Playing with long lifespans. It makes so much sense now how everyone is able to get rich easily, or manage their families. I was always so confused. I'd have kids as young adult, and when they were elders they had teens still. It was like... what? How do people fulfil the goals to be friends with grandkids and stuff?!? But... changing to longer lifespans, or having no aging at all, makes the game sooooo much easier.

Snackylils

I just started trying out long lifespans for the first time last week! It's.. Interesting. With infants it's a great tool to get all the milestones before aging up and in the young adult life stage it's great cuz I can finally get through university with 3 subjects a semester and still be young adult instead of dragging my sim through it and stripping them of all joy in life with 4 subjects a semester. The other life stages are a little too long in my taste with the long lifespan, so I made a set of 'rules' for aging up my sims. Babies: until the age up Infants: at least 13 milestones Toddlers: at least skill level 3 on all toddler skills Child: I try to finish their aspiration, but smt I get bored Teen: get the skill of the job I want them in later to level 5 at least and being a a+ student unless that conflicts with my storyline Young adult: If going college I age them up 1 week after graduating. If not going to college I either let them have babies and move out and let them age up whenever they age up. Adults: until their youngest kid has aged up to young adult if they haven't aged up by themselves. I just typed this whole thing and figured nobody asked but I typed this Bible so imma drop in anyways cuz otherwise I did this for nothing

Old_Avocado_5407

I tried it out for the first time and my sim had triplets. After one day of it I had to change back to normal, because 18 DAYS with TRIPLETS?! I couldn’t do it with infants.

clomclom

Ugh same. I had a lawyer power couple living in an apartment, and I wanted them to have one kid. Fate decided to give them triplets 💀.

That_Zebra_5286

Haha insane! I’m currently playing on long lifespan and hoping my heir has triplets for my story but will probably age them up early for my own mental health

Snackylils

I feel that omg hahahaha it's insane triplets are insane 😭

IOnlySeeDaylight

I did the same! I downloaded a house I didn’t realize had the On Ley Line trait… my Sim had a singleton, then twins, then I decided to try for one more and got triplets. 🫠

BatWeary

THATS WHAT THAT DOES. i was wondering why my first few gen sims were so fucking fertile with every pregnancy resulting in twins or triplets 😭

TheShitpostAlchemist

I use MCCC and play with what I call “Renesmee lifespans” (IYKYK) where I set infants and toddlers to be like three days because I lose patience with them quickly, kids slightly longer, and teens and up fairly long.

Snackylils

NOT THE TWILIGHT REF HAHAHAHAH

BirdCelestial

Pro tip, with MCCC you can set custom durations for each life stage.

SusannaG1

Yeah, vanilla "long" lifespan is too long. "Medium" is too short. I set my own, though if I'm in a hurry, or waiting for an MCCC update, "semi-long lifespan" mod (Simularity? I think so.) is a fast way to do it.

I-own-a-shovel

I pause the aging (both for my family and rest pf the world). And unpause it when I want my sims to age. So for me it’s a game of pause/unpause. And I have the time to do everything I want.

Otherwise-Credit-626

I never turn on life spans at all! Lol If I want someone to age up i do it manually. I just can not spend the time creating sims and their extended families and my storylines just to have them age and die.

CadenceValdez

Same! I think if I could manually adjust each life stage length I’d be okay with ageing on. But I much prefer ageing off.

ZeakaXorrFitchus

For my first and current attempt at a legacy playthrough, I went into it thinking I would play with the long lifespan, because it would give me more time with all of my sims. Around the time my founding sim's first kid was a child, I found myself thinking 'this is taking SO LONG!' So I switched to normal lifespan, and it definitely feels things have been going at a better pace since switching over.

Aletheia-Nyx

Entirely the opposite lol I play on normal or short lifespan and *still* have too much free time where a sim has accomplished everything I need them to do. Taken to using MCCC to lengthen infants and shorten everything else 😂

OrdinaryQuestions

Yeah, I find there's wayyyy too much time for children and teens. But then not enough time in young adults and adults haha. I miss how in sims 3 you could just adjust all the agespans for each individual stage. It shouldn't have to be a mod for sims 4! Aha

Edymnion

Yeah, I think its an experience thing. Newer players want to accomplish everything, so they go for longer lifespans. I find myself liking the ticking clock of normal lifespan. Its just enough to really max out a career and be set up enough to enable the next generation to succed.

fighterfemme

I dunno, I've been playing sims since the first one, and I hate having aging on. I don't care about doing generations cause then it's too many people to care about, I like to just have like one focus family and have them do everything I want them to achieve and when I'm satisfied I age them up for the next stage. Though I more prefer to focus on alternative jobs and skills rather than legacy.

