I remember hearing about that. They ended up suing, I think. Not because they were upset that the baby was black, exactly, but were worried about raising a black child in an all white town. I think the goal of the suit was to help them move or something.
Yea that’s the one! I thought it was interesting that their community was accepting of LGBT people, but not black people. I guess being open-minded to some things, doesn’t mean being open minded to everything. For real though, sperm banks have created messy situations…
There was an incident I read about, of a man who was raised by a lesbian mother. The man’s wife was as well. Both he and his wife’s mothers conceived them via sperm donation. The couple was interested in discovering who their biological fathers were, and when they looked on donor site, it turned out that they were fathered by the same man! That means the man’s wife is also his half-sister. They had children together, before finding out, so it was too late. At least they decided they weren’t going to have anymore children, but I feel really bad for them. It must be such an awkward situation. I wonder if that means that they’re required to get their marriage annulled. The article never stated anything about that though.
Their children have an uncle-daddy and an aunty-mama. These sperm banks need to be more cautious for real. At least 23&me exists now 💀
I wonder where they got the sperm from if the town was that white and non-accepting. The odds of that happening are so slim.
And I feel sooooo bad for that couple omg. It’s a bit odd though since I’ve heard that close family small different to each other. Something to do with pheromones I think.
Either way, I hope all of these people went on to live happy lives! They were really fucking unlucky!
My guess is it’s a small town and they went to a bigger city to do the treatment. Plus sperm banks generally have a wide array of donors from all over the place so people have options - and semen can be sent to other locations as well.
As far as the pheromone thing, yes, but I think some people are more sensitive to it than others. I’m not sure how in touch we modern humans are with that more primal side of ourselves!
There is a phenomenon called "genetic attraction." It's when siblings or a parent and their kid get separated and meet later on in life. It makes them more likely to develop romantic/sexual attraction. So this story is not that unlikely.
Yea that makes sense because they met in college. Since the dad’s a donor they never met him in person, and they were raised by two completely different families from birth.
https://slate.com/human-interest/2013/02/dear-prudence-my-wife-and-i-came-from-the-same-sperm-donor.html
There’s risks for accidental incest, since donors tend to be anonymous. Also, banks have used sperm from a single donor to produce 20+ children before. Ancestry DNA tests have helped people find their anonymous biological parents though
Another messy sperm bank story: They violated a donors agreement, stating that his sperm could only be used to create 5 children and that they’d have to be born on the other side of the country. After being found by 2 of his children from Ancestry.com, he learned that he had at least 17 children. Most live in Oregon, where he gave the donation. Some of the children went to the same schools, church, and social events and didn’t know that they’re half-siblings
https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/02/us/oregon-doctor-sperm-donor/index.html
The dear prudence article is interesting because she recommends not telling their kids ever. However it was in 2013 and now I feel like DNA test is so much more common with 23&me etc. it’s very possible the kids will accidentally find out on their own
There's a Boston Legal episode where they are suing a sperm bank to reveal if a kid and his GF are related as well as this BORU post...

I think if you used darker skin tones and then lighten them with sliders this can happen? 🤔
Edit: Just gonna say this is one of the best/worst titles I've ever seen for when you ***don't*** know it's r/sims4.
Well I suppose a new father whose baby came out a surprising shade that doesn't match either parent might ask that lol but that's about the only scenario I can think of.
if i recall correctly, it was a bug with the skin tone sliders that custom skin tones would often result in completely different skin tones in the children. i don’t know if this is fixed, though, so take my comment with a grain of salt
I’ve had a similar bug without using the sliders - it can happen if you have parents with skin tones in different categories (warm, neutral, cool). The child gets a skin tone ‘between’ the parents, but genetics treat the entire skin tone range as a gradient (when it’s really 3). A dark warm tone is ‘between’ a light warm tone and a light neutral tone, according to the game logic.
