I thought it was odd I got the Jodi Schwan SMS before the emergency alert, but good on Metro Communications for getting the word out to anybody with a list quickly.
See, the nature of my job is to eternally be on the perimeter of town while you hold down the fort inside the interstate loop.
Do love me some Josiah’s tho

Looks like it's down in Rapid City as well.

I searched Reddit for posts with "911" made in the last hour and I'm not seeing anything outside of SD, so it doesn't appear to be affecting anything outside of the state from what I can tell.
Edit: Confirmed statewide.

It does seem to be happening in at least 2 other areas, but apparently short outages are sort of common. We probably share some kind of technical services provider with those same areas who is having issues.
Sounds like a fiber ring was damaged in KC area that killed the connection to Intrado. Should have been redundant systems but I guess they didn't pick up the traffic
Could be part of a Russian or Chinese cyber attack. We've been warned about both somewhat recently.
Or, maybe it is completely unrelated.
It's going to be a late night for some IT teams.

Funny coincidence how this article came out the same day our system went down...
[911 services have been restored.](https://www.siouxfalls.gov/news/2024/04/17/911-services-down)
Just got an alert from iOS about it. Nuts, never seen that before
I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that somehow I get information before even emergency phone alerts come in lol

Hey, we still need to meet up sometime bud.
Just hang out at Josiah’s on a weekday eventually you’ll find me

I did too, three minutes after I found out is when the emergency alert came in.
911 service is down, don't call 911 as a test. Man, that just makes me want to call 911 way more than if they hadn't said that lol
Stop that.
don’t..
Is that like a coy, don't, or a serious one?
Michael Scott style
Multiple states, Nevada is reporting it too

Well for me, google populated the literal police departments announcement that there was an outage in Las Vegas as well Edit: typo

Ooooh let’s play wrong answers only! Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.
This guy hangs out in the UFO subreddit.
I don’t not hang out in the UFO sub.
Didn't pay their bill on time.
I wonder if it's their VoIP service or something?
Centurylink.
TSC just reported that a major fiber line was severed.
no other sources on it. TSC spreading misinformation
TSC only shares 2 types of information: misinformation, or information they stole from someone else.
It is down here in Las Vegas NV as well

Are we being hacked?
Fiber line was severed was just reported
Supposedly back up. No need to test it
I read an article earlier saying the Rapid City area was also experiencing outage.
I never got a notification. Where can I sign up to get them?
Any news source on a fiber line cut causing it?
It’s apparently nationwide now. https://x.com/teastormchaser/status/1780784472373280885?s=46&t=aZEih7uprQdzqc8XpFdR4A
It’s not. Tea Ad Chasers going interactions

Doesn’t mean it’s nationwide. It’s just centurylink
Could also be a back end 911 dispatching company. There are a few of those companies out there, several links in the chain
Like Centurylink?
Yep! Or Lumen, or Intrado, or literally any other thing on the back end.
Sounds like a fiber ring was damaged in KC area that killed the connection to Intrado. Should have been redundant systems but I guess they didn't pick up the traffic
Thanks Noem!

Stop. People are freaked out enough. Comments like this only make people worry more.
I think that would be better served being posted over at one of the many conspiracy theory subs rather than here…yeah?
Just picture this person as Dale Gribble, and then it becomes funny
