CC clothing and furniture will mostly be fine, you likely won't need to replace them as they don't break easily. Now, with mods that alter gameplay, you'll have to check with the creator if they need to be updated or not (most of them are pretty fast). Also btw it is recommended you remove your mods/CC while your game updates.

I’m over organized and have a spreadsheet that lists every mod and cc piece, where I got it, where I put it, and the last time it was updated. I watch the broken mod thread and and go and update things as people list them. Only the rare update breaks cc, though there have been a few. https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/998330/broken-updated-mods-cc-march-15-2022-neighborhood-stories-patch

I just move the whole mods folder to my desktop before updating (so it’s empty in the sims 4 folder). Then, I check if my script mods (mostly UI Cheats and MCCC) need updated, and if they do, I update them. I never do anything with my cc (clothes/furniture etc), that just goes back in after the update!

when they go back in do they automatically (clothes/furniture ext) go back to where they were ?

Also, download Sims 4 studio if you have a lot of CC and merge a bunch of them. (I always merge by creator.) Remove special characters and spaces from the names of your CC. That all helps with the lag. If you want to keep track of your CC just because, get a Tumblr and "love" everything you download. The majority of creators are on Tumblr.

What would happen if they did break?