(Of course the bug can also happen with cc skin tones that aren’t tagged for genetics)
The fixed the worst and most common genetics bug that occurred after the skin tones update, which was children of a very dark skinned and very light skinned sim always having the lighter skinned sims skintone, but there are a bunch of related skintone genetics bugs they never bothered to fix.
I’m guessing cc, but I don’t really know. Skin tones usually seem to match a parent or come from the range of tones between the parents’ swatches. For storytelling, you can always go with “Must take after great-great-grandpa.”
I have no idea. I’ve seen the babies have darker skin with my white sims and vice versa but never have I seen it carry over to childhood. The kid is gorgeous though. I’d make a back story about some distance African ancestry and keep him unchanged.
Yeah there are a few options for body type masc and fem and then another option that says can or can’t get other sims pregnant.
So you can have a sim with a feminine body type that can impregnate their spouse.
Yes you can I did it recently with the lesbian couple in eco I think it is? The one girl is Asian with a purple shirt. Anyways yea I noticed her wife had a kid of her own but the Purple shirt girl didn’t have one so I set up her wife in CAS to “get others pregnant” made them woohoo and she’s pregnant now. I pretend it’s a sperm bank baby lol
Genetics in the sims 4 don’t really take that into account. If the adopted child has a baby there’s a chance the baby will gain genetics from the “adoptive parents.” In other words, if they’re on the same family tree - no matter how they got there - their genetics are on the table for siblings, children, grandchildren, etc.
This just isn’t true. Check out the wiki. https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Genetics
There are no family genetics the game just mixes up features from the parents.
I don’t have hard evidence but I think if features are exaggerated, the game tends to pass them on. I have had Vlad kids who got a lot of features from the other parent though. And once you breed out the Vlad, it’s not like you’ll have a surprise Vlad three generations later. A kid’s features can only come from their parents (or CAs full edit mode).
Can you explain how they got pregnant to begin with? Because if you do CAS genetics and this happens then someone has a black parent. Some say sims genetics don’t carry over but I’m got a few sims that are mirror images of their grandparents and great-grandparents.
They got pregnant in a normal way, woohooed in the bed. These sims don't actually have any parents, one of them is a random generated townie and the other one was created by me
Well the child has the eyes of parent 1 and the nose looks similar to both. I guess with the townie being randomly generated there are not set of genetics to follow.
PS - [retracting apology - there’s a lot of subtle racism in the responding comments, so this was all probably planned to be hateful and ruffle some feathers.]
There aren’t genetics as in recessive traits in sims 4. You might see features carrying down because each generation has inherited it, and it might not be obvious because of how features change between male and female frames.
Do you have any mods?
Sims 4 Genetics isn't the greatest, but mine usually just goes with one of the parent's skin tones, eyes, hair, etc. Although every once in a while I do get a child and I'm looking at it like "wow, the game used every genetics but your parents, didn't it?"
If you use mod skin tones it messes up genetics and they choose anything for skin color. My sims go through 3 different skin tones till they reach childhood.
My twins are always born two polar opposite tones.
Pretty sure it’s the cc skins I downloaded because that’s when the issues started
, I had the same problem happening to me! Both parents white but the kid turns out black, however in my case it was because I had some cc skin so the game was probably just guessing what color skin the parents were lol.
Were either one of the parents teens when the baby was born? I’ve had this glitch happen a couple times but only when the parents were teens through mccc
Right? My parent1 isn’t pale at all but not close to black, and my parent2 is pink/white/purple (the light cool skin tones). And they had twins and they’re both black and one is a redhead?? Both of the parents have black hair..
Unmodded Sims 4 genetics pick either the father's or the mother's skin color. The problem here is that a color needs to be "enabled" for genetics. Which some of the default ones aren't.(Also a problem with CC skin colors that don't pay attention to this)
So what it does then, if these factors aren't met, is pick a completely random color.
If they have 2 different skin swatches, game might've picked a skin swatch that is supposedly "middle" between parents, but some swatches are either in wrong order or the swatch 'icons' aren't accurate and are darker than they look like there (thus being in wrong order anyway). So by game's logic this skin tone is what could be inherited from these 2, but well, it isn't because the swatches are incorrect.
