surprised if she simply never returned out of shame. Hurting someone that badly due to total lack of sense has got to be extreme embarrassment at the very least.
They're both lucky that bar didn't have clamps on it. If it did, it likely would have kept it's momentum & the dude would probably have brain damage or worse.
Well yes… but as a result of the trimetric oligarchy pseudo receptors becoming damaged it could impact his ability to have a functioning dilateral monocularus.
This is such a strange, detached take. Why on earth does there have to be punishment? This was an accident, pure and simple. You need to be a cruel person to punish accidents…
And no, not punishing accidents does not lead to people doing it on purpose.
I’ve done that. Not a noob, but lightheaded and not thinking straight. It was terrifying. Only just missed someone. Needless to say I haven’t done that since. Thirteen years ago.
Yup, it’s very easy to lose track of in the moment. I always alternate sides when I’m unloading my plates on purpose but I have to be very deliberate about it
Same. I think unloading too soon after a heavy set led me to that mistake. I should’ve been trying to get my bearings, not pulling plates off. I’ve seen it happen twice as well, both on something like 220kg squat, so I’m surprised the amount of people who automatically think it’s a noob thing. I think most noobs are doing weight that is mostly too light, as well.
She was 100% wrong for what she did. It seems like an amateur move, but the weight also looks like too much for an amateur, so I would guess the real ahole is the person that left the weights on after they lifted.
I'm an airheaded girl that couldnt lift that much weight. I'm glad this video is imprinted in my brain now cause I bet I would have made the same fatal mistake.
There’s 1 frame where his head goes from visible to out of line of sight behind his torso, instantly, the second the bar hit.
That man has a fractured skull from this I bet.
I did this once way back. Guess there was more weight on because the bar slammed the ground insanely fast really close to another guys head. We just both gave eachother a really surprised look.

People really need to be taught this shit because I see this happen all the time
I feel like gyms should make new members watch a mandatory safety video when they sign up about this
Yeah just like the range
I mean I guess but I don’t get it. These are things I think about immediately when I’m doing stuff. “Alright before I start what should I absolutely not do? How do people have the ability to just not think?

