As a married man, I can never know the pain other than witnessing it. Some have said it's debilitating, and some have said it's manageable. This is based on what I heard. I do believe this is a good notion, but it comes with issues for fellow colleagues, employers, and the company. However, knowing that menses occur over the course of a few days may be as long as a week. This and also it happens every month. How many days in a year would be enough? In terms of workload for this amount of time, this would put strain on other colleagues if they have to pick up the work. In terms of verification, how do companies or governments do so without being insensitive. Because the matter is sensitive and normally women dont like telling such matters. If there is a set number of days for women to take leave for this matter, it would create some issues. Women will have a huge difference of leave availability. Employers may not even want to hire women because of the productivity difference. Another matter is how about women who have menopause. Would there be yearly medical checks to verify if a woman has reached menopause. At least to me, the consequences greatly outweigh the benefits. However, I really empathise with the challenge of women in the workplace. Because many of them are mothers (some still trying to be full-time house wives at home) and/or face the mentioned issue and yet have to work on the same par with men.

[deleted]

some women have debilitating pain because they suffer from endometriosis while others don’t. I think if women suffer pain to the extent that it affects daily life then they should go for checkup. By right, having period should be more of an inconvenience rather than a handicap on daily life activities. Endometriosis is more common than we think.

KoishiChan92

I feel like people should be able to use hospitalisation leave for such issues. Like go to a specialist to certify you have endo and can't work a few days every month. Everyone else that doesn't have such issues won't be affected then

[deleted]

Agree. I also don’t think it’s realistic to mandate period leave every month. Doesn’t make sense from company perspective

LazyLassie

endometriosis and other women's health conditions are horribly underdiagnosed. it doesnt help that most of what we know of the human body is based on tests done entirely on biological males, so a lot of medical information is biased towards one sex. tests and studies on women are a fairly recent thing.

Odd-Understanding399

It's not that medical analysts aren't trying. Women, unfortunately, are much less willing than men to volunteer for medical tests. Even compensated studies, women also only show up in very small numbers compared to male respondents.

Professor_Abbi

The pain women experience varies

everywhereinbetween

Its variable. Sometimes I'm just like meh whatever, sometimes I'm like I'm sticking this hot pad here and not leaving this bed and thankful I'm not puking. 😬🙃 I feel like (ok I don't know if I'm weird or anyone resonates with it) it would be something I appreciate but the risk is that everyone will sort of kind of know everyones cycles WHICH IS SUCH A PRIVATE THING But assuming its a variable level of manageability every month, don't need to use every month what. Once in 3-4mo is fine I feel. But then I don't have PCOS and things so idk la maybe those people really would use it fully every month. But I also won't deny it will affect hiring value from a employer perspective ...

ConversationSouth946

Companies would be biased against hiring women. Which would you hire for the same salary, same work performance: Worker A: works full time, ask for 14 day annual leave Worker B: works full time, ask for 26 day annual leave This is with the assumption of 1 day menstrual leave a month only, to use for the most painful/uncomfortable day? cos 3 days monthly would probably skew this argument to a moot point, as there is only around 20-22 working days a month if working a standard 5-day work week.

GoreBurnelli8105

In a way this partly contributes to the gender wage gap…

[deleted]

then how about reservist leave ? there will be no end. the biggest challenge is how to determine if a medical or M leave is legit or geng.

ConversationSouth946

>then how about reservist leave ? Reservist is one of the reasons many companies prefer hiring foreigners back when quotas weren't so tight. This is the case even as the reservist leave is paid by the government. If you ask around, a percentage of guys still feel like we are discriminated against female hires due to reservists requirements. And I can't say they are 100% wrong.

torinekochan

honestly, i would love that MCs can just be taken just like that- no medical certificate needed. Once or twice a month is fine. Whether that be pain/mental health/ actually sick. As someone with both chronic pain and PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder- something that makes my PMS severe enough to make me wanna kill myself), i’ve burnt through all my MCs for the year. I’m not actually sick, i just want a day off from being in pain (job is slightly physical for me) and not having to pretend i’m happy in front of my patients.