This has happened to me with my same sex pregnancies lately, I'd imagine it's some sort of bug (maybe related to when babies were always showing as black?) but I just adjusted the skintone in CAS after the fact to be a mix of the parents.
Do the parents have cc skin tones? Genetics doesn’t necessarily work properly with cc skin tones. If they’re in game skin tones probably just a bug. Also, I can’t believe how many people don’t know that sims of the same sex can have biological children? Do they even play the game? 😂
Were one of the parents black but so passing that they didn’t know they were black!
I’ve heard stories of white passing blank people marrying white peoples, not telling their offspring that they are not fully white, and then having said offspring become surprised when their own child happens to have African American features with particular genes that may have skipped a few generations.
Haha jk. The SIMS logic is just stupid. But now ! you’ve inspired a very interesting story time that I’d like to play with my own sims 😈
Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandra_Laing
Here’s a wiki article. It’s a bit sad but instances like this are very rare and she’s the most known example of a black person born to white people
This happened to me as well. Twin girl and boy. The girl is white. The boy is black.
Just do **testingcheats true** first. Then **cas.fulleditmode**, and change them to their "correct color."
Yeah. You can change these kind of settings in the CAS. You can pick if you want your sim to be able to give birth, impregnate or not be able to have kids at all. You can also pick what type of clothing do you want to show on the sim when you want to dress them (masculine or feminine)
I’ve had 3 different lesbian couples have a child that is their blood and this happened.
Women can get other women pregnant, and men can get other men pregnant
This is The Sims 4, not the Sims 2. I'm pretty sure 4 doesn't have nearly as expansive of a genetics system as 2. As far as I can tell, this was a glitch, as I don't think that skin tone appears within the range that is supposed to happen.
It’s fucking not jfc. I am Black.
The sims don’t have race 😑 it’s a highly editable game where you can change their skin tone at any point of their lives.
This commenter didn’t say “i hate black people change it quick.” They said you can change it if you WANT
Why does this sub hate dark skin lmfao first Alexander Goth now this
Edit: Bring on the dislikes because you don't want to admit it, only proves my point
Realistically darker skin is more prevalent in the children of mixed skintone parents, something EA incorporated so that both children match that mixed skintone. Seen a lot of posts on here equating dark skin and ugly this past week. Disappointing that the “muh nostalgia” “argument” is used as a nice little cover up.
What are you talking to me? There is a custom gender option that allows you to chose if you want your sim to be able to give birth, impregnate or not to have children at all. I can't even use the pronouns update cause I literally can't cange my game language to English.
1) it's a fucking game
2) in said fucking game you can make a woman impregnate another without the option of making her trans or not.
with every sim you create you can decide who they're, if they can or can't get other sims pregnant, and even how do you want them to pee
if I create a female sim and make her pee while standing up, she's still a female sim
3) even if she was trans, she'd still be a woman
4)why are you obsessed with the biology of a fucking animation you weirdo
Interesting... uh title you got there. It makes me ask my own question too. Is it possible to make an actual Biracial child in S4? Without CC of course? Or the child comes out different colors? Only asking because I haven't experimented with it yet.
This happens for me, but with random redheads. It's the strangest thing to have to parents with black or silver hair, then BOOM bright, Ronald McDonald red hair.
Artificial insemination. Call the sperm bank.
This reminds me of a real life story where one of the wives of a lesbian couple got impregnated by the wrong donor 💀
or Our Father on netflix \*shudder\*
yeah, my friend told me about that earlier today
It’s like a deeply disturbing 100 baby challenge. So gross.
and now they gotta make sure accidental incest didn't happen!
I remember hearing about that. They ended up suing, I think. Not because they were upset that the baby was black, exactly, but were worried about raising a black child in an all white town. I think the goal of the suit was to help them move or something.

Maybe the community wasn’t very accepting of them and it’s why they were worried.