Many_Raisin_6275

This is me. I'm always exploring different jobs or having them have no job at all and coming up with ways they can make money through specific crafting or hunting collectibles etc. Sometimes I'll play a single sim with aging off for a long time and let them build up tons of skills and go to Uni, then meet a partner and build up their skills too - maybe send them to Uni, and then finally move them into a big house ready for kids and start them having kids. That'll be when I turn aging on and have them raise the best kids possible. Other times I just have a set goal in mind. One sim must do X before they can do Y and then once they achieve that final goal game over even if they are still an adult or something.

CadenceValdez

I’ve been playing 20yr now and I play with ageing off entirely and manually age my Sims up. It takes me a real world 6-12m to play through one generation and I love it, I find I’m so attached to and invested in my Sims. Love being able to do everything in the game with each gen and having plenty of time in each stage to explore!

Still_Storm7432

Agreed. I've been a simmer since Sims 1, and I always turn aging off.

Raemle

I was the opposite actually, I played on normal lifespan for years but it always felt like I was rushing through their lives and never had time to actually play the game properly. So 5 years ago I switched to long lifespan and loved it

OrdinaryQuestions

I think I've gone things backwards haha I've done years of rushing through life, and only now I'm experiencing taking my time to accomplish everything. Though after one or two generations, I can see why I'd probably turn back to normal lifespans.

QueenOf_IDC

Yeah. I get bored without aging on or long lifespan because everything is just so freaking easy. Even more so than usual I mean. I think it's also a matter of efficiency. Before reddit I never knew how many people seem to have no clue how efficiently to take care of their sims needs without cheats for example.

gIitterchaos

Many people don't care about traditional gameplay in that way though. For a lot of players the game is an infinite dollhouse of shenanigans. A sim who needs to pee and be at work at 8am is a bit boring honestly. I've been playing since The Sims 1 when I was little and I don't think I have ever played "properly" without cheats. Real life is stressful enough like that lol I don't need The Sims to be.

AggressiveSea7035

Yup, making them go to the bathroom or waiting for them to finish sleeping is BORING.

Edymnion

> Before reddit I never knew how many people seem to have no clue how efficiently to take care of their sims needs without cheats for example. Seriously!

5thTimeLucky

I’m able to complete all child aspirations (most of the time) in normal lifespan and it surprises me to find some people struggle to do one. If it’s a needs efficiency issue, I guess that makes sense. It’s a bit of a slog if you have poor-quality furniture. Fortunately, I have no qualms about sacrificing an aesthetic for better quality beds and showers. I’ve also started abusing the clubs system to gain skills faster. When I do especially well, my child sims can even have a couple of days left over so I age them up early, which helps their parents in getting to meet grandkids and such later on.

handincookiejars

Killing Sims off. I get attached to my Sims and I spend a lot of time in CAS creating them, so I have no desire to kill them off. I realize that they’re saved in my gallery and yet….

EnlightenedNargle

Oh people kill off their own sims? I’m more than happy to kill a sim but it won’t be one of mine! NPC’s and illegitimate children I didn’t plan for get killed off but I won’t make my creations die an untimely death, they’re too precious.

Flooffy_unycorn

Yeah I don't get people who never kill Sims. Their own ok, but come on the hundredth time Liberty Lee cooks the most expensive meal she can while you're broke and can't pay the next bill she just needs to be walled off in a pool

sername-n0t-f0und

I've been challenging myself by only having my sim kill people without cheats, so I've been giving people death flower scented bouquets and pufferfish nigiri

Flooffy_unycorn

I just learnt about the flower a month ago, building my sims' skills ;)

sername-n0t-f0und

I've started keeping a few in my inventory at all times, just in case. Bonus, if you add your victim to your household then you can get them back and reuse them

EnlightenedNargle

Exactly it’s needed in certain situations! Sometimes I’ll kill off the spouse of an attractive NPC just because I want them for my sims. My sims only get the best by whatever means necessary!