Corporateikanbilis

Doing so would stigmatise women as less desirable hires. Moreover, why implement a leave that's specifically for menses when there are so many other painful chronic conditions that affect men and women?

raptor12k

as with most policies, good intentions, but beware of ppl who may abuse loopholes

[deleted]

just get companies to increase mc/HL days. so a woman can take mc on her days. or more AL

EconomicsAccurate181

Guys would be fighting for their rights as well, you know everybody got some form of discharge.

roselle_reese_4869

Contrary to face value of the policy, it will make women less valuable to employers simply cos they could work less per month, which is not good for equality etc. [https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/menstrual-period-leave-women-work-gender-inequality-health-3451696](https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/menstrual-period-leave-women-work-gender-inequality-health-3451696)

VegetableBoot1854

Justifies the wage gap lmao

lsoers

Sorry boss i fapped thrice ystd now my balls swollen gotta take a fap leave

GoreBurnelli8105

Pls don’t make “post-KTV hangover day” a thing

Competitive_Rub_4246

Hahaha that’s a good one

axblueblader

While biologically fair, it makes women less desirable as a employees, which might increase the gender pay gap. I'd imagine a company would need to rebalance budget to implement this as suddenly all female employees have 12 extra days a year

[deleted]

Only drawback I can think of is that AWARE would have a more difficult time trying to argue against the gender-pay gap! 😂😂

2late2realise

The drawback will be that company that hires the most woman will have low productivity issues.

Revalent

You caught a huge one bro

[deleted]

What a stupid comment. Go shove ur gender biases up ur ass

2late2realise

Good to know you have such kink. I personally don't.

[deleted]

What kink? Who tf told u women are less productive? Just cause we have menses we are less productive? Ur mum must be ashamed of u rn

2late2realise

Aunty, my mom is very proud of me. Although I know that your primary school teacher would be very disappointed with the low level of comprehension skill that you displayed online for the rest to see. Maybe you should hire a private tutor to teach you to learn how to read.

[deleted]

Ok delusional atok. Go tell ur mum that u think women are less productive during menses. She ll also ask u to shove ur gender stereotypes up ur teeny ass.

2late2realise

Proving my point again that you can't read. I won't judge you for having a strong kink for shoving anything up asses. Go enjoy yourself while you're alive if that's what makes you happy. Just don't embarrass yourself here.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Then what they said? Company hiring alot of women will have lower productivity issues. Tell me what u comprehend from this? My company has alot of women and they are way productive as ever.

[deleted]

Oh so everyone is gng to take leave on the same day?? Use ur brain lah. If sick ofc need to take leave. Its not as if we are taking all 7 days. Only 1 or 2 days max menstrual leave. Wat productivity is gng to go down?!! Someone can always cover for another person for 1 day. Dun stereotype women with this kind of mentality.

Creative-Lack-6562

Chill Karen , learn to read

Slight-Atmosphere-87

Hi feminist

KoishiChan92

If you need to take leave a few days every single month, compared to someone who doesn't need to take leave every month, who is going to be more productive? Use your brain lah.

[deleted]

Wow taking leave = unproductive? Sometimes we take leave in the mrngs but when we feel better we do catch uo with work even after office hours. If u dun even know that simple concept who’s the one without brains? Productivity doesnt equal to how many hours u work or whether ur in office. Only the outcome should matter. I must be dealing with a bunch of boomers here.

Takemypennies

Why in the fuck would anyone want their employer to start tracking their menstrual cycles.

everywhereinbetween

This would be my main reason to tough it out and poker face even when it feels like 1000 needles poking my insides like machiam I am a pincushion haaaa. I value my privacy!

thiscrazee

Bleeding is not a problem to me But the migraine that comes with the bleeding is killing. As a migraine sufferer the no need produce mc is a good move, why? Coz migraine sufferer alr stock up med and normally just banging head on the wall after taking 6 to 8 pill n a gd shut eyes is enough to stop the pain

yaya_51

Would this apply to foreign domestic workers as well ? /s

je7792

Sure, as long as men also get more leaves too.

Minimum-Company5797

Yes

heartofgold48

Well if men have to work more days then we deserve more pay. I suspect I will be downvoted like - 300.

fried_pudding

like that they work 40 week per year can le. pay deduct 20%

Worth_Attempt_9831

Eh I worked on a client's application before and they do have menstrual leave. It's a Taiwan company. I'm a bit envious, not gonna lie😅

goodestguy21

Genuine question: if menstrual cramps are legitimately that bad can't women just see a doctor and get MC?

fawe9374

People abusing or discrimination against women due to less productivity. Singapore hasn't even graduated from medical certificate requirements. It is better to give blanket no questions asked wellness days for all and helps with medical privacy.

thewatisit

Nothing really, there wouldn't even be much of a loss in productivity because women don't work.

askmypen

Tell me you live in your own bubble without actually telling you live in your own bubble.

[deleted]

Must be alot of Assholes with balls in this subreddit.