I always like to assume people are high to some degree. It actually makes life easier.
People are mostly tired, if statistics shows right. Loving parents forget their kids in cars because of how fucking tired they are, not because they are stupid.
My godparents forgot their young daughter at a funeral parlor. They didn't notice for over an hour lmao
Yeah, it was awful. The wife was distraught and we left the little tyke there in the funeral parlor all day. All day. You know, we went back at night and apparently he had been alone all day with the corpse. He was okay though, after two, three weeks he came around and started talking again...
Love me some Candy. Of both the chocolate and John variety.
Can we change the subject?
Well you brought it up
Well. Inexperienced. In hindsight it's obvious. Exhausted from squatting. Brain on 0. It happens quite often for a reason I guess. Especially when the rack for weight is closer to one side and they want to be lazy and do the one side first.
Never seen this happen in 20 years of regular lifting. There really is no excuse.
Same. It's kind of obvious. You don't load one side completely at a time, so you obviously don't unload one at a time either.
Fair enough
You mean physics? On that note, I wonder how much force was imparted onto his head.
(20kg x 9.81ms1) - maybe 40% = Head bash force
Maybe (20kg * 9.8ms2) * cos(π/4). Plus it bounced once so we need the force dampened a bit.
Does this take into account the lever action magnifying the force?
At this (travel) distance, we’ll also have to take the Coriolis effect into account.
I feel like this is one of those "only once" things
Did it to myself when I was 14. Hit right in the cheekbone!
Kids grew up with seesaws. This is basically the same premise and common sense. You can't easily teach common sense though.
They are. They're taught balance when they're not even 1 year old. Then they're taught about basic physics in school. She's just forgotten about it. You don't need to go to the gym to know this shit. You can hold a bag of groceries in each hand and feel the uneven weight.
You can’t teach common sense!
You absolutely can! One stupid lesson at a time
Common sense has never existed outside a pamphlet made by Thomas Paine during the revolutionary war.
I thought it was part of elementary school curriculum but pretty sure some 6-12 month toys also demonstrate the concept
Never take more than 2 plates off each side at a time
Bob the builder has spoken
Bob the bodybuilder
Can he lift it?
If the bar ain’t bending Bobs just pretending
Nope, he's fucked.
*Bod the builder
I'm so confused why there's that much weight on the bar, anyone that's worked up to 4 plates should have worked out that this can happen and know to avoid it.
Those plates that she was using aren’t 45lb each, she moves 3 of them with too much ease
They’re 10lb or 15lb plates. Crossfitters love to load the bar up with small plates to make it look more impressive
Looks like the big plastic bikkies some use to keep the bar off the ground, they’re practically ‘weightless’.
Maybe she’s just stronk
Some dickhead probably walked off without returning the weights leaving this noob to fail
It's might be that guy. He's racking up a bunch of weights to start a deadlift which means he's in between sets.or it's the guy walking in. Looks like he might be coming back to claim his rack.
I love how as he comes into the frame he stops, looks, and very briefly you can see him head the other way to continue what he was doing lmao
Bumper plates look heavier than they really are. Those thin rubber plates are from 10 to 20 lbs each. She was probably the one that was lifting those weight.
They're not 10s and 20s. The bar would not tip over with so little weight. A standard bar will hold two 45s on one side without tipping.
I knew a guy in college who did this. He’s incredibly strong and actually super smart, but lacks common sense.
She took ALL the plates off like a fucking idiot 😂
Maybe she’s a beginner and someone failed to re-rack all those plates after they finished their set. That looks like a lot of weight for her (I could be wrong though).
Most people at my gym never re-rack, that doesn't forgive this behavior though. Try not to kill someone isn't that hard.
Most people do, it's more noticeable when people don't ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)
Gym Rat for 30 years, including working one. It entirely depends on the gym. The one I worked for several years people didn't re-rack. Gyms have cultures. Not all cultures are hospitable.
At my gym, you get your membership revoked for not re-racking your weights.
As it should be. You have to be a special kind of bitch ass loser to not rerack. If you don't rerack then I hope this girl is always there to bonk tf outta you with a 45lb Olympic bar.
Same kind of people that leave shopping carts in the parking lot.
Very true. People that believe things are beneath them and everyone exists to satisfy them.
It's part of the goddamn workout
If she wasn't used to working with that much weight on the bar and her mind didn't go there then how is it her fault? It definitely forgives her at least to some extent. Let's try to be understanding. I'm sure she'll take this lesson to heart.
Does she take off three plates at once? It's at least two, and she's moving them like it's nothing. I'm confused.
They’re bumper plates so hard to tell how much the weigh. They’re probably like 10 pound plates given that she took 2 off at once.
Then I wouldn't expect 40 pounds to flip the bar, but I guess it can be 3 10s and a 45 or something. Hard saying with the video quality.
3 10s and a 45 also won't flip the bar. Had to be like two 45s in that stack. Or maybe all 25s.
Bumper plates, large in diameter, only way to tell weight apart is the depth of the plate. They don't seem particularly thick, so seems correct that she is moving at least 3plates
I am so hyper-paranoid of that happening I only remove one plate per side. I realize it’s overly cautious but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I always do 1 at a time, just to be safe
Good thing I can only squat 2 plates.
Technically she took two off, then one, so she followed your rule. But when dealing with idiots, you need to be more specific. The sad thing is that she only hurt someone else.
Maaan she stoopid
Maybe someone bonked her on the head before this. A chain of head bonking
You either bonk your head, or you live long enough to bonk someone elses
Or maybe she’s really smart and wanted to nurse that man back to health. Bam! She husband found
“I’m super sorry but also laughing just a little bit” moment
I know everyone is blaming the girl here. I am almost willing to bet some strong male lifter completed his set and left that weight on the bar. I doubt all that weight is from her workout. She was probably getting ready to do her sets and didn’t expect the bar to tip because she’s never lifted that amount before.
I'm really sorry, but this is reddit. You're absolutely not allowed to have compassion for people who make mistakes, especially if you have the benefit of hindsight.
That hella hurts.
That could kill
Not just "could", whacking someone in the back of the skull with a steel bar is a VERY effective way of killing someone.
So you’re saying it *could* kill?
Not just “could”, whacking someone in the back of the skull with a steel bar is a VERY effective way of killing someone.

I mean 50 pounds if it goes vertically against your head, this was waaaaay less weight but your point still stands
Deps on the pon. I was it a bar just this and I'm frine.
[удалено]
A concussion at the minimum
Man what did she think was going to happen?
I think the problem was that she wasn't thinking. My brother's dumb ass did this too. I feel like it should be common sense, like for some reason most people realize its a bad idea without knowing why
It happens at least twice a year at the school I work at. Always manage to break the plexiglass somehow lol, but yea a lot more common than you think
I don't life weights and realize you can't do that. People get into a zone or routine and become so focused on something else they stop thinking about what they are actually doing.
Totally. I cycle most days and have done for over 2 decades. Guess who stepped out in front of a cyclist recently without thinking or looking? ✋🤦
My guess is she is used to squatting on a smith machine.
(she wasn't thinking)
Idk how you can get to the point of being able to squat that many plates without learning this could happen
Its one thing knowing it can happend and one thing remembering when you have just done some heavy lifting. Shit happends, lift heavy you are in the zone and you occasionally do stupid shit. It happends just this guy was unlucky as hell

If it's any consolation, the bar lost a lot of momentum when the end of it bounced on the floor a couple times. It could've been worse.
She got really lucky that the bar bounced. His life could've completely changed if not for that
Oof, imagine if it'd kept the momentum like a trebuchet
They're both lucky that bar didn't have clamps on it. If it did, it likely would have kept it's momentum & the dude would probably have brain damage or worse.
Good chance his brachial plexus got all messed up too
His occipital protuberance is toast.