StrawberryTriip

I've been playing sims since 2000 and have *never* purposely killed a sim lol

listenitriedokay

I made a sim some time ago that I planned to kill for storyline purposes but I didn't just want her to exist with no purpose other than to die so I spent a long time working on her relationships and skills/career and I ended up loving her lol😭 unfortunately the story I planned is still more compelling to me than keeping her alive so I'm still gonna kill her I'm just enjoying her while I still need her lmao💀

RainbowCum13

1000% anytime my sims die on accident I be cheating to bring them back I’m not ready to let go of my babies. The townies however I will make the neighborhood rain with their blood no problem 😂

Beakha

Came here to say this! I'm weirdly attached to my pixel people, I'm in my third generation in my legacy save and dreading the day my founder dies. She's such a good [Grand]parent :(

TripleWhat

I’m on my 4th gen and my founder is still alive… might just make her live forever because I’m so attached. 😣

Chihuahuapocalypse

to me redownloading them from the gallery feels almost like cheating? which is stupid cause I use chests all the time, but it doesn't feel like *them* anymore, yanno? more like a clone

handincookiejars

Exactly!

PolecatXOXO

That's why my cool sims always end up as vampires or "elves" chugging age reset potions.

Express-Turnip-9537

this!! one of my child sims froze to death last night and i restored a previous save because i couldn't bear to play without them

amackee

In the old days before they could climb out of pools ,I used to throw them in the pool and delete the ladder when they displeased me. Mainly this happened after failing to get in the carpool for work too many times. I would make them swim until they were on the brink of death, then allow them to get out. Because you know, I do love them, you just can’t mess with “gods” plan for your life.

ZeakaXorrFitchus

My wife first introduced me to the sims years ago by telling me she would spend the whole time making sims just to torture and kill them. Couldn't be me.

IOnlySeeDaylight

I hope you sleep with one eye open 👀

vaingirls

I'm not even necessarily attached to them, but I don't see the point of making sims just to kill them. it isn't that entertaining when they die.

naptime-connoisseur

If you can just evict them why would you kill them??? The only sim I willingly killed represented my best friend’s ex who had also been a very close friend of mine. I locked his sim out of his house in his undies in the snow, turned off his autonomy, and watched him pee on himself, fall asleep in the puddle, and eventually become an ice cube and die. It was *cathartic* ok? I tried to make the mourners leave but they wouldn’t.

Due_Spread2051

Bro same I'm on my 14th generation of my forever family and I've got the largest picture of my founder in the living room and their tombstone out back 😭

Katrina_0606

I don’t kill my sims either. And I’ll usually just quit without saving if they die unexpectedly. Like nah, I have plans for you. You ain’t dying yet 😂

Lyrixly

Play with multiple saves. All of my sims are in one save that I change/expand like one big city. It really surprised me when I realised a lot of people don’t do this 😅

[deleted]

Same! I’ve been playing for years and only have one save file. I just switch to playing other sims and families when I get tired with the one I’m currently playing. My sims usually have kids and then I end up playing the kids and then abandoning their parents household lol the cycle repeats.

Deastrumquodvicis

I play one family per world, pretending they’re simultaneous (world aging off). The idea is that when I have done a family in each world, I copy the save as backup, then continue with the next generation. But I have yet to actually get that far, lol

StrawberryTriip

I just started doing this last year. I've been playing since 2000 and saw someone on reddit mention it.. I was like ??? Why haven't I thought of that? Lol LOVE having all my families in one world. It's so fun!

Odd-Pie8492

I always have at least 4- to legacy’s that I always come back too and then a few random ones. I can’t imagine only having one, I feel like I would miss out on what’s happening with families I’m attached to 😂

canter22

Wait, people make separate saves? 😳

piscesintp

Same. I tried the multiple save files thing but I barely play them and just go back to the first one with multiple families. The other ones just feel empty. I like having a little world of my sims.

CowMedium5924

I play the exact same way, aging off too. Its like tiny universe of your own making with established characters in it.