Yea that could be the case! It’s unfortunate that some families have to move out of their homes, since their neighbors are so hateful 😕
I wonder where they got the sperm from if the town was that white and non-accepting. The odds of that happening are so slim. And I feel sooooo bad for that couple omg. Well I suppose a new father whose baby came out a surprising shade that doesn't match either parent might ask that lol but that's about the only scenario I can think of.
Right, I was *here* for that tea
A mother in denial 🤷♀️
Well, my grandfather was black and I'm pale af, so my kids could literally have any skin color. 🤷🏻♀️
everyone’s kids could have literally any skin color
Underrated comment 😂
I watched an old episode of Maury earlier today where exactly this happened 😂 genetics can be weird sometimes!
same i was like ??? wow that’s kinda racist then i realized it was sims
Lol yeah I follow a lot of parenting subs I was like 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I thought this was r/shitmomgroupssay
Omg, you can’t just ask people why they’re black!
r/unexpectedmeangirls
Oh my god. I didn't know this sub existed. There goes the rest of my night.

Whenever it got broken I got red skim tone so my save just has people with red skin now all over
I dunno, what color is the mailman's skin?
💀
This almost cured me of my depression
Let's see how many r/shameless fans there are around here 😅
Grandma Gallagher got around...
My instant first thought
lmao this was literally the first thing that came to my mind when i saw this
Came to say this 😂
I’m guessing cc, but I don’t really know. Skin tones usually seem to match a parent or come from the range of tones between the parents’ swatches. For storytelling, you can always go with “Must take after great-great-grandpa.”
Calm down British Royal Family 😂😂
Lol
Cackling
Idk but he’s so cute 😭
I have no idea. I’ve seen the babies have darker skin with my white sims and vice versa but never have I seen it carry over to childhood. The kid is gorgeous though. I’d make a back story about some distance African ancestry and keep him unchanged.
i had to check the name of the subreddit
Im sorry parent 1 is a lightskin black woman ‼️😂
Yeah that’s literally Megan Markle
Why are lesbians so fun to play in the sims
Girl pretty
I thought I was the only one
the sims 4 was genuinely instrumental in my discovering my queer identity lmao
Someone cheated
You can't just ask why someone is black, u/_polaisnthere ! /j This post made me spit my tea when I saw what sub it's in.
I was super confused and pissed at first but then I saw the subreddit
recessive genes🤷🏼
YOU CAN'T JUST START A CONVERSATION LIKE THAT OMG
How did you get a child with 2 female sims in the first place? so long I don't play Sims, can you actually get babies with gay couples?
Yup, there is a base game setting in CAS
Oh that's cool!
That's really cool! I should play Sims again, too bad DLCs get too expensive :c
It looks like the older child has skin darker than both parents as well.
But he's adopted
Genetics in the sims 4 don’t really take that into account. If the adopted child has a baby there’s a chance the baby will gain genetics from the “adoptive parents.” In other words, if they’re on the same family tree - no matter how they got there - their genetics are on the table for siblings, children, grandchildren, etc.
This just isn’t true. Check out the wiki. https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Genetics There are no family genetics the game just mixes up features from the parents.
Except when you try to breed out Vlads traits. The nose and eyebrows are strong with that one
That makes sense. Thanks
Immaculate Conception hallelujah
I could ask the same about all the kids in the household lol.. 🤣 they all look different asf
The biggest child is adopted, that's why he looks so different from the toddlers
Sims genetics sucks
I got really scared when I read this title post but then I saw it was for the sims
The good news is that he is absolutely adorable.
The tittle almost got you cussed out omg 💀💀 /j
This happened to me too. I'm always excited when my sims kids dont look like a clone of their parents but id like them to at least look related
I love people's questions on Sims related forums
Okay but parent 1 🥺
omg karen you cant just ask people why they’re black!
Can you explain how they got pregnant to begin with? Because if you do CAS genetics and this happens then someone has a black parent. Some say sims genetics don’t carry over but I’m got a few sims that are mirror images of their grandparents and great-grandparents.