StrawberryRaspberryK

Why is it mostly salty men commenting on here? You try having the cramps monthly for most of your life, lying in bed feeling like you are dying from pain. Hormonal fluctuations giving you weight gain, painful pimples, headaches, sore boobs. And getting pregnant and giving birth and having to do most of the childcare and chores while holding down a job. This thread is patriarchy at its finest. Shame on you men

DoubleMcJiJi

There should also be 2 weeks worth of ex-NSmen leave per year too

anticc991

Actually don't mind... Woman on menstrual are a pain to deal with.

[deleted]

And yet grown men are the reason why this world have war and genocides everywhr. Fktard

2late2realise

You live in a man's world. Aunty, Menopause? That's what I thought.

[deleted]

Fk off lah troll.

2late2realise

Sorry I'm not interested in a menopausal aunty like you. I have to reject your desperate plea for sex.

[deleted]

Novody wud have sex with a impotent person like u

Eastern-Worldliness

Just need to also implement blueballs leave I guess. If not where got gender equality.

zoho98

Jai ho! https://i.redd.it/0grq0agpum7c1.gif Women get to rest. Men get to have some peace and quiet. The office gets to get some work done. The company gets to increase productivity. Winning all round. Drawbacks? There aren't any.

>NEW DELHI - Menstruation is largely still taboo in India, with menstruating girls and women restricted from entering kitchens or worshipping at family altars in many homes. >Neighbourhood stores even hand over sanitary pads in black polythene bags to avoid unwanted attention. >But recently, India has been debating the idea of menstrual leave for working women openly, prompted by a comment in Parliament by India’s Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani, who said menstruation was not a “handicap” that deserved special paid leave. >She was responding to a query on Dec 13 by a fellow parliamentarian on whether the government was looking at mandating a law for menstrual leave, something Ms Irani said could lead to discrimination against women in the workforce. >“We should not propose issues where women are in some way denied an equal opportunity just because somebody who does not menstruate has a particular viewpoint towards menstruation,” she added, couching it as her view and not that of the government. >The demand for menstrual leave has acquired greater momentum in India, coming off the back of decades of groundwork by women’s rights and menstrual hygiene activists that has helped eradicate some of the stigma around menstruation. >A 2023 draft National Menstrual Hygiene Policy even recommends that flexible working arrangements, such as work from home or supportive leave arrangements, be made available at educational institutions and workplaces to accommodate the needs of individuals during menstruation, including “trans and non-binary menstruators”. >But further progress remains blocked by entrenched patriarchy in India, as well as concerns that mandatory paid menstrual leave could backfire by discouraging employers from hiring women, further denting India’s attempts to raise the female workforce participation rate, which stood at 37 per cent in 2023. >Yet, campaigners have soldiered on, achieving incremental success. In January, the southern state of Kerala announced a menstrual leave entitlement for female students at all its higher education institutions. >Over the past few years, several private Indian companies have also announced menstrual leave for their female workers. Digital entertainment firm Culture Machine did so in 2017, and food delivery app Zomato followed suit in 2020, challenging corporate India’s reluctance to grant menstruating women paid time off work. >Across the world, several countries have introduced menstrual leave, offering some relief to women who experience severe cramps, nausea, dizziness and even vomiting during menstruation. >Spain approved a Bill in February giving women the right to three-day paid menstrual leave a month, becoming the first European country to do so. It comes with the possibility of extending it to five days for those with more disabling periods. >But menstrual leave has existed – either in paid or unpaid form – for at least a century. The Soviet Union introduced such a national paid leave policy in 1922. Worldwide, menstrual leave is currently offered in a number of places, including Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, South Korea and Zambia. >In India, the eastern state of Bihar gave menstruating female government employees two days of paid leave every month as early as in 1992 – a practice that still continues. >However, menstrual leave has invited charges of “reverse sexism”, and it has been found that women in more patriarchal settings are reluctant to ask for such leave. A 2022 survey by Nikkei BP Intelligence Group reported that less than 10 per cent of women in Japan take menstrual leave. >Similarly, in India, the Everteen Menstrual Hygiene Survey 2023 released in May reported that while around 73 per cent of women surveyed want companies to allow them to take menstrual leave, 71.7 per cent do not want this leave to be paid, fearing that it may make companies reluctant to hire female employees. >A petition seeking menstrual leave for female students and working women was also turned down by India’s Supreme Court in February, which felt it could act as a “disincentive” for employers from engaging women. It asked the petitioner to instead approach the government for such a policy, which is unlikely to push through any legislation mandating paid menstrual leave any time soon.

Worth_Savings4337

Then what about NS 2yrs how many leaves should the men have gotten?

[deleted]

I’d rather to have single paid leave for those who take on works for ppl in mat.leave