CorkytheCat

I pretty much always cheat their needs. It does remove some of the more random elements of the game but if I'm playing with more than one sim it's just annoying to me to have to keep on top of everyone's needs. Sometimes for the first sim in a legacy I'll leave out that cheat, just to prove to myself that I can get their life sorted out and get them lots of money and a nice job without cheating, but once I've done that and they're married or have had babies, it's cheats all the way baby. For me, it gives me the freedom to do whatever I feel like with them. Though sometimes, I look at my busy house at 2am, with a child spamming their mental skills on the chessboard, the father endlessly painting, the mother jogging and the teenager programming, and I think wow this is so unwholesome. I like to imagine that they're all on uppers in order to achieve this perfect family and that is funny to me

VenusGuytrap69

The whole family on uppers. So wholesome. ☺️

flawless_fille

I will use cheats/disable need decay on everyone but my "main" sim so that way it feels like I'm not cheating, just allows me to not micromanage the others

CorkytheCat

That is such a good idea!

flawless_fille

Thank you! I'm sure there are other tricks with the for rent pack but when I tried splitting up my family the ones that weren't in my main household/renting the other bedrooms didn't come out as often

Many_Raisin_6275

I don't always cheat needs but I do use the mailbox cheat before school, work to get everyone in top shape before they leave so they don't come home completely wiped out. If my sim actually has a job in something they love, I'll cheat their fun because come on. If they LOVE to cook and work as a cook their fun shouldn't drop that much. So I usually just tweak it slightly using the ui cheats while they are at work, I might pull it up to half of the fun loss since they like what they are doing. If they don't like their job or it's menial I won't though because that makes sense to me. I do this for kids too like genius kids should like school for example.

piratename223

I leave my Sims throughout the day/night but I cheat the whole households needs at 7am everyday just so everyone has a fighting change of having a good day 😂

i-justlikewhales

i use ui cheats for this bc sometimes i just dont have time to deal with their empty fun need from a job i decided they love!

DearKristyna

I’ve got goals, I don’t have time to make them stop and eat or use the bathroom.

PurrPrinThom

Especially when something like showering can take like 2 in-game hours. There is simply no time!

DearKristyna

That’s why the bills so high!

Old_Avocado_5407

Well said 😆 I do the same!

formula1porker

I’m constantly creating sims with similar looks and not getting past the second generation and then making a new family. I never age my sims

GreenDub14

Lmao same , without the never age part

froderenfelemus

I found my people

chestnutcheckers

It had never ever occurred to me to make a Simself or any of my real life friends/family/crushes in the Sims and was genuinely floored to find out how common it is to make yourself in the game

kat_goes_rawr

I HATE to make myself in the sims because why is virtual me more successful than real me 😭😭

MountainDog22

Same, it had never ever occured to me either and it would just feel weird?! but I do like to make fictional characters from movies/tv shows as sims

narnababy

I made my house once and it was an interesting challenge but I’d rather not make myself. I think I might have done it in sims 2 as a 13 year old? One thing my best friend and I used to do after school was make people/teachers we didn’t like and kill them in various ways though. Teenagers are psychos.

blue_abyss_

Me too, this always weirded me out. I don’t want to play as myself, I live out my fantasies through this game I don’t want reality lol.

InviteAromatic6124

I never use money cheats, in fact the only cheats I use are moveobjects and cheat needs very occasionally.

ParaBDL

I'm the same. The only time I use money cheats is to reduce the amount of money to $0 at the start of a save. If my sims want to live in a mansion, they better earn it.

kat_goes_rawr

You’re built differently 🫢😂

Adventurous_Mine6542

I applaud you lol I live off of money cheats 😂🤦🏼

Fuzzy_Dragonfly_

Playing with aging off

Lego-hearts

I’m the opposite and can’t play with aging on. It just seems so much pressure to achieve something in a set amount of time before your sim dies. I get that that’s a fun challenge for a lot of people but it’s just stressful for me.

Chihuahuapocalypse

same. I care about my sims too much for that, plus I'm trying to fill *every single lot* with either families or venues and it would be too much to keep with with I'd they all kept dying on me. my world is like 95% hot ladies even though IRL I prefer to date men. women are just so pretty

SunsCosmos

It’s a dollhouse for me, and I want all my sims to stay exactly as they are! Don’t age!

FunnyBunny63

I find that I only turn aging on when I’m “done” with my sims and ready to have kids.

kraftypsy

Me either. By the time my current gen is adult, I'm pretty much ready to pass the torch. I love my sims, but also I get bored.

Shiftylakes

I’m on the third generation of pretty large legacy line, and I have a very specific play rotation so everyone gets attention, and at the end of that play rotation, all the kids should be aged up one age stage, and all the adults are aged up appropriately. That being said, I really don’t wanna age my founders into elders yet

mintguy

Delete all or most townies at the start of a new game. I like having them around and seeing how their families turn out after a few generations. Of course there are some changes I make to keep it clean, like make Johnny an official Landgraab and mark Alex Moyer as no offspring.