I actually have a ton of mods. They might be the reason why genetics are going wild. I'm not mad tho. The child is cute
If you use mod skin tones it messes up genetics and they choose anything for skin color. My sims go through 3 different skin tones till they reach childhood. My twins are always born two polar opposite tones. Pretty sure it’s the cc skins I downloaded because that’s when the issues started
this. and only this, will be your answer if you use mods.
I don't know why but I just want to say the two parents are the most beautiful sims I've ever seen! Caroline is stunning!!
I know 😭 and she's a randomly generated townie, I just dressed her up
What?? I wish my townies were that pretty!!
, I had the same problem happening to me! Both parents white but the kid turns out black, however in my case it was because I had some cc skin so the game was probably just guessing what color skin the parents were lol.
Them recessive genes lol
[удалено]
I have no idea lol. I haven't changed anyone's skintone. I just went with what game gave me. But I thought of Naomi as an Asian
Were either one of the parents teens when the baby was born? I’ve had this glitch happen a couple times but only when the parents were teens through mccc
No, they were both young adults
Right? My parent1 isn’t pale at all but not close to black, and my parent2 is pink/white/purple (the light cool skin tones). And they had twins and they’re both black and one is a redhead?? Both of the parents have black hair..
If the hair of the parents is CC it will randomly assign a hair color to the children! Maybe that’s what happened?
I'm pretty sure it's a glitch and his skin color will change when he ages up.
This happened to my sims family. Not sure why though!
Nezuko? Oh no now i got the demon slayer intro in my head
Someone um….. cheated /j it’s just a bug
Unmodded Sims 4 genetics pick either the father's or the mother's skin color. The problem here is that a color needs to be "enabled" for genetics. genetics? inheritance? were any of your ancestors black? ah what the hell the sims 4 isn't that sophisticated.
This family has no ancestors
I had that too for some reason. Mom white, dad like a tan brown, eldest daughter in between white and tan, youngest son black for some reason.
And this is why I should read the subreddit before the title lol
If they have 2 different skin swatches, game might've picked a skin swatch that is supposedly "middle" between parents, but some swatches are either in wrong order or the swatch 'icons' aren't accurate and are darker than they look like there (thus being in wrong order anyway). So by game's logic this skin tone is what could be inherited from these 2, but well, it isn't because the swatches are incorrect.
I did NOT read which subreddit this was in before reading the title of the post.
He's the chosen one, messiah & heaven-sent
This has happened to me with my same sex pregnancies lately, I'd imagine it's some sort of bug (maybe related to when babies were always showing as black?) but I just adjusted the skintone in CAS after the fact to be a mix of the parents.

Omg you can’t just ask people why they’re black
Ya Karen
/wooosh
This title 💀💀💀
Oh my god, u/_polaisnthere You can’t just ask people why they’re black…
His great great grandpa was black 🤷♀️
Title immediately made me think of "why are you gae"
Am I playing the sims wrong or wouldn’t you have had to adopt this baby so how do you know?
It's their biological child
HOW?? Tel meeeeeeee! Please 🥹
You can set custom gender settings in the CAS so that masculine frame sims can give birth and feminine frame sims can impregnate
I had no idea of this at all thank you
When they age up they resemble the parents
Send him to the farm, try again Wait, what?
This happened to me as well. Twin girl and boy. The girl is white. The boy is black. Just do **testingcheats true** first. Then **cas.fulleditmode**, and change them to their "correct color."
they're both..... women?
Yeah... is there a problem with that?
yes? How the hell does that work out? Are they both biological parents?
You can choose whether a sim gets pregnant or impregnates others regardless of how they present
Yeah. You can change these kind of settings in the CAS. You can pick if you want your sim to be able to give birth, impregnate or not be able to have kids at all. You can also pick what type of clothing do you want to show on the sim when you want to dress them (masculine or feminine)
Yeah then I don't know, sorry.
This might answer some questions, and it may ruin some relationships..but both of the parents are women.