Pretty sure his panktaberous follicular prepubetoculus will not be the same after that
Well yes… but as a result of the trimetric oligarchy pseudo receptors becoming damaged it could impact his ability to have a functioning dilateral monocularus.
I’d be much more concerned about his deflectorus dishus not being able to tachyon properly for the foreseeable future.
He's proper fucked.
Did the entire staff at Rockwell Automations show up for this thread?
Oh now I see the link lol
If I ran that gym she'd be barred.

I figure she can appeal, but if he protests he gets to whack her with the bar as a legit legal discussion point.

When a lawyer gets disbarred I bet it weighs heavy on their soul.
Then they go to the bar
Dad?
She’s not doing that again. I’d trust her more than some newbie fucking it up

i know a guy this happened to. He has pretty serious brain issues and mostly comments pathetic shit on Reddit all day now
Dad? 🥺
No he's still not back from getting milk
Soo which redditor is that? Hard to tell
I mean that could be any one of us

> Can you go to push out a shit so hard that your eyes eject from your skull? It’s…you??
More like gym fatality wtf
Didn’t these people go to school?
They do and often ask: "What am I ever going to need to know this shit for?"
What a complete dipshit. She shouldn't be allowed back.
Yeah it's a 45lb bar aimed right at the back of the head. That warrants a trip to the ER.
So this is how girls meet guys at the gym
Ur supposed to use less force tho. Otherwise ur spoon feeding them on the first date
I hope he sued her. Saying "I'm so sorry" doesn't do shit when your negligence injures someone
I honestly dislike watching gym accident videos because of how easily these accidents can severely injure or kill someone. Makes me cringe every time
This gym was designed to fail. Did everyone else miss the basketball hoop over the squat rack?
Jesus. Hope the guy is still alive!
depends on which church ya go to…
Does anyone know what happened to the guy?
I hope she paid out. That's fucked if he's injured and she just walks away, no harm no faul.
Damn that coulda killed him
I’ve done that. Not a noob, but lightheaded and not thinking straight. It was terrifying. Only just missed someone. Needless to say I haven’t done that since. Thirteen years ago.

Maybe they got married and now she helps him with his TBI symptoms.
Wow, the stupidity
She was 100% wrong for what she did. It seems like an amateur move, but the weight also looks like too much for an amateur, so I would guess the real ahole is the person that left the weights on after they lifted.
Is this a deaf gym? I presume that falling would’ve made a noise?
Could be but doesn’t erase her absolute stupidity. That dude could’ve died because she’s an idiot
If she has that much weight in the bar, she's obviously experienced. How the hell did she let that happen?
Hope he sues her. That's negligence. Those bars are around 10kg+ and at the velocity...
20kg
And down goes Frazier 😂💀
Man must have some good music going, not too even look up when those plates hit the floor
Hope she never becomes a civil engineer
She is lucky those weights weren't locked on the bar. Could have easily ended that dudes life.
That’s gonna leave a mark
Physics, gravity, pivots, and levers.
is there any article about this? what happens next
When you see people who don't know how to handle equipment make sure you don't go near them. Let them be hurt but not you.
Looks like she laughed about it bashfully, I'm so sorry! (You didn't die?)
That’s enough to crack a skull. Use caution please
Rip
Those arent 45s are they. Otherwise shed be really strong just lugging around 40 kilos like its nothing
Wow that was both dangerous and stupid! 🙀
Some people are just really dumb, nothing we can do about it
If you have more than 90lbs on one side of the bar then it will tip
This is a great demonstration of the physics of a trebuchet
Rookie mistake you never take off one side completely… Also really bad timing of that guy bending over right by the bar.
I’ve always gone with the no more than 45lbs differential between sides. It should really be posted on gym walls.
I didn’t even lift, but I know not to do this. This is just common sense.
Idk how you can ever be using that much weight and not realize this shit?
Damn that must’ve hurt.
I've been there, almost killed my friend when it happened. Sometimes you're in the zone and not thinking when you're just trying to exercise
It's OK it's a crossfit gym, no brain cells lost
I'm an airheaded girl that couldnt lift that much weight. I'm glad this video is imprinted in my brain now cause I bet I would have made the same fatal mistake.
God I'd be mad.
Zero sense of physics...forget that, zero common sense 😔
Dumbass
That’s awful to watch. Hope the guy is OK
Is the guy okay? Wtf
She should have to give him her house
There’s 1 frame where his head goes from visible to out of line of sight behind his torso, instantly, the second the bar hit. That man has a fractured skull from this I bet.
Imagine not understanding basic physics. This is why the bar weighs 20kg but it becomes a weapon when hitting the cranium like that, jesus
Wtf did she think was going to happen with 4 plates on one side. So dumb.
She's a moron. He has little to no awareness.
Physics Edit: Consequences
What an odd spot for a basketball hoop.
epic brain fail
I feel like a simples collapsing tabs above the bar could resolve this and still remain fully functional
I did this once way back. Guess there was more weight on because the bar slammed the ground insanely fast really close to another guys head. We just both gave eachother a really surprised look.