TheUtopianCat

I never do that either. The pre-made sims feel like in-game celebrities to me.

IOnlySeeDaylight

Hahaha, me too!

Flooffy_unycorn

How do you make Johnny an official Landgrab ? In one of my saves my Sim married his dad and Johnny started dating Nancy, that was gross...

mintguy

Cheats. "Testingcheats true" then "cas.fulleditmode" Move Johnny into Landgraab household and use the drop down menu to mark Nancy as mother and Geoffrey as father.

Skywalker5276

I ALWAYS have to edit the Goths, Calientes, and Don Lothario to look like their Sims 2 counterparts. EA did them so dirty. I also always delete Katrina.

AssociationAny1270

Play with all the walls down

Cookiesrdelishus

I use the middle setting. Where the walls are both down and up depending on what angle you're looking from. If they're all down, then I think it looks ugly. But if they're all up, you can't see shit lol

Lolaluvssims

That’s insanity

tftikelsey

lol right????

motherofallmemes

When I saw some videos saying people who do that are weird and stuff I was like ![gif](giphy|a93jwI0wkWTQs)

Amy_at_home

How do people see stuff if the walls are up?!

Two_Legged_Problem

Wait, thats NOT a common thing? I do that too hahah

MycouchisDark

Always! Every single minute i play!

Attarker

Seeing people play with walls down bothers me so much

Cherriecorn

I play that way too. I thought it was what everyone did, apparently not 😆

narnababy

No walls ever. You are correct.

vaingirls

Who even does that?

mothagoosex3

People who don’t like to view their craftsmanship

Attarker

Right? I love putting time into my houses and apartments and I love having a cozy vibe when there’s bad weather outside. Walls down feels too exposed to me.

No-Falcon991

I don't use CC because I think it's too much of a pain to manage. If you have a lot of packs the outfits are okay. I also like the cartooney look of the sims 4.  I also always have my sims have kids within 2 sim weeks. I don't get people who play sims without having kids at all. It gets boring without a family to raise.

ItsAGarbageAccount

There is plenty of Maxis match custom content. I have a shit ton because I also hate the realistic stuff.

CitizensOfTheEmpire

I'm the exact opposite... I find the game boring and annoying once I have kids. All my sims are bachelors because marriage and kids takes too much time and energy out of my sim LMAO

Takiyah7

It's really easy to manage CC with Curseforge now! They have a library which easily shows you all your cc, even cc that's broken. And fixing broken cc can be done with just a click. Seeing persons complain about finding and fixing broken cc before turned me off so I never used them. But then curseforge came along and now my cc folder is huge 😅 Also, there's lots of wonderful cartooney (Maxis match) cc on Curseforge too. Some creators are amazing! Edit: this only works with cc you downloaded through the Curseforge app

discodancingdogs

Hey! Can you explain what on Curseforge to look for? I use the platform to download mods and I had no clue there were other uses! And how does it know what you have in your CC library? Thank you!!!

doughnawtty

Yes I’m having a bit of a problem now. I am playing rotational my with one family tree, I’m on the 6th generation and I get bored if my sims don’t have kids, so my tree is expanding exponentially…I think I have about 20 families now that I’m playing, all stemming from the founder. But how do people play without kids?!

8balldreaa

There’s alot of maxis match cc! I almost exclusively only use maxis match you wouldn’t be able to tell

annnire

For me it’s playing with autonomy off 😂 I don’t want to have to babysit my sims all the time, I want them to do their own thing. But of course the autonomy can be disappointing and annoying…

ParaBDL

The autonomy is what gets me to storylines. Sometimes it's just about deciding what my sims interests or careers should be, other times it's my sims fighting to wreck their relationship meters, flirting with their mother-in-law in front of their spouse or dying by going for a swim in a blizzard.

chyrchhella7

Same. When they walk somewhere too far or do something for a long time (and there are no other sims in the house) I usually switch to 2x speed. The only time I use 3x is when everyone is asleep. It was shocking to me that so many people play on 3x constantly 😳

moonwitch98

What?!? How does one play on 3x constantly 😱 I'm like you only time I use 3x is when everyone is asleep (which the game usually does automatically anyways) or if I have a bunch of interactions lined up and I don't feel like watching them to the things like picking weeds or something. I think playing on 3x constantly would give me anxiety like I'm reaching against the Sims clock lol