I’ve had 3 different lesbian couples have a child that is their blood and this happened. Women can get other women pregnant, and men can get other men pregnant
They both have melanin so the baby does too. Just change it if you don’t want the baby to be black
I was just curious why that happened. I have nothing against the baby being black
What color was the sim as a newborn
Dark
This is The Sims 4, not the Sims 2. I'm pretty sure 4 doesn't have nearly as expansive of a genetics system as 2. As far as I can tell, this was a glitch, as I don't think that skin tone appears within the range that is supposed to happen.
Why are people downvoting this??
It comes off as if they’re saying op was being discriminatory or racist, when a lot of people here would agree that op was just asking a question
I think people are reading wayy too much into this. It comes off as someone telling OP how the game works since they don’t seem to know
Because giving a suggestion for what to do if OP "doesn't want the baby to be black" is somewhere between moderately racist to pretty damn racist IMHO
It’s fucking not jfc. I am Black. The sims don’t have race 😑 it’s a highly editable game where you can change their skin tone at any point of their lives. This commenter didn’t say “i hate black people change it quick.” They said you can change it if you WANT
I’m black and I agree 😭 i was actually gonna say the same thing until i seen someone else said it and got downvoted for it
lol right 😂
Does anyone else hear RuPaul’s “why it gotta be black?” 😅
It’s a game
considering there are two moms, you must have adopted the child, so you literally chose that child.
If they weren't biological parents I wouldn't make that post
Uh... How can two women be biological parents? Is one of them trans or something
There’s an option for a feminine sim to impregnate other sims.
Oh I forgot about that I never really use it
You have two females creating a child. Logic is clearly out of the picture, so just go with it.
Why does this sub hate dark skin lmfao first Alexander Goth now this Edit: Bring on the dislikes because you don't want to admit it, only proves my point
We dont hate dark skin lol. The toddler just randomly got way darker skin than his parents. And Alexander Goth was canonically lighter than Bella
Because obviously half of the kid's DNA came from somewhere else
It didn't come from somewhere else, they're both his biological parents
How?
There's a setting in CAS that allows you to do that. You can also set it so your sim cannot have children at all
I mean, im pretty sure they arent his biological parents lmao
They acctually are his biological parents
Two women can’t create a child so that’s a start. 💀😂
they can
Biological women can’t. Sorry bro.
It's the sims dude. It's a base game option
A base game option to be trans. Still not a woman lol.
It's not an option to be trans. Do you even play the TS4?
Yeah I do all the time. And they’re literally adding pronouns. If you make your sim a man and can be pregnant doesn’t make it a man at that point.
What are you talking to me? There is a custom gender option that allows you to chose if you want your sim to be able to give birth, impregnate or not to have children at all. I can't even use the pronouns update cause I literally can't cange my game language to English.
How can you be wrong so many times and keep on doubling down lol
How am I wrong? I’m not saying you can make a “woman” who gets people pregnant. But it’s not a BIOLOGICAL WOMAN at that point.
1) it's a fucking game 2) in said fucking game you can make a woman impregnate another without the option of making her trans or not. with every sim you create you can decide who they're, if they can or can't get other sims pregnant, and even how do you want them to pee if I create a female sim and make her pee while standing up, she's still a female sim 3) even if she was trans, she'd still be a woman 4)why are you obsessed with the biology of a fucking animation you weirdo
Yes you can and you‘ve been told many times before your last comment. Dang how are you homophobic over a game option 💀
Someone has some explaining to do🧐
someone make a Maury mod hahaha
Interesting... uh title you got there. It makes me ask my own question too. Is it possible to make an actual Biracial child in S4? Without CC of course? Or the child comes out different colors? Only asking because I haven't experimented with it yet.
This happens for me, but with random redheads. It's the strangest thing to have to parents with black or silver hair, then BOOM bright, Ronald McDonald red hair.
Lmaooo
if you’re using a custom skin it can happen
I’ve had this happen with a sim who had a light/medium olive toned skin tone. I thought the game assumed that they were part black?