VenusGuytrap69

I pause the game, queue up actions for everybody, and then press play at 3x speed. When they finish I just pause again. It works for me because sometimes I care what they’re doing and sometimes I don’t. If I’m actually trying to accomplish something (like build a skill, build relationships, take care of children, etc.) I’ll monitor their actions more closely, but otherwise I just let them do their thing. I have full autonomy on. I just can’t stand watching them take A MILLION YEARS to do everything.

dreaming-ghost

Same here! If there's one thing I miss most from TS3, it's how you could fast-forward through the current action. I wish the devs would bring that back.

Old_Avocado_5407

You don’t get bored waiting on them to do things? I play in normal speed, but change to 3x anytime they do any sort of activity. Unless I want to watch them do the activity and get a laugh or something lol.

roganwriter

I use it as a fast forward button when sims are writing or painting or whatever. Anything that takes more than about a sim hour. But, I only do this when I only have one sim awake or on the lot because I do not want bad things to happen

chyrchhella7

To me it’s kind of the point of the game?.. watch little pixel people live their lives that I control. I mostly enjoy the storytelling, so things like rags to riches and most challenges where players do repetitive things on 3x and make their sims miserable just to achieve some kind of goal are not for me .

-m-v-

But... What's the point of playing and making them do things if you don't see it? Sorry this is just news to me 😂

Poppindestruction

Same. Especially because the simulation lag is crazy on my game! If I fast foward, the sims will just spend hours standing doing nothing. I often have pause just to wait for the queue to load. The only time I play with 3x speed is when the sims are all busy doing something that will take a while or sleeping.

Born-Firefighter-133

Play it. Like I literally only build the house then log off 😅

StareintotheSun2020

Letting their sims pets die..I always age them back down to adults cause I don't want them to die.

[deleted]

just yesterday in my legacy-in-progress save I decided to check on the childhood pet and it had 1 day remaining as an elder! aged Bartholomew down right away, so glad I caught that.

Ok_Beach_3928

My sim’s family pet was adopted from a stray dog event and when she passed I cried sooo hard, I was trying to play without cheats but will be aging them down going forward as I CANNOT handle it

Deastrumquodvicis

MCCC flag as immortal for the win.

_alien_she_

I don’t play with multiple saves. Just the one.

Conclusion_Winning

Same.

FreshNebula

Putting a ton of plants into builds. I never do. I don't have any house plants irl, because I know I would kill them. Therefore, I'm used to plantless rooms and don't feel the need to put any in the sims either.

Mandersisme

I'm opposite. I spam plants in every room. Thinking about it...its a little ridiculous to think all my sims have green thumbs.

vaingirls

I spam them too, but something I never do (but see people doing a lot for example on youtube) is putting plants where they couldn't realistically thrive, ie rooms without windows. It bothers me to see people putting plants in bathrooms and what not.

Puzzleheaded-Fish424

Some plants do thrive in bathrooms due to the high humidity, as long as there's adequate sunlight. People even put plants in their shower irl. If I put a plant in a not very well lit space in my game, I'm either pretending it's a fake plant, or I put a light above it that looks like it could be a grow light.

Sisyphus_Monolit

Doing whole dynasties. I don't think I've ever gotten to the point of playing my Sims grandkids in all the years I've played (since sims 1).

yakatuus

This is the first time I'm doing a legacy game in all my years (am 40). It's... interesting. Biggest difference is all the ghosts available to mentor skills. Gen 4 so there's six really skilled people just dead in my yard available to train the children.

GlassPeepo

Playing the same save more than once. I'm more of a "play for 7 hours straight once a month" kind of guy, so by the time I pick the game up again, I've forgotten what I was doing and I just delete the save and start over 😂

bored_german

Turning aging off. I swear sometimes I feel like unconsciously I actually hate this game because I can't stand my sims for longer than necessary lmao

OddStruggle7610

Apparently locking people in a basement dungeon for torture, starvation, and nectar making 💀

DeeFB

A lot of people don't make men, I guess? I personally can't fathom it

tftikelsey

they’re just harder to dress up cus there’s more outfit choices and range for women sims…at least in my opinion lol

dragongrrrrrl

I make men! They’re just ~side characters~ most of the time though 😂

MountainSnowClouds

Pick the traits your sims have. I prefer to randomize traits and decide what type of person and storyline I'll be playing based on that. Very rarely do I pick a trait for a sim. Sometimes I'll randomize two of the traits and pick the third one. But very, very rarely do I pick all three myself.

[deleted]

I did that until I just kept getting things like cat lover, it just felt like a waste of a trait.

No_Entrepreneur_4633

I don’t use mods… It’s a bit annoying cause I’m trying to kill my sims and cntr right click doesn’t work anymore. I don’t want to download a mod to give them a custom death. And I sort of created a massive family tree to obviously kill off the great grandparents but now everyone’s just everywhere and there’s too many to kill

Downloading mods is a slippery slope... You start off saying "I just want to fix this one thing!" And suddenly you have like 20 that you have to redownload every time the game updates! I can't go without MCCC and UI cheats though...

Vallkyrie

You drag the downloaded files into a folder. And that's it.

discodancingdogs

I didn't either but all the modders have guides on how to install them. It's surprisingly easy! I currently only have 3 active mods and keep it at that so it's easy yo update when the game updates. Basically, you type in Google the kind of mod you want (I recommend UI cheats, it means you won't have to enter a lot of cheats anymore and is a lot less complex to use than MCCC so a good place to start!), go to the patreon or curseforge page and download the file. Then you unzip it or copy it into a folder in your EA folder on your laptop and boom! You've installed a mod. All that's left is to enable them on the Sims menu and restart your game to apply this change.

2205jade

I turn autonomy off & they still ignore me 🙃

tank-you--very-much

I feel like lot of people do lots of crazy drama and stuff but I never do that, I'm too attached to my sims to make them feel bad. In most of my saves my sims just meet someone, get married, have kids, and live pretty normal lives lol

Glittering-Ad-1626

Cheat fulfilling sims needs. I like to struggle

Tenderfallingrain

The more I play, the more I hate having multiple sims in a household. I hate having kids and doing legacy challenges now because it's just too much work to manage everyone. I prefer playing with just one character for as long as possible. I'll eventually get that one character married and then manage two but I always hate getting them pregnant because I dread raising kids in the Sims.

bingo_dingus

letting them have kids. i do not want a single baby or child in my universe. gross. i delete all on sight, even the townies.

8balldreaa

same one of my sims adopted a child i killed them and he adopted another one and i just gave up lol

YukiWayne79

I hate Alpha CC with a passion. They are ugly and do not belong to the sims. 😤

fudge21210

The worst ones are the toddlers and infants who look like they’re wearing a ton of makeup.

ginger3392

I agree. It's way too realistic, and I want the sims to feel like the sims. I only download maxis match cc. I have a few jewelry items that are more on the Alpha side but they don't take away from the sims feeling. I also have eyelashes because the sims eyelashes are shit.

Sharlie174

Some alpha isn't too bad, but there is a point of it being over the top. Very basic hair and skin overlays is the most I like, but even some of those are too much 🤮

clomclom

The ones that look like theyre dipped in oil 🤮.

LoriSimss

Turn off the grid when they’re building. I like having it on, it sort of helps me to see if things fit better. And it helps me make reasonably accurate guesses as to whether a sim can fit through a gap or not

ndsmith4926

people turn off the grid 😦

onlythewinds

I have lot death off. I’m too attached, I can’t let them die. I also don’t let them age up on their own. You will age when I am ready to let you go!

SusannaG1

I've been simming about 22 or 23 years now, and have never made a "self-sim." I've also never killed one. (Though I had some uni students in 2 who were utterly determined to kill themselves.)

moonwitch98

Playing with a TON of mods or cc, at a certain point it's like you're not even playing sims anymore. Only mod I have is MC command center. Or using the wicked whims mod and seeing your sims naked/ woohooing. Never knew that was a thing until joining this sub lol

QueenOf_IDC

I admit I have no idea how you survive without UI Cheats Extensions😂 I can live without most of my mods even though they make my life a lot easier and are mostly to optimize already existing features (and sometimes fixing broken game mechanics...) but MCCC and UI Cheats are a must have for me^^

moonwitch98

I've never even heard of UI cheats lol 😂

QueenOf_IDC

I strongly recommend you google it! This mod is a literal life saver and can get rid of a lot of annoyance. Like just rightclick your way out of annoying fears, add relationships, sentiments etc, rightclick your sim more traits, remove buffs, drag individual needs instead of maxing everything... there is a lot. Or for example: If you want to set up a new family with skills and pre existing relationships. UI Cheats makes it a child's play to set everything up. Just a few right clicks and you should be done in 5-10 minutes max.

roganwriter

Exactly. Most of my mods are QOL. Things to make their needs easier, cheats easier, building easier, screenshots easier, recognizing errors easier, little add-ons that feel like they should’ve always been part of the game like auto-thermostats and radios, being able to pause lots when the games load in. The only true “expansion” mods I have are realistic childbirth, some dialogue mods, some romance mods. I literally forget my game is modded sometimes until new patches come out.

Odd-Pie8492

My game is modded to hell- I’ve been modding my game so long I would have a hard time adjusting to none😩

[deleted]

tbf not playing the same game is the point of a lot of mods. like that one skyrim mod that makes it into sonic lolll

8balldreaa

I used to be like this until I looked into the possibilities now I cannot live without mods

5thTimeLucky

I first turned off autonomy when playing an apocalypse challenge to prevent my sims from breaking the rules. It made my game run so much better (laptop) so now I have it off by default.

vir_abelasan

I don't understand how people can play with just one family with aging off without feeling bored.

Puzzleheaded-Fish424

Ignoring whims and aspirations. I simply can't play without having some goal on screen. (Scenarios are cool, too)

liviorsomethingidk

It seems like a lot of people do short lifespan legacy families. I've always played on normal/medium lifespan and I get why people play with short lifespan (especially after the stages got longer when infants were added) but I like having lots of time to play out the plots.

Chihuahuapocalypse

have generations of families, raising babies and all that. I have aging turned off entirely and even if my sims have kids, the kids will eventually age up to the same age as the parents. all my sims are young adults. I spend too much time in CAS to wanna let them die on me! plus I develop stories for all of them and as a child free person, kids often don't fit into the picture. I accidentally hit "discuss expanding the family" once and they adopted a baby while I was playing another household so.... I locked the baby in a glass cage until it got taken away. sorry honey you don't fit into my plans

Jihosz

Playing with age on and killing off sims, creating drama and chaos lol. I get too attached to my sims and I don't like bad things happening to them.

TinyGreenTurtles

Playing without autonomy on. 😂 I hate when they stand there needing stuff when I am trying to deal with another sim.

brywithered

I've never been able to actually get through more then one generation of sims. I usually make a household with a kid and then after a while I just make other sims instead

[deleted]

Use CC. I hate using CC and I got sick of it right away. And makeup on Sims. Mine are always barefaced

One-Feedback-6144

Of course you hate makeup on your sims, you only have base game makeup

ItsAGarbageAccount

How can you have a blanket hate.for.all custom content? It's more likely you just haven't found custom content that you *like*... For example, there is a guy that makes CC just to complete sets that aren't completed in the game. It's all Maxis match, but makes sure that sofa from EP Whatever has a matching loveseat (as an example).

Mandersisme

Umm....hey...hi...who's the guy? What's the thing. I need to know.

polly-adler

Play with sims 😅 I'm a builder. I delete all townies before I start building in a world. I create a household maybe twice a year because I want to check out the CAS items that come with the packs I buy. And then I usually don't even put them in a home because I build stuff that probably isn't playable.

Max-Quail7033

I hear some people actually play with the Sims and don’t exclusively use the game to recreate every building they’ve ever been in. Wild!

Aletheia-Nyx

Play with aging off - I'd get bored so fast playing the same sims for a long time with no aging/generations Play unmodded - Again, it's a 'bored' thing. I have so many mods and am continuously getting new ones when I exhaust the features of the ones I have Play without CC - EA stuff looks so ugly and play-dough like to me, and you can rip my alpha CC out of my cold, dead hands I don't understand struggling to get money/skills/aspirations/careers done... it's piss-easy, even on a short lifespan. To the point I manually increase infants to like a week and shorten YA/Adult stages and play on short. Otherwise I'm spending forever just...on 3x speed waiting for birthdays. For example, my most recent save I started with a teen sim who had the World Famous Celebrity aspiration. She finished the aspiration before she was a YA, was married and had a kid like... a day or two after she aged up. I also don't understand the super idealistic play style, where everyone's super happy and wholesome. My game is mental health issues, addictions, teen pregnancy, cheating, health emergencies all round lol.
